Same with a Hardframe Engine. What is there to do with these things after I already have an upgraded Minotaur?
Make the game more dangerous. I love the new bug encounter. More of that please. Maybe some instances. More danger. More more more.
I'd definitely like to see worlds like Pluto... big glaciers, frozen water, ice geysers, etc. All of the current ice worlds basically are more like winter forests
More randomness to the swaying of plants. Trees kinda all sway the same way in the wind.
Well plants and trees generally sway and bend in the direction the wind is blowing so that seems fine to me, unless you're saying that the plants are swaying differently than the wind direction
No, I mean the animations are way too synced up for all the plants in the area. Makes it all look strangely uniform.
Yeah! Like a little jungle with toxic plants and bugs
Donate them to the Mercenaries guild.
I’m absolutely loving the sky islands though one minor thing I’d really appreciate is some improvement with the delineation between interior and exterior when it comes to atmospherics. Since a lot of the islands are in the cloud layer the clouds pass through the interior of the building which makes it impossible to see for stretches of time. Plus having a clear interior with a foggy exterior as the cloud passes by sounds super neat
now that there are sky islands, maybe that opens up the possibility for “landing” in gas giants. Imagine these planets only have floating islands and no actual ground, so it feels like you’re floating inside the gas giant while keeping player movement consistent with every other environment
I dont know what would happen if you fall off an island though
Maybe a very small core of normal terrain you can land on just in case
its probably not gonna be good if you fall off an island @ gas giant
Or don’t even make them able to be landed on and just give them more moons instead to compensate. (I just really want gas giants
)
In VR, the combat scope should be a laser-scope, to show where you're aiming. It would give the combat scope actual functionality in VR
Possibly have the laser taper off after some distance, if we don't want it too OP
Update 5.0 is not yet on Game Pass / MS PC / Xbox (ETA Unknown)

adding catwalks to planetary bases
I really really hope they will someday add different biomes for the same planet, so there's a different fauna/flora at the poles compared to the equator etc.
While waiting for the update/patch, my brain wandered and this is the result. Thoughts?
Regarding Portals and the activation thereof:
Currently as you know, we need to activate each Portal by repeatedly inserting a handful of resources, which many of us feel is an unnecessary step.
If Hello Games intend to keep us activating Portals in some manner, then I propose the following simpler method.
The introduction of 'Portal Crystals' which could be introduced via a global questline. Portal Crystals could also show up occasionally as mission rewards from Nexus, Pirate or Space Station missions, and could stack in 5's or 10's depending upon which inventory we put them into.
Each planetary Portal could need a different Portal Crystal based upon the colour of the star system it's in, and the resources to craft each type would reflect this.

My Wishlist:
- Multi-Passenger Ships: We need walk-in, multi-passenger ships with customizable interiors. This would be amazing to have.
- Multi-Biome Planets: On Earth alone, you can find deserts emptier, frozen wastelands far more barren, jungles a thousand times more dense, mountains higher, rivers wider, glaciers, and so much more than any in No Man's Sky. I want to see a thousand times the diversity and at the same time planets that exhibit this diversity across many biomes and vast lands and fields and deserts, and everything.
- Diverse Space Stations: Every system has either no space stations or one space station. All space stations have the same layout on the inside. I want to see diversity: Multiple space stations in a system for highly populated systems, each with a different design, docking procedure, and internal layout.
- Planets orbiting the suns: Planets should actually orbit their stars. And Space Stations should orbit the planets.
- User-User Ship Trading: Users should be able to sell ships to one another.
- Ship painting: We should be able to repaint our ships.
Real orbiting planets would be cool but it sounds either complicated or demanding depending on how obvious or subtle they’d want to make it. Still though, I’d be mesmerized if I got to see a huge planet slowly creep into the sky while exploring. It’d be even better if they blocked out the sun for a bit.
multi passenger ships seem pointless imo, as it doesnt adds much to the gameplay that freigthers already does
I dont think hello games will bother remake every ship interior for this
But they can be piloted. Freighters can't.
