Wdym, it's just like Ryanair
idk if this would be annoying or cool but when a storm forms you wouldn't be able to call you're ship
it'd make storms feel more dangerous and a threat like in real life
One of the things the new water is missing is sun rays. Basically rays of light that cast through water they’d be seen under water
Make it a setting
You can toggle it on or off
or put it in the hard difficulty
sub surface scattering would hit SO hard, i want it
Also, Day 1 of asking devs for proper Aim Down Sight when using Combat Scope Tech
That’s not what that is sub surface scattering refers to things like skin or car paint and how the light is absorbed by it; how it disperses it across its surface
Also the technicals of sub surface scattering wouldn’t be possible so this would be a falsified solution
What this effect I’m referring to is most similar to is god rays
Which is not sub surface scattering
oh woops, sorry misinterpreted that. I thought you were referring to seeing the light hitting the surface of the liquid under the body of water. don't read things at a glance kids
also, bibically accurate sss would kill anyone's GPU, but there are some rendering techniques involving normals and texture material to mimic the effect
but also, this is assuming this isn't already a thing outside bodies of water. I haven't checked so take my suggestion with a grain of salt 😛
i think it be hilarious if HG fed into the joke about the secret atlas boss by adding a low chance of finding a "Glipglap Processor" on a sentinel ship, so people actually start flipping out thinking its real. But the processor actually does literally nothing.
I feel like the brood mother bosses should have their own unique model rather than the procedurally generated new bug models, because they are similar to the titan worms and horrors essentially, but they don't look unnatural or invasive
they might just be placeholders for now I'm hoping
Add spiral staircase
and a ladder you can put on the walls
maybe WP2
You could get an effect close to what they are saying by using an overlay when underwater that has said rays of light as though they are underwater, simply apply a distance matrix to it and it should look like rays are being casted in the water. and you can edit properties of it like amount of rays and brightness of light etc based on the surrounding water.
I’ve coded games a little using OpenGL so I know a little abt this but I am by no means an expert so take said idea with a grain of salt
I mean when you’re under water like this image
How the light casts rays down
That’s something that when swimming underwater you don’t really see (I mean you don’t really see it when you’re out of water with the sky either but it gets away with that much easier than water does) in game
We already have version of water caustics as it is so I’d like to see that added with water and maybe some additional bubbles too
A flight mode for the nomad. Exploring floating islands doesn't work with starships. Exocraft need to be vastly more powerful to be an effective exploration tool.
Are there games that currently implement that? It would definitely add to the feel, but I wonder what performance impact it would have
Saw a video of another indie developer who achieved this effect without raytracing and it looks darn impressive
One QoL I'd love if they changed. Just because I walk within 3 feet of a ladder doesn't mean that I want to climb said ladder. Please turn off the auto ladder.
Escalators and ski lifts only thank you very much
You can fake it too! I'm pretty sure Aquanaut's Holiday 2, a game which people besides me totally played making this a useful frame of reference, did that on the PS1!
Day 2 of asking the devs to add proper ADS when using the combat scope tech.
Also my framerate tanks on Dissonant Planets, maybe optimize the graphical fidelity for those too plz tyvm
I have a vague, vague memory of that game, not enough to remember god rays. I'll take your word for it though!
For stuff like this, it's best to send a request to their zendesk. Though some HG employees may lurk on the discord, this is not an official feedback area
!hg
You can submit bug reports, suggestions or feedback to Hello Games here: https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Oh! Tyvm! I'll definitely do that
but also will do daily ads request msgs in this channel for the memez
I'm curious why the devs chose more cash crop like items for farming rather then all the staple food stuff you find in the wild. Was kinda hoping to make a bread factory.
I made a lazy concept edit for a space focused variety update. Inspired by Worlds Part 1.
Already sent to HG through Zendesk too. 😄
You're hired
It would really not be any different from regular god rays so it’s dependent on that
Needs to have a dagobah type swamp planet
We have those, but maybe more mist is needed for some
Never seen one
Ah they are pretty rare
Coordinates?
You mean expeditions with no timer? No idea.
Since the new update I've seen some with incredibly low visibility
ya that'd be nice to catch up if you missed old onrs
Idea. Upgradeable Cargo slots. To double storage cappacity. Still max would be 9999 but it would be helpfull for other items like metal plates , modules etc.
Helldivers style stratagems that launch from your freighter, but with a balance that provides support for exploration and resource gathering as much as combat.
Bubble shields that protect from storms, equipment powerups, enhanced scanning, temporary rapid mineral extraction, frigate air support etc
We need a better frigate interface. Give me a room that lists allthe avalable ones in system and lets me just buy themnone of this 2 layers of interfae while slowly flying past each tryingto rember whicjones Ive already seen
It'd be cool if they brought back color variation on dead planets :S
I just want the race of a frigate on its info screen. I like having a variety of races in my fleet, but some captain names make it hard to tell which race a frigate is.
instead of every planet being multibiome add a new planet type called multibiome
i feel like that would make them much more special
There already is some muli-biome in game they just need to use it more
surface (standard biome) High alitude (veg stops more minerals, grass changes) Caves (own minerals, animals, plants) Water (own minerals, animals, plants) Deep Water (adds some things to water)
Bring back the MT flamethrower, but as a special weapon for a post game MT type to balance it.
It was a lot more noticeable pre-NEXT but you also used to get different ground materials on lush planets acting like different biomes -- so you'd get expanses of rocky deserts or sand areas on otherwised tree'd worlds.
This is so good. I love the megastructure ideas especially.
The nomad is awesome and I love it, but I think this would work better as a new exocraft
Maybe it could be some sort of dragonfly ornithopter? That'd be cool
Also I think the colossus might work better as some sort of walker, where it could step at a long range automatically to get over holes and quickly climb cliffs and mountains. That'd make it a lot more unique then all the other wheeled vehicles
Maybe some sort of millipede/spider type thing
Why can't we have more Multi-Tools and Ships in our inventory-
6 tools and 12 ships not enough?
With all the exclusive Expedition ships, sometimes 12 ships doesn't feel like enough tbh
I've had to scrap some of my favorite Multi-Tools because I found a meta tool (like the cube supercharged sentinel rifle that's easily found in the Liquidators Expedition)
^
Don't get me started on the amount of ships I've had to scrap because of that.
ξ-Flameborn I'll miss you...
Especially with the Multi-Tools.
Seriously, 6?
I've had to throw away some of my favs because of the most recent Twitch Drops. Because I like keeping exclusive stuff as trophies.
Half my slots are unique ships. Why do people still ask this? 12 would be fine if they didn't keep adding expedition uniques.
Yeah 6 multitools is a bit tight. You can't even have one of every class I don't think. The two types at Autophage camps, Royal, Experimental, Alien, Pistol, Rifle, Staff, Atlantid... uh I'm probably missing something
Because of those like me (and quite a lot) that enjoys collecting ships (especially exclusives or rare ones) like Pokemon cards.
The thrill of finding a rare ship for the collection is amazing...
Until you have to fuck over another ship.
I'd love to have an Atlantid, Sentinel and a second staff to more aesthetically match my current avatar. But I'm already at six and don't want to scrap the ones I have. My last free slot went to the Atlas Scepter.
I get why some people are content with the limitations.
But like come on, you can't even fill your Freighters Hanger with your ships (because you just, can't place them where you want for some goddamn reason).
See what I mean by 6 being so limiting?
I don't think some players take roleplay into account. Functionally, no, you don't need more than six. Roleplay wise, definitely we do.
Options to put a multitool or ship on display in a base to take it off your freighter could work
Like, you could hold x amount in your freighter but have as many as you wanted parked elsewhere, you can just take a few with you at once
And I don't get the 6 MT limit. MT doesn't have storage, so.
the numbers seem arbitrary, just make it 50 for each or something
And while we're at, we don't have six appearance slots... why exactly?
Back in the day we could only have 1 ship and 1 multitool. And there was an intentionality of that which was nice. People developed bonds with their ship and MT because they tended to stick with them. They had to make hard choices and really choose their favorites. But when they opened the doors to multiple, then why even have limits? Just let people collect as they'd like to.
They're going to have to accept most of their player base are hoarders eventually. 😛
I mean not even just roleplayers, it doesn't matter if it's for roleplayers or not.
Some of us just want to be proud of our collection of cool (or powerful) tools without having to sacrifice pieces of said collection. Especially with Ships and the many classes of Multi-Tool.
Functionally it does almost nothing, yes. Realistically a lot of stuff people want wouldn't be that important or be as useless.
I mean even with having multiple of these things having favorites like that still happens.
*I literally cried when my collector side got the better of me.
ξ-Flameborn...*
Oh for sure. I have a few ships now which hold some nostalgia. It's just that when you could only pick one, it was a really deliberate choice. And a painful one when switching. I still remember leaving my starter ship on an outpost landing pad after I bought a new one. Felt like I had abandoned it
For me the change to have more than one is a near net positive.
It helps those like me (or others that just like more than one ship) be more comfortable with our choices. And realistically you could still treat the game like you only have one MT and Ship, by scrapping them when you get a new one.
Oh I'm not advocating for 1 ship or 1 MT, I'm for limitless collections. Let the people do what they want. I'm just saying, I appreciated the game design choice in limiting to 1 back in the day. It was a different vibe. But this inbetween state we're now in, where they slowly, greedily bump up the limits slightly once in a while doesn't serve the players well.
That's why I sent a suggestion saying the ability to buy more Multi-Tool inventory slots (meaning more than 6, also includes ships) with Nanites.
Or being able to put spare ones on a Weapon Rack in a base, or ships on Landing Pads (to be swapped whenever needed, kinda like how the Orbital Exocraft thing works)
Like that'd be so fucking cool!
Imagine decking out a room with badass Sentinel and Alien weapons of YOUR choice. Be like those scenes in movies where a person walks into their unfolding arsenal of weapons.
Maybe there could even be a specific base building part to display a SINGLE weapon, perhaps in some kind of special glass display or something.
Multitool weapons rack, ship display pad
Boutta create a large room full of ships like what you see at Hurston in star citizen
Wouldn't that be cool????
Gotta get some nav data now and have like 9 alternative landing pads
Or like having something similar to the Orbital Exocraft thing, but for ships!
You could be able to have up to 12 additional ships you can call as long as it's in the same system (or in your Freighter)
:>
Hello Games taking notes
This is also ambitious but...
The ability to play previous expeditions, but for a short time... And at the cost of a pretty Quicksilver (instead of pretty penny).
Maybe like 30,000 for just a week. No Redux difficulty reduction. The expensive nature would be to justify breaking tradition-
I’d love to see better resizing options, let’s say you have a wall, imagine clicking a key, or tapping a button for “Advanced Resize” so it would be kinda like I could go anywhere from normal 1x1 of a wall, to let’s say 2/3rd of that wall, and since it’s voxelized, there would be a snapping point at the end of the wall, and another toggle to disable far snapping points, that way it would show the green circle to ONLY the closest thing your looking at
The advanced resize would help so much since with the improved snapping, you would in theory be able to even rotate something any way you want, size it down to any shape you want, let’s say being able to resize to 1/16th the size in any way, so you could be 2/3 horizontal, while being 5/8 diagonal, and still have snap points, while having the points even if it’s tilted, as long as the snap points toggle is enabled
I also want my posters and decals to not teleport through the prefab walls-
It could be the same button too so you’d just have to cycle through the modes, I don’t design games and most likely being able to do this I’d assume there’d have to be changes to the core build mechanics if the advanced resize was to be a thing
Oh and better contact for items, there’s a snap to and free, but the snap works on ground only, it would be better if it was a simple contact snap, so the placed object would have to literally touch whatever it needs to, to be placed
I've literally tried everything but prefabs just refuse to have decals and posters unless it decides to allow it.
