and, while on that subject, we still need "double volume" rooms. rooms that when built over rooms dont place a floor. so we can build multi volume spaces
because you can't build convincing hangars and warp drive rooms in a freighter with a low ceiling
Like extended ceiling?
Ah I get u
Yes that'd be cool
Rn the funny thing about freighters is if u look where the hanger bay is. If u build a big freighter base. They are bigger on my he outside then inside
oh ya. theres no space at all for the players base.
you guys mean like this?
I'd really like to see an update that adds more lore related events/encounters
The only missions we have related to the lore rn are ones that come from the anomaly, I personally think it'd be cool to just stumble across lore-related events on planets or in solar systems
Like you could just stumble across a Vy'keen turf war on a planet, or have a chance for pirates to attack space stations when the player is near them
Just anything that isn't explicitly a "talk to this person then go do x" point a to point b lore quest really
Doesn't even have to be lore either I just think random chance encounters would be nice
add auroras(?)
Here me out. A new update called No Man's Sky: At War. This would create live events in every galaxy. Each player chooses to side with the Vykeen or the Atlas (aka the sentinals). If you choose to side with Atlas (Atlas will be its own faction now), you lose rep with the Vykeen but after rank 8 sentinals will no longer attack you no matter what you do. And if the war meter in that galaxy goes all red, Atlas won that galaxy and the Vykeen are driven to extinction in that galaxy (any Vykeen systems would become abandoned). This would be a community event. Both sides would have their own quest line with each having an S-class Frieghter, ship, or multitool exclusive to their respective questlines. Also you would have the chance to run into battlefield systems where massive space battles will be occuring nonstop and even planetary battles with Vykeen soldiers versus sentinals. On battlefield planets you can visit the warbunkers for each repective faction. The completion of a questline by any player in the given galaxy gives warpoints to either the Vykeen or Atlas. These questlines are repeatable until one faction wins the war. The victory "grace" period will last about five days and then it would reset.
Also the questlines would be repeatable and to start the questlines just talk to the commander at eack respective warbunker.
Black market X class freighters
Maybe u could only get them for an limited time expedition
A proper endgame, even the supposedly challenging activities such as collecting larval cores/doing derelict freighters can be easily done with zero upgrades
What is a proper endgame? <---not an attack, I'm curious what that would entail
🤔 can be multiple things. Maybe more difficult combat encounters or access to systems/planets with special challenges to overcome
I mean, you need to get the indium drive to access blue star systems
but they aren't really different from regular ones (aside from more frequent extreme planets and activated indium)
which is a wasted opportunity I think 🤷
I liked the idea of galaxies being vastly different - would love to see some depth added there, ones that if you aren't endgame, you won't survive kinda thing
Wasn't it advertised before release that planets would get weirder the closer you get to the galactic core?
Sorta, misconstrued a bit - they said it would be cool if -
🤔 I see
That would be pretty neat imo - not sure if that is a possible thing to implement now though....maybe an addition to the planet counts in systems, instead of 6 cap
Anyways, heres what I would suggest:
• Rework the upgrade system to create meaningful progression from C to S-Class upgrades
→ buff C- and B-Class upgrades to be usable
→ higher tier upgrades should only be available in harder to reach systems (green, blue)
→ higher tier upgrades should require higher faction standing or be obtainable through violence (such as raiding sentinel camps)
→ introduce the U (Unique) class: which aside from providing generic bonuses (C to S) also bring a unique modifiers (ricochet for boltcaster, a lockon ability for the pulse spitter, a drone swarm ability for the mining laser)
(more later)
• Overhaul Sentinels
→ Different types of sentinels should appear depending on security level and biome:
→ Toxic/Swamp: Rangers, fragile sentinels with a cloaking device which keep their distance to snipe you with their locally poisoned darts, bypassing shields
→ Desert/Hot: Cremators, agressive sentinels equipped with flamethrowers and incendiary grenade launchers to set the ground ablaze. They explode upon destruciton
→ Cold: Ravagers, tanky brawlers armoring themselves with thick layers of ice, while they don't deal as much damage they can slow/entirely freeze you, leaving you defenceless to regular sentinels
→ Radioactive, Irrediatiors, spiderbots which deploy to ignite a small artificial sun, either destroy them as quickly as possible or seek cover from the intense radiation, which shreds apart your shield
• Sentinels on high security planets:
→ only appear in green/blue star systems
→ Aside from regular and biome specific sentinels, sentinels also have a chance to spawn as an elite type
→ elite types have increased health, damage as well as special perks such as:
→ taunting all near sentinels are immune to damage as long as the taunting sentinel is alive
→ dublicating this sentinel will create an exact copy of itself every now and then
→ Manipulating This sentinel can call upon nearby fauna to attack you, summon xenomorphs from the ground, etc
→ Marking Once hit by this sentinel, you'll receive a tempoary debuff which allows all nearby sentinels to lock onto you, thus making attacks undodgable
You can submit bug reports or suggestions/feedback directly to Hello Games with this link: https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
• Rework freighter battles
→ Freighters now have shielding weakpoints you need to destroy (any combat frigates you own may help you with that)
→ Once shielding is destroyed, you may destroy the freighter entirely or land on it in an attempt to capture it
→ Once in, you'll face desolation-style interiors (before the ruination of course), battling turrets, traps and defensive drones (all of which may have the elite buffs as named above)
→ For additional rewards, you may use previously obtained agricultural products (such as circuit boards) to hack advanced security systems or to blow up some saves (liquid explosive)
I'd like to add onto this
Freighters should be pilotable (in 3rd person only) with tank controls, the mouse controls the turrets (like Fractured Space or World of Warships), each turret having it's own cone of fire so tactical positioning would be key.
• Overhaul the frigate/fleet system
→ by using salvaged frigate modules you may obtain active frigate abilities
→ Combat Frigates call for orbital bombardements while fighting on planetary surfaces
→ Industrial Frigates call for orbital excavation, simply mark an ore vein (copper for example) and it will be rapidly mined until its depleted
→ Exploration Frigates call for powerful scans, maybe revealing you a guaranteed spawning spot for rare underground creatures which are unfindable
→ Mercantile Frigates call for pilots to land next to you, allowing to trade goods, drop a galactic trade terminal where ever you are
Fleets of exploration vessels contain long-range scanners to survey systems for hostile fleet compositions and provide intel on sentinel presence. Essentially AWACS frigates.
Aside from that, frigates should be able to follow the player vessel assisting them with frigate battles and disabling space stations.
• Overhaul the reward system
→ aside from rewarding units and nanites, undertaking end-game tasks may reward you with Unique Upgrades/Blueprints
As mentioned above, unique upgrades may provide generic bonuses. However, they also posess modifiers which change the properties of said upgraded thing. Here are some Ideas:
→ Unstable Rocket Boot Overcharger: Rocket boots now have a 8 minute cooldown. However, upon using them, you'll get launched for at least 3.000 u, the ground you launched yourself from is burning.
→ Pulse needles: Hitting many shots with a pulse spitter may now cause the target to explode (similar to needle gun from halo)
→ Plasma loopholes: Instead of plasma grenades exploding, they now teleport the player to the location of impact (thus allowing for great mobility)
→ Excavation bot marker Replaces your mining beam with a laser pointer with which you can mark minerals/plants. Once marked, tiny robots may be released from your backpack. Altough they excavate slower than a regular mining beam, this in return allows you to mine multiple objects at once
Rocket boot overchargers sound cool, but I can't think of any reason I'd need to go higher than a few hundred u. Maybe something to warrant the name having 'unstable' in it would be cool. Plasma loopholes sound like a great QOL feature.
→ Lightning Lance replaces the thermal lance with a charged thunderbolt. Altough dealing less damage, it is able to chain to nearby hostiles
→ Bullet Bouncer turns the personal force field into a timed ability with cooldown. While active, any projectiles hitting the shield are redirected
These are unique modifiers I could come up with spontaneously 🤷
You also could bind these modifiers to multitools with neat looking new models. That way you can keep searching for MT's with said modifier, however, looks and stats (perhaps even class) may vary
But I think this puts into perspective that No Mans Sky could still implement a lot in terms of RPG aspects and general progression
As of now, its a bit stale. Why even go for C-A class upgrades when you can skip straight to S?
I managed to obtain an S-Class experimental + S-Class 48-slot hauler within just 12 hours of gameplay
honestly the living ship's module upgrade system makes more sense
What are living ships? 😄
some creatures that want to swallow you whole and take you off somewhere
I mean it's true lol
lel
But getting them isn't challenging, its rather tedious
And aside from looking cool there isn't much which distinguishes them from regular ships
there is a practical difference right away - no star type restrictions
takes a lot less in terms of fuel
And other than ^, they aren't practical.
give me a way to set the starfield as a permanent thing so it can be like a lava lamp
Xbox console mod support
I would suggest playstation as well, but Sony doesnt like mods apparently
xbox has some mod support on certain games
cosmetic mods would be nice
I think mods just need to be supported via a neutral language like lua. talk to a supported api.
and be uploaded to a curated 'market'.
a curated mod marketplace should be fine, as there would be quality control and age ratings that Sony would want to ensure they don't lose their reputation of being kid friendly
I want NMS to come to Switch, but the system probably can't handle NMS. Maybe if the rumors of a Switch Pro are real...
As much crap as they are given, gyroscopic controls on the joycons or pro controller really are nice sometimes
how about renting/buying a room on a space station to act as yet another alternative to a base? i know i'd kill for a room on one of those things with a view of the nearby ring planet
I don't know what the point is since you can build bases so easily.
i dunno... buy and sell materials and commodities and give them to traders visiting the station in order to make an elaborate trade network and become a space stock broker?
Bigger fleet would be really cool, I think you should be able to have 5 capital ships along with your fleet that would make space battles alot cooler, and being able to find bigger support ships with your fleet.
I think it would be awesome if the unused door in stations always led to a player specific station base.
While on the subject however, There should be an option for rooms placed along the edge of the buildable area for freighter bases to have floor to ceiling windows, looking out into space.
I want to build my own Capt Picard style captain quarters.
Id love to see an overhaul to the FPS aspect of the game, such as better weapon combat and more scenarios to use it in, larger abandonded hostile korvax, gek, vy'keen. cover system, i believe an overhaul to this would also be great to redo abandonded freighters, you might run into scrappers/pirates who discovered it before you, and you must fight them for the loot that they carry. Also being able to see your characters body when you look down. Multitools can have different sub classes, such as drill (mining) + mining speed and resources gained, Rifle (combat) + damage and range, Pistol (combat) lower damage than rifle but higher Rate of fire, experimental variants and alien variants all have these sub classes such as experimenal pistol, drill or rifle same goes for alien variety.
Story could also use an incredible rework, the story is terrible Right now
Also more ship inventory slots when you get a freighter, a dialogue speed option, a skip all dialogue button
I get that having 4 players in a group and 4 fleets is broken but can we at least bring our capita ships with us? Really annoying having to switch star systems just to use your freighter
i think nms should get a combat update, with new enemies, ect, so combat would not just be sentintals ect
Not broken. Just toggled off. The game can perfectly handle 4 player fleets per session and if you're on PC you can even toggle the thing on in debug globals
some people have already made mods that toggle it on. It's just one variable set to off
different coloured snow and grass?
