Finding them is easy, but they normally can't be interacted with or adopted as companions. I have some that I edited in as companions and they work great, I'd be glad to give you an egg from one to hatch your own ^~^

It's really weird, since they only perform that amazingly and cool when their "CreatureType" is set wrong. The first video is it set correctly, while the second is what happens when it's set to anything other than "FlyingLizard"

Them having the "correct" behavior is significantly slower and more janky and nosediving constantly, the camera angle is neat and the flights are graceful until it scoops up it's tenth serving of soil

What's the deal with companions all of a sudden??? I just tried to hatch Appalling Egg and Grub Cocoon that were expedition rewards because I was able to finally make room for them, and I either get messages that they are not ready to hatch or I press E and the hatching sound happens but there is no companion pet!

I can't even load them into the Egg Sequencer, either.

What are the best components to put along with the living fossil egg?

There's nothing best or worst to make any creature better

You can use nearly any item in the gene splicing slot to re-randomize them, but with the fossil creatures they don't have variation so that does little

The growth hormone can have valuable things like gold and platinum jammed into it to make them huge

The dye slot can be used to recolor fauna, though I have no idea how that will affect it since it is new and not very variable

All of this stuff is subjective and very minor

If you mean for your own companions you can access a companion register by using the quick menu and then going all the way to the left. On xbox its either the top arrow button or the bottom ( the button you use to summon ships closer ) I'm not sure for PC, sorry if this is not what you meant 🙂

You would require a mod to tame them, or a save editor or something alike to get them as a pet. Players with one can trade them.

These creatures as a pet and without a mod can’t be interacted with so you wouldn’t be able to ride, pat, feed or induce egg.

Additionally when summoned anywhere but a space station or the anomaly the pet stays glued to the ground and fall to the lowest point it can, the player can force the pet into the ocean and it will swim around.

Not really, you can use catalog and guide to locate elements after you've obtained at least 1 of each sometime before, can help in identifying planet types.

Aside from that you really just have to scan and assess once you warp into a system.

Is there some sort of intro about breeding/eggs? I've only ever interacted with them as far as hatching eggs I got from expeditions

I believe there's a log on it? It's not too complicated though. You just need to is keep them happy and they'll produce an egg within, 24 hours or so, depending on the "trust" which just means they'll be more likely to produce an offspring for you to collect. That, and they'll only lay an egg within their habitat or a planet of a similar type, I believe.

It’s fun. Somewhere exists a list of effects each item has. Right now I like making large aggressive creatures even more so. I saw a dude on Reddit with a animal so fierce he’s able to command him to shoot animals with the laser attachment

Either way not worth it in any way as this is literally all it does and you won’t be able to interact with it.

Pretty sure the giant bugs in the game freak me out almost as much as bugs that size would in the real world. They need to make more actual cute, furry critters for the different planets. And more companion slots.