Yea usually you just gotta place multiple layers to get it right on a lot of stuff
Also why did my Freighter have to shit itself after Worlds-
It literally destroyed all structural integrity and it won't fix itself even if I replace the module rooms.
Bro that was like 3 hours of designing gone.
Straight up abandoned the Freighter, it didn't even give good rewards anyway. 😔
This can happen?
Yes.
Oh god
It has been addressed and fixed in patch 5.03
Use props
I make many of em and when you get good it gets fun
Use those wall panel things
Dear HG, please add more ground textures. This texture that I'm standing on, it is EVERYWHERE in the game and I'm really tired of seeing it. You replaced a bunch of ground textures with this when you added tessellation in NEXT and it just looks kind of fake and a bit ugly if I'm being honest
it always looks like it's made of rubber or something
honestly yeah like the texture variety is reaally lacking
!hg

Already sent a request. Sometimes I also post here because I know HG employees lurk on occasion, and it doesn't hurt to get more visibility for an issue.
I just post here because... I dunno.
Sharing my wishes and dreams for this masterpiece of a game is nice.
They seriously need to work on optimizing the freighter on Switch. It's too temperamental. Still.
But in seriousness, I’m not gonna stop until dynamic shadows become a thing
I want my lamp to illuminate my room so the shadows coming off my bedside table make my room look vibey
Installed the matter beam just so I can physically stay away from my freighter as much as possible
It’s like a toxic relationship
Hello games, I think it’s time to bring back planet rotation and have them orbit an actual star
If you fly too close to the sun, you start to loose shield, closer you are, more damage, buuuut just because free thinking is a thing, imagine using a ship mining beam to mine not only asteroids, but maybe even the sun for some insane stuff if you can actually get close to it
oh nice
Wait you can actually fly towards the sun?????
the orbits hint was right there in the Worlds art. get ready for Part 2
No, but if the sun was actually a part of the system instead of a skybox
Don’t play with me like this
That’s a whole planet, looks gassy too
Gas giants confirmed yup
But in all honestly, dynamic shadows, better atmospheric fog, a real sun that emits light so sun shadows are more correct and nights are better
by dynamic shadows are you talking about ray tracing?
You know how in Grounded, when you place a lamp, it emits light, so anything past an object in that light gives off a shadow
It doesn’t have to be ray traced, it can be normally rasterized
But it would give off insane depth in builds that can utilize it since every light source would give off light, instead of a slight lightmap
I feel like sunlight handling is pretty good now, now that objects react to sunlight more realistically in Worlds. I'm not sure what difference a physical 3D sun vs. a skybox would make other than nerdy coolness of being able to fly there.
I do wish though that planets reflected sunlight off of them like our Moon does. nights on NMS planets are kind of weird because the light is just kind of there, there's no moons casting light
Yea I noticed it in photo mode, at one point, the shadow map stops for maybe an hours worth, it just feels off once you notice it
(The ground texture were a lot more generic looking pre-Atlas Rises and had a greater variety of colors pre-NEXT so it was much less of an issue in the older versions fwiw)
And I mentioned the sun giving off light because if every planet actually orbited a sun, that means the let’s say in a 3d space, currently the left side of every planet is lit, that wouldn’t be the case since now it would be which ever surface closest to the sun would now be light
But I’m nerdy asf when it comes to graphics n stuff so it’s really a nit pick, the game is perfect as is already
I think there could be a bug with that in Worlds, I've noticed sometimes the "sunset" reflected on water lasts after the actual star has already set in the sky. I don't remember that being a thing prior to Worlds
I’ll check a few things out when I’m off work see if I notice a few other discontinuities
I’m gunna be honest boss this would so damn complex it would struggle to run on even high end PCs
You have multiple factors that make this much hard like atmosphere(s), no atmosphere(s), and gravity
Your right, let’s add voxelized simulation with intelligent adaptable ai
I’m jp, but screen space global illumination and normal dynamic shadows would be dope asf
Even with the highest end graphics cards with regular scenes and environments (aka not planets and stuff) they can struggle to hold 60fps stably
Path tracing would honestly take away from the style of the game so I wouldn’t actually want it
Altho technically that’s at 2160p but nonetheless these aspects are hard to do
Maybe at the most ray traced reflections
I hope more hostile enemy types are added eventually.
And this game is to run on the switch
They already have screen space reflections as it is
For certain surfaces
It isn’t applied everywhere
Or at least on things that should reflect what’s on screen
You’rereferring to RT global illumination
No just reflections
When I look at my metal floors, they aren’t reflective
Not all metal is reflective
But the metal flooring on the anomaly or space station are
I mean hell I’d love to see the most insane ray tracing your talking of
You say that like Settlements exist on Nintendo Switch.
They could easily exclude content from the console if it's too intense.
They don’t have any specular highlight, it’s as if it’s rough, but a smooth surface, it’s a deadass small nit pick of mine since I’m very attentive to every graphical part
I know but it’s just not as simple as that because ya gotta try and please everyone and it usually sucks in the end but as mentioned this probably wouldn’t work even in PS5
And the lil box cube rooms, when I’m building, the “reflection” looks very much like a low res cube map or a world map whatever it’s called
So to just add something like this for high end PCs that they themselves can barely even run is a kind of out of reach idea
No no the super high end stuff I was joking about
Yes that’s a cube map
I know
But if If I had to be a lil honest, there’s a few continuity issues within the game graphically
I have a sort of solution I’m trying to learn write up in code that could do effectively speaking RT quality reflections with a far lighter cost but idk if it’ll work yet lol
Screen space or actual RT but efficient?
Just like RT but doesn’t tank performance
That would be interesting
I expect it to eat up ram tho
Honestly though, ray traced reflections that apply to materials that aren’t 100% rough would go a long way in making the game look pretty
Gotta cost somewhere but with additional techniques it would make it easier (like upscaling)
Imagine a crazy looking world with a base with tall skyscrapers, and in the reflection is even just a low quality ray traced reflection of the world itself, doesn’t have to be any foliage or nothing
Actually nah, need more lore on the water
Lore?
Oh man it’s crazy
The water and glass
Okay new topic, LORE AND STORY because this is the best part of the game idc I need to know everything about the story
Just a random thought, but community contributed megastructures would be cool. Like the ones you see on Stellaris.
Player initializes project, has a limited time it can be completed before it stops (keep spam down), and requires so many people to contribute. Make essentially Space Stations and other things.

probably been suggested before but now that we can build our own ships it'd be cool to build our own multitool guns :o
i know we can do the whole autophage thing but that feels more advanced end-gamey
Just imagine how cool would be big cities with a lot of merchants and other stuff
Engine limitations would make it hard. U would need remove everything elese on planet to save resources. Maybe we will get them in LNF.
maybe just a consumable item that increases a single stat of something by 1 point.
condensed nanite paste or something like that
you supposedly inject it into your multitool and pick either scan or dammage
inject into your ship to increase one of the four things
and it's permanent increase
do you think they'll ever patch out the punch + jetpack movement tech
No, I dont think so. There is nothing to patch.
It even got its own special animation in 3rd person
It's a feature now
haha good good
It's crazy how that movement tech has become a core part of the movement
Wouldn't mind having more to movement, maybe a water sprinting upgrade? Treat the surface of water as solid as long as you're sprinting.
I dont think its a special animation though
its the normal melee animation jusut glitched bcs you fly
Yes, but HG can add more upgrades to movement.
That's not the reason exocraft is somewhat unattractive. Exocraft occupy a niche similar to starships.
Exocraft need additional functions, like refineries for the colossus or a flight mode for the nomad.
Colossus should have exclusive accasses to the mining beam IMO
Mining beams are grandfathered in. You can give colossus upgrade modules at best.
Pets should have glyph address in info so you would know where u found them and it would be easyer to go back to native biome for eggs inducing.
if we can get gas giants, we should also get heavy gravity planets. like 2x launch fuel to take off, and require boost to leave atmo
Also 2x fall dmg
Since they made Colossus's storage capacity mostly unimportant as a help in mining operations, maybe they should give it a mobile base that you can go inside. Basically turn it into a RV camper
Oh I know, they could also give it some experimental tech that gives you invisibility while you're in a certain radius of the Colossus. For when you don't want to be bothered by the Sentinels
I was thinking colossus would deploy and fold out to reveal its functions. It has the "cool factor" to it.
@oblique smelt if you add you're pet to you're wonders, and check the personal records and highlight the pet you want it will have the glyths and galaxy
Oh nice. I didint played much with wonders. I need to check that out. Thx a lot. I have a pet that i like but forgot from where i got it.
Yeah I'm new but my freind explained to me how to do it even had to go thru a portal for me since I haven't found the glyths yet lol for the same reason 😮💨
Something I'd actually like would be uhhh... the floating flowers and giant foxgloves to be able to occur independently of each other. Just have 'em show up on any lush planet.
I feel like there's a constant push and pull internally at HG with how much to let the procedural algorithms roam free, which I think Sean and the engineers want to do, and how much to lock down handcrafted biomes as the art team led by Grant Duncan wants to do. There's this constant argument between diversity and always looking "good" which has gone back and forth in the NMS updates
How exacly add my pet to wonders tho? I can only add animals from records
what do yall think about if living ships were like npcs, could leave any time, fly around space, mabye refuel themself, come back, fly by player sometimes
being sentient basically as intended
not nessesary, pet biomes are somewhat common
Can you doit thru the compion menu, when you click on them after that I'm pretty sure it all comes up where you rename them, abandon them aswell I'm pretty sure. If not I'll check it out when I wake up.
I get that, but from what I can tell the planets with foxgloves and floating flowers already do include a bunch of plants from the other not-mushroom lush planets so I don't think there's any issue with them going together.
Although I think I explained myself wrong there, it's less that I want to see them showing up everywhere, more that its just feels kind of samey when they always show up together because the floating flowers especially kind of draw attention to themselves if that makes sense. Like I think leaving the existing biome otherwise alone but making it so you only saw the floating plants ~half as often as you do now might be good?
It's weird because worlds seems to have a mix of both of these
The new lush planets aren't all that diverse but some of the new poison and radioactive ones have quite a bit of variety
Yeah I think they put the most effort into those, which is fair because they needed it the most. They let color variation off the leash as well, bringing it back more to the Atlas Rises days.