We are missing the shield visual effects, there should be some dome flashing effect when getting hit, not just sparkles flashing off the hull (maybe a glowing skin flash for living ship?)
imagine infinitely more unique planets, and all it takes is mish-mashing assets from exotic planets and multicoloured grass, snow and sand
Yeh, there was a time pre-next when snow and rock planets had more colors
there could be all sorts of snow colors
also there were many more sunset and night sky colors as well
do w eknow if they will add exotic, burrowing, rolling, and flying species to the companion list?
also Aquatic pets
i dont know how aquatic could work, unless you can only use them in the water
Well, more emergent planet biomes.
the "unusual" planet biomes where they just mishmash some exotic elements alongside some elements from a lush world seem uninspired.
i think if a planets biome was a combination of temperature and chemistry, then the game could generate planets with natural equatorial and alpine regions that were different.
there is another thing that distinguishes them, the lack of need for normal upgrades and tech, living ships can only get upgrades and tech from smashing void eggs in space encounters
Wouldn't it just be a better alien multi tool?
itd have the same architecture as a living ship
And itd sorta open up when mining like how the living ship does when it luanches
it could have some really weird and unique techs exclusive to it, maybe
things you wouldnt see with other multitools
living versions of everything
living exosuit?
also called skin
skin just doesnt sound as badass though
It's points like these that make me wish they doubled down on the original concept of the game, rather than everything else.
No slight against people who love all the new mechanics and streamlining HG have done since launch, as I really like it all too, but I'm also one of those people who invested most of their hours between 1.0 and 1.3. Stuff like atmospheric chemistry, distance to sun, and other factors building a truly procedural planet would've been awe inspiring. But we never got that.
And it's weird because HG clearly dreamt of such, at some point. It always seemed like this kind of generation mechanic was intended, but never came to fruition.

**Hidden Planets **

Introducing **Hidden Planets **! Stellar bodies you can't enter through ordinary means.
• Interacting with planetary Portal now presents you with a third option: requesting guidance
→ upon requesting guidance, you'll be given a strange device, called the leyline seeker. Bring it to the approximate location marked out for you on your HUD.
→ once there, the device will activate, leaving your inventory and accompany you as a floating eyeball 👁️ next to your character.
→ for the device to operate it needs to capture a sentinel drone. Find one and weaken it enough for the device to intrude upon its body.
→ once captured, the drone will fly to a new destination: be sure to not loose it!
→ the drone will guide you to a new, smaller Portal structure with a pre-set hidden destination. Once there, the device will leave the drone and insert itself to the structure, thus activating it.

Hidden Planets feature **unique properties **, they're usually tiny and completely explorable within one hour. However, they introduce new exotic, bizarre biomes featuring unique mechanics and many new **points of interest **.
Okay thats a really cool idea.
New generation algorithms allow hidden planets to appear in **exotic shapes **, such as them being flat, cylindrical (Inside a cylinder, great verticality), entirely underground, without a sun and many more variations!
New Points of Interest present the player with many great challenges, demanding combat and logistics to overcome. An example would be a **sealed tomb **. The Rock blocking the entrance is indestructible and too heavy to move through ordinary means. Scout the field for **a ruined Golem **, dispose of any hostiles guarding it and power it by using biofuel generators, solar panels or geothermal plants.
Once powered, mounting the Golem serves as** an exclusive substitute for Exocrafts**. Ride it to the tomb, and it will automatically remove the rock hindering access.

Once inside however, expect to face more traps and barriers to hinder your advance. Use previously crafted **advanced Products ** (such as liquid explosives) to evade opposition, unlock more reward chambers or disable security systems.

Another example could be a giant sleeping creature (coded as a stationary structure). Cook up a specific meal from local flora and present it to the creature. Once it smells the dish, it will open its mouth, thus allowing you entry.

Or find strange merchants which sell unique wares (one of the smaller encounters)
Exploring Hidden Planets can be done **at any stage of the game. **However, obtaining **valuable rewards **is an endgame activity, requiring both upgrades and preparation to be successful. Rewards can feature **Unique Blueprints ** (U-Class, check response) or **adoptable Companions with special abilities. **
You are still suggesting to them as well, yes?
That is alright, maybe it fires off an idea in their heads
Perhaps 🤷
? They release smaller updates, yes. But there are still yearly major updates (such as beyond, origins) which usually drop in summer
You need to respect the fact that they're only a small indie team with less than 50 (?) people working on it
Besides, there probably were many technical hurdles to overcome as well, such as adding millions of new planets to the universe without having to completely reset everything like they did in NEXT
And you surely noticed that there were long periods with zero updates before the game was bought by microsoft
What do you mean by lively? Minecraft has pre-existing flora and fauna and is limited to a single world
What do you mean by more lively?
🤔 I guess you have a point there
But there are certainly technical limitations from hindering them to make changes to generation algorithms (be it performance or other stuff), otherwise they would probably have already done it
🤷 can't comment on whats going on behind the scenes
Maybe they face engine limitations, which is why they only can add little bits of content here and there. But groundbreaking changes are difficult to introduce
This is also what halted further development on Terraria I think 🤔
Guess only time will tell what the future brings for NMS
Day idk what of asking for Multi crowed ships
The current tech system is really rather boring, and the C-B-A-S classes don't make the game deeper or more interesting, instead encouraging save scumming just to get A or S class gear. Here's a few ideas I've had to hopefully make technology and gear not just more unique and interesting, but hopefully more fun and rewarding to build your equipment around:
-Get rid of the class system. I hate it, and it serves no purpose other than to introduce an arbitrary grind within a grind (farm nanites, but now you need to farm more nanites! Fun!). Mechanically, make all tech the current "X" Class, and make their effects truly procedural - the tech you find on a specific planet is specific to that planet, and not a generic piece of garbage. Co-ordinate sharing could now be used for finding rare tech, as their locations can be fixed (procedural!)
-Make the procedural tech you find into blueprints rather than one-click modules. This will encourage you to be on-planet more often, or trading with NPCs for resources. Make blueprints more common than modules currently are in damaged machinery. Introduce new interactions with facilities, NPCs, crashed ships, and crashed freighters to acquire more cool tech. Remove the Wiring Loom blueprint, as it is uncraftable and can only really be acquired easily from Space Stations, which is frustrating to have to go buy more of to install even simple techs.
-Blueprints should be one-use only, so no stacking! Your loadouts really will be "customised", as the techs you'll acquire later in your journey will differ to those you had early on.
-Make blueprints into an economical resource: allow trading of them between players, or allow sale to NPC's for nanites or units.
-Balance blueprints so that those acquired from crashed/derelict freighters, on-planet vendors and damaged machinery to have a higher chance of interesting statistical modifications, whilst those acquired from Space Station merchants are more simple, with flatter, lower buffs.
-Rebalance the game so that Sentinels aim in a more intelligent manner, do more damage, and are easier to escape from (no more homing drones who know exactly where you are at all times). This will allow debuffs to the tech as it currently works, even for players of lesser shooting skills, as they can try to escape when things get dicey.
-Remove the class system from multi-tools and ships. Make ship and multi-tool specialisations matter more: make haulers true space trucks, with specialised cargo slots no other ship gets; make fighters real interceptors, with speed and agility unmatched by anything else. Stats on a ship and weapon should also be procedural, and not rely on arbitrary class stratification to introduce shallow "depth" to their acquisition and upgrades
-Introduce cool effects that certain tech may provide. I prototyped a mod over a year ago which introduced some simple modifications, which the game as of now can actually handle: crafted tech that give large buffs to firerate, but reduces magazine capacity, or a technology that increases hazard protection massively, but reduces your combat shielding massively (and another that does the reverse), or a technology that increases mining beam damage, but greatly increases its heat buildup, among others. If even I can make tech that have major positives and negatives, I'm sure HG can do the same.
Playing 1.0 again recently made me realise how much I miss cool ships that I find just being ships, and how much I enjoyed finding cool tech and having to go to explore to find the Iridium required, or salvaging crashed ships for Omegon to craft high-end weapon parts. When I first read NEXT would introduce "procedural tech", I hoped it would function similarly to what I said above, rather than the current system.
its way to late for this, maybe if this was suggested when the game first came out, but these systems are core mechanics i doubt they will ever change
I agree, it's unlikely, but I'd like to put the idea out there anyway. Even if the direction the game's gone in since launch has slowly but surely gone in a direction favouring dumb class systems, they still added those in post launch, and I'd like to think they could reduce the overreach somewhat in the future
There's nothing about these systems as they stand that make them essential. People make mods that just make everything S-Class forever, so it's just simple stratification at a code level. It's a conscious choice to keep them as they are, but I guess people enjoy the grind, which is fair
This whole channel is full of "wishful thinking", this is just mine, lol
the class systems were there since day 1
Nope, they added them in Pathfinder
Well, one thing they did have was some minor differences in ship specialisation back then. I'm pretty sure Haulers had the extra 1 hit point, iirc. But no CBAS class systems
And I would probably join a few here in Creative and just enjoy the universe, but I do still like some form of progression to my journeys in games, just not when it feels arbitrary and unneeded!
looked it up your right, but was added in atlas rises, i completely forgot classes werent a thing
Yeah, it's been in the game longer than it hasn't been!
ctrl + f "own multiple ships" to reach the relevant part
he subject of this article is from the Atlas Rises update.
The information from this article is up-to-date as of 23 July, 2018.
The wiki's a mess, trust me!
No worries, they haven't removed class system
HG please let us obtain sentinel starships, thanks
I wouldn't even mind having to work for it
Perhaps it would involve a mission where you have to disable a sentinel starship in battle without outright destroying it (via some new stun weapon or something), and then collecting it from a crash site on a nearby planet
And then having to do some sort of special repairs to it in order to remove the core to cut it off from the sentinel hivemind
Speaking of, why not introduce some sort of EMP pulse weapon made specifically to counter sentinel starships while also having the utility of disabling freighter guns and enemy starships for a limited time. It's a hard counter for sentinels since it could possibly allow your industrial vessels to warp to the sector and begin automatically salvaging the floating sentinel ships for scrap and salvage. Let's say about 2h per 2 sentinels disabled? Rewards could include rusted metal, tainted metal (uncommon), fleet modules (rare), storage augmentations (rare) or S/X blueprints (very rare)
I mean our combat vessels have some kind of use outside fleet missions, why not apply some sort of utility to the other types, apart from the obvious benefits of landing on them when they're idle and collecting small rewards they give
we should be able to get close to stars
For what purpose?
Maybe siphoning gases directly from them, but it requires highly specialized equipment, or even industrial frigates
For what purpose?
So that we can remove the bloody stupid black holes we have and replace them with stellar black holes.
i wouldnt mind if one day we could have a second fleet, commanded by a second freighter that can be sent on more grand scale mission
I would like it if space anomalies were targets on in-system frigate missions.