It would be a new ship type.
It would be a very difficult addition, but it would be worth it, in my opinion.
It would bring a whole new realm of gameplay. One person could pilot, another could handle the weapons.
okay but what would it add ? because it could be a rework of the shuttle class ships tbh, but what would be the point of having multiple people in 1 ship ?
One person can pilot, another can control the guns. I'm imagining Star Wars.
I think a space combat overhaul should be done first then, because currently the game would feel rather empty playing this way
Perhaps so. I still think it would be a great addition, albeit difficult from a techincal standpoint.
I wish I could see a white board wishlist that the devs have. Nothing guaranteed, just what they are excited about or think is possible haha. I know Marketing team probably would never let it see the light of day though. No false promises etc. People get so attached to that stuff.
Multi-biome planets would probably require a rework of the current procedural planet generation system. However, as a programmer (and sometimes game developer), I have built a similar system. You first create a height map, water map, and temperature map of the planet based on various factors, then you can adjust your weather system and vegetation generation based on the water levels and temperature. Then animals would be based on that data. This results in a dynamic system without specific biomes that would be far more realistic.
the fact is, currently, ships are a mean of transport, with very basic combat encounters here and there to not feel like universe is empty
we are not in a context of war that would justify such artillery means
while I do agree it would be really cool, I think it doesnt fit in the current gameplay loop and honestly, I would be bored af if I had only the turrets to control
HOWEVER, I could see this as an exocraft, when fighting sentinels
I think multi biome is something we could expect in worlds part 2 tbh, since they are using LNF as a base to improve NMS
Yes, that's what I thought as well. And I really hope that they will use a dynamic system this time.
I want to see planets as diverse as Earth. A hot desert in one place, a frozen wasteland in another, and a dense jungle to explore.
hi expédition 14 is not available on switch now ?
It's not available anywhere now.
we don’t don’t have release date for expedition 14 ?
not at the moment no
We don't know for sure, but probably later this week or next week imo.
When are they releasing the iOS/iPadOS version they promised 2 years ago?😭
I'm still waiting.
Hopefully with Worlds Part 2.
Though I wouldn't count on it.
Sadly
To be honest, I would not mind paying quite a bit for a DLC with for example shit types, multi-biome planets, new chars etc. And I suppose a LOT of people with me.
Will anything be done with Freighers and or Frigates in the future that we know of?
Same but perhaps it's not a money issue but a team size paradox thing. Throwing more money at the problem may not work since hiring more people doesn't necessarily increase speed of content delivery. So they don't charge us because it wouldn't help and then people can feel bad since money is now on the line. I think they have like 50 or less employees if I remember correctly.
I wish more base decorations were added; better yet: a steam workshop for user-made decorations
Do we know what’s being released in part 2? Or have any ideas of it
^ There's a lot of info and speculation there
So after nms worlds it's fine for new starship type with walkable interior
Tf2 style, they could make them all appear in the quicksilver shop every week. As far as I know, kanaju is the only one with fan-made art that made it into the game unchanged
I’ve had this idea for a while, but you know those planetary buildings where you break in and use salvaged data to unlock recipes? Well now that you can do that from the anomaly, I think they should make those buildings instead let you unlock LEGACY base parts (wood, concrete, steel) and I think that you should be able to unlock legacy FREIGHTER parts from the tainted metal merchant. As a builder it sucks that some base parts are just non existent without replacements
Deep ocean planets where there is a pitch black biome at the bottom. The nautilon will be necessary to travel that far down as there can be a new environmental hazard for pressure that will damage your health directly the longer you swim outside your sub. Have there be some very valuable loot to find down there along with giant bioluminescent horrors beyond imagination stalking you from the shadows
Currently, we bring up a galaxy map to select another star system and then use the hyperdrive to travel there. How about instead we place the star systems as points directly in space, and if we use the pulse engine towards one of those points, the hyperdrive automatically activates and takes us to that star system?