Yeah, it's nice that they don't feel like they're a tier below lush biomes now
The biome types they've recieved feel a lot less heavily curated than what we got in origins, for the most part
The only thing I'd want on top of what we have now is for a chance to have some crossover between biomes of the same planet type
Floating flowers on a regular lush planet, sunflowers on a mushroomy poison planet etc
Though I think we already have that on some planets with exotic props which is cool
Wish that frozen and desert worlds would get the expanded color palette treatment sometime :S
I would love to see more Dune and Hoth style planets.
Just big gaps of nothing with islands of intrest.
Day 4 of asking HG to add Aim Down Sight for the Combat Scope Tech
so most planets currently
Day infinity of asking HG to not holster the multitoll when we land on the ground.
I really wish NMS wasn't scared of giving us pockets of environments without resources.
It really harms the survival aspect since there's always everything around you. No need to really plan for anything.
What do yall think about letting us build our own space stations on planets (and to make this feature co-exist with the already space stations we have in the game, you have to pay"taxes" on each item sold on the station) or make it so we can only build them on extinct systems to semi populate it
Add small decorations such as ponds, fountains, fences and fencing.
Add the ability to rotate roof triangles.
Manage a multi-player base even if someone isn't connected.
You can access your bases even in a new game or exchange resources.
=> Start a new game without the main mission - when you start 10x, it's a bit boring. <= 😅
They weren't super common but pre-NEXT you definitely could get regular biomes that were nearly devoid of flora and pretty much matched what you were talking about. So it's something the engine should be able to do, regardless of whether it currently does.
I didint found the option. I had only rename and discard.
The way I did it was adding them from the fauna list of the planet I found them on
when do we get a sort inventory button
When they crumble under the pressure of our suggestions

let me add to the pile
Thats the problem . I lost the planet from discovery tab like 500 systems ago. I only have the pet in pet menager.
Thats what i fought. Thats why i posted idea of glyphs address in pets info in pet menager.
Ofc expedition pets would not have the address.
What would be a good way to make animals more interesting? Make them actually fight?
Make it so you can upgrade them?
They can fight.
You have to give them the right equipment. Which instead of being titled for some reason is just accessory numbers..
Some emote command like "attack" could work for pets
i dont think it'd work with some people wanting Kaijus for pets
Yknow what we should should be able to give friagtes ores so when the ship breaks, they can repair themselfs
Give us amphibious creatures
New player here - I'm wondering why if I find an outpost or anything with a save beacon, why I can't easily find that again, like some little marker that shows up on the planet. It'd be great to see where I've explored and what I haven't. The data is there, so I'm curious why the devs haven't made such a simple addition?
I know I can build beacons but sometimes I don't really know if I want to go back, like a large outpost with ships. Or it's just cool to get my bearings again when I go back
They should really add some terrain/ground texture variation like red sand, mud color or desert sand color.im not talking sand simulation.but just ground texture/color variety. It's very boring to see all desert planets have same ground textures .
Tornadoes should be able to pull your ships and exocrafts around. Ships will be affected to a much lesser extent than exocrafts though and also dependent on ship's maneuverability stat. Also make tornadoes bigger and a bit slower.
Also, I'll say it again: localized weather. It seems like they're taking steps towards it but it isn't quite there yet. I want storms to be something I can see coming whether from space or on foot. With some exceptions, since we wouldn't want to remove spontaneous, full planet storms altogether. Variety is the spice of life after all.
This very much existed in the old versions. Or at least color variation was in, I don't think the texture itself varied, but different rock and soil color in addition to grass color really helped planets feel more distinct.
I wanna say the engine probably still supports it?
Yeah sorry
i think overgrown planets should like have ruined structures all over the planet that are actually overgrown
Being able to terraform planets to change their climates, introduce new flora would be neat.
Similar to what exist in Planet Crafter, and it would require tremendous (community ?) work to realise the change.
It would allow to fix climate changes introduced by updates too 😄
if they don't want to make killing Atlas an option, how about just replacing it. like installing linux on a windows computer
Would also allow for griefing. I don't want a planet I like to be able to be changed by others
To fix that I could imagine the discoverer or first to plant a base on a planet could have the choice to lock it (and existing ones would be locked by default). We can now modify sent discoveries so unlocking it would be possible too.
Works for me
I would really like another creature ai and animation overhaul ngl
There’s tech that can dynamically switch between animations so instead of a sudden jerk between 2 different movements, it fuses the 2 so the transition is smooth, along with collisions that don’t clip into materials, or the model itself
Dunno if they implemented that in nms but I seen it on unreal engine, it’s pretty dope
Any speculations or rumour as to what is going to be added in the 'worlds 2' update ?
stuff
A lot of rumors and speculations. But nothing concrete.
Anybody feel in planets the trees and rocks are always tightly packed and very dense. it's fine for some planets/regions to have these dense rocks or flora. But they could control the density as we navigate over terrain. this could even add to some biome variety which single planets are lacking. Imagine a plain landscape with one or two huge trees in distance separated in 500 to 1000 units distance. By controlling these flora and mineral density and some ground texture variety could make exploration even more interesting with the current planetary variation they have added.
Mainly the grass density in paradise planets can also needs similar tweaking. Why not add some variety in grass pattern per planet using same assets. Like tall/ medium/short grass and less denser grass or even no grass at all. It will be better this way than the current endless fields of grass
wish we could rename stations
Yeah this use to be a thing in path finder but they never brought it back
Ikr , i dont want my notepad to be filled with stations with good loot
we need a ship visor scanner
for freighters and other ships
and add that to exocraft too
I hope we can have multiple freighters in our fleet eventually
And that freighter to freighter combat and the like becomes a thing
Sad switch melting noises
PS4 and older Xbox too...
Imo Ps4 could handle multiple freighters if u could build a base only on your main one and only yours could have frigate fleet.
do u guys think that it will be intense if nms had a mechanism where u can made districts via bases but place em as city and base by base if they are close enough u could be able to connect them
could function via settlements aswell being able to expand it more
and a posabilaty of being able to rent a player or a npcs room house apartment for taxes earnin afk weekly to balance it out
i have a feelin if this update exists some sweat gon colonize several planets ans have several citys witch would look amazeing tbh tired of seeing same building over and over again this could change it
posabilaty to crate ur own space station and give lots of materials to create it via timer of 1 h per part would be realistic and interesting and prob worth grinding makeing ports for cargo transport to other citys or planets that need it will also be good restocking adin workers exetra
this update could be called Finances
ofc make it have a longer timer to make sence and so others cant abuse it
hmm but got me thinkin
when i see lvl3 hostile zone its usually war between pirates and kor/gek/vey maybe ad fights between races possabilty of my fav nomads aka autophages fighting back via some sort of rebelion takeing over planet by planet and comferming solar take over being able to help them out would be good 2 makeing ur own empire or corpiration of sort with custom loges that u can may or may not be able to place on some veacles via land war theyll prob have new customization to fit the astetic of war via helmets for them i dont see gek as warin tipe but autophage vs korvax would be interesting
being able to fight to take over sol systems would be soo fun for pve enjoyers
and the ground veacles allready have cannons turrets extra just ad a posabilaty to extend the barrel for ling range
heavy only^
that makes me think that ut should be called War and Finances
I'd love to have planets reflect light like our Moon, like this nebula in clouds in the upper right appears to be. Right now planets in the sky are basically just dim versions of their normal look at night, and all of the light on a planet is cast from the nebulas. Night always feels a bit unnatural to me in NMS for this reason, because there's no distinct light source from any moons.
So a thought i've had and i'm sure has been brought up before is, while i've seen many kinds of planets...some of which are lebeled in a way that makes me feel as though something should happen if i linger but never does. For example: On planets which are unstable perhaps if the player remains on the planet for x period of time, animals could suddenly maerialize into existance or current animal life could suddenly shift forms into something bizzar or even normal.
Or on planets labeled with "core explosion immediate" there could be a set timer from the moment the player zones into the galaxy and the player would be alerted in some fashion like the robot voice saying: "Warning: Planet Core Unstable. Supernova Imminent. " and the player is given an icon that points them at the planet where as when the player scans the planet they are shown how long until it explodes. On average I'd say a fair timer is somewhere between 20 and 5mins and said planets could have extremely rare resources on them
Players brave enough to land on said planets would of course need to be prepared accordingly. Heavy heat protection and the planet wouldn't be a "walk in the park either" you could have environmental hazards such as lava covering much of the planet, ground splitting wide open beneath the player's feet requiring them to rocket to safety or potentially fall into a fresh pool of lava.
and of course the climax of the whole thing, the player would need to be a set distance away from the exploding planet to avoid dmg to to their ship and of course being on the planet when it blows would be mean instant death and the loss of their ship
Idk it may not work well
but the idea of an unstable planet could work
Day 6 of asking HG for Combat Scope tech to allow actual Aim Down Sights
Day 1 of asking HG to add back heridium and thamium9, that type of stuff
I do miss the giant heredium pillars sometimes
I really wish they did something with terrans and bases
Getting pretty annoying to see the terrain be unaltered at certain bases where the terrain was clearly modified.
Sorting like in Terraria
Any Talassophobia content, ground bosses are good, now waiting for deep updates!
add a setting where you can remove the long hold of the button for interaction
Add another way to travel between cylindric and cubic rooms
Can we get frameless glass walls, with triangular variants?
Definitely agree about the plants/rocks being tightly grouped. Especially noticeable to me on some of the newer biomes -- I think the trees on those don't really vary as much in type or size so it's a lot more noticeable. Special Resource Objects like vortex cubes or star brambles getting clumped in big circles is something else that looks kinda off to me
I would say the opposite, I've never seen anything approaching a real forest in NMS since the Atlas Rises days (and only on ice planets). You have clusters of trees sometimes, but it's not really trees as far as the eye can see. At least LNF seems to have real forests
I do wish that trees varied more, but that's a limitation of their procedural tech, where they use handcrafted base models and then let the proc gen tweak them slightly per tree
We need more game play mechanics, more enemy types, more ground combat, more varied space combat. Also give us more stuff like derelict freighters, give us derelict stations were we have to pew pew through floors to collect or rescue NPC’s etc, give us a protect the cargo ship mission or something etc
Oh uh wasn't talking about forests, I mean the thing where you get a bunch of very tightly grouped stands of trees with nothing in between them
And the engine supports more procedural variation in the plants than a lot of the newer models support, it's like the new... toxic? and hot biomes Worlds added where it's really noticeable to me
Sorry, I was responding more to the person you responded to who said things should be super spaced out
Proxy chat I think multiple people have said that and also functioning comms to “call someone” (notably anyone in your system or friends)
Oh, whoops!
On another note, I wish creature AI behaviors were a lot more diverse. No matter what their physical attributes they basically all act the same. I want more sophisticated hunting behaviors, more diverse types of attacks (for instance why does a giant blob just headbutt? how about giving it poisonous spores or acidic goop or something). Why do none of them react to weather? Why do aggressive plants not attack them? I want to feel like this creature on Xandos V acts in accordance with their physicality and their environment, as opposed to some ice world creature somewhere else.
I think the overall issue is there's very little sense of an intertwined ecosystem that's unique to each planet. Creatures always feel like decoration instead of part of the living world.
I wish there was shipyards on planets it would have like 5 ships you could take yours and get bossman to give you better upgrades or just new weapons
Or add the panzer 3
Would be cool to have a function like the other life forms Ability to trade but with other players a proper trade dialogue, items for currency.