Discoverer a wierd alien object - summon a science frigate
Discover a mineral object, summon a industrial frigate
Discover a comms station - bring a trade frigate
that would be cool, especially for all those ones that do little to nothing like the stellar intelligence or rubble of the first one
A pirate base, bring a combat frigate
In addition, simply sending frigates to orbit planets should have effects: Science frigates orbiting a world would scan for ruins and alien sites and that planet would always have one such unvisited POI per frigate in orbit. Combat frigates would mark facilities. Trade frigates would mark outposts.
i kinda wish there was more purpose to the frigates too
kind sendin 3 of them to a system you havent been too and in like 1 hour they return with some highlights
like ancient ruin locations or something like that
definately. There I think it would be nice if the the after mission briefings could be re-read, and perhaps pinned, which would highlight the systems in the galaxy map.
And also the systems visited would get listed as 'scanned' in the Discoveries view. Scanned systems are not discovered and can't be claimed. But any of the planets and objects the frigates interacted with would show up, so if there was a paradise planet or something interesting, you could physically go there to register the discovery permanently.
I think scanning systems should reveal other player discoveries however - especially bases.

**Cooking QOL Improvements **

Interactions with **Iteration: Cronus **have been drastically sped up! Instead of turning in each piece of dish individually, Travellers may submit their culinary achievements **all at once **with **this newly designed menu! **

Watch your food being rated in a speedy fashion. Well made dishes will make their way to the top of the scale, while abject failures land at the very bottom. Your Nanite reward is displayed in the right.
Committed cooks may choose to undergo **special challenges **presented by **Cronus. ** They will task you with cooking and delivering **advanced dishes **in a timely manner (recipes are displayed in mission).
Rewards can Include **Nanites **
, a handsome **Quicksilver paycheck **
and most importantly: **impressing Cronus. **
Upon growing your standing with the anomalous cook, Travellers may unlock **special upgrades **aiding them in their culinary quest. Such as:
• A **personal nutrient processor, ** allowing you to cook up dishes while being mobile.
• The **milk magnet: ** by installing this technology, recently fed animals within your vicinity are automatically harvested.
• The **culinary transmitter, **a device that allows you to deliver dishes to Cronus **without having to enter the anomaly **. Simply use the device by activating it in your hotbar (utilities).

**This entry finishes here **

I suppose this is one of my less ambitious suggestions 😄
You had me at Cooking QOL
👍
This is my third submission to zendesk already
I hope they don't grow weary of me
:D Prolly don't read them anyways, you cant tell 🤷
Altough they wrote that they read all of em'
I believe it, the question would be how quickly they get through them - small team
tru
Anyways, if we get a sped up cronus interaction with a menu resembling this (response). You know from whom'st they got their inspiration from 😂👌
A small QoL thing but... how about throttle cruise control for starships?
I wouldn't call that a SMALL improvement tbh
I wish we could actually pilot our capital ships like we do starships. But what I have wanted most is an in game client where you come up with a faction and can claim star systems in the name of said faction. Then you could have a faction starfleet and such. A faction leader or managers can arrive at systems and claim them to add to your "empire".
You can scrap them and sell the scrap.
No but just selling it straight up
Space bunny head appearance.
There's shark head, walrus head, cthulu head, tree head... I want a bunny head.
As long ans we have more direct control, I'm ok with that. Building an empire and claiming star systems is more what I would love to see
the dream is to be able to do half the things they talk about in he frigate mission flavor text, which I guess would include actually being able to pilot the ships
does anyone else find it interesting that the planet used to showcase ui improvements in the expeditions patch notes is named konangko?
(the planet showcased in the first month of ign first)
i'm not saying it definitely means something, but it definitely could
i need this
i need this right now
i have 2 stacks of food
Send your prayers to sean
Normal Mode (Quickstart)
When starting a normal save, the player could choose between going through the story (recommended for first-timers), or do a short expedition-like set of quickstart missions that reward the same things as the story.
This could be expanded by adding extra "phases" designed to help people get started with specific activites like cooking, base building, or breeding eggs, similar to Runescape 3's Path System.
This could also be added to Survival/Permadeath with reduced rewards.
I havent fully worked out this idea, but something like this would be nice for those of us starting second saves.
sounds nice
I'm absolutely behind a quick start for repeating other modes; gotten tired of the story thing
16
sixteen
Thats a great idea. The game really opens up once you have unlocked the anomaly, so starting in the anomaly would be a great spot to start your save I think 🤔
Other than that, you could always choose to start the campaign or get your portal glyphs through seeking traveller graves
Yeah thats also a good way to quickstart a save.
List of of fewtures i just think would be rlly neet:
•mid size ships that you. Can pilot but also walk around in
•proper implementation of space bases and stuff like that
•improved combat systems
multi-player frigates/gunships would be something fun to consider, but i think they'd have to improve the netcode a little bit before that happens
Switch Nintendo Switch
switch does NOT have the capacity to run this game
unfortunately :(
apparently they're making a new switch that's supposed to be more powerful, so maybe on that
then again, don't own a switch nor am i interested in it so i can't vouch for that myself
ill believe it when i see an official announcement tbh
ive seen way too many switch pro rumors
Was the expeditions patch considered the BIG release of the year? They have stated in the past that they do one major banger update then sprinkle in smaller ones throughout the year
Its not a major update
Nice, something to look forward to then
when are the big updates usually released?
There's no way he's introducing planetary orbits, right?
how is that going to work. The planets are all a few 100ku from each other.
Orbits would mean they would go around the sun. and the sun(s) are already so far away at the speeds our starships travel that we can "never" get there.
Isn't the no man's sky sun built into a skybox?
And it can work by literally changing how that's implemented entirely.
It's because it requires a large core design overhaul that I'm incredibly skeptical it would happen.
prolly won't happen
they took out planetary rotation cause people thought it was a bug
There's 2 levels of wrong with that statement.
1st level: what the hell is unnatural about planets rotating?
2nd level: why the hell would Hello Games pay attention to an obviously stupid bug report.
You are leaving information out.
It's the "official statement" on the matter, that's all. It's what HG said around launch: that playtesters found the constant movement of POI's like the space station relative to their position on a planet confusing, so they removed it
Whether you believe that to be true or not is up to you, but we can only work with what they've told us
I wonder what Elite Dangerous did when they got those complaints.
the point is, people found it confusing because when they left a planet to go to a space station and then came back, everything was different. this was also before any of the updates that allowed planets to look the same in space as they do in orbit, so finding where you were before would've been an exercise in frustration
yeah, i find it weird that all the systems are now geocentric, but it's something i can live with for the sake of convenience
maybe they could bring it back if you could somehow mark your previous landing zone without needing to put down a base computer and generally made the planetary rotation slower, with smaller planets having faster rotation for obvious reasons
Save Beacons.
Custom Markers.
Rotation is an irrelevant concern with the way the Pulse Engine will wrap you around planets in the blink of an eye to reach Tagged markers.
keep in mind that wasn't a thing in the early builds. pulse engine orbiting was a feature that got added way later
But your "ifs" are all checked.
modern day they shoulod be rotating, but at release it made sence
well to some, i have not found any person that thought stationary planets was a good idea
most just shake their head at the thought that play testers were confused that planets moved
like really it makes much more sence for them to move and be dynamic
I just want to be able to move the base computer after we’ve activated the base, and for it to default to facing forward when you place it, rather having to rotate it slightly to get it to face you
The Base Computer is annoying, cause it rotates itself 45 degrees after placement, but the snap rotate is only 90 degrees.
i just put it off to the side as a land claim post, and build away from it
I usually stick it near one of those beacons if there's one nearby where I plan to build, or else just hide it in a box with a doorway on one side to get to it
Unrelated, I think it would make more sense if planets would have multiple biomes in them.
They need a cave update where they have more different types of caves as well as a chance to run in to inhabited or abandoned underground bases or mines
and have them go much deeper than they do now like almost to the core of the planet
i agree
The big issue I have with caves and underground stuff in general is the impenetrable ground that doesn't seem to have any real reason behind its placement and often has objects below it that we're supposed to be able to get
My suspicion is that the terrain gen was changed to be more extreme. But the item placement code still uses the old terrain code to place things so it sometimes just places a salvage data in midair - or under the bedrock.
but, if different galaxies are meant to be different iterations of the Atlas reflecting different and growing versions of its insanity
perhaps, after the first 20 odd galaxies, we should find galaxies where none of the planets have bedrock. They are all just hollow shells. cut away most of the hollow shell and a galaxy is full of Myst style floating islands.
i wonder what an iteration would look like closer to the end
how crazy would the planets and systems be
My future wishlist is a combat overhaul
More aggressive enemy aircraft
More-in-atmosphere battles
Patches so your freighter doesn’t bug out every time it engages in combat
Freighter destruction
Etc...
i may have mentioned this before, but Id really like discoveries to be revamped.
tabs to index by flora, fauna, planet. a searchbox to search by name. favorites so I can pin planets and fauna id like to return to.
lets not beat around the bush. We should be able to catalog things like starships under discoveries too. We know that starship models are a collectable. Why not add a tab and allow players to scan and collect starship models and know where to find them?
And an "all saves" filter that collates discoveries from all saves. Because ultimately ODS doesn't care which save they come from.
While on the surface of a planet, in addition to being able to summon our freighter, we should be able to summon individual frigates by type (depending on what our freighter has available).
Summoning a frigate brings it away from your freighter for a ~1 hour mission, during which time it is away and unavailable for missions.
While in orbit it will highlight unvisited points of interest, depending on its type, explorers will highlight ruins and plaques, traders will highlight outposts etc. When you first call them, and when you clear a POI, they have a scan interval before a POI appears that depends on their class, that is perhaps as short as 30seconds for an S class and 5 minutes for a C class.
Each frigate in orbit only highlights a single POI at a time.
You can summon additional frigates up to a maximum of 5 in a single system as all the frigates in a system count as a frigate fleet mission and need a mission room.
Each support frigate summoned doubles the duration of the mission.
When I first played this game with PSVR one of my favorite features was being able to fly my starship with the Dualshock 4 controller and use the PS Move controllers for my hands. Now I play on PC with a Rift S, but the only way to pilot my ship is with the slippery motion controls. I'd like to have controllers be supported in VR on PC, or at the very least have the option to control my ship with the Oculus Touch controller's analog sticks.
It would instantly fix the biggest problem I have with playing the game in VR, and I'd be hopelessly addicted for the rest of eternity. Anyone else have this issue with PC VR?
my wishlist (including some stuff ive seen here):
more depth in planets (biomes on planets. If a planet is a colder planet than others, then the other biomes that dont have anything related to the cold would either be much weaker in intensity or non-existent, with certain very extreme planets only having one biome. also, make the waters like playing subnautica, where there is actual things to do underwater other than searching for ships and building underwater bases, but whatever they add to do underwater should be worth the risk of the next thing they should add, big scary underwater dangers. they advertised big scary underwater monsters, but never have i seen one. and better, bigger, more interesting caves.)
combat: needs some serious work. I think its bad on the ground, and starship combat could be less repetitive and more epic in my opinion.
the ability to build our own space structures. like space stations and stuff that people entering a system and flying in space would see orbiting a planet
planet rotation and orbit. i dont know what brain dead QA guy didnt understand the concept that planets spin/go around the stars. this would work with the space structures we built.