Not sure if it's been asked, but will we be able to take on previous expeditions in the future?
Past expeditions are re-run at the end of the year
Oh nice! Guess I have something to look forward too then!
They should add guns and a pilot option for the capital ship
I wish creature AI was more varied. Like have some run in packs, the carnivores attacking other creatures that are part of it's diet, creatures that stalk/ambush prey, ect.
My 3 suggestions for nms:
1: Make all expeditions available at some point when development slows down for the game
2: Dont show unobtainable items in the catalogue because that makes it impossible to complete
3: Remove high clouds they make the game unplayable
Besides that and bugs the games perfect
Would love to see an audio overhaul that matches the visual upgrade of this release.
how exactly do clouds make the game unplayable...
The high clouds are annoying and useless it's also an exaggeration
all around reasonable takes, but the high clouds... huh? strong disagree.
Question on ship building, will the other classes be added in later update? Or will it only be the current 4 that can be customized?
We don't know, solar ships were just added
All of that exists actually and you can see it if you observe creatures, but the animations and AI are just very awkward and it looks bad.
New update made the high clouds actually look good imo
Plus they don't have the weird rendering issues
i've seen all of these happen
Wish the starmap to be revamped
With different sizes of stars at the very least
Clouds of hydrogen, visible black holes, meteorites, comets, etc...
It wouldn't change the game, just give the impression to be inside a real/living galaxy
As a developer I'd think right now: how can we make those 256 galaxies look different from each other?
Visible animal gender visual variations in discoveries. Often i scan one animal but game registers the other variant.
I wish you could sort inventory contents
Add random loot like the weapons and blueprints and have caves or dungeon type places to explore and clear out
Be nice if you could walk around your small ship like no mans sky and have chests in it for loot
Use Quicksilver or nanites to play again an old Expedition to win old rewards or just for fun
For exemple :
- Use 5k or 10k (or more) to activate special expedition
- Choose 1 old Expedition
- Finish Expedition you choose to activate old rewards (if you want)
Is it somehow possible to make those Milestone more challenging? I mean come on there are Millions of planets...hundreds for Words, billions of cash you make but most of the milestones can already be achieved max in a few hours....thats so lame
Add more customization options for exocrafts. Why does Minotaur get all the love?
Allow us to repaint ships.
I AGREE!!! I always use the nomad and it never gets customization beyond the painting that is standard for all exocraft, while the Minotaur is over here getting total visual overhauls!
This is just my guess, but perhaps their analytics tell them that very few people use the exocrafts, so it may not be worth the dev time. Now if you could jump waves using the Nomad, everyone would be using that thing 🤠
Didn't they slow every exocraft down when they added the minotaur or something?
Mm I'm not sure. Nomad is still a lot faster than the Minotaur
Might've reverted it. Or I misremembered it
It felt like when they added it, all my exocrafts got slower
I think caves and oceans should have their own unique biomes.
i wonder if they ever update the old base parts to work with current system
They should update squadrons. They are completely pointless.
they do draw fire and can stop enemy shields from regening
i've had a squadron member finish off a low hp ship while i was overheated too
but yeah they should be buffed big time
They should make it so we can give them money and nanites and tell them to search for specific classes of upgrades. They come back after some time and bring back 1 to 3 upgrade modules and you can designate whether they can install them to their own ship or give them to you.
I also think they should be able to travel with you on foot
space combat is already really easy, don't think they need a further buff....
They could at least make my squadron not be directly in my line of fire like 80% of the time
true the AI could be improved
It'd also be cool if freighters actually moved around. It'd just look cool.
i don't think they're fine as is either
they should feel more helpful
at least if you're playing on space combat set to hostile
Also since they've been adding more boss battles/boss health bars, I think they should add another kind of boss. One that takes you from planet to planet or just from the planet out into space. Don't know what it should look like but it'd be pretty cool to chase the thing down.