Just an interesting idea for the rocket launchers on the ship. What if you tap the button you send out unguided rockets like we do now, but if you press and hold the trigger, you can lock on multiple rockets to a target and fire guided missiles
I really think the rocket launcher should have more upgrades, and this could be one of them
I dont understand why the rockets cant have upgrades like other weapons
Day 8 of asking for ADS when using Combat Scope Tech
You're probably better off submitting a suggestion to their zendesk
Oh yeah, I know! I’m just doing this cause it’s funny and I wanna see how long until it gets implemented 😂
Aah fair enough 😂😂
I feel like underwater life should be more diverse
I mean
We got many of the same stuff in lots of oceans
For example
Those giant crystals
The blueish green ones
Also the berry looking things with red stuff in them
Yeah
Turn off pvp by default
do u guys wish we could have more customization for autphage or other races
I just want to put armor under autophage clothing and the armor on the green traveler
With the red scarf
Is the scarf in the game at all?
at least they finally did that with expeditions
We need to have subnautica in nms
Also chat in the space anomaly should be available on every platform, not just pc
No 😦 we have ponchos and headscarfs but the red one isn't a thing unfortunately
Guys hear me out tho
Gonna sound crazy, but stick with me
What if when you use Combat Scope Tech, you Aim Down Sights
I know, I know, radical suggestion, but imagine
It does feel odd that this isn’t a thing…
It seems like an easy change that would improve combat.
Me after the next three updates still not being able to ADS: 😔😔
Big effort for little to none gameplay change? I dont think ads will ever be a thing. NMS its not fps and dont even tries to be realistic.
I did not mean exactly that. I meant the flora and rock density can be varied as like denser forests in some regions and all spaced out in some other region all on the same planet.
aiming down sights does not turn the game into an fps lmao, shooting guns in first person makes it an fps
oh wait
Man discovered the third person camera-
i wanna be able to terraform or repopulate a planet with different wildlife
I got this gorgeous planet that is only missing some dinos
god.... imagine carefully built worlds put together out of our discoveries
well I made a suggestion anyway
This would be so cool, I've found so many planets that look amazing for base building just for it to be a crappy frozen planet. And terraforming sounds fun
It would also be cool to have freighter wars and be able to controll the canons in the main room whilst your squadron deals with the starships
Thing is, the world you're looking for is out there, it's just a matter of searching and exploring. That's what the game is all about.
Idk how many times this has been suggested but
Passive non-hazardous rain on lush worlds would be incredible
Like imagine a lush world where there's a perpetual light drizzle but it's not dangerous
yeah sorry I dont have a thousand years to spend looking for it
rather let me make it myself
makes no difference either way
Is this modded? i havent seen those type of trees yet in game
no idea, i do have better planet generation but i dont know if thats from that mod or not
The exploration should never come at the cost of player agency. This is exactly why I’m such a fan of the ship customization. You still need to explore in order to build your own ship. Likewise they can take the same approach to planet manipulation/terraforming.
Maybe you can explore planets with the life forms you’re looking for an set up infrastructure to relocate them to your home planet
But that’s imho
Also Combat Tech ADS
I would fucking love a system name search in the star map
Those trees exist on lush worlds, if you're talking about the Dr. Seuss looking trees. I used to have them all over one of my main base worlds back in the NEXT days
Yeah, I think allowing people to build their own dream planets would fundamentally alter the core drive of the game. If HG allowed it, then you would have people saying, "I want to trade trees and animals with other people to put on my planet" and a lot of people would just stop exploring, because why look for new things when you can just grab them from other people? It's a slippery slope the game shouldn't go down. Exploration should always remain the key push of the game.
Maybe someone can make a mod that does that for those that really want it though.
The most that would work IMHO is changing planetary conditions to be more or less extreme
Or to permanently remove sentinels somehow
Stuff like that
Also maybe inducing dissonance
But defo not just making a custom planet
Yeah I could see a weather control device being a thing, that would be a reasonable kind of planet alteration
There would have to be a big caveat and rarity to that though
I think that's a rather moot point. Time and time again, you hear people asking what the "point" of No Man's Sky is about and the response is always: You decide... as long as you are dedicated enough
And there's the issue. No Man's Sky core engagement is exploration, yes, but should it be at the expense of the players? If the former sentiment is to be true then the answer is clear, no. Ultimately @pseudo crag isn't asking to trivialize exploring, but to make exploring less punishing. It's accessibility, that's what is being requested, not trivialization.
People who only want to explore to find their perfect world are free to do so. People who want the rawest of survival experiences (me) can turn down freebies at the anomaly. The cold hard facts are that people are time constrained. There are only so many planets and so many systems a person who wants to enjoy the game can commit. Should they be denied the same joys as someone who with more time and dedication could achieve what they want? I am and always will advocate for giving more players more options and freedom.
Lets not gate keep here and pretend it's going to make exploring inconseqential, the game is what you make it. Don't limit others options just because you prefer your own.
Also ADS with Combat Scope
I'm fine with the idea of having various chosen animals roaming in your base. And that's pretty much what the wonder projector is for.
But. You're talking about permanently altering a whole planet for your subjective tastes. Planets that are part of a community shared universe and that are open for anyone to land on and build.
That is a slippery slope. I know players get attached to systems and planets and consider some their territory emotionally. But in actuality, you only "own" the area the base is on, not the whole world.
That's what compromise looks like, that's something I can get behind. Those are 110% valid concerns. Either way, each player gets what they want without needing to impose their preferred experiences onto others. The wonder projector is still very limited in terms of versatility, but that's what this channel's for isn't it? Requesting features.
This isn't really gatekeeping. It's a valid argument that this feature would reduce the incentive to play for a lot of people
Hard disagree, that's purely speculative.
It's also speculative that the feature would ever provide more accessibility
Since you'd have to actually find every feature you want to place on the planet, if we're taking the same route as they did with ship building
Sure, but would I have to find everything all on one. As someone in a mathetmatical field, let me tell you. Coming across systems that each have one thing you desire is magnitudes more likely than finding one system that has exactly everything on one.
The same is true for ships, you can see this.
Of course yeah. But having an exploration feature on the scale of NMS pretty much necessitates super rare finds. It's fundamentally different from ship hunting in that planet exploration fills an entirely different role in the game.
Exploration is supposed to surprise the player by showing them unexpected finds. That gets totally undermined if you can create any planet you can imagine from a huge list of assets. Ship building doesn't really have that, especially since plenty of players stick on one main ship
There's no reason to explore after you've found enough parts for your dream planet, and the game can't surprise you since you can already make everything there is
I wholly reject your assertion that I'm trying to gatekeep and that this is an accessibility concern. I'm not against accessibility concerns in any way, and although I don't like to pat myself on the back, I advocated for rich customization options a few months before HG introduced very similar options, and perhaps in some very small way I had a positive impact on getting those accessibility options into the game that have given players a lot more freedom in how they want to experience the game.
But every game has central friction points by which it asks the player to engage with in the gameloop. They are core concepts in defining the game's nature. In NMS those friction points are exploration, survival, combat, and trading. Exploration requires a search to find new sights, the search for a perfect base world, etc. Remove that scarcity, and for the average player the demand for exploration drops. If you don't have exploration as a carrot on a stick, then the other tentpoles become chores -- grinding for materials, fighting things with the subpar combat. Those aspects start to fall apart without exploration driving them. And frankly, being able to create planets in a lab just reduces the uniqueness of planets the game creates and the wonder of stumbling upon something you instantly fall in love with.
Morgeil has a much more pragmatic and valid concern. These worlds aren't ours, they are shared by the community. It's a similar concern about those who want to own space stations or whole star systems.
I'm totally open to the idea of some limited planetary adjustments to planet aesthetics, such as weather patterns, but I think the fundamental uniqueness of those planets should be preserved for everyone.
^
Allow me to put it this way: Suppose there were 100 distinct flora and 100 distinct fauna, and I'm looking for exactly 2. Then you'd only have to calculate 100C2 to find the number of unique possible combinations there are: 4950. If each star system never repeated a combination and had 3 planets with each planet having it's own Flora/Fauna pair with no overlap. Then that's 1650 per system. That is a 1/1650 chance of finding the exact planet with the exact pair that you want, that is 0.0006% chance of finding what you are looking for by the current exploration method.
(Fun fact: I volunteer in historic/nature preservation outside of my day job, which also fuels a lot of my viewpoint towards this)
(Trying really hard not to make a remark about introducing invasive species...)
I understand that the inherent value of a rare resource is apparent, but understand that when you are dealing with space on a magnitude like this... Scarcity is not the word for it, it's statistical improbability.
That is awesome!
it's ok breathe! It's all a simulation! It's all... a sim... oh...
Like allow me to share an anecdote from my pov
I think the whole point is to see what there is to find. I don't think there's anyone in this player base that is solely looking for their dream planet down to the model of rock that's used. For most people it's down to biome and a few colours. While the maths is correct, I think you're overestimating how many of these variables actually matter to most people.
Plus I don't really think it would fit the game thematically anyway
I definitely don't want to invalidate your viewpoint, I know some people have very exacting visions of what they want. I'm that way about some of my art, so I get it. But actually NMS helps me let go of some of that and reminds me that striving for perfection can indeed be the enemy of good. Exploring planets, I strive to see the good things, the beautiful things, in all of them. Okay with some it can be tough haha. But that's my headspace when I'm exploring. I think some get caught up in this idea of the perfect planet, but there's a million beautiful planets if we step back a bit from our expectations.
I never engaged with the ship trading system before orbital. Each ship was so very often not something that I particularly liked, bits and pieces here and there sure, but I never found one that I quite liked. And on the ocassion that I did find something I liked, it was too often a C class or B class. Sure I could have just looked up the place of an S class ship on YT, but I was intrinsically motivated not externally motivated. So I just found a mediocre Sentinel Ship and called it a day.
Then Orbitals dropped and suddenly I wasn't struck with the impossible odds of finding what I wanted. Instead of it being an O(n^x) time complexity, it was O(n). I was jumping systems left right and center. Jumping in every black hole, fixing every crashed ship I could find, spent god knows how much credit buying ships from each and every vendor at every space station. The game never felt more cohesive to me than in those moments. And when I finally built the ship I wanted, I didn't stop, I wanted to explore more and get more ship parts and farm and build all so that I could keep realizing my ship visions. This was a positive feedback cycle. It wasn't a chore anymore it was fun.
Both of you guys make very good points, but what I implore you guys to consider is how such a system would promote and even elevate No Man's Sky's many other systems that exist in isolation. How it can all flow seemlessly into one another without "ruining" what the game is about. In fact I never quite understood No Man's Sky's vast beauty until the devs gave me a viable way to engage with it all. That's what it comes down to, providing a new avenue to engage. I still look for ships, but instead of 0.0006% chance, I don't get bogged down by how hard it was to find that first one and keeping looking for more and more ships to reuse in building my ever growing garage of custom ships. On top of occasionally find a sick af ship that I can't build (sentinel/living) ahem. I know my ships are inauthentic and when I see someone with a legit ship, I am jelly but happy for them. This is what I mean by player agency.