I think - to extend that biome idea, we have 3 basic planet chemistries: nitrogen, sulphurine, radon to work with.
HG should make cold, temperate and hot (with extreme cold and extreme hot) biome's for each base chemistry.
Then, when it generates a planet it can pick a base chemistry. a base temperature. Apply a polar temperature gradient, as well as an alpine temperature gradient - which depending on the extremes could mean that mountain peaks and poles get different biomes to the equatorial regions.
You can then have planets that are simultaneously cold and toxic. or hot and toxic, or, well, temperate.
a planet could be a firery hell around the equator, with a lush paradise at the poles. or a fridgid wasteland at the poles. with a lush paradise around the equator.
🤔 Multi-biome planets would be cool for sure
but I think there are some technical limitations hindering them from implementing such a system.
otherwise they prolly would have already done it with the origins update
I'd love to have a Dyson Sphere base one day.
For that matter - why don't they introduce nuclear reactors for power that use uranium or tritium for power?
or a passive generator that uses heart of the sun
that can be placed anywhere and serve as a full strength electromagnetic generator
I mean that would make sense, right?
Well, who knows. It may be in the plans one day.
also - really, they need to have that be used in more than just 2 things ...
The Tritium?
heart of the sun
Hm...
using them in crafting the various storage expansion modules would be a start ...
Ice volcano (Cryovolcano) and mud volcano would fit in their respective biomes
When are they going to unlock the bottom row of storage? Thats what I want to know
I mean, are we not ever going to talk about the fact that storage containers are 5x4, but theres an apparently unlockable 5th row to expand them to 5x5?
Feature Request:
A viewing deck on the bottom of the Freighter.
Addition: viewports or 'holoscreens' or whatever you want to call it - so we can have windows on our freighters without mods
it's because it goes against the focus of the game
no man's sky isn't some neutral universe simulator, it has a really strong identity
stuff like multiple biomes per planet or large cities are certainly cool things, but they don't fit with the very specific and unique thing that no man's sky visually is
I kinda’ wish the terrain editor wasn’t so simple
Square mining options would be great, for instance
It sucks when I keep messing up digging, and have to start all over for building projects
I agree, i would go the route of adding more biomes, which they have done multiple times already
Freighters that you can enter!
Umm you can enter freighters (Or i missed something ? 🤔 )
There is "multibiome" where a single planet can have jungles and deserts and tiaga. We can agree that this is undesirable.
and then there is multibiome in - we expect planets to have polar caps. Even venus and mars and neptune - planets we might think of as single biome, have these. Tall mountains to have snow capped peaks. Mountains without snow caps just dont look very big. And if you go to the snow cap, if there isn't actually a different biome there to the jungle below, thats kinda odd.
So simple altitude and lattitude based biome banding is well within NMS's perview of making a game that renders pretty worlds.
Could you elaborate on how a lack of cities or multi biome planets are making the game boring?
Because on their own, neither would add much of substance, imo. Multiple biomes will surely still just use the same assets with the same generation systems we have now, and I don't see "cities" being anything more than the Archives but bigger
I think NMS' identity has always been cool and unique. It's very classic sci-fi: planets being single-biomed, having all these aliens around doing weird things we don't fully understand, and the vestiges of civilisation we do see being very non-obtrusive to these worlds and their native fauna and flora
But then again I've always been more into the general vibes of the game rather than gameplay implications, for the most part
Minecraft's entire game space is the single world you play in per save. NMS' entire play space is a basically infinite universe
It's more like saying that I'm saying we should limit the entire universe to one biome, because it's a bit disingenuous to compare NMS' generation to Minecraft's in this way
It's mostly because the entire thing is subjective
Subjective, yes. But still worth discussing, I think
Just making sure its framed correctly; more often than not people try to argue subjectivity in an objective way
And of course as long as it remains civil
True enough, but a lot of the best artistic decisions come from restrictions of budget/time/scope
Just because something was born from restriction doesn't mean the result ain't worth keeping around, simply because we no longer have those restrictions
Big agree on that first part! But I think they could keep the single-biome idea whilst achieving that. As GreenZombie above pointed out, you can apply it on a more macro scale, whilst still keeping a planet focused on its specific biome
I'd go one step further and say that certain areas could be more unique in having different flora or fauna, still dependant on the overall biome of the planet, but a big enough step to warrant seeing what's on the other side
And of course there's a whole host of other improvements to terrain, POI's and exploration mechanics that you could do
But idk
I agree that there's little point in jetting around a single planet. I don't agree that multibiomes are the way to solve this.
To frame it in another way: people already see little reason to stop by most worlds they pass by nowadays. If your solution to a single planet being a problem is by making other planets more pointless to go to, you haven't really solved the problem, right? You've just shifted it
At least in my opinion. And sure, you can solve this by making new procedural assets that potentially combine biomes and their themes, but then I'd argue that instead of making it "one jungle planet having ice biomes with new assets", they could just make a new planet biome and call it "icy jungle", for example
This would increase a specific star system's interest too, as there'll be more planets unique from one another overall
i think the definitively best way to go about it is keep single biomes, but diversify landscapes based on location. all the variety, just by telling the code to randomize terrain generation, zoning, and zoning sizes for different planets. mountain regions, canyons, flat plains, rolling hills, the works. some planets of course could be generated as either completely mountainy or completely flat, which i think is something that already happens in the game, since i do recall finding a lava planet that was literally nothing but mountains.
what else is there to look at? these are the only types of things that can actually break up a landscape. If I wanted to spend all my time looking at various colors of peaks and valleys I might as well stop playing video games and go be a sound engineer
also, those aliens you see dont actually do anything at all outside of the few simple interactions you have with them
they're not npc's they're just props with dialogue
additionally, it's weird to see these three civilizations that spawn across entire galaxies survive in nothing more than spaceships and minor settlements. where do the aliens live? where do ships and freighters come from? You like how non-obtrusive settlements are on the landscape but the thing is that there isnt anything to planets BUT the landscape
that's the problem
every time I see something like literally 3 massive galaxy spanning civilizations with no proof they actually exist outside outside of a dialogue that tells you it does, it reminds me of how hollow and broken the game is
Any ideas, or just shooting down others?
well, if you'd care to read, he was shooting down someone else with the classic "less is more" argument in video game that has barely passed for a video game since launch
all those things that I mentioned would break up the landscape? we should have those
thats my idea obviously thanks for your input gleam
Yw
My idea is add some more food to cook, I like cheeseburgers in my diners
@jovial cove I apologize - I'm in a mood that has nothing to do with you and jumped for no reason
I'll stop now
On the contrary, I think I'm putting forward ideas that are both a) reasonable within the stylistic aims and limited scope of the game, and b) actually trying to discuss such with people. It's a bit rude to say I'm shooting Alcubierre down just because I... quite liked the vibe of the launch game, and in many ways miss it? idk
I mean, depending on who you ask, there's a lot of reasons for this being the case. The Sentinels heavily restrict the three races and their overreach into the galaxy and its worlds, they even do this in gameplay terms with the player. Limited, yes, but it's there.
And secondly, the idea of the game was that these worlds would be mostly untouched: an exploration game where what you find is new and unseen. NPC's add some extra flavour, progression systems and also lessen the chance a player will be stranded in normal space, at least in the early game.
The planetary archives both serve as an imposing structure of alien civilisation, which I like, but also present basically all the utility any larger "city" ever could for a player. Why add cities, and lessen the "unseen worlds" aspect more, just so there's a lot of structures which only have the same old terminals and NPC's?
I only wish uncharted systems had some more interesting flavour to them, as they're perfect for the exploration vibe...
I get it though. Most people want No Man's Sky to be a game-game, with tons of little systems and stuff to do. But I have plenty of other games to play if I want that stuff: I mostly only want to explore, and perhaps do cool things along the way, rather than the other way around
Sentinels heavily restrict the three races and their overreach into the galaxy and its worlds, they even do this in gameplay terms with the player.
if there is an ever present omnipotent security force that activates when people harvest any material, how were 3 races able to expand across the galaxy in the first place
And secondly, the idea of the game was that these worlds would be mostly untouched
And in practice, abandoned and unexplored systems are the least common of any type of system, and the ones that are already colonized have the same bare bones "civilization" that I was talking about earlier where there are some basic representations of a civilization but what it present doesnt match up with what I can infer from the lore at all
OK planetary archives are cool, but it is in essense just a big library, with no population to use it or infrastructure for it to fit into
just so there's a lot of structures which only have the same old terminals and NPC's
you are already exploring the same like what, 8 different palettes for worlds and flora?
if there is an ever present omnipotent security force that activates when people harvest any material, how were 3 races able to expand across the galaxy in the first place
If we're sticking with the lore-based angle, the Sentinels came and ruined them after they had expanded for the most part
And in practice, abandoned and unexplored systems are the least common of any type of system
Well, yes, but they're still cool to have rather than not
OK planetary archives are cool, but it is in essense just a big library, with no population to use it or infrastructure for it to fit into
Every proposal I have seen for a "city" doesn't make me feel like a "city" will improve on such. I don't see them offering any new functionality. Maybe a bounty board? But they could just as easily add those to Archives or Outposts
you are already exploring the same like what, 8 different palettes for worlds and flora?
And how do you propose multi biomes or city planets fix this?
I... quite liked the vibe of the launch game
Unsure if you're trolling here m8 but whatever
For someone who claimed i was shooting people down you're awfully light on actual ideas
what, can you not see the forest for the trees?
If you were arguing against planets having water, and I said that won't do, would you say that? Would I really have to explain to you "well uh maybe planets should have oceans and rivers and lakes and ponds and streams" for you to get it?
it goes without saying
when I say that the "civilizations" are so bare bones that there isnt any logical way for them to exist, even with how the lore supposedly is, there would at least be the ruins of some kind of place where anything lived
when I say its bare bones it goes without saying that there should be more evidence of a civilization to flesh out the world
No no no, that's not how discussion works. You can't go "lmao no I don't have to explain anything" when I'm offering my view on why I think cities aren't something HG should focus on/prioritise/implement with how the game is and was intended to be, whilst also offering up ideas on how else they could improve planets within the scope of the game and how it currently functions and what it tries to be.