I think what would help is if enemy ships and your squadron ships fought their own battles. The problem right now is that all enemy ships only target you, and squadron ships tend to only attack who you're currently targeting. It could feel a lot more "Star Wars space battle" if targeting was more intelligently spread out
In fact I should probably send HG a zendesk suggestion about that
I think that something that would boost No Mans a lot is adding Multiplayer to switch what do you guys think?
It wasn't added because switch can't really handle it
That true
freighters having weapons and fighting other freighters would be cool
Agreed
Let me actually use the gun rack item to store multitools. In fact, let us build our own shipyards to house more than 12 ships at once. The 12 limit can stay for freighters, those being the ones you can summon but the ones in your shipyard you have to actually physically go get them.
Park it in your freighter and it'll replace the ship you went to pick it up with.
Also like, a pen for pets too?
I'd love to make a walk in garage with different ships that I've collected or built. Also, allow us to scan other players' ships please. It's strange that we can't already.
Also fix the pirate freighters lights clipping through planet atmospheres.
some sort of procedural story-like quest for each system. This would add much more content and depth to systems. Im thinking around 30min to an hour long quests
I want a garage for both ships and exocraft
It shouldn't be hard to do for exocraft though - just need a big garage door wall module
They should also take a lot of the flavor text from scanning things and see what they can actually make into real things that occur.
Is it just me or is the HDR really low contrast
Like low contrast yet things like the night or shadows aren’t actually dark or highlights aren’t really that bright aka little to no gains for what is lacking there
They should add light pollution on planets where there’s light sources during the night time on the planet close to the ground, it’ll effect how vibrant the stars in the sky are. And also if you’re around base lights too, it’ll do the same thing
More drug production methods.
Im serious.
There are quite a few illicit substances in the game that are only available to buy and not produce
nipnip is one of the few we can, but what about GrahGrah, or blood salt?
Unironically drugs when producing in bulk can be extremely profitable in game. Mainly NipNip. Ways of further refining illicit substances and selling them for higher amounts in both outlaw space and especially legal space would be kinda cool
right now its generic, but like what if similar to cooking you can create a better "product" and sell that for more than the lower quality outlaw product.
Yes i am seriously suggesting an outer space meth lab update.
or like... nipnip strains
some kind of gigantic walker mech (think AT-AT from star wars) to work as a mobile land base (freighter, but on land)
freighters kinda make regular bases on the ground kinda meaningless imo aside from having somewhere to put your exocraft launch bays, so this could work as a land-based variant of the freighter, with a garage where you can put your exocraft launch bays and summoning station, with the bonus that you can spawn and launch any of your exocraft from that mobile base
it could be a multiplayer thing too, like one person drives, another can scan, mark stuff, and scan for specific structures if a radar is installed, and another 1 or 2 players could control a turret or 2 mounted on the top or sides
Man wants to become the Walter White of No Man's Sky. /j
I'm really confused to not see that much discussion about inventory management still being limited like hell. The new update looks really good but I can't go in one system without filling either my ship or backpack inventory, manually sort/stack stuff to get some more space and still fill it again all in 15min.
The changes to stack size helped, and adding slots to the inventory helps too, but it just delays the inevitable. I'm going to take other games as examples. In Minecraft you can technically have 1647 slots/different items you can put in your inventory by filling it with shulker boxes, an ender chest with shulker boxes and a pickaxe to pick those up. It is tedious, but you're never going to get close to needing that amount of space while exploring, even less when you're not and are at your base, considering the game now has around 1200 items, a good half of them you'll never need and 3/5 stackable.
In No Man's Sky, you have 3 expandable inventories, and can have 9 more limited one per base/freighter, which you can sometimes not access if you're too far. Despite 3 inventories being upgradable, in total it is near the same amount of slots as MC but with a ton more items possible to obtain, more than half of them with limited stack size. That amount of slot ends up making you not know what you have, what you're missing, what you need and what you don't need.