Also ADS with Combat scope would be cool ig
They did a very good job with the ship building feature! I think it would be very hard to map that kind of feature onto planets without triggering the concerns about planet building we raised. Unless it was a very narrow set of customizations.
I do think that if they were to implement something like that, then they'd have their work cut out for them. But they've surprised everyone so far so I don't think they'd be daunted by such a task
What I want to know is: How does the Galactic Hub keep everything in order by where they're at? The reason I bring them up is because they'd make a great case study for how any multi-stellar ownership could operate and what systems/framework could be put into code/practice if they wanted to do bigger and grander things.
Waiting for the person who does “day x of asking hello games to add ads scopes to the game”
I actually want ads
I felt a disturbance in the force, who hath summoned me
I would welcome ads for things that are in the game
even Sentinel propaganda transmissions
Day 10 of asking HG for ADS when using Combat Scope 🥳
lol why would other players care what I make my world when there's how many quintillion already there for them to make for themselves??
nonsense, you can still explore to find even better stuff to bring back to your "collection" system
or systems
the concerns are really weak considering how big the game is , nobody cares that someone can name an animal or planet because they saw it first, so whats wrong with extending that to the whole planet biome
plus player created planets could also be something to explore for
just sounds like arguments for the sake of having an opposite take
Wouldve been cool if you could get ship parts from ships you beat in battle
There should be a carousel view of our owned starships, multitools and companions with 360 view .
There is no ui to view our not active ships/multitools and their stats .
I just posted an idea on the help desk suggestion board and I wanna hear some feedback from the community. I think this one could really go somewhere. Imagine recruiting cargo pods that float around freighters, using nanites. These cargo pods act as a reusable attachment module for freighter expeditions that increases the yield of rare items. Originally I planned on suggesting they just sit around and add cargo space but we don't really need cargo space and I liked the vibes of command freighters having little cargo pods floating around them so I had to get creative for their uses
I'd love to see a way to look around in your cockpit on pc and rounded cuboid room floors
Who wants to brainstorm with me? What if there was some attachment nodes on personal refiners and freighter refiners.
The amount of attachment nodes depends on the tier.
The attachment nodes can be fitted with modules similar to those found on everything else with different tiers and they could boost fuel efficiency which boosts the speed of refining, and if the refiner uses fuel, it reduces the fuel usage too.
There can also be an increase in stack limit inside those refiners for people playing on survival to have a much easier time.
Even a rare chance of getting a small chance of doubling the output on each refine roll when you open up an s tier refining module.
In addition to that, what if we can fit our ship with a portable large refinery that also requires fuel unless you're on a solar ship or living ship. The solar ship instead uses a solar refiney that passively charges fuel when not in use, and the living ship uses its stomach acid as fuel.
get rid of most of the quick menu
hold alt to look around I think
it would be cool if they did like an ocean update, the oceans arent really expanded on when ur underwater. There could be like shipwrecks or gargantuan monsters or like leviathans or something
Ocean worlds update where you can get a module for your ship or ocean exocraft to traverse the abyssal core of pure water planets where all manner of crazy things lurk.
Underwater currents that threaten to damage your hulls.
Rare minerals only found in abyssal planets, that allow you to traverse even harsher environments on deadly gas giant planets.
yeah! thats basically what i was thinking, but i feel they need to expand more on the creatures attacking your ship, because thats not really a huge worry above ground. Also water pressure, at a certain point u cant get out of ur ship or you will die
Yeah you'd need special exosuit upgrades for certain water and atmospheric pressure like in water planets and gas giants.
There could be vast underwater stations and floating rock formations in the gas giants with stations on them
Derelict stations if you will
yeah, and they could add a new exosuit aswell that is basically the minotaur but underwater so you can mine those minerals u suggested
Like a smaller, more compact, more agile minotaur. Something with a water themed name like the leviathan armor or the depth charger or the shark suit
leviathan armor sounds sick tbh
You can get in it like power armor but after you get into it the suit shoots out a burst of steam to pressurize itself. And it's compact enough to get in and out of your ship with it but it's weight is only really suitable for high pressure planets where it becomes more weightless, in other places it's clunky and slow
yeah, also it has jets on its feet instead of a jetpack like the minotaur
Jets on the feet, back and the elbow area for maximum mobility. You can charge at a charging abyssal creature and side step it at the last second full speed by simply moving your joystick to the left or right mid flight
You can only craft it with materials you can only acquire by putting a module on your exosuit for max exosuit depth. It's designed to allow you to go even deeper into the abyss
how big are these creatures? im thinking like GIANT since they are in the ocean
like
half of a sandworm
Yeah that sounds about right. It will be a tough fight but with the sheer mobility of the leviathan armor, it should be a piece of cake with the right modules, again, only craftable with abyssal materials
Or hear me out, Torpedos
Compact torpedo systems, also a chest laser like ironman
All based off of pressurisation tech that can be found in derelict underwater stations, or intact underwater stations with a nanite sale area similar to space stations
yess
but i also think that the base creatures in the ocean should get an upgrade
more variation
shark like, eel like
but one thing is for sure
ALOT bigger
Indeed that goes without saying
The leviathan suit can automatically recharge energy using the hydrogen and oxygen in the surrounding water to power its lasers and with a bit of unstable energy it can compress some more compact torpedos
Fishing sounds like fun
yes but it would take some time to recharge energy
how much torpedos do you think to kill the abyssal horrors?
Depends on the creature. I was thinking the really dangerous ones like the dreadmaw would have a hardened carapace like the brood mother and you'd have to crack that before doing any damage, then once you expose that soft gooey center you can just melt it with a few hits from the pressurized hydrogen laser.
Also the laser could recharge like a "reload" of a gun. The idea is for it to open up some vents on your shoulder pads and suck in a bunch of water and quickly process it into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from its core
yeah, and there could be some crystals on its face that u have to break in order to fully crack its armor
i feel that the dreadmaw should atleast be the size of a small freighter, no?
yeah a big one. But smaller creatures like the phantom squid are dangerous because they are less corporeal, like a jellyfish, and you'd have to bombard them with heat from something like the hydrogen beam to make them slowly harden into something you can shatter with either more damage or much quicker with a torpedo or two. These things hunt in packs though
yeah. i hope all of this gets added sometime in the future because these ideas sound sick
indeed I like to brainstorm ideas
same
You can submit bug reports, suggestions or feedback to Hello Games here: https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Do you want to also help me put together a solid idea for my previously mentioned idea with the refiners? I'd appreciate somebody to bounce ideas back and forth with to add onto it and make it more usable
Sure
sorry was doing something
it's all good so was I lol
so I was thinking there needs more context to it. We need more features for the refinery bonuses
Slightly adjacent to assigning Cargo Frigates to your fleet. Despite being at the helm of everything, being a captain requires relatively little involvement on your end. Occasionally on Combat expeditions, your fleet will request your aid in taking down the target. I wish something along this line happened for other expedition types and more frequently as well.
On Voyage Expeditions, maybe you'll be called into a stopping system along the way, catch them planet-side at an Operating Outpost needing food/supplies/rations/tech.
On Trade Expeditions, maybe the fleet'll be negotiating prices in a System at a Trading Outpost and competitors or pirates start attacking to disrupt/pillage and it's up to you to defend them until the negotiations go through.
Just some rough ideas I got together, really the game can be so much more alive and dynamic if HG leaned more into developing PROC events and dynamic systems that would lead to emergent gameplay.
but as long as I get ADS with combat scope whatevs ig.
yeah
im gonna friend u so we can talk later in dms
yeah it would be cool if instead of recalling a ship you can get a module on your main freighter to allow you to transport yourself to and from freighters on expeditions to make repairs
with the trade expeditions, maybe they can call you to request additional funding for a sort of gamble on the outcome, in the form of either units or nanites
and you can choose to make one of 5 choices. a small stipend of units, a large one, a small amount of nanites, a large one, or nothing at all.
If you have an overwhelmingly high star rating the trade will more likely be high yield low risk
Day 11 of asking HG to let me ADS with Combat Scope
probably a pretty common request but being able to have multiple freighters would be so cool
i wish there was cities in nms, like in wealthy systems or sum
curved cuboid wall inner floors
Tesseract in no mans sky
please add expedition rewards to the normal quicksilver pool. and overall add better filtering to the station.
please, god, it's all i truly desire.
I would love to see a 'pointing laser' to guide the minotaur AI system to help you mine!
ROCK AND STONE, TO THE BONE!
ROCK AND STONE!
I would love being able to man the anti freighter guns on the pirate freighters or at least have npcs do it and larger npc pirate fleets for protracted engagements
Hello Games should make the freighter types more unique in their functionality. System freighters being the most efficienct (or something like that), capital freighters having the greatest jump range, and pirate dreadnoughts having raiding mechanics
Another idea about the discovered save points: Have them convert the discovery to a 2D map of the world. That circular pulse just cleared away a portion of the fog of war over the map. Us Cartographers would go nuts looking for the final few save points to completely clear a planet map.
I think that Light No Fire is going to have something in this vein, where your exploring can open that area for others somehow. Based on little things I've read
Wait does NMS already have 2D planetary maps?
i wish
via givein u maps they have to make planets 100% terraformable
and i wanna see a holowed out planet core turned like sum from warhammer
We should have bigger freighter fleets, freighter to freighter battles, and possibly having more than one freighter with one of them being the only one with a base as more of a command station for the rest
the other none main 1s being extra storage or solar system controlers?
shi imagination to the fullest
Even better makeing power space stations witch have port tipe things to dock ur fregiter and prob craft some useing blueprints like parts similar to when u scrap ships and just forming them into sum new being able to have or not have some parts and makeing it interacable like adding more weapons or addin storage or turing it into a only exploration station vua givein it more ly
The other ones could also be for starship deployment as a unique type that deploys a special squadron for larger space battles
Or industrial ones to harvest things from the atmosphere better, like radon, chromatic metal, etc.
Or ones that you can use to build frigates rather than just buy them from fleets
Or ones for anti star ship defense specifically or ones that could maybe ram the hull of other freighters though that’d require the addition of being able to pilot a freighter
And freighters should get damaged parts after each battle in exchange for winning the battle being a much much greater than usual reward
they prob wont ad this but ill tell sum more imagine if when u get shot from like a cannon or a rocked it makes a hole and creates a vacume forceing u to ad airlocks to ur builds i can imagine npcs flyin out and some haveing time to turn on grav boots
and others ofc drifting into space
crew purchase💀 that would be interesting and have more game mechanics
like would ad med bays workable guns they can pick up if boarded
some surrendering if they decide to or are just peaceful
cuz if they do ad war tipe and more realistic stuff like finance ship expansion exetra
it will all at the end make sence •”spoiler” at the end of 1st main quest the character says no matter what happends its allways the same war gek vykeen korvex
im allready seeing the seccond gek spawn😭😭😭
more armor types or just working armor suits exetra some with some without shoulder covering or being able to edit the existing 1s
war helms general helms exetra
I think if they add that it wouldn't be on your base but on the actual hull of the freighter and you can get different upgrades for it or customize a 2D map in a way for it, or have actual crew sizes for freighters
That'd give a lot of mechanics, especially if you could assign crew members to frigates
Boarding freighters and taking them over sounds dope
ik shi now i wish i studied it so i can work for hg and make sum stuff come to life even tho its prob hard code
If they did this they'd need to do a combat update which honestly would perfect the space combat in this game and increase the player count a lot
I'd wanna work for them just gor giving them ideas and feedback on things, sounds great
tbh ye and they can use same mechanic if the plan to do planetry invasion
like imagine gek or sum other race had cityies and other stuff u can take over inslave or just capture
They could also add planetary annihilation with freighters, and it causes all sentient life on the planet to either attack you or escape, and sentinels will attack you too, and you get some bonus for succeeding
or change the dominat spcies to urs
it should take days to balance it out and to take over peace my peace
and if u take over lets say to balance it out more than 15 sol sytems the owners of the teretoryes that u took the most would prob invade like full charge to end the treat
Maybe you can siphon a planets core and use it for something
energy prob?