All you're going is "no I'm right"
where do people live? where are ships made? where are freighters from? what happened to anything that would support the expansion of three galaxy spanning civilizations? I mean, there are references to female gek and vykeen but there aren't any models and you dont meet them
really
But that's just nitpicking, I'm sorry
if they are characterized as genderless why's there so much ingame dialogue that says they arent
The vast majority of in game dialogue refers to aliens almost universally as "they"
gekwife
Either there's a very high amount of enby Gek or it might be stylistic, who knows
vykeen families have traditional human gender roles
I said vast majority, man, not all
female stays home to raise the child
if your argument boils down to "who knows" it cant be a good one huh
It was sarcastic
you're basically only defending your argument because you spent your own time to write it out, there isnt any feasible reason for you to turn down a more polished gameplay experience
You aren't offering a "more polished gameplay experience", though. You're simply declaring that the game needs big cities and female-coded Gek models or whatever else
If anything I've even tried to offer ideas on how I think the gameplay experience could be improved, through a writeup of tech and equipment changes I want to see
But yeah okay go off
I am saying it doesnt and the fact that it doesnt is symptomatic of the issue thats plagued the game since launch
the fact that it wasnt finished
The game was a pretty cool vibe at launch. A lack of stuff to do, sure, but it met the brief of "chilled exploration in a weird universe"
I know my opinions aren't popular, but I bloody love this game. So if I can at least say that players like me exist, that's good by me
in fact, its possible to have both what you and what I want, which is actual real civilization and hallmarks of civilization and empty planets to jack around in, except hello games has the problem where every system has to be the exact same bullshit copypasted 4 trillion times, except that 3 trillion of those are just junk data the player cant even access
the problems with this game are so glaring and unaddressed it really just kinda makes you wonder if no mans sky as a game was just to wring a little extra money out of that procedural generation engine they made
Well yes, you're right, and I also feel the game really should just spend some time consolidating the systems it does have and to use them better
But I guess our disagreement is more stylistic: I want as much as the original feel of the game intact, even if little of that still remains
But I also want planets to be like, more interesting, and to have more to see and do on them
I just don't see cities and planets of multiple distinct biomes fulfilling both the style the game wanted, and the gameplay it needs
you want what everyone else wants but you're just worried it will compromise the basic flow of the game
The current "flow" isn't something I necessarily like. I hate the S Class grind it encourages especially
there is 0 issue with having a civilization center in one system out of every thousand
You can blame some of the backlash of launch for the lack of "one in one thousand" systems
I distinctly remember a lot of people thinking diplos literally didn't exist because they personally never saw one
there was a lack of everything
I think there is some issue, anyway. But again, I don't know how better to explain it other than "I don't think the general style of the game, and its actual needs in terms of gameplay loops and exploration, requires a focus on cities and civilisation"
I can't articulate myself very well, I know that. But idk, it feels like you're arguing the toss with me over something for the sake of it
Not scifi every game needs to be Star Citizen or Elite or EVE. Not every space games needs a Coruscant or a Death Star or whatever else
NMS draws a lot of inspiration from cool sci fi, but ultimately I think it wanted to do its own thing, once
I wish people let it
We need waterfalls and maybe they have a 25% chance to have a cave behind them
Id like to see more worlds established or the ability to make civilization begin within system by starting a certain developments like industry or livestock or farming.
Yes like a new multi tool technology that can till dirt for seeds
And new salvaged tech screen for barns and things like that
id like to be able to put up mineral extractors and see industry grow from that as economy is affected.
id like to be able to report people in expeditions that prevents other from manipulating terrain near buried items by placing a base and not allowing terrain edits.
Taming of exotic pets. I want a cube and a rolling rock starfish land thing, damnit
I wish we could tame ANY creature - all the interesting ones are anomalous ... can't feed to tame
would be interesting if those took larval cores as food
I kinda get why they haven't added universal taming just yet
A vast majority of anomalous animals don't have one solid physical body so that's customization, riding, and petting out of the picture
Plus breeding would be a huge issue cause many of them don't have anything that could be recolored, and if they get resized their effects probably bug
And at that point what's the point in taming them at all
Like just look at the creatures on hex planets where are u gonna attach a scanner to that
Emphasis on "just yet"
There's no doubt in my mind they'll add a workaround later
But for the initial release of the taming system they probably didn't want to have to deal with all of that
U gotta remember HG is still a relatively small studio and not all of its resources are going towards NMS
on the subject of 70s SciFi aesthetic - a much larger catalog of ship parts please so we can see more variety. and more almost IP violations from a wider set of source material.
Did the dude delete his messages lmao
no mans sky will have gas giants?
It's unlikely they would add gas giants we could visit (since they're deadly and have no surface) but it would be cool to see them in the distance orbiting closer or further away from the star and out of our reach.
I'm hoping for an aesthetics update one day. Darker skies (The constant colours takes me away from the space feeling a little), retouched textures since most don't match, distant planets, sharper nebulae with distinctive patterns, biomes, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with how the game is now and I can't expect too much in such a large universe but I feel it can continue to get better with just a few touch-ups.
Ideas i had this night:
Sentinel hive/fortress & bosses
- random planets have a sentinel hide/fortress, some of them with a sentinel boss inside.
- a system can have only one fortress
- hives are like dungeons (abandoned freighters) but way more challenging.
- hives are procedurally generated and can be either visible or buried in the ground.
- hives are big and can host multiple players
- depending on the difficulty of the hive, it might be necessary for players to team up and defeat the boss
- bosses drop unique rewards
- there are many types of bosses
- increased number of types of sentinels (seriously, there are only 3 in all universe)
- once the fortress is cleared the planet is free and the player ranks up (galactic public ranking on how many systems the user has set free from hives)
- once the system is free, the user can claim some minimal percentage on the units / nanites spent in that system
i know it's pretty random and not well organized but i think these ideas are good for a number of reasons:
- it forces people to team up for more challenging situations
- it actually creates challenging situations
- it gives a player the possibility to actually have an impact on the galaxy
what you guys think?
That would be awesome
submitted to HG let's see 🙂 i want a NMS t-shirt if they implement it ahahah
Heh
maybe an additional bonus could be that all sentinel forces in the liberated system and every adjacent one within the range of ~100 LY of the liberated homeworld all have their sentinel activity disabled, or at least moved down one tier, so planets with frenzied sentinels become regular sentinels, and planets with regular sentinels lose them entirely
absolutely!
another idea is that you can occupy the hive and make it become a base or something. it might be subject to sentinel incursions at some point also 🙂
sad i rlly like gas giants
i'm just daydreaming here, but it would be cool if you could spot a rare even when on a planet, that being a crashing freighter, just seeing one plunge into the ocean or something and leave behind a salvageable freighter wreck, just hide the transition into the wreck model via sufficiently big explosion
|| considering a lot of the wrecks seem to be from different realities || it does seem fun though
I want to see a tier 5 sentinel, there is a tier 5 space sentinel but not a land sentinel
the tier 5 surface sentinel is just a smaller sentinel freighter dropship that bombards reinforcements onto planet surface
That does seem cool
I want to see atmosphere ship combat
Or the pirate outposts with planetary weapons that sometimes are mentioned
This is actually really crazy when you trick the game to do it.
The speed gets kind of "unlocked" so to speak, so your ship goes ridiculously fast when facing the enemies directly.
It would be great if they actually implemented a dedicated atmosphere ship combat system though but there's a couple things that would have to be changed.
Some things I've noticed:
a. Planets that have water will lock the ship maneuverability even further than normal when near the water, preventing rolls beyond ~60* iirc.
b. Boosting while on water planets is also limited to a minimum altitude above the water, it would be great if that was also removed (giving the normal low altitude).
I’ve had some pirate bounty missions show up well within planet atmospheres. I’m not sure if that was a bug or not, though
i wonder how viable vines between trees are?
As far as I know they don't actually SPAWN in the atmosphere, but they do tend to go down in if nearby. Pretty sure it's intended behavior.
i wonder if there'll ever be planets with more than one environmental hazard at a time
already kind of exists if you count planets with very hot days and very cold nights
red, green and blue star systems should have heat, tox and rad hazards respectively, ambiently on all planets on top of their natural hazards
how about terraforming planets? you can find a dead planet and with a spaceship you can add plants, rocks, and animals on the planet surface. You get these things by taking them from already existing planets, or by trading with other players. It'll become any planet type depending on which plants you get. And yes, you can mix and match plants from different environments like cold, verdant, or toxic as long as they are in a groups of the same type
I'd maybe be up for terraforming, but only on dead planets
I feel that strikes a balance between exploration and doing stuff
yeah, and the resources shouldn't be collectable since it would be exploited by people
Yeah
I feel like they'd have to have a natural lack of many resources or something too, so people just don't create a perfect planet from scratch
Or an element of experimentation/randomness so it could go wrong or something
now that would be interesting
at a time
obviously a planet wouldn't be too hot and too cold at the same time, and mashing up the two sets of props would make little sense, but the other combos?
hot/toxic would be awesome because toxic planets are often very rainy and hot planets are often very dry
compromise: lots of steam/mist like a swamp planet, large mushrooms containing boiling liquids and dense forests of scorched single-leaf flora
Fun fact, something can in fact be hot and cold at the same time
i guess if you covered it in capsaicin and menthol
well you have poison + whatever pretty often
do you think we're ever going to get those freighter to freighter space battles like the e3 demos?
I feel like there should be more reward for pirating. 100 chromatic metal seems hardly worth ruining reputation over but it should also be a bit more difficult as well.
you won't ruin reputation unless you accidentally shoot those smaller frigates that are cubical
also you can make a decent amount of cash selling the frigate upgrades that are dropped by sentinel interceptors
There should be a reply system, maybe something like GtaV
so you can make cinematic’s
it would be alot easier and cooler
Full mouse and keyboard support for console would be nice and the ability to type custom messages.
Neutron stars, actual black holes that pull you when you get close enough and when you go in them, you either die or go into the unknown. Maybe another dimension.
The black holes that we have rn are not black holes
theyre wormholes
Aren't blackhole an absence of everything?
that seems kind of unfair
nope they're points of infinitely strong gravity
That would be too much of a risk for permadeath players
If it does something else other than kill players it would be cool, maybe like break some ship parts
Maybe it’d kill you if you’re unprepared, but after some ship upgrade, you and your ship would be able to survive the effects of going into a black hole and take you to some special place?
Side note, I hope the game gets some more planet types in the future. Maybe more funkier lookin’ ones.
you mean like spike potato radioactive planets, or like swamp planets?
it would be cool if every biome got turned into a special version like swamp for lush and volcanic for scorched
some toxic planets could be replaced by kushimasho/flettia style rainforests
the barren variant could be vesta-prime-like, with those dead trees, brightly colored sand patches and curved objects
I like the idea of mixing planet types like this.
I was more of thing new planet types in general, like maybe gas giants or more cybernetic-lookin' worlds apart from that one anomaly planet.
Speaking of, more anomaly planets would be cool too.
Honestly, they should expand on the kinds of animals you can tame.
Flying and anomalous/exotic pets would be really cool.
It’d be interesting if there was a machine that you could build. And for a certain amount of copper, silver, or gold, and a certain amount of nanites, you could turn your companion into a statue to place in your house. Knowing how many animals there are in No Man’s Sky, I can imagine that would be very hard to make, but it’d be cool to see! I’m sure it’d drag more animal lovers to like the game 💖
gas giants were deliberately not added so that every planet would be explorable, which i think is cool
as for cybernetic looking worlds, i don't think that would really make sense outside of an anomalous planet
It doesn't need to make sense, after all these are alien worlds to us. Heck, most of the creatures you find hardly make any sense-- Maybe the people living there just mechanized the whole place or something? As for gas giants, I was mostly thinking about one of the planets Outer Wilds had. So I guess not really a big ol' gas giant, but rather a planet that's locked in constant storm, one big enough to look like a gas giant from space.
I'm surprised we dont have Gas Giants in game actually...do we?