So what could help? Well to start a search feature across inventories telling you the total amount you have of an item in all containers (and if theyre accessible) and giving you an option to move everything in the same spot. A favoriting option, allowing you to lock an item and its amount in the inventory its in, allowing you to move/sell surplus without fear of not keeping enough on you to survive. A sorting option, letting you reorganise each container on different criterias to help with organization in each inventory. A stack all option to deposit items in one inventory to containers that got those items
I went out of character spaces but I was pretty much done anyways, I know everything is easier said than done but I really which I could enjoy the game and not hyperfocus on sorting my inventory a 3/4 of the time, I'll check the Zendesk just to be sure
Add more dangerous creatures under or above the sea.
Add a boat for cruising with your friends. And the boat moves with everyone on board. And you can defend your boat against underwater creatures that attack you. Like pirate attacks but on the sea with sea creatures.
great idea but idk how it would be implemented
tbf we have a sub
tho there should be multiple slots on it
with all vvehicles i thinlk
Does anyone know how many parts the Worlds update have???
At least 1
I'd say 2 or 3. We don't know for sure.
3 is probably a good bet.
Are they going to add flight stick compatibly for ship?
We want that.
Im just hoping for an aggressive sentient race. One like the bug costumizations we found.
Im hoping the simulation kicks back to life fully, with even more races and a real in game economy where you can raid valuable trade convoys for example rather than the passing freighter.
Or just give me a Captain Ahab type mission/expedition where I hunt a living dreadnought/freighter.
give us capital-vs-capital battles ingame, and the ability to customize our capital ships to that end (please)
freighters would now just be a single type of capital ship you can get, with there consisting of freighters, dreadnoughts, and supercarriers
freighters have minimal weapons but get a bonus increase in tech and cargo slots, and can get a capital-grade emergency warp engine
dreadnoughts (like the pirate dreadnought ingame atm) would get a bonus to ship-mounted weapons, and the ability to mount a spinal weapon
supercarriers get a lot more hanger/squadron slots u can buy, has decreased nanite prices for unlocking more hanger/squadron slots, and a slight boost to shield power
you can make, buy, and find different weapons to equip on your capital ships, all weapons would be vaguely based off of the weapons you can put on your multi-tools, and there would be 3 classes: capital-grade, all-rounder, and point defense
capital-grade weaponry are large cannons, like the anti-freighter continuous beam weapons currently on the pirate dreadnought. each capital ship can have some, but dreadnoughts get the most at 4 to 5. these would be (in vague and broad terms): railguns, continuous laser cannons, nuclear/anti-capital (renamed anti-freighter) missile launchers, and superlasers, which ingame would functionally work the same as a railgun, but they are a laser (charge up, then big kaboom)
all-rounder weapons do everything. they shoot at everything, thanks to their dual-purpose functionality (which could be toggleable from anti-ship to anti-spacecraft, perhaps), decent damage output, and decent fire rate
point-defense weapons are anti spacecraft guns. turreted miniguns, flak repeater cannons, swarm missile launchers and so on
spinal weapons are colossal weapons built into your ship, that require your capital to physically turn and aim it at the enemy capital to use
you can still only have one capital ship, though you now have a lot more ways to upgrade it and such
adding onto the weapons part of this a bit, a few weapon tier types
there would be the green - blue - purple - yellow system we currently have for modules, but there would also be some special tiers:
military-grade (above average weapons intended for use on military ships, primarily stuff like cannons and missile launchers, not as good as the autophage-crafted, sentinel-forged, ancient, or experimental weapons)
autophage-crafted (atlantideum-based autophage-themed weapons, primarily neutron cannon and pulse spitter-type weapons)
sentinel-forged (black and red color scheme & design scheme, priamrily laser weapons like the blaze javelin, and continuous beam weapons)
ancient (old and broken-down designs, but a lot stronger than they look, usually rarer and more archaic weapons like rapid-fire cannons, scatter blasters, and boltcasters)
experimental (odd and very unique weapons, stuff like nuclear missiles, fast-acting rusting missiles made with oyxgen, shield-penetrating ion missiles made from ionised cobalt, railguns with extreme range, and so on)

You can submit bug reports, suggestions or feedback to Hello Games here: https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Don't forget HG is always open to feedback and suggestions
i thought this WAS the suggestions channel
guh mb
it's a channel for some suggestions and discussions with other members.