Maybe extra freighters take energy to power?
And the energy from a planets core lasts the longest, say like a irl month
But the cost of getting one is either 1billion+ credits or you have to be able to survive siphoning it from a planet
but also dreains planets makeing it a valuble resorce u can destroy sol systems that way like too much instabilty = BOOOM eratication of a planet
Maybe industrial freighters and frigates could harvest the crusts of drained planets for lots of resources
or planet colapse
mega profit
but at what cost😢
100k souls😭😭
It'd definitely tank your reputation with whatever species of the galaxy your in
Should give like -50 or more
ooo bejng able to ruin or fix planets via climate
Freighters and space are ironically the most underused part of the space game
yep ngl
but with some of these things we said could work with planets 2
cuz the game is about universe exploration (and possible conquiring)
I mean you can't really intereact with planets from space besides scanning them atm
Being able to deploy troops to the ground would be cool too
well idk how that didnt come to mind😭
i think the game gon be filled with soo much date it will be like 25+ more gigabites but it will be worth it
And maybe your main freighter depicts what type of troops they are, and each has advantages
It'd 100% be worth it, and it'd bring alot of life to the game
tbh ye and prob will make the game more difficult cant imagine it on hardcore 1 life💀
that would be rage for me ngl 😭
More difficult in this aspect would be good
Like imagine you're just starting out and you see a fleet of freighters and frigates with a bunch of starships descending to your planet and a death star beam being charged up to rip your planet apart
That'd be super unlucky but it'd set the tone of the game real fast
To where, if you just start and don't have your starship, you're done lol
It could be 30 for a baseline and with upgrades you can get it to like 10-15
ye that makes a possabilaty for civilians to retreat
like via the shuttles or civ transporters
Maybe you could give orders to your fleet and freighters to target all escaping vessels to try to 'silence' them and if you succeed you lose less reputation and if you don't succeed you lose even more
oooooooo i got a plan but it involves illegal trades with pirates
That could add more to do with pirate controlled systems
so u can pay some 1 milions and they will spread rumors that the planet turned uninhabitable so the nativs wont retake it back
I imagine it'll be uninhabitable when it's core is drained lol
and than have a timer on how long till they find out and try to retake via lil raids
i think to make it playable just have 5 cityes
and those cities haveing teretories that include all the comertal locations we have today
Make it procedural for how big they are based on the economy level, and make it anywhere from 1-6 cities on a planet like they do with planets in a system
ur accually right and depending on that will depend how long will it take till they surrender or till the governor is dead
imagine politics💀
naj plitics are too much ill be glad for this and makeing cityies have rentable dorms instead of building bases u have a apartment and ull be able to build minimum 5 buildings via rooms earning taxes of sort and if u overprice u lose civilians have more poor unhappy and homeless civs
I don't think you should add too much politics in it, otherwise it could become too much
That'd be a good way to introduce invasions and all this
If you do it as the second spawn, it could split the Gek into 2 factions and the new ones that are aggressive again could have special armor and things you could get
same with korvex and autophage cuz of religion authophages beleave in atlantid and korvex beleave in atlas
idk about vyheek tho
the would prob fight sentinels still or they could be inforcers so like if geks invade tooo much or ur nation or faction or race gets too much theyll help the the nation push back via support
makeing the war endless and prob balanced
Something like that would definitely work
human race being added in would be interesting imagine fighting a way to save humanty via transporting them to a earth like or paridise planet
but being neutral via inhabiting systems with no dominant race
makein space stations with a timer of 1 munth or 2 weeks to make sence cuz it takes resorces and time
the bigger the space station the more resorces power and rations it needs
imagine makeing a full on system for farms fuel gathering from other systems trades mineing exetra another reason for crew or assining civilians to jobs
tbh thats all that counts to mind
but if this becomes real u be seein me only play no mans sky for prob weeks and years cuz of the endless possibilities and tasks
the game will become 100 gbs on ps5 😭
I feel like most players would just abuse the human race lol
You could also send your extra freighters to other solar systems potentially for special missions
there are endless possibilities ngl😭
Yeah
yeah a % drop for those would be cool
suggest on the feedback form
thats what i meant by take over u send trops they war u got a option go on the front and help or just relax and do ur things and tycoons😭
I would love if they just added more precise build pieces for building with timber, stone, and alloy, like railings that clip to staircases like the small timber wallsand short timber walls etc.
In the future I would like to stop losing thousands of copper I spent LIFE mining to turn into chromatic metal. POOF! just gone in the refiner........
In the lore it's very much implied the Anomoly race is humans, or at least a ||simulation of them.||
sp the Atlas Order could sound good as a new playable species
And big sail roofs that could cover courtyards on planets with hot rain
i hope they add vile brood mothers dropping something more than these 4 helmets after you obtained them
They also need to expand the amount of bases and players that can be in one place at a time. It would be amazing to see people build entire cities together with no restrictions
Culver's would be good
I wish we had pre-build spiral staircases that would fit within the square or modular basing bit.
How hard would it be to make a LAVA liquid that killed players VERY fast for LAVA planets
Make the liquid super foggy and hard to see through?
The damage from storm fire would probally be = to lava
or if you kick it up a notch
im js - I wanna find a mustifar planet and I feel like seeing a water ocean on a "lava planet" just doesn't do this game credit
npc fights on planetary surface and planetary dungeons are my biggest wishes for the future. A bit more gameplay depth here and there 🙂
If you looked at everything nms had already done and pretented it was a suggestion here in this tab - it would look no more impossible than any other suggestion I see
but those are two of the most popular suggestions i've seen
I would love planet dungeons the length of lost freighters you explore in space..
and some form of pvp arena
i think some time in the future we will get dungeons or smth similar. They improved variety and visuals further and further. I bet they will add some more gameplay depth in the future
And maybe one idea not many people came up yet i think is: Bring these big dino-type animals which you could see in the first NMS trailer. would love to see them in the game. You could also see an animal running down a tree in the first trailer, something like this or more interactions with the fauna inside the game
They already exist. They are just a bit rare.
lol i think i played this game for about 3-400 hours ps4 and pc combined and cant remember seeing one xD
maybe a small one with a bit shorter neck, but never seen an example really big and with these really really long neck
never saw something bigger like for example this one ( #973 ) #explorers-archive message
but okay nice to know
I’m not a fan of the expeditions, I don’t like the idea that they are time limited.
On PC there are ways to circumvent the time limit, but I personally enjoy the FOMO experience so I don’t. I only just started with Liquidators so I don’t have the others. I like seeing others with the drops from previous expeditions and thinking: “Man, I’m never gonna miss another expedition after this!”
I'm thinking about putting the suggestion in for D class ships and multitools which start out with more slots, and have higher than normal s class base stats when you fully upgrade them to s class. The goal of this is to give people a poodoo ship with the goal of upgrading it for better stats than if they'd just have bought an s class starship outright.
would be fun if they put a single D at the beginning of each d class ship or multitool's name like D X Tornado
or maybe just make them x class ships and you can only upgrade them at pirate outposts? and upgrading them doesn't increase their class, just their base stats?
i kinda wish they kept old space stations but also the new ones and just give different layouts for different races
i hope they add exotics to the ship builder next
its perfectly balanced if you think about it
You need to find 3 exotics with the parts you want, salvage them entirely for parts, and then put it together.
thats already a tall order as it is
Not really hard if u know the mechanics. Every system has an exotic. And squid is only 1 part.
For a space revamp I'd like to see different region types in the galaxy map that come with their own uniqueness, like a region more likely to have x type of plantets, an unexplored region, a desolate region that maybe has systems spread far apart and with very few planets.
I'd also like to see more variety in systems, so systems with more planets and planets with more moons etc
I think it would add to exploration
and ontop of that for a space revamp i'd like to see improved space visuals of course, more space vistas, things to come across, things to actually do IN space and also better planet visuals when viewed from space
there's some stuff in #nms-spoilers about datamined things for worlds part 2, but that doesn't mean we'll get any of it given that worlds part 1 didn't have anything to be datamined for
Y’know what should be in World’s pt 2?
Day 13 of asking HG to let me ADS with Combat Scope Tech
Better deep sea exploration hopefully. Worlds Part 1 only touched the waves and the swimming animation for water.
Cave exploration would be cool. If we had vast cave systems.
idea - Make any body of water on a planet scannable. You can't mine it per say but tells you what liquid it is perhaps instead of water..
Idea - pirate outposts on planets, doesn't even need to elaborate
Warping in to a system via freighter should also have a chance of triggering pirate attacks.
Aim assist for the controller would be nice
Yeah bro this. And make them raidable
And they call for reinforcements, ships come from the sky, and u have a chance to fight a Dreadnaught
an update to the exotic ship cockpits woud be nice cus right now they just use the explorer ship one
A series of new exonefs could be really cool.
Deeper and more varied oceans would be sick for Worlds Part 2 but i also hope they improve Lush planets more too.
Nms has a lot of music themes. Expedition focused arnound music could be intresting. Setting up an epic concert or something would be cool.
For me this expedition was kinda boring
all the expeditions have been very boring to me. they are mostly the same thing? BUT if they made an expedition where i'd have to set up music i think i'd genuinely tweak out
like expeditions don't capture me at all. it's just a thing i speed run whenever they appear so i can get back to actually having fun
Expeditions just have too little story for me to make the grind bearable. You can go through 10 hours of expedition and only get 4 or 5 vague sentences out of it. The only reason I do them is basically for the exclusives. On occasion they've introduced experimental gameplay elements with them and that's cool, but that's more of the exception
i think expeditions are very easy too, so there is no real challenge
Yeah the little experimental gameplay they introduce is usually awesome. I feel you with the story too but that's a theme with no man's sky in general. The main story has LOTS of that and the other optional stories like the autophage mostly consists of vague sentences as well.
It's so bad
Thing is when they do this ZZZzz KzkKtt whatever filler dialogue I just skip through the entire thing and cease to care about it
it's such a chore
Why can't they just write meaningful lines?
I agree
I think they generally want to write narrative breadcrumbs that they want players to piece together like a puzzle, which I get and that's often interesting and fun to theorize about, but I think they go a bit too hard with that. I'd rather see some normal storylines in the Expeditions now and then with named characters, like they did with the main narrative quests.
yes
Do you guys think the current proc gen version is better than pathfinder? Or is still inferior
You mean in terms of biome generation?