We dont have them
We don't for the reason so that all planets you find would be explorable, though imo there are a few ways you could easily make them explorable. Just get a bit creative!
explorable on foot
by "make sense" i mean with the artstyle and vision of the game
I feel like some of the "anomalous" planets don't really live up to their name
Like, wouldn't it be cool if the surface a "cabled planet" was actually a huge mess of cables
reality glitches look wierd enough
Or a bladed planet that hurts to walk on
The glitches are cool but especially this kind of planet usually feels like a desert with a scattering of cool props to me
Honestly? I kinda agree with that.
They should have more special terrain generation or aspects to them.
And I feel like just a different set of textures for the ground or maybe even gameplay mechanics would improve them massively
Now that I have amassed a collection of the collectible glitch props I don't feel motivated to land om them
I would post some art of my ideas but no permissions yet hehe
Post them in #no-mans-art? I'd love to see them!
Can't post yet not level 5
Oh yeah.
Yea
That's-
Kinda dumb, you should be able to post art right away-
I could ask the mods maybe
Yea I think it's annoying
Not that I don't mind talking about nms
But it feels like a grind tbh
Yes, you can and should, it's to prevent anyone from just spamming from the get go
Hit one up
Another game I think about when I'm thinking about No Man's Sky stuff is Outer Wilds, and I feel like it could take a bit of inspiration from Outer Wilds with it's planets. If not for full biomes then maybe more specialized anomaly planets.
Can try now
Woo!
You know what’s be funny-
An actual glitch world. Like, one that has intentionally broken textures.
True, they’d have to make it a bit more obvious it’s intentional
But I'm sure there are ways to do it.
Oooo, a repeating planet.
I feel like that’s be cool at first but then kinda get a bit old soon after.
weather that deals damage instead of draining hazard protection
I like the idea, but I think maybe rebalancing the Normal game mode's hazards first would be a better idea than a global change.
Tornadoes/lightning/meteors actually do a ton of damage already. I think adding to it might lead to one-shot deaths in permadeath mode pretty quickly.
As it is, tornadoes are one of the few things that scare me in my survival main save. If I run out of jetpack trying to survive in one, I will very likely die.
something they could do this with is sandy desert planets, where rather than firestorms there are dust storms that tear at the shields/exosuit and deal damage over time
I’d like it if we could make it so Survival players and creative players could play together. Or at least see one another
Okay hear me out: Creatures that mimic the flora of the planet.
Imagine how terrifying it'd be to be walking along on a blighted planet at night when all of the sudden you see a fucking tree open up an eye and it's position a bit.
meteor showers, even if it's just a skybox event and no actual meteors fall down on the planet
Those are already a thing?
you have a low random chance for an ore rock to turn into a creature already, yes
haven't seen it with plants yet though
they're not easy to kill either
the rock creatures are cool, but they don't really do anything
it would be awesome if sometimes flora or rocks were actually moving predators that could stalk and attack you, rather than just getting up and walking away when trying to mine
I feel like that would be a nice addition to what the hazardous plants already do, tbh
same initial trigger, BUT THEN THEY CHASE YOU
I'm just imagining me coming across another one of those damn whip weeds-
"GAH-
Stupid plants!"
Starts to mine it but then IT SPROUTS LEGS AND RUNS AT ME
Suggestion: Multiple biomes per planet.
This gets suggested a lot and I think that a lot of players are forgetting a key gameplay loop issue with this idea: if one planet/system has all the resources/biomes, there is a major loss of incentive to explore other systems in search of those resources/biomes.
Now...a bit of compromise, make multiple biomes an extremely rare chance, so it doesn't blur the overall experience. Or perhaps it can only occur in one galaxy type (weird/dead/ancient could be a good candidate)
Simply making every planet multiple-biome is similar to throwing all the assets in a blender. If theyre all multiple biome, then none of them are particularly distinct.
Instead of mixing up the biomes, perhaps expanding on the current biomes would be an even better alternative. For example, caves on volcanic planets could have magma rivers, or dead biomes could have deep crystalline caverns.
That would probably be a lot more interesting than "this side is cold, and this side is toxic."
I hope they improve abandoned freighters in a future update. First time investigating was very spooky but pretty quickly became boring after the 5th one. Maybe something like a xenomorph-like mini boss that stalks you or surviving crew mates who've lost their minds and attack you. A bit more variety in layouts and maybe some puzzle solving.
As far as planets go, multiple biomes would be nice but it's not the answer, in my opinion.
At the moment the worlds are all of one or two generation types. You can find a planet with mountain ranges stretching to the clouds and then it suddenly becomes flat lands and stays so. Almost as though you have different continents each of which, is the same land generation throughout and not mixed.
Having valleys, mountain ranges, lakes, hills, woods all together would improve the exploring side. Rather than warping into mountain land and having nothing but mountains forever, being able to look down a hill and see a lake, huge woods with mountains in the background would make the planets feel more than just a predictable and bland white noise.
it seems like a lot of people (including me) would like different terrain in nms. terraces, raised snakes, other kinds of formations, different terrain in different parts of planets. but hello games does have to deal with the wonderful problem of people being attached to existing bases, and not wanting them to get stuck under bedrock or stranded in the air. terrain changes work better in the form of mods that people can use voluntarily. my solution: making terrain changes something you can turn on or off when making a new save. (along with adding another save file, probably.) that way it doesn't affect existing saves, but it's still there!
They added a base recovery mechanic with Next, where you can pick the planet to place the base again, I say flesh that out and reset universe seed whenever they need to
also a good idea
The universe doesn't need to reset, even Elucid still has millions of systems to even be looked at, let alone generated. If the lands were to change, having both the current and hypothetical change work together would be more suited.
There can't ever be too much different ways for a planet to generate in a game about exploring.
not sure i understand what you mean
I think, when it comes to multiple biomes per planet, this would have a big impact on plant resources more than anything. It wouldn't make sense from a gameplay perspective for a mostly hot planet to suddenly have ice plants.
On that note there doesn't seem to be any tidally locked planets. Those could be interesting: the permanently sunny side could be full of firestorms, the permanently dark side could be icey, and the narrow band of habitation would be more balanced but with fewer overall resources, to encourage venturing into the more dangerous regions
Though I can understand that would be tough to retrofit into the universe
tidally locked worlds could be very cool
I was meaning that a change to land creation wouldn't have to change existing planets with bases as previous updates did.
Tidal locked planets sounds interesting but I don't see that happening anytime soon since it's the sun that moves, not the planets rotating.
This is the easiest path forward to creating new terrain, planet biomes, etc. Its worked in the past, it just needs to be highlighted as a positive thing for players. When Origins dropped, despite HG's efforts to conserve planets that had bases on them, some players wound up with a new biome entirely (ie the case of New Lennon).
Being able to pick up a great build and move it to a new location is something already done by the modding/blender community, so might as well give the console players that capability as well.
wouldn't be that different from the current extreme temperature worlds, except for not having a day/night cycle
“The future”?
Speculation, hopes, suggestions for the community to see
On the topic of companions...id surely love to see us hack our way into a sentinel drone or two. Maybe some special interaction or pre requisite needs be met in order to successfully hack them. Honestly the more things we can take on as companions and the more functionality they have the better.
Also why does my stream lined Jetpack with a rainbow trail not illuminate as such instead it’s just a solid purple color light with the trail following upon activation. The two other jet packs have this nice rainbow light effect. Probably a bug.
Also on the topic of companions...
Cough companion battles like pokemon cough
Jkjk-
But actually, you know, more ways of interacting with them like Pokemon would be cool. I mean this in the sens of how recent Pokemon games let you actually pet or play with your companions, or even give them special food once in a while for being a good friend.
Haha one day id actually enjoy a system like that if implemented somewhat correctly...it’s funny i have a wild thought of owning a farm in nms and having multiple cow like creatures in a pasture how that would work idk maybe something other than taming possible domestication via gathered resources and walled off areas 🤷🏻♂️
That'd honestly be cool to come across.
To add to this, it might help give more purpose to breeding and eggs if we could sorta offload them into a domesticated pen of sorts that we can designate almost like something out of Rimworld. Even going as far as to give us our companion slots back in the meantime as we organize just who our exploration company will be and who will stay at the base, perhaps these domestic animals can help fertilize soil or even collect grown plants while i am out and about maybe even breed and create all new life forms. Pretty sure most people just save a few eggs and hoard them just in case they want a specific creature back..this would both simplify that process and add something pretty neat to the base building side of things.
only applying the changes to planets without bases would be impossible
Allow us to make animal farms, like for milks and eggs. This would also maybe include new animal products. This an include Fences, incubators, and barns. Perhaps even a specialized tech tree could be used
I have a simple one, nerf the amount of ammo given on derelicts
Maybe growing wheat and other stuff on our own?
Let us change genetics to food
Or our pets
Gene sequencing and engineering would be cool
Things like faster growing or slower growing plants that gives more or less per harvest respectively
Suggestion: Nomadic bases. Adds things like wheels, tracks, steering, and other parts to attach to your base so that it becomes a giant customizable vehicle, similar to the cities of Mortal Engines.
Suggestion: Icy oceans biome. Basically a giant frozen ocean with unique flora and fauna living in it, there would be sheets of ice floating along the surface along with much larger iceburgs that could be built upon to create a moving, floating base.
I want so see rogue planets, that aren't trapped in the gravity of a star, and like mentioned earlier, tidally locked and some planets with biomes, like desert planets have some Savannah and some sand seas
The game mentions asteroid mining colonies and planetary weapons and planetary pirate outposts, it would be nice to actually be able to find them
I'd like to see different cave biomes, as it feels strange to have every cave on every planet have the same set of elements.
Rogue planets would be nice
Planets with different gravity, actual interstellar travel without going to the galaxy map. Galaxy map would still be there for those that wanna go faster
Time dilation would be a cool addition
By "time dilation" do you mean the distance from the star and your location on the planet changes the day night cycle duration
Also the distance between stars would probably take years to traverse if we are talking about realism
@timid summit
yeah i mean like different day and night times
To the games credit if it is night on one side of the planet and you go to the other side it is day time
and also thats why pulse engine goes like 20 or 50% the speed of light
If they add that then rogue planets could probably be found in between solar systems
I mean they would be ecological dead zones, but they would exist
Way deeper oceans with more aquatic life generations would also be nice
No man's subnautica
They could probably make a generation that is a reference to a reaper
hey i was wondering, are there any leaks or whatever on when is the new update or what it might contain?
Steam internal updated a few days ago
so there is a new version, most likely containing the next season and some bug fixes
Could be pushed out next week probably @carmine stream
I wonder if a new update is coming out tomorrow?
because of the next season to come out
Playing this game recently, something I'd appreciate is a "Smoothen" option for the multi-tool's terrain editor mode.
It'd be nice to create good-looking, smooth hills.
Another small thing— Does anyone else feel like the ladders in this game are really annoying to use?
the auto sucking is annoying
just don't always suck the character into ladder whenever I get near it
Well short range teleporters are my go to navigation method in bases
The fact that you can’t look up or down also bothers me.
I gotta unlock those then cause ladders don’t go well with this base I’m making
in 3rd person you can freely move the camera in ladder
but when swimming at surface of water the camera is locked in 3rd person so you can't look up
"Alongside the new Expedition, Nada and Polo’s regular research effort aboard the Space Anomaly has shifted into a new gear. Priest Entity Nada has detected something thought impossible: a fluctuation in history already written. A new pattern is emerging in the stories of the ancient Gek, Korvax, and Vy’keen. Something is stirring from across the universe. Can you hear it?"
