These are not tameable by normal means.
They can fly pretty high, like the eagles, harpies etc.

You don't need to have mods installed or anything.
I was using mine to scout locations on the main hub planet.
You can use your visor to look for hotspots while flying

There is a limit to the size. Eventually the sequencer will say ‘inherited’ for size even when you put in platinum or whatever you use to increase size. I think the limit is based on the original creatures size.