I was thinking about like what if we can share our star ship just like car in gta
They can sit their and go hangout with us
will we be able to get intecepor parts for custimization?
like the sentinal interceptors
i want ground fights with npcs, like cowboy duels with our multitools
Day 14 of asking HG for ADS while using Combat Scope Tech
Yeah
uhhh what?
Of course it's better
For people who aren't into building, I'd like some form of housing you can buy
Even just an apartment on a station or something
honestly a blueprint system would be great just for the sake of moving bases
we have the inventory space to carry enough materials for an entire base's worth of crap so i think its entirely feasible.
I still prefer pre-NEXT planets, I'm not really fond of the current terrain generation -- it feels really flat and when it's not flat it feels like I'm walking on sine waves and not something natural -- and even if the palette has been expanded it's still comparatively limited. I'm also not fond of the way biomes work now or how a lot of the newer tree assets added between Atlas Rises and Worlds aren't very procedurally constructed.
I think the 1.0-1.2 terrain gen is still better (though it was more buggy). But I enjoy wandering around planets at least as much as Pathfinder / Atlas Rises again. The color variation feels more or less back to what it was pre-NEXT, and the new water and clouds and weather effects add so much character to each planet.
The biome asset variation is still not enough for me... they really need to add something like 50 new procedural flora assets per biome, and 100 new fauna models. I still see the same derpy animals I would see in 1.0 far too often. Almost every planet has one of the guys with huge front legs and tiny back legs. Also, the Worlds biome reset seemed to make those poison gas plants spawn everywhere. Their latex glove sounds make my skin crawl. :(
But asset variation aside, at least the vibes of each planet are really strong now, more than they've ever been. They are on the right track.
I'd say the color variation's back for the temperate planets but not really the other ones, especially the desert and ice planets.
Moreso the deserts -- the frozen planets admittedly didn't have a TON of color variation originally but the deserts did.
don't you just want to see a Multitool display plaque or cabinet of some sort in the future? that way you no longer have to choose between the ones you have now and the ones you'll find later down the road?
I'd say variety wise it's the best it's ever been aside from terrain
Though that's not something they can really change in existing planets ig
From one side I think a display cabinet for multitools would be cool idea
From the other i see some problems
-
I'm sure it'll bug out for a lot of people and they would loose their multitools
-
I'm sure i would put my multitools in them and forget where I left them
obviously on a freighter base or a planetary base you built 🤣 would have to be a display of some kind built by the player
You underestimate how many bases I have and how often I forget where I left my belongings
mean yeah it's a game and eventually you have to replace your MT's at some point but I'd like to keep the ones that are unique looking or ones I've spent a good deal of time using
🤪
hopefully worlds part 2 will introduce even more variety for the others
Anybody wanna help me think of some ideas to make the settlements and the base specialists worthwhile?
I was thinking for settlements you could have build buildings that directly affect the trade economy in the system, and also buildings that produce certain items in the production line. A whole bunch of settlement only commodities like liquor and illegal narcotics (if you pursue the criminal enterprise settlement feature) or farming stuff that you can refine into foods or oils, which can then be refines into stuff like soap, fuel, or illegal explosives (again for the criminal enterprise settlements). Pursuing criminal enterprise causes worsening conflict in the system so pursue at your own risk.
The other stuff you could do is build mining rigs and factories for harvesting materials and refining them and building valuable components with them eventually.
You can also form an armed militia and set out expeditions similar to fleet expeditions with the new expeditions tab in the settlement control panel. There can also be a productions tab there too to manage production of goods and hire workers to enhance the production of certain goods.
For the armorer specialist in the quest line I feel it's kind of bonked if you have him just keep making terrible multitools so I was thinking when you scrap multitools you have a chance of acquiring component blueprints that you can give to him to give him the ability to create better multitools certain types of multitool like alien multitools and sentinel ones and all that stuff
For the plant specialist all I could think of was making him automatically pick up plants while you're away and put them in any nearby storage container if you have one installed, wherever he is set up at, like a freighter. And also give him feces (forgot what the game calls it) to make fertilizer which he automatically uses on nearby plants to enhance their growth rate.
I haven't thought of any ideas for the scientist or the construction specialists yet
@pure grove
No gifs in this channel please
[insert Mr. Krabs ringing cowbell while shouting 'GIVE IT UP FOR DAY 15']
Day 15 of asking HG to let me ADS with Combat Scope Tech
Gods I hope they add a larger variety in creature size.
Not sure how feasible it would be, or if it would create a major tax on CPU/GPU's. But I'd love to see actual Leviathan/Colossus-Class creatures. The worms were a good start - more stuff to give me megalophobia would be amazing
Deeper Oceans would be a muuuust have. Perhaps they could "lower" the planet's max build height to compensate for the option of having mega-deep oceans.
Perhaps a part 2 to the Abyss update?
Add degrees of a rotation when we rotate base items
An option for end-game players to be able to "create/modify/tweak" their own planet.
Somewhat similar to the custom-ship creation, where you could swap pieces and colors of a ship.
Every planet type, biome, modification, creature/mineral/fauna/flora you do a scan of, or perhaps a special scan of, gets saved to a database.
Pick and choose what kind of planet fauna, flora, etc you want, and it'll change a planet, or generate a new one.
Yes
Not for all planets, just for one type of planet that we need to find.
Like some special.. "unfinished planet" that we can find and change to our own specifications?
Could be a rare find..
Yes, and it avoids having several idenditic planets in the same solar system.
Sounds goood to me^
Anyone got any good inspirations from games that would be a good source of ideas?
Subnautica's the first thing that immediately comes to mind for me. Big scary fishies, deep oceans, and a haunting sound design is all that's needed for a suitably terrifying experience
Automatically think of games like Elite Dangerous, but that might be slightly more difficult to compare to, or get ideas from.
Ark to have automatic weapons to protect the base or colony ?
Yeaaah, more threats and base defense could be nice.
I wooould love to see some version of NPC ground combat.
Though, not sure if HG is trying to keep their game PG.
I didn't even know you could lose frigates - don't think it's ever happened to me yet.
Maybe in an expedition, but never tried. (usually send them out with max fleet before any)
More kinds of Space Battles would be nice. Along with Squadrons and Capital Ships that feel like they actually do stuff against each other.
At the moment, Squadrons are only Semi useful in Permadeath mode, and because they sometimes draw attention from other attacking fighters. But save for that, it's limited as heck.
Yes, during an expedition you can lose them.
So why not NPCs that die or run away?
No Man's Sky Palworld/Pokemon Battles.
Find the most beastly fauna you can find. Make them battle each other.
I'd be up for that. I'm not sure what's HG's stance on NPC death or the like.
Even the derelict ships update, the monsters seemed really .. "muted" ? Tame? Like they're trying to keep everything kid-friendly.
Personally, 'm all for NPC deaths, and more ground combat in general.
Do you forget Artemis?
More terrifying monsters in general would be dope too.
Straight up give me Xenomorphs from Aliens. Abandoned and derelict ships should be scary. The deep-deep ocean should be scary-
Did they die?
In a way we can see? 😄
As far as I know, all of that is offscreen. Nothing animated, or visible to the player.
No, you just find out they're dead 😂
I know you can finish the job , or put them in a simulation. But yeah, when I mean NPC deaths, I mean the run of the mill NPC you run into in the wild
I wanna have a shotout with a Gek Bounty Hunter in some space tavern somewhere.
I wanna' take down a hideout of bandits or something.
I wanna take part in a full-scale planetary invasion.
I wanna see some politics between the races. IDK, I'm spitballing here
But I got noooo idea how they hell they'd be able to animate those things. Ngl, just imagining a Gek being shot to death sounds funny af to try to envision. And I got no idea how it would line up in HG's vision for No Man's Sky
I'm talking about colonies, you get an alert that you're losing NPCs due to an attack (they're dead or they've fled). And you have to go back to secure the colony and try to recruit new NPCs
About deaths, yes, but when the NPC run away you can see them leaving with their ship
I want a super big boss that you can't take down without the best gear or whitout your friends
^^^
Organize a Hunt against a real colossus.
Monster Hunter-level shiz. Like you taking down a Thresher Maw from mass-effect.
Bigger Monsters / Creatures in general feels like the next most obvious thing to work on, or add.
Lines up with the vision, was revealed in the inital trailers, and it should fit with the current generation system.
Heck, giant space monsters too. There's asteroid - larva already.
Let's meet the moma.
Or under the sea.
Nada is a dead body in the Adrift expedition
yeah thats a great idea
Open up the ship trader stocks. Each trader sells almost the exact same goods. Allow different systems and different types of traders to sell different items.
That's kind of out of scope for what's still ultimately a chill exploration game, why not just go play actual Monster Hunter which was designed from the ground up for that kind of gameplay and would almost certainly do it better?
I hope worlds part 2 brings more game play features rather then just as cosmetic.
Main thing is that if we're playing a procedurally generated Space Exploration game , where the premise is seeing creatures and planets that are amazingly bizzarre and otherwardly -
I'd love for more of those creatures to be otherwordly in Size too.
Right now, the only big-big beasts we've seen are the sand worms.. leviathan ships, aaand the odd bug mother. A good start, but shoooot. More giant dinos pls.
A pretty cool thing would be like having a world where almost everything is huge, just a planet of megafauna with some small stuff to simulate a smaller ecosystem within
Big fauna's cool but that's a very separate thing from having big fauna that you're supposed to engage in lengthy Monster Hunter-style fights with.
Some things I’d like to see in future NMS updates:
Caves aways look the same, it’s always “Bulbous fungus” and “That one glowing flower”. It would be cool to see new flora types growing there. The same thing applies to oceans and hazardous flora.
It would also be cool if new generative parts were added to existing fauna types. Imagine seeing a bat with horns, a devil tail, and airplane-like wings, or an antelope with a pterodactyl beak and tentacles where its ears should be. It would also be cool if existing anomalous creatures could get varying forms, (For example, a bubble could spawn with a spiky exterior & ferrofluid in its body, but it could also spawn with a bunch of eyes floating inside it instead). Seeing new forms for existing fauna types would be refreshing to long-time players who enjoy discovering life.
Finally, I’d love to see new building options, such as triangular parts for cuboid rooms, the ability to connect multiple square/cylindrical rooms side-by-side, curved cuboid flooring (For curved cuboid walls), etc. It’d also be cool to see new basic component types (Like leather hut, crystalline, cobblestone, or rusted metal), but I (And almost everyone else) mainly want the return of the original wood, concrete, and metal components.
For decorations, it would be nice to adjust how far a projected wonder is from the projector (As they’re always too far up than I want them to be), and it would also be nice if more decorations (Like the derelict freighter and vintage parts) could be recolored.