Definitely suggests new lore based questlines for update 16.. hopefully get some additional gameplay features as well. Can't wait!
I wish that we could replay ended expeditions
That would be pretty neat. Allow for more speedruns even
And happy players who missed a golden vector (like me cuz of glitch)
The players demand justice. You give us a game with hundreds and hundreds of fauna, and yet…
You give us only six companion slots?
I'm good with six honestly, the randomly-generated fauna doesn't seem varied enough for me to demand more than that.
The price for them though why.
It's almost as confusing as why freighter colors are 5,000 nanites each.
Six companion slots is meh, but the amount of save slots its much worse with each Expedition taking up one in addition to the different modes.
i deleted my pioneers save
are you not supposed to delete them ?
You can do whatever you want with them
I deleted mine since I don't need a separate normal mode save. I already got the main one
I deleted my pioneer save too lol
theres so much backstory and just it affects nothing
am i th onlyone who wants to see like the gek homeworld and other fully taken over planets
imagine how awesome thatd be
or just some other evidence in game of all the loretheres so much backstory and just it affects nothing
That would be awesome
I wish there were an item you could purchase from the Quicksilver shop called a “water backpack” that displayed one water creature that we tamed. It can only hold one. Just give me one water companion 🙏
There’s a zoom in button when flying your ship, but I prefer it being a “look back” button.
Since we can’t look back
bruh
I'd like PSVR users like myself to be able to have free move (rotate/zoom) controls in the system map.
i'd like an exocraft that can hover high enough to not bump into things on the ground. accidentally destroying knowledge stones etc. is too easy
Try the nomad
maybe i'm doing it wrong but it still clears everything in its path
This. SteamVR does actually allow map rotation. But you can't scroll the map more than a few LY per second, making long distance travel (like to the core) impossible.
For all intents and purposes, the VR galaxy map is unfit for purpose unless i am missing something big
I hope they add fishing,
Take a multi-tool, shoot a fish. Fishing!
(better still, use a grenade >:3)
hmm this is implemented in a game called Conqueror's Blade and is working pretty good for them... hmm implementing something similiar on No Man's Sky could be doable as well 😮
eeeh or repeat rewards or maybe give the chance to get them with quicksilver after some time.....
i dunno
but yeah replaying expeditions would be an interesting approach as well
Even if I had to pay 10000 quicksilver to get a g vector I would
Hear me out: combat gear - a technology for the exosuit that allows for sliding, strafing side to side, and increased movement speed but reduces the jetpack. This would improve quality of PvP for those weird obsessed people while allowing it to be optional.
More enemies. Sentinels and pirates are getting boring
this would look really cool if the clouds didn’t have the perfectly straight clippling line when intersecting with mountains
and if not so desaturated 😔
lol it was a bit but there are plenty of over saturated ones
Half awake, but I wonder if it’s possible to have NPCs to move around the space you make in a freighter. Or even have a function to limit where they can go to if you decide to expand or build upon your freighter layout again.
Because you only ever see your frigates’ captains through a hologram. Could add small animations of them interacting with things you got. Could make your frigate more lively with them roaming around- even if they’re not doing much. Heck I wouldn’t mind seeing them on the frigates themselves. Since we have to go them to repair something once in a while.
Back to sleep
I hope lol
Idk quite a few people said this update is going to be MASSIVE
because its there 5th anniversary
Speculation based on the number of the next named update and the anniversary
Hope it's true
I hope so true
I would assume it is probably going to be the next next
What would you like to see
Oh so much
New ship designs
Fauna, flora - pretty much everything we have now added on to
I would like Cities, Maybe Custom Ships???, Gas Giants (possibly), And More Fauna and Flora on planets(Just like a huge amount aka jungle)(My top wish is the fauna flora)
Sounds cool to me
I getcha
Top of my wishlist is dynamic mesh deformation, so a tree model could be distorted to look different and add even more variety
So, you could get shorter, taller, fatter, thinner and twisty trees and stuff
1 model gets turned into hundreds of variations that way
part of the reason they looked so good was the color palette and fog
Agreed but like the creatures and the density of the planet
Super industrial planets would also be neat
I majorly dislike Star Citizen because it is kinda like a failed game but they do have some neat things
But this
would be so cool in NMS
or even better
Like Promethea from BL3
Idk I feel like they would be hard to make interesting
Ruined cities could maybe work
Or towns
But if they could actually pull cities off that would be amazing
as long as they are more like derelict freighters procedural and gameplay wise and less like crashed freighters and boring, static buildings with little variation, i’m cool with them
sure, crashed freighter look cool and have different shapes, but we know where everything is, where to dig and what to expect
cities need to to have varied levels of quality. Old and falling apart filled with sketchy npcs and flickering old signs to flashy, grand, new cities. Hopefully they also vary in size and we can get small towns almost western-like to possibly planet-wide ones. maybe even variation on their verticality. Aside from that, they gotta offer new ways to play and make offer new activities
and they should fix the way clouds clip with tall objects
otherwise, i do not care about cities. there’s still much that could be done with terrain, flora, fauna and planetary exploration such as the flora deformation papa mentioned
agreed flora and fauna go first
If we can get another origin update that would be fantastic lol
yeah. whether it’s the focus or secondary to cities like people are speculating, that’s what id prefer
What some people said about automation, I don't really like that sort of stuff, but I think it's something good to make nms move even further
I'd really love to see caves get an overhaul as well as more Fauna unique to them.
Some horror type creatures similar to Abyss, glowing giant cave worms, batlike creatures or downright bizarre stuff would be amazing
i’m surprised the new ‘infected’ biomes don’t have bio horrors wandering around
only way is to interact with a whispering egg
even then, they’re repetitive. all the same size, shape and color (with the ones on derelicts being the exception)
Some of the things on planets need to be overhauled because they are super lack luster
Here is a list I made*
everything will feel held back if they continue to leave planets with bases on them alone
they need to allow us to move our bases anywhere
so they can have complete freedom to regenerate planets
- Caves: Biomes Size Creatures Area (Deep Rock Galactic Style) 2. More Trees! Denser Flora and Fauna Planets still feel to barren 3. Water Features: Rivers Lakes Leviathans (Subnautica Style) 4.Cities Abandoned/Populated
like that
as far as ‘more trees’ goes, i agree, but i think other things can be done to make planets actually feel forested
like vines, moss, more canopied trees that create more shade, etc
one things for sure. the way trees generate never generate large enough areas to even feel like a forest
Populated cities doesn't seem so physible
That is my main complaint is
the planets just feel barren a lot
tall trees + more variety in tree sizes and types would make forests much more interesting
if there were very large trees that formed something similar to a canopy, and then higher density smaller trees/shrubs/undergrowth flora, forests could be very large and very nice to look at, especially with some bioluminescence
cries in low-end pc
Like wouldnt it be so cool if we could get like endor style planets!!
Also deep gigantic oceans would be super neat and caves
Giant Leviathans etc
cave biomes etc
many things to be done 🙌
honestly though, caves and deep oceans is what i’m personally banking on for Awwgust
Oooooh
I dont think that more trees and planets would be hard to do maybe it would screw with gen idk
@visual cloak how large do you think the august update is gonna be?
Origins sized
sure, being the 16th update, you’d think they’d go bigger, but i don’t think they can push any more content if restrained to just a year
Quiet a bit of people I have talked to about it said possible the Next NEXT
could be an accumulation of held back stuff
It could be
next was crummy imo
wouldn’t mind if they pushed it further into next year
eh I would like a small update then but I can wait tbh
I feel like if it did come out it would be in august for there 5th anniversary
i’m sure you’re right
yeah, there are some worldgen mods that make some big trees and funky forests
but there are some things that can't be done through modding
Yeah mods can only do so much before the game actually needs changes
yeah
too many objects are likely being avoided because of Xbox One and PS4 having enough memory issues with the game objects as it is without having too many
At the end of the day, with the game being crossplay, it means that PC players have to come down to console ability levels
😔
well not necessarily they can create 2 different graphics groups for 2 consoles
it might look different but PS5/Xbox X/S and PC will look the samre
same*
The ability to build a mobile structure like a boathouse.. =)
ooh that would be cool
Something that would be interesting to see is if the discoverer of an abandoned system could repair the space station there, or the discoverer of an uncharted system could build one
it could open up some interesting opportunities for space bases, especially if you bring/build a space station in an uncharted system and can choose how it looks or even build a base in it
Glassing cannons on freighters
It would be cool to see enemy land patrols and base defense at some point in the future. Imagine just going about your business, collecting resources etc., and a swarm of pirates land trying to hunt you down. They chase you back to your base but you have defense systems (turrets, traps etc.) to thwart their efforts.
I wonder why we never see crashed dreadnoughts or resurgent class freighters
But they’d probably be too big anyway
Even the smaller space freighters are bigger than any crash site, they're all downscaled, like only babby freighters crash land or something!
So I don't see why they couldn't add a few new procedural parts (or even a total overhaul of them so crashsites vary a lot more, HG pls)
Or (although less likely) after this expedition
maybe
sea foam
sea foam definitely needs some improvements, as does water in general
are we going to change this to nms-the-beach-episode or something?
hm ok
i still suspect the next update will be after beachhead ends seeing as it's setting up lore stuff
Or atleast more mysteriously
I hope so
But it seems a bit early
most likely August 7th which is the Release date of NMS 5th anniversary
its likely a small patch type update
they wouldn't be so open about a feature if it were part of something bigger
badass
It looks like the next update is going to be a ship/freighter update
Could be, but most of what he posts on Twitter are player taken screenshots that he likes
How you know that
Nope, that’s the engine core of a frigate
It’s a screenshot from the subreddit
ah
also, reminder: beachhead is a military term
For war right?
yes
Dun dun duuuunnnn
Think D-day in Normandy
That was a beachhead
So idk where they could be going with this
Hmm interesting
For war...
The sentinels might become a bit crazier?
And send some tiny dreadnoughts to ruin everyones day?
Are their still remaining first spawn loyalists looking to take over the universe again?!
Ok I’m overthinking it
there could be wars
Actual fleet space battles and improved combat + more upgrades plz
Maybe we'll see a lot more, challenging PVE with new enemy types
an overhaul to sentinels would be nice
especially if they made procedural sentinel types + more different kinds of behaviour, like the walker patrols from the prerelease trailers
Or just better combat and more immersive battles
Yes, but not an official one.
we need walker patrols on high sentinel planets
and they should flesh out corrupt sentinels
make them appear in other scenarios
I agree
actually applies to a lot of things
It might be too ingrained into the game by now, but I'd like certain kinds of weather / hazards that I can't just avoid by digging a hole or calling my ship
I actually didn’t know those existed until I decided I decided to check out whatever salvageable scrap was on abandoned planets.
And you know, I wonder if big dungeon-like structures would be possible.
