it is really, inconsistent, but you need to be swimming full speed into the dirt and manage to stay close enough to the fauna to interact while keeping your crosshair on them. it could help to flatten the ground first but I haven't gone out and tried since I saw it was a thing

Anyone got any good seeds for dragons/griffins? I've heard you can't tame them, you can only use a save editor to add it or make an egg for it

here is one that i've found before, and in order to tame them you can save edit (which i've never save edited a new pet into existence so can't help there) but there is a mod if you're playing on PC that lets you tame them, though it still involves a lot of work getting up there to do so and they then need to be modified slightly in a save editor to be useful

Yeah, the SE'd ownable birdies are not cloud flyers, and don't go as high as you see in the wild. They're tethered to the terrain.

The SentinelWalker? I have it, but be aware, they're kinda glitchy. You can't interact with them, so no riding, feeding, or breeding. They also glitch out MultiPlayer when you summon them, so you can't even show them off to friends or on the Anomaly. Good for screenshots, but that's about it.

If youre talking about the Exp4 Worm... You can grow it a bit. Coloring doesn't take too well... kinda subtle changes. As for mutation: The stock worm has the Tri-Split mouth and Centipede legs. Any attempt at mutating changes it into the PepperGrinder/Leech head and Spiky Tail version. Those are the only two options.

Honestly, in my experience, the GeneSplicer always produces disappointing results. "Great. My baby orangutan now has an extra nipple and a speech impediment..."

It's kind of trial and error and not as random as you think. Different fauna types have a limited number of "features" that kind of get rotated thru. The ingredient you use is not important. You just need to add an "overdose" amount. Best bet is to create a hard save before you experiment, and reload when you don't like a result.

Yes, since it's the actual way of checking creature body proportions. If you just check creatures "in field" you can make a mistake since it can be a young creature (they have smaller body but same head size as adults) and body proportions will change as it'll gorw up.

For t-rexes there are two seeds per planet. Wander around, reload to find both of them. For example, red "ceratosaurus" had second seed of a huge ass-faced abomination (you probly know it, a bladder with small antennae instead of head)

Guys, is there a DB of gene splitting? I wanna dive a bit deeper in, tried two different t-rex eggs yday, got same results (horned head and "broken" thin fingers like the dodo above has). Are results always the same? Will creature change again if I gene split an offspring that's already been altered?

There are some pins here that may be of help. The only features that are more predictable are color and size. Creatures' features are random and come from a pool that a given creature can have (as is my understanding). So if you're modifying a protogek as an example, you'll always get a protogek with some unpredictable changes in features. Bit of trial and error if you wanna test things out.

@grave anvil For that, items don't have different effects, more like different potencies, so the amount required for the same dose strength. ie if it takes 999 Copper to hit 100% dose, it may only take 500 Silver, or 200 Gold, etc

@trail harness @trail harness So the way it's supposed to work is mutations will always happen in sequence. 0-100% Dose = 0-100% chance of a basic mutation. Overdose is supposed to be a different, more extreme mutation, according to a different sequence.

I'll take a look at flying snakes, but one thing I do know for sure is that you only get 1 mutation per generation, so you cannot repeatedly sequence the same egg for anything but 1 basic and 1 extreme mutation

Overdose usually adds something on like gills on that could be an overdose outcome

The major mutation could jump the head to T-Rex style with tusks, body to Bird Rex with feathered arms and long spikes, and a fat Alien tail. Overdose also tends to alter BoneScale, the size proportions for head/body/limbs.

if you have cadmium drive for your freighter, and the planetary scan room, id recommend warping to uncharted red star systems and scanning; if a planet says 0/2 for fauna, its robots

they are only found in uncharted systems

@lament river Also, if you land on a planet with only 2 creatures listed go to the menu with the creature food. If it shows pellets it's a regular animal, if it's Ion batteries the creatures on that planet are robots .

Adding on to this, for people interested. These can only spawn in uncharted systems. It's still a relatively low chance. They also eat batteries.

Some progress on the creature customizer update coming next week (which is part of the ship customizer). Finally we can customizer diplos/rhinos/tapir/hippo etc. including all procedural texture layers one by one and all color groups. You can either use it to search the creature with the tool and get a portal glyph location (since it "knows" the game creature generation code for planets) or create a seed value. You can also export the creature directly from the web app as companion file. Stay tuned 🥳

Looks like a mix of both, ones like “drill” “jellyfish” “flying snake” etc prob are non normally obtainable

Tho jelly could be that one weird jelly thing you can tame but not ride others tho look like it

These are all animals. Not all can be pets but can be forced to be pets. If you force it via savegame edit or other methods it won't have the pet interactions as usual in some cases. But yes you can even have a walker as pet on console

Without mods or editing : Moles aren't tameable, the fish, the plough, proto digger, shark, anything with swim in it, the sentinels ofc...

Yes you can egg every creature type with a saveeditor and send it to console players.

Nice I was curious with those because how the animation would play in anomaly, I got a couple fish and delrict ones, planetside they want to stick to ground, station an anomaly they work normal

Digger squids seem to work fine also seen a couple of those, but yeah never seen those guys or the hex things and such that “pop” out of ground

The tentacles can be tamed with the mod, eggs can be given, but they never show up when summoned, which is a shame, would love one. Turtles do so I'd imagine the moles would too.

@trail harness Because mushroom beetles are a subset of spiders, any subset can be a contender for rarest combination - I gave this combo the temporary name Helmeted Tigrena, hind legs cat, helmet, lizard mesh, back fins, and tail accessory. I mentioned mushroom beetles are 1 in 80k spiders; this combination is 1 in 1.3 trillion cats.