Varying forms for the anomalous fauna would be a big improvement. The glitch worlds in general are the biggest culprits for lack of variety (iirc, it's only the capped and... sail worlds that even have much color variety?) :x
Assuming that's the anomalous fauna you meant, like the bubbles and... shard butterfly thing
Day 16 of asking HG to let me ADS with Combat Scope Tech installed
Also, aren't we birthing a whole star system at the end of the Atlas path? It doesn't do anything but like let you unlock a exosuit upgrade and like, that's it.
why don't they ACTUALLY generate a Player owned star system that's customizable by the player? Wouldn't this solve the community owned aspect of exploring the universe?
I wish they would upgrade the jetpack movement maybe have flight that is similar to the game 'anthem' , that or add some other quick fun type of traversal
Add rescue missions to the hostile planets
What is ADS?
Aiming Down the Sights
Aiming mechanic like you often see in first person shooter games
Oh got it, thanks.
The Pilgrim, Roamer and Colossus are in awkward spots, they need new niches. They feel outdated. Pilgrim needs distinguishing from the Nomad.
Add special missions in other galaxies
Second this. The coolest moment for me has been landing on a giant bug world and seeing a bug with a crystalline abdomen that looked like an icy mountain jutting off in the distance.
^ Mooood. Absolutely, the Exocraft need some love. Few things beat a simple well-engineered Jetpack, or just using your ship to "planet-surf" for an objective.
Which I absolutely love, don't get me wrong - do NOT nerf these things lol.
But faster movement speed , more/better upgrades, and more options for the exocraft would be nice tooo.
Some exocraft work better in this middle range between Jetpack and starship, like Pilgrim and Nomad. Pilgrim however is useless on water planets. Meanwhile, both work on land including mountains. Maybe if the Nomad is worse on climbing mountains and the Pilgrim can attach itself to walls and ceilings, it would work? Colossus would work as a mobile base, leaving the roamer.
I want to know how you would all improve exocrafts significantly
i had an idea to create new features to better set a niche, and give exocrafts unlimited upgrades of a specific type
so instead of how we're limited to 3 per tech update right now
you could put like 20 speed upgrades in the pilgrim
but not the roamer or nomad
"The Atlas wishes for me to know what it is like to create. It wishes to share some portion of its being."
Travellers gonna be able to tinker with the matrix themselves? Alter planets to our own design?
I think the planets size should be displayed everywhere and not just in the record things
Also there should be an option to switch to imperial or metric systems instead of this u or ks mumbojumbo
I mean we already use that in animal sizes
For example a strider would say its 4 or 7 meters
so why not planets too
Day 17 of asking HG to let me ADS with Combat Scope Tech
No it's day 17 of posting here, which isn't the same thing
You guys dreaming on, in worlds 2 they just give us more action, corrupted planet's, more challenging fights that's all
OR they can go above and beyond everything we saw to this day.
Something mind exploding like undo button for building. Or something that i cant even dare to speak loudly
autosorting.
Do not expect to much, they have another game to work on, release soon, so all their resources going there
Make certain illegal items legal in some systems
Contraband is legal in outlaw systems tho
What?! That's the worst idea
Anyway, u guys still doing expedition? For living silver?
Or that's just only me ..
More like make specific contraband more profitable in very specific economy type system
What?! We already have this lol
I have 200k quicksilver and bought everything. I dont have anything to spend it on.
No . They are more valuabe in every normal system. Make it more system specific.
Like scientific will pay more for dna samples,
mercantile will pay more for feathers etc.
Still what's the point, probably you have more money you could ever spent
Thats one of games problems. no money sinks.
U can buy slots but thats not exciting enough
Some time ago living frigates costed up to 1 bil.
Yeah that could work, more money sinks
I had this idea for an expedition and I thought it sounded cool so I wanted to put it out there in case anyone is looking for ideas:
An exocraft racing themed expedition. With like a monte carlo/monaco grand prix type of theme. Or Wacky Races/Deathrace 2000 if those are more your speed.
Minotaur race would be more like a grasshoper race.
They were already working on it for years before announcing
Something just hit me
Every expedition as of late seems to in one form or another, tease a feature to be implemeneted in a following update
The hovering utopia speeder was a notable pre-cursor to the interceptors which main feature is hovering when flying near the ground.
The crimsonid and Atlantids were a precursor to autophages being added as a race.
Going off of this pattern. I think the most notable new feature in this isnt the grubs but actually the minotaur.
Mainly the idea of special custom parts for exocrafts that affect appearance, functionality, and stats
We are hot off the heels of massive ship customization system.
It's possible an exocrafts update is next to add more parts and features to exocrafts as a whole.
Might also explain the new planet types coming with the new Stellar metal.
It's possible that we might have to use exocrafts to traverse these planets due to some kind of sci-fi bs where the ship can't fly in orbit and will immediately plummet to the ground landing or float out of orbit.
Hear me out:
What if Worlds pt.1 laid the foundations of water so that one of the other two updates could bring back rivers?
Well it's possible. Light No Fire has real rivers. But rivers would require a complete change in how water regions are determined in the game, so the graphical improvements to water in Part 1 wouldn't really address that
id argue the opposite.
the graphical improvements to water would directly facilitate proper rivers
the main thing with rivers is that it would all be standing water
which would look fine at a distance but completely stupid when interacting with it in any capacity
the water distortion mesh added in worlds would actually work for a river since they could adjust the animation to flow in a direction
now the water region system thing is true, but worlds already has changed a bunch of worlds as is
so i can see them doing another flush for part 2 and setting up this potential new water system
there are rivers in LNF
You'd need to regenerate the terrain to really do rivers
maybe, if they also add water currents that push objects in that direction as well.
but that's a relatively small thing compared to redoing the whole way water zones are determined in NMS. right now it's one global water level per planet, very simplistic. That would need to change. which requires a lot of other considerations.
LNF has rivers presumably because they're not going to allow terrain editing, which would alleviate having to worry about water flow changing as ground around the water is removed. Unless they disable terrain editing in NMS on the speculated new planets in Part 2, that would make it very difficult to implement rivers
Also what do you mean by "bring back" rivers? It never really had them in the first place, outside of like long narrow bodies of water in canyons that looked kind of river like
That would be what I meant, yeah. XD
Oh :B
Where are you seeing that LNF has rivers though?
I might be out of the loop but the trailer seemed like it just had the narrow river-like pools of water in canyons thing? I haven't really been following it closely though!
If it does though LNF being an entirely new world probably gives them more room to do stuff with the terrain since they don't have to worry about invalidating previous saves/bases/whatever
Oh shit, Auto-sorting. I completely forgot about asking that.
Why isn't that a thing yet? 😄
Is it hard coded against it?
Also, a larger FOV slider would be nice. I can't help but feel like my Camera is stuffed up against my Traveller's shoulder for most of it.
Literally, 70% of my screen is taken up by the character's Backapck.
Same happens for exomech, covers most of the fov
The Steam page for LNF says this Set sail across vast oceans and rivers,
No Man's Sky technically has "rivers", its rare to see them as actual rivers because they have to generate at sea level to have water in them
There's not really any indication that LNF will have anything more complex yet
I would advise against taking Steam ad blurbs literally 😛
HG doesn't really do vague overpromising these days, so I feel pretty sure that they weren't just writing out stuff to make it sound cool.
In any case you can go look at the trailer, during that brief combat flash they show a river that doesn't look like any "rivers" in NMS. it has rocks in it that look like typical river bed stuff. Besides, it makes sense that they would not just have one global water level in LNF when the game is set on one planet that is realistically sized.
Anyway this is getting kind of off-topic. That kind of tech could come to NMS, but it would be a big technical lift. But who knows...
Let us alter our Squadron's attack patterns.
Maybe have our whole Squadron focus on one target, or stay in a general area (left of a Pirate Dreadnaught, protecting the civilian Freighter, ect).
Even better if individual pilots could be tweaked to prioritize certain actions. And please let them do more than like 2 damage an hour-
Yeah I’d love to see waterfalls, rivers, floating bases, rideable aquatic companions, more air currents and perhaps moveable floating bases (that ride the currents… I know what a freighter is). I’d even help figure out how to program it if any devs are listening.
Now thats an interesting proposal, that last part
But@mental condor HG doesnt actually look in here as far as we know, the zendesk is where to actually submit ideas to them
Day 18 of asking HG to let me ADS with Combat Scope tech
They’ll lurk this channel and see this one day [coping]
minotar boxing
Rockem sockem exocrafts
Speaking of exocrafts, would love to see some variety in their weapons. Rocket launchers, grenades, melee weapon for the minotaur
Boxing exocrafts with vr arm controls
Would be cool if character types had there own perks and abilities
How would this actually improve the game?
I have a modest request that I have wanted since I started playing on launch. An autosort button for inventories.
That and repair frigates directly from freighter command
Expand the maximum ship limit with frigates since you can technically land on them
This just adds to my idea of you being able to build custom ships
you can land on frigates now?
You can land on frigates you own, it has been an option for a long time now
They have landing pads
(Not living frigates tho)
ok never mind
It would be cool if they made an "aircraft carrier" type of frigate, which could launch fighters to defend your fleet and attack other fleets
they don't?
they don't what?
let you have a squad
yeah you can hire a squadron, but their ships don't really have a physical location
hmm
the squadron is more your personal bodyguards, rather than designed to protect your fleet ships. not that the fleet really needs protecting anyway, your frigates can't be blown up
well that's no fun
your fleet can help during pirate attacks though, if it is nearby
can you let the pirates win?
yes, although it doesn't really impact the player
it would be great if there was a Hardcore mode where your frigates and squadron ships could be blown up. there's not a lot of risk in space battles right now
it would be logical
Wouod be nice if could feed the animals found fauna lie the plants you pick up on the planets instead of only creature pellets
Or if we had hunger levels and had to create food with the stuff from plants and animals
a small tent would be nice, something that can be carried in inventory like the portable refiner and deployed to sit out bad weather. I know lots of people make a huge deal about building bases,, but some of us just are not that ambitious
I would also like to avoid the anomaly. so it would be nice if the things for sale there could be found elsewhere, even if the availability were limited. The anomally just seems like a speedrun walmart
You know you can just sit in your ship during a storm, right?
yeah, but that's if you want to spend the nav data
Not necessarily. Auto launch thrusters. Enough S class mods installed and you can call it anywhere as the thrusters recharge pretty fast.
you can also just dig into the dirt and make a little cave for yourself, that's what I often do when a bad storm comes
if you're not at a landing pad, summoning your ship always requires a nav data
Nope. As long as launch thrusters have enough power, you can call your ship from the quick menu.
Yeah, i keep my nav data in a container and have never had issues summoning my ship
Although there are specific places around buildings that cost a nav data to summon. But you can just walk ten feet and summon it for free
also taking off requires fuel if you're not at a landing pad, so it's either one or the other
Tents do sound like a cool accessory tho. Even if only for rp reasons
Again, modules make this an non issue.
Yeah, I get the appeal. Like a nomatic campsite.
But pragmatically, S class modules + auto launch is the easiest.
being able to buy a building instead of constructing a base from scratch would be fun
Like prefabs?
I think they mean something that can be deployed and packed up. Like the save points and portable refiner.
yes, like any of the Shrek & Donky camps you find walking around, or the trading outpost or minor settlements
Ah lol
since the camps are never occupied,,,
I like to think living quarters are underground and locked down.
?