There needs to some sort of feature where we can tell which egg is which before hatching
They are possible. Derelicts exist and they did experiment with planetary dungeons as well at the time. There were files for them
Oh god we can hope
would be cool if, when they do introduce planetary dungeons, that they don’t always take place in rooms. like if there’s one underground, then it’d be neat if they sometimes opened up to large cave zones
I think a good mix of large caverns and labyrinthian maze-like corridors would be great for dungeons
As this is our fifth anniversary year, we have some other surprises up our sleeves, with more information coming very soon.
-sean
YOOOOOOO
could it be the next NEXT?
next next
the next Atlas Rises sounds more appealing
The next Atlas rises makes more sense tbh
Probably its gonna be Atlas rises
but I hope for more Treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
🌳🌲 🌳🌲 🌳🌲 🌳🌲
NMS Next 2: The Next Tetris
besides a bunch of new nms content it also adds a full port of The Next Tetris as a base building part
||NOICE||
What about ships that you can fly and walk around in
Like the millennium falcon for example
Please don't turn NMS into a brandfest.
Let's not turn NMS into "Space Fortnite"
The term "Beachhead" is cryptic, it can mean many things. I just don't want Brandfest to be one of them.
"Beachhead" i think specifically referred to the Normandy, because of the famous Normandy beachhead landings on D-Day
Wait, who are the Nazis?
If its that much of a reference, I wonder if the Atlas has lied to us.
The First Spawn are coming back?
I was being sarcastic. They're no evidence to suggest this is the case. Though ||if history really is changing, as implied by the histographic research in expedition 2. The conditions under which the first spawn were defeated are tenuous. Basically a single event - the Korvax revolution. A change there would be enough to bring them back||
Usually people do /s for sarcasm.
I thought crazy Sean face would get the message across 😉
Not with everyone.
I do feel like the first spawn are a missed opportunity.
I still find factions too monolithic at times, do you have any idea how big this galaxy is?
If I use a black hole to jump from one end of the galaxy to the complete opposite, you will find all factions to be virtually the same.
I agree. I'd like/have liked it, to be that different races held discreet geographic 'regions', maybe even have border conflicts so regions change hands and you get sector war events with freighter battles.
Feels like a missed opportunity to give the universe some life.
Could be added in the future that might be one of the best things I heard
I really wanna see more flora and fauna not like more variety like denser forests etc
this is what i'm saying. there's 4 races.. across 255 GALAXIES, 18 QUINTILLION stars
there's no actual conflict, they all get along, there's systems they "control" with 1 or 2 buildings
Where's the presence?
Indeed.
more of a "civilization" would be nice.. you find on a planet one random artifact talking about their past, like they just dumped it there
where's their homeworld? where's their colonies?
where are the large fleets if they all left their home?
where's the CONFLICT the vy'keen act like they are so good at? PROUD WARRIORS who do nothing but goad you into punching them
And if it's so peaceful? Why are there no large outposts? Why no space stations that are more than a general store?
where are these freighters and frigates being MADE?
the knowledge stones are weird, too.. it looks like someone just loaded them into a shotgun and fired them across the universe. just little cylinders that pepper the galaxy. why are there no.. libraries? No repositories of knowledge and lore? Just.. a cylinder that teachers you one word?
we humans put much much more information than that on a SINGLE sattelite..
and sent it into the galaxy in hopes someone will find it and come say hi
the only "conflict" i find in the universe is the sentinel drones.. which protect resources? like "no you're not allowed to mine THIS gold. "
why not?
Solution: Add some characteristics to regions, which means regions won't be the same.
i end up with robo dogs, and star wars walkers chasing me because i PICKED UP A ROCK
If i was picking up some SECRET TECHNOLOGY or knowledge someone didn't want known
sure, come get me.
but.. just.. digging up elements?
Just tell me when your rant is over.
Gravatino balls? they're literally just a crafting item. the name is misleading and you get attacked for what is literally just an item to make stuff. I'm not using these things to make a gun that shoots black holes.. i'm using them to build my engines
Good. Lets talk solutions.
nod
I was thinking, how about a culture axis for regions? Basically regions have their own local cultures that add a little bit of spice to the race.
more than just "I vykeen, we proud warrior, grah grah grah"
Exactly.
thats some good ideas
as i said before. conflict? in literally every single space station you find several groups of vy'keen, gek, and korvax.. just.. talking.
Yeah, conflict
they're cohabitating, chill, just talking. nobody looks angry, nobody looks like he's talking to his enemy.
Meh
For culture, you don't want regions with the same culture to conflict.
Just fuck the patterns up
There you go
Conflict
The lore is very flexible
They can literally make every planet the exact same and say "it's just the atlas dying"
or make a system LITERALLY only one race, LITERALLY controlled
and planets with buildings that SHOW "we own this area of space"
You consider sentinels a race?
not really, no.
i consider them annoying things that bother you when you're just gathering materials
THIS PARTICULAR ROCK is banned from touching, YOU ARE NOW A WANTED MAN... for five minutes until you escape and they forget you
their freighter is a joke
shoot off the turrets, sit there and pick off their ships that come at you.
Sentinels need an upgrade. But I disagree, we need sentinels as an antagonist.
There is.
They are preservers of the universe.
You are more easily replaceable than the materials on the planet.
attacking me for picking up a ball so i can make my warp engine? what are they preserving?
The universe/multiverse.
if they were any sort of rare i could buy that
Gravitino is rare.
Nah.
every third planet i land on is covered in gravatino balls
and i have no mods that make more stuff spawn
If the sentinels didn't protect it, you wouldn't be able to find them at all.
just walking around, not paying attention, glow and sound "oh look, MORE gravatino.."
Something I would love to see - Heavily colonised worlds with massive cities on them
Also, bigger space station interiors with corridors, multiple rooms. Maybe glass covered area's where you can see into space.
The old space stations had windows, i dunno why the new ones dont
I actually had a good idea that stemmed from Athena sending a alien freighter image or something like that.
Personally the sentinels are in a good neutral place right now.
We have the corrupt ones that could be upgraded.
Hive mind overlords and such. for a antagonist.
It’d be better to have a All infesting horror for it.
I’ll just post my last zendesk in here.
Recently, I played subnautica. Needless to say it was incredibly enjoyable.
Now while playing it and switching between it and NMS, I felt like No Man Sky’s oceans still really lack that danger, that sense or fear and curiosity. I know that you may also be concerned that adding combat of any kind or dangerous creatures could disrupt fun.
So I suggest a subnautica-esk update, a ocean with massive creatures, abyssal depths, and a series of upgrades for emergency warping out of dangerous moments on foot or in a vehicle.
Trying to find my list of things for this request but in a nutshell other upgrades could be available for the mech too. It’s incredibly similar to subnauticas prawn suit and having individual arm upgrades and a tech slot for the mech and Nautilus would be incredible. Like multi-tool sword attachment, grabbing attachment, etc.
In the abyssal depths a underwater abandoned city or civilization would also be cool. We have volcanoes so I think it’d be possible to have underwater ones? Maybe the color changes as you get deeper like how some planets already have tints.
Another upgrade suggestion is a emergency nautilus unit. That could go one of two ways: the first is being able to attach it to sea creatures for aquariums and mounts/companions. The second is to make it the emergency warp unit for underwater to escape dangerous environments.
Lastly combat still kinda lacks? But the sentinel upgrade to match multi tool was amazing, I actually died for the first time in a long time to sentinels! It was quite fun! Anyway for other combat scenarios a setting in the menu to turn specific creature damage on and off could also be neat. Then that allows for a couple of dangers like the sand worm just like the emergency escape. Anyway more horror like enemies would be nice, maybe a rpg element like a dungeon(or the Atlantis city in the abyssal depths) .
The derelicts are a great start, but mildly clunky and much like NMS’ oceans and sometimes caves is a see it once or twice and you’ve seen it all kind of scenario. So continuing from this freighters are also kind of lacking mostly in the decoration department and pirate encounters. Like having second floors, space colonies? , etc. So having a infested sentient horror freighter with a nucleus you have to aim to reach would be a fun challenge. In the end of it would be blueprints for stuff like the freighter itself, new decorations like windows inner balconies, second floors. And technology for a horror pirate encounter maybe?
So a infested freighter maybe more genetically enhanced pets etc. could go any which way with that.
So all in all, I really think we need a update like this. Whether it’s a collaboration with the developers of Subnautica, or a entirely new thing. It’d be so nice to have oceans that reach 1000u, alien planets that force you to crashland into almost all ocean for building a escape platform off it. Crazy horror creatures or undersea pets and leviathans. Since we have weather above ground, crazy underwater biomes would make it insane to explore. Alien derelicts that unlock crazy stories or artifacts. The crazy infested frigate or freighter to send shivers down your spine!
I’ll continue to enjoy NMS until then! Time to try out this new expedition!
Just to add to the under water stuff, one thing that I would love to see NMS implementing on their own way, the Gas Giants.
Under extreme pressure, gas basically condense into its liquid form, right?
It would be fun to enter a planet that's essentially only clouds and gigantic scary tempests all over, and as you go deeper into it, it is basically only liquid, which could have the kind of content the oceans already have, or something
That would be pretty cool
you sir just put everything I want in a list
well I also want thicker more populated planets
I feel like the planets are barren and kinda lonely
Small thing but I wish clouds worked a bit differenlty on Planets.
Instead of only changing when the weather calls for it, it would be nice to see days were the sky's covered by clouds but there's no actual storm, or times when the sky it completely clear.
Adding onto this, it’s be nice is weather wasn’t just a... Yes-No kinda thing. I mean like, in my experience, you planets only really have one weather type, sometimes with an extreme weather event that occasionally happens.
This planet will have sunny days only. This other one will always have rainy weather that’ll transition into an extreme storm-
It’d be better if planets could have more varying weather. Some days it rains, most of the time it’s sunny, freezing planets having beautiful light snow-
kind of! it's actually really, really weird
what happens in a gas giant is that, as you get deeper, the gas slowly becomes thicker until it smoothly transitions into becoming a liquid, and then, if the giant is big enough, the pressure will continue until eventually, that liquid slowly becomes more and more viscous until it becomes entirely solid.
this would actually be really interesting to seen in-game, you'd get a normal atmosphere (you'd probably want to add some islands or floating islands here so people have a place to land), followed by an ocean that gets harder to travel through the deeper you go, and then at the bottom it turns into a substance with a similar consistency to mud, which gets thicker and harder as you mine down into it, until you reach a rocky center that could potentially have rare or extremely valuable stuff in it as a reward for traversing all the way there
minor complaint but i wish they had some more types of hazardous flora
gets a bit old to see the same old few ones with new names always
Yeah.
Are planets only spherical due to game engine limitations? Would be cool to have assymetric celestial bodies you can land on.
Or how about a halo world, but at home. So like, a diamond instead of a circle or something.
Eeeehhh
It'd be cool but
Weird too.
I do like the idea of having different planet shapes though, makes me think of Mario Galaxy. Maybe some planets could be hallowed shells, or be a cluster of smaller planets you could jetpack to?
Regarding hollow planets, I feel if they could increase maximum planet height/depth, they could get away with amazing cave gen. If I'm mining deep underground like in Deep Rock Galactic that would be cool
to be fair non-spherical planets can exist irl, they're just really rare
imagine if we could land on huge asteroids and build bases there too
