you cant really get one as a "pet" - there's one you get as an ally, by doing a bunch of settlement questline, but the only one that is classed as a "pet" is the sentinel dog, which is a expedition past reward.

Nearly all non-NPC living things are, in some way or another

Even sentinel quads, mechs and walkers can technically be inserted as a creature ID and will successfully work

They can be tamed, but only on PC with mods. Otherwise they require 3rd party tools to generate custom seeds to use via the delivery bot. Additionally, worms eagles and flying lizards need to be save edited to the user liking afterwards for size and flight behavior, but colors and traits can still be sequenced. You can acquire eggs for pretty much anything from other players, provided they're willing to give them.

These ones were created lol not natural tames. Most of my others I have were found through the coordinate exchange or Google images prior to the arena update and were assigned stats arbitrarily. 🪦

I agree with you. While I understand not everything in the game should be upgradable, this particular thing should be because it involves player vs player content; this leads to people just save editing their pets which shouldn't be encouraged

whereas freighters, for example, have no use in player vs player (you can't even see another player's freighter unless you're on the same team)

so having them not be upgradable isn't as big of a deal

You can't breed creatures together. You just get one, it'll lay an egg if you take it to its home biome 24hrs after you companion in. And i think you should be able to do what you're after. Possibly.

hey guys quick question, i keep getting inconsistent answers but are the benefits to sizing up a pet a boost in health and the benefit for decreasing its size an increase in agility? how significant are these boosts?

I think it depends on where its natural size was before you decide to boost or shrink it. Usually when I shrink creaturws, I seen to be able to squeeze out around 10-25 extra agility points, which I find a lot more significant than boosting health which is usually an extra 200-300hp (more agility can mean more damage on that one agility based attack, and increase your chance of your attacks landing, and your opponents attack missing if your agility difference is big enough)

Until creatures can get about 4500hp through a high grade S HP + boosting to max size, only then would I consider maybe having a big creature for battles

But so far I think the highest I've seen is somewhere around 4200ish, yet you can have a tiny high agility creature reach about 3950

So I find it not worth it currently going for max size

What you can sometimes do if you like to be a little sly, is if your creature has a low agility stat (I'd say low 300s or less) is to use the agility move where if uses your opponents agility stat to make your attack strong, instead of your own agility stat (this move has 2 versions of itself).if your opponent has about 50+ agility more than you and you use your opponents agility for your attack, it does quite high damage!

Only issue is if the opponent has the same move but for their own agility, they'll pretty much do the same damage as you, but also attack first due to higher agility, and less chance of missing compared to you

So I feel like the whole using your opponents agility for your attack should get a slight buff to make it more fair to make this route more equally viable

It's in move slot 2. Main issue is move slot 2 has a ton of bad moves, most players only really use the agility based attack which makes it strong based on your own agility, or your opponents agility if your own is low

Hoping some of the moves get rebalanced, and before anyone says again "it's not going to happen as this content has poor reception", they did just patch the cooldown ability a couple days ago cooling down itself so you could keep spamming it to make all your abilities accessed at any time

Its one of the rewards for maxing out the pet tasks (get 20 to max level, hatch 30 etc). I just saw other people's that were large. Mine ended up a tiny Lil guy. I messed with its traits but didn't put anything in the sequencer that should have effected size

I have 4/5 of the arena reward pets. I modified the eggs for the traits I like, and all of the pets are SSS but garbage skills, and in the wrong slots. And like, 2 attacks with longer than normal cooldowns and 3 def/auxiliary moves. I thought they were supposed to be good 😒

all skills are standardized across all creatures, you should take whichever creature can become the smallest
also, check out the reddit spreadsheet I put above, it has subjective move rankings

Also, if you aren't going to use the one mod on nexus that makes evolving your pet free, you should at least just dupe the pellets. The amount you feasibly need to get the right moves on just one pet is astronomically outrageous

it is unclear as of now whether having a personality category at equal 0 affects the weighting, but it probably doesn't
so yes 100% independence but for the other 2 you just have to plan what moveset you want to run and then choose accordingly
for instance if you're using a pet with the agility boost move you will likely want playful for even more dodge chance (since higher agility than your opponent means they have a higher chance to miss, and dodge adds to that)

aggressive / gentle is kind of just whichever one you want to run, less moveset dependent

yes, but keep in mind offspring will have their moves randomized again, so it's really just a lot of chance on what values you get
because all moves have a range of damage/shielding/healing/etc they can achieve per creature
so you could have a heal move that does 900-990 on one creature but then another where it does 970-1160

Speed running levels in xeno is easy too. Just get someone to verse your guys with a singular companion that has the self damage team buff ability. Instant win for you. 0->27 levels on one companion instantly

Or afk for a little bit too long on the chairs in the xeno area whilst researching stuff and come back to random amounts of pellets

And even if I cleanse it, you can just switch to your other creature that still has the buff up while my cleanse is now on cooldown for a couple turns, very cheesy

When you go into photo mode, it will display the glyphs and galaxy on bottom left of the photo. (On PC you use shift to toggle the glyphs into view)
But on PC using Steam at least, you have to use Steam’s screenshot command for the glyphs to show up in the photo. For some reason the regular mouse-click that takes the picture won’t display the glyphs).
But on console I’m not sure how the screenshot works.

Sometimes people just take a pic of screen with their phone to share them 😆

Ok. If you visited the space station in that system it should show up in “recent” in your teleporter / jump gate menu

Or if you have been jumping between systems that are fairly close to each other in galaxy map, the galaxy map will show you which systems you’ve seen with a little circle around them

I started using that "companion unlocked" mod a couple days ago that allows you to get some creatures you usually can't get, like some fish and birds, mainly because I noticed a lot of the NPC's you battle against with creatures often use unobtainable creatures against you too, so I thought "Welp, if they can have this creaturws, then so can I!"

Hoping devs just eventually enable us to have these sorts of creatures too without the mod as it only makes sense

And the alteration might not even be the leg type - it might just be leg length or spots instead of stripes. Or the position of the eyebrow.

there were some given as reward for a past expedition, but you cannot tame them normally. You can ask in #nms-lfg-or-trades and see if anyone has a space egg / be patient.

For xeno arena:
Height/weight affects health (larger = more health) and agility (smaller = more agility).

Personality affects battle (gentleness gives combat debuffs to the enemy, devotion gives a heal, helpfulness affects dodge chance, etc).
