The gene splicer in the resequencer is notoriously finicky. Not a lot seems to work as far as I know and when it does the results are unpredictable. You would have more luck searching the coordinate exchange for another or using 3rd party tools to create a custom creature.

You can also create your own with 3rd party tools, but either way they require save editing if you want to adjust their size or flight behavior. Anyone who isn't on PC or who gets tired of trying to do it themselves can get eggs from other players who have them though. Try asking around in #1418605454300549120 or #nms-lfg-or-trades a lot of us have them already. The Riders of the Endless Skies can definitely help. We have entire catalogs of them ready and available.

The dye slot is the only one that really has an effect with these guys. I've never been able to get splicing to work, neural calibration doesn't do much of anything for them and attempting to adjust the size resets it to 1m or under, their default spawning size.

after reaching max potential on a creature the mutation stacks simply serve to cycle thru the abilities in one of the 5 slots
when you do this it's random which ability in that category you get, and there is no undo button
after you upgrade combat effectiveness you have to close then reopen the menu to see the stat changes on abilities, unless you reroll them
and an important note: SOME creatures can't seem to change the first ability at all, and it will still use gene edits
without... "illegal" methods... getting to this point seems very slow and difficult

after I did that I got an item to do like a series of tabletop battles with AI enemies
if you can't talk to it you might have to tame creatures first or something idk
once you beat enough of them you can fight a champion

it's a pretty simplistic gamemode all things considered, I can see ppl getting more established with what works and what doesn't, team comps, etc
it would be cool if there were multiple formats not just 3v3 singles but it is what it is, and it's not pokemon so

my only problem is that it's basically impossible to tell what agility your opponent's creature has so the turn order is just a mess
it's also incredibly slow to lvl up especially since every move change takes a lvl and is random
it would be better if unlocking a move was just a one time thing and you could switch it whenever

in battle the creature will randomly reference their personality and then do an ability type interaction
so it probably does something but it's unclear if it actually affects what the ability is
it's a bit like hidden ability in pokemon except it never explicitly tells you what it is until it uses it in battle
like for example my sand worm will be like "Name's high compassion activated abilityname on its own!" and then opponent gets -35% defense or something
but I think the ability that happens isn't consistent because it's spawned other effects as well

way too slow otherwise, you have to spend one every time you change a move (which is random!!!)

If you use the No Man's Sky wiki to look for what items affect the egg synthesizer, from what I recall, the information used to all be inverse for some reason. You can always try using one item and save scumming if it gives the opposite results as well, but some people may not like this

The ranking for each category sets the maximum value, so building up a triple C pet won't make it as strong as a triple B or A. Your best bet is finding creatures with A/S attributes. I guess you can modify an egg but no idea if you can alter the attribute ranks that way

You can disconnect from wifi and change your time on your system settings and then repeat, once you get a bunch of eggs you can reset your wifi, make a new save over the incorrect time or it will mess up timers, and then you have a bunch of eggs to test different mutations

It will autosave but you want save once youve put the time back to normal

I use a save point or get in and out of my ship to save it and then if you dont like the mutation you can reload the save so you dont waste eggs or resources

But you can duplicate most things if you put two small refiners stupid close together and putting something in one, then it will pop up in the other one

it's not a common database for pets, but I have a website I use to record portal addresses for interesting stuff, it's free to use, at https://gametools.vkarlsen.no
the portal address description uses markdown syntax, so if you have screenshots on a public address somewhere, such as imgur, you can link to them from your description

the things you enter are for your own use though, personal lists, so as I said, not a common database for everyone, I suspect nmsce will add one

I have gotten one pellet so far, and I actually found a triple-S companion on a planet, but I have no hope of others not just savegame editing their pets into oblivion.

So I don't think player-vs-player battles are going to be honest.

I was kind of let down with the whole corvette issue, so I've only played a few hours tonight, and then mostly just to try to find companions with good potential.

Most creatures I've found are either A or S type, with the odd B type mixed in.
I've yet to find a full, or at least partial C-type creature.

Tip for finding creatures of a certain biome type - look up the planetary material for that biome type in your catalogue and pin it, e.g. pyrite for desert creatures. 🙂

This is a silly question, but would a sort of "speed demon" build for a creature be effective? Minimizing HP for crazy agility and combat power.

it isn't a silly question, smaller creatures with higher agility stats will be better because they dodge attacks more often
the extra health isn't worth the chance to miss

yes, but also if you have a creature that's slower with an agility boost move + a move that scales based off your own agility you can flip the turn order and go twice in a row

you can also go twice in a row if your opponent is going first and knocks out your slow creature, then you switch in for free a fast creature

It sounds like I should have my first creature be a slow dude designed to chip away at my foes, or shut down their starting tactics. After the slow guy goes down, I can swap in my speed demon to sweep, hopefully.

Though I'll admit, I really can't think of a more fitting species for a fast creature than a bird. Unfortunately, you can't tame birds.
