To test gene splitting make a quick save by entering your ship and exiting in the anomaly and then reloading that save after you get your egg results. It will reload the eggs in your inventory before they were altered.

I have one animal left to scan, an underground on a moon that has no real caves.. any advice on the best method to find it? I have seen ideas like digging for caves, reloading saves where underground animals spawn, and just traveling a lot on the moon.

nope, 100% on the height weight increase/decrease means its going to add or subtract 0.5M from the creature size
and it's inaccurate to call to it M and kg there tho, its actually the scale compared to other creature of the same species
for example a 5.0M trex will be smaller than a 5.0M diplo
back to your question tho, it doesn't matter what you use, what matters is the % it shows on the egg sequencer

Have you been scanning and picking things up in front of your companion? One of mine started digging up Salvaged Data after watching me do it for half an hour, and another one's getting good with her laser beams having seen me dispatch a few dozen biological horrors.
But it did take a while for both of them (lower stats than yours.)

Note, my companion Lummox does dig up data, but only one at a time, and I do need to keep an eye on him to notice that he's done it. It's more of a party trick than a really useful extra.

I did some testing and noticed dosage in the dye color doesn't matter too much above 50%. Basically as long as you're at least 50% in the dye dosage, it will apply the new color. If it's under 50% the offspring will continue with it's inherited colors.

Wow pet with square laser is quite nice, I fought sentinels and it one shot knocked out each Quad sentinels (2/2). it is still alive but disabled lying on the floor. after i killed all sentinel drones, no more sentinel came because game thinks i still have enemies alive, which were the 2 unconscious Quads.

2 hours of companion training ... and all I got was this lousy pile of corpses from one of my creatures who only wanted to laser-beam small, innocent animals.
Square/round appears to be aesthetics only, my critter hunted with both, and refused to mine with both.
The first one also started to laser the local wildlife the moment I fitted it, so ... no training needed there, but persuading it to attack sentinels didn't go so well.
Another scanned the environment completely unprompted.
So currently, I think that perhaps digging might be a learned activity, but everything else either isn't learned, or takes longer than the 10-20mins I gave it.
All companions can follow basic instructions like going where you Point, and Come Here, although a bit hit and miss with where they end up.

- If you can interact to feed an animal a creature pellet, you can also interact again to adopt it. (That is, not all animals can be adopted.)
- Adult Companions make eggs every 24 hours if you aren't horrid to them.
- To get the egg, you need to be on the same type of planet as the one they were adopted from and then interact. You also need to have fewer than 6 eggs in your inventory.
- Mutate the egg at the Anomaly with stuff. Check the other pins here, or Google for ideas.
- Fit your companion with accessories from the interact menu. Not much point, but I guess the lasers can help in a fight. If your companion deigns to join in. Others SEEM to be decorative but who knows with this game.
- Max 6 pets.
- Pets can be very cute, annoying, funny, menacing, murderous and all in all I find them good company.

@fast atlas dont need to buy special laser for the companion to mine for you. my pet mined once in 30 hours game play with default given square laser and 100 helpfulness. didnt give me anything it mined thou. quicksilver brought mining laser is just cosmetic, dont need to buy it to mine.

In my experience, fit it with lasers, and it'll head off and slaughter the local wildlife without any further direction from you. 😐 If you want it to more usefully attack sentinels, bio horrors or predators, you may need to shoot them yourself in front of it.
I'm also not sure if companions will initiate the fight with something non-harmless ... I think they wait for you to get shot/bitten before they join in.

Uhh no actually, no matter how hard you modify the egg it won't leave his body category (t-rex, diplo, bipede, quad, blob, synthetic, etc...)
It would be messy asf to properly modify an egg

With any luck, it will take the hint and shoot too. It won't start the fight with anything serious*, it waits for you to attack / be attacked first.
- it will hunt down the innocent local wildlife, which is very murder bungery, but yeah, I've not seen them kick off a fight with a biological horror or sentinel without being provoked.
If your pet isn't murdery enough, get an egg from them, and use pugneum or other things to increase its aggression levels at the Anomaly.
(Application of 'aggression factor' can be done multiple times to a single egg, or if you have more patience, you can hatch each one and test it out, then get another egg if needed.)

No, just that if you want a full on murder maker then that's perhaps the quickest way to get there 😄
I think as long as companions aren't super-chill, they can be persuaded into protecting you with lasers, but they do need higher aggression to be more fighty.
ALSO anything cat-like seems to be a fairly good bet to start off with.
