I didn’t see there were storm crystal locations pinned. I did find it, eventually. When stuff is pinned, ideally it’s best not to embed info (like for the storm crystal info, having those planet pics, y’all could’ve downloaded those images and placed them straight into the pin info, I know you might think…well we don’t want to bloat the pin info, but for people like me who will overlook embed links easily, that saves asking where there’s storm crystals and other data that myself and others flat out miss in pins because it’s a link, whereas vital info like that I guess I’m not expecting a link, I’m expecting it to be written out or depicted there). We use pins in the Subnautica server, and we generally avoid putting embedded links there I think, I know I don’t use links that I recall Just offering some suggestions, for where I’ve missed info because it wasn’t obvious in pins (to me, lol)

High, just really getting started on this expedition. I have read (OK, scanned) the pins. I think I saw somewhere to hoard the memory fragments, and that you get memory fragments from animals. Two questions:

1. I have Memory Fragments with a type (Exosuit, Weapon, Invneotry) and some that don't show a type. Which one do I hoard?

2. What kind of animals do give you memory fragments?

so you get memory fragments by giving stuff to polo, one of the things yo u can give is the memories from harvesting animals

What you get from animals is different from the memory fragments. You turn in the thing you collect from feeding animals (ancestral memories) to Polo, and Polo in return gives you memory fragments

In this expedition, when you feed animals, instead of getting milk or eggs you choose to harvest the first item that pops up, which is ancestral memories you don’t need to kill them. This works well on the first planet where there’s no animals that want to kill you and there’s plenty of herds

I know from my experience as an Apple device and mobile discord user, when we’d have group google sheet documents in Subnautica playtesting on the discord they never would work for me, they wouldn’t register me as a shared user even though I have google sheets installed on my iPad and a registered account. Never could get it to work. Apple mobile devices and discord sometimes just don’t play nice with each other

You need an emeril drive for your ship, I wouldn’t try to jump with the freighter

The freighter is handy to store things in, just know that if you die, you’ll lose all that stuff anyway. But you won’t be able to build a base much more than a BC and a hut. Because unlocking everything for base construction costs 10X more buried salvaged data than normal

Whereas, on a freighter, you already have some basebuilding tech unlocked, including cargo boxes (you have to build them but you’ve got them unlocked)

if you have the map you activate it in your inventory and it will locate a Sentinel nest for you in the system, fly to it and when you land you can go to the terminal and interact with it and chose the 'shutdown sentinel forces' option
you do not need to shoot anything and can safely ignore the sentinels wandering about the pillar

From the pins, do the 1st phase, then all the anchors and memories, then phase 5. Then you stop permadeathing. You can knock off everything else.

When you told me that I can find these guys in the first system I immediately got in my ship and flew to the station, then warped here. (It takes some time on that warp screen some times)
I am pulsing to the planet rn, I have not been having trouble figuring out anything except for what planet even has any predators.
I don't try to use the scanner to figure out if they are or aren't, instead I just walk to to each animal that doesn't say they eat leaves.

I am not having any trouble locating the creatures on planets or taming them, i realize the scanner may not always be 100% accurate, I was just trying to locate any planet that had any hostile tameable animals. Thank you for the help with telling me the system and planet. I got it from here.

All phase rewards can be carried over. On your main save, go to the quicksilver merchant at the anomaly and claim them there.

Far as I know, that's a community progress thing.
It updates on its own after a certain amount of time & unless you're delivering insane amounts of mats, you can't move the bar on your own.
You can only contribute to the overall amount alongside everyone else.

That last freighter mission had me sweating; I had tried a freighter mission earlier through the free call device you get, & the horrors inside it were the cause of my first and only none-essential death of the expedition.
Well, technically, they lowered my health just enough for the sub-zero temps to kill me in one shot when I dropped my guard, but still...
I saved up nanites for a supreme cold mod & didn't awaken any nests the second time around.
Too scared of a repeat of the first time.😅

If I had gotten a pulse spitter, I might have been braver, but with the blaze jav instead?

I'm not in the expedition but I would recommend reading all the pins for this expedition in this channel, and strategizing from that, it should help

putting off everything but the required tasks until later (like, don't kill sentinels or gather whispering eggs until after you've completed phase 5)

making sure you put a base on each anchor world as you get to it, so if you do die, you can get back there from the very first space station teleporter, and save warp fuel and time

use the derelict pinned in the "locations" pin which has only jellyfish hostiles, killable at a distance with the mining beam

stuff like that

I think you only "have" to die once, for the Phase 1 completion.

if it's an "infected" one with nests, don't shoot the nests at all. don't move near them when they are lit, have a lot of sodium/batteries, you'll be ok

(having some cold prot is a good idea too)

another option is to go to a known derelict that has only easy hostiles (there's one in the pins for example)

This is the expedition where you die repeatedly..right? I hated this last time and it's the only one I didn't do first time round, is there a...simple guide anywhere for just blitzing through this I could use?

I've been doing it and find I don't need a guide it pretty much points you where you need to go, and the pins have some specific locations for some things. If you want to blitz through, get to your ship, get it in the air and go to the space station and look through the other player bases. There will be many that will be set up next to abandoned buildings for larval cores, or near crashed freighters, set up with nipnip and gravitino farms, minor settlements selling an A class weapon, harvesters mining oxygen, uranium, copper, sodium, whatever, or ones based around a corrale of runaway mould balls.

And all memory fragments you open now are A class so clear a few milestones doing those things and you'll be rolling in money and nanites and gear

Some people like hardcore survival. Some don’t.
And that’s fine, that different people enjoy different levels of difficulty, that’s why all the new settings are really nice. I think in the context of all the new settings that waypoint added, this sort of expedition, doesn’t quite fit so well anymore. I find it extremely stressful. But I’m not sure how they reconcile redoing the settings for it, when people have done it before. That’s hard to do without some people complaining “but that’s not how it was set up before” you know, I get it. But moving forward, I hope they won’t make expeditions in survival/semi-permadeath. That would be my preference anyway.

Idk what pioneers expedition is, but there’s no reason why the expeditions can’t be open to everyone. They don’t have to be a gauntlet imo. They should be open to all, including the new player. instead of super hard quests and flexible settings the leviathan is super hard settings with flexible tasks

I thought Exobiology was a pretty good expedition, a bit long maybe, but all around good. Covered a lot of different things

so the final iteration of the pioneers was, collect 50 storm crystals, chart 60 waypoints, earn 1mil units in a single sale, find an abandoned system, kill 50 sentinels, get an abyssal treasure, and walk 10k units on an extreme planet

we got about 5% of that as the leviathan but with hard settings

First you begin the repair process as normal, bringing up the screen where it shows the three things to fix. Then you mouse over it (or select it with the stick), and it'll tell you which button to hit to apply a repair kit.

I started the current expedition on day 2. Already were several "Free Stuff" bases that astonished me in how much they had built and made available. How do these players afford all those blueprints so fast on a survival economy?! Are they privvy to some magic or am I just really pathetic?

some players might save edit items in so that they can build helpful bases for others. other players might concentrate solely on getting savlaged data to unlock base parts for this purpose... hard to know, and it certainly does not reflect on your playing at all. hope you are finding them useful!

probably not, because you would have to find them by planetary coordinates, and it's quicker to just see if there are player bases at the space station teleporter or buy 5 distress signal/emergency charts from the cartographer, open them all without going to any locations until you get the crashed freigher, and then just head there