For serious well thought out suggestions its best to use Zen desk.
I'm not saying this isn't allowed 😄
Im just giving you a better vessel for it
More POI(points of interest) would be cool in No Man's Sky
However the draw distance is really bad for that
has anyone ever talked about the addition of piloting Freighters?
yes
have HG said whether or not its a possible thing in the future or is it something they wont do?
Is that even physically possible to implement
I still wish that there was some form of progression as you get towards the center of the galaxy
Like some sort of option at least to scale up the difficulty as you get closer to the center
I would love better waypoint management in the future. Dropping a pin on a discovered world would make Flying there so much easier. And more logical of you ask me. Same thing for dropping a pin on my processors.
Also the ability to select waypoints in a way. So you can select that to warp too instead of automatically fly to another mission/station marker.
First of all, wow, the Worlds part 1 update is stunning in so many ways! A totally new experience (I can't stop shooting screenshots during my playthroughs). I guess more people mentioned this before but especially with this new update I really would like to see some physics improvement around your character in interaction with the environment. Now that we've got waves and more impressive storms I really would like to 'suffer' a bit more with extreme weather. What if your character would physically struggle entering a sandstorm or getting moved around in a wild sea with high waves so you get disoriented and need to struggle to survive? Badass weather would feel really dangerous! Getting in water bodies (also calm ones) would be even more immersive if there was a bit of a 'natural resistance' which will slow you down a little bit and create waves around you. Also the cape physics look unnatural to me and it would be great if the new wind system would interact with the character's physics too (if you look at Manor Lords for example, the capes move in a very natural way). If Hello Games improves these things, this would be the cherry on the already gigantic sweet cake NMS has become!
One simple thing.
Biomes on planets.
Not just one biome.
Everywhere on said planet rn is the same and the will to explore is just not there
I don’t think Sean wants multi biome planets
X class ships that are anomalous would be cool.
Many floating impossible parts and configurations, with distinctly curved and rounded features to offset the geometric and blocky ship designs that are usually seen.
We see alot of anomalous animals and planets, but no ships like that.
There is enough space for sub-biomes. I'm concerned people think "multi-biome" means planet biomes, which would detract from rather than add to it.
I d love to have more weapon variety for starship
and especially for LS
i agree we need more hostile races
and this could have a lore reason too
the atlas kicks into overdrive, creating new races and helping previously undiscovered creatures appear. It is all in an attempt to prolong its lifespan
or maybe differant subspecies of already existing races, like a more feathery and thinner version of the Gek with their own dialect that shares some words with the gek
Imagine engaging in freighter to freighter battles yourself to liberate a system.
yeah
it would be awesome to have a sort of hostile race that focuses on biotech
so it can be a mix of humanoids and biological horror type creatures
If the autophage exist from being a traveler alternate appearance I don't see why many of the races already there can't be expanded.
Especially if they add new planet types like 100% water planets.
Add those shark guys, who only exist there.
I would love if they actually did habitats in space where aliens live
and maybe you can buy one and it functions like an easier to manage settlement
Gas planets could have invisible cities that live in orbit. Made up of some of the aliens with more abstract bodies such as those tree guys or lightning brain dudes.
Same principle as the autophage, theyve always existed under the nose of the 3 great empires.
The best way to thrive in a system where all 3 are functionally in a stalemate dominating the entire universe is to stay out of sight.
Gas planets and water planets would be a great opportunity in particular for massive complex structures like cities because the game doesn't have to render geometry for those planets. It just needs to be the atmospheric or under water effects with more resources going towards these cities.
Npcs only existing at set structures with no randomly generated terrain also simplifies path finding meaning you could have more people moving about.
It also helps minimize the problems with less access for language and reputation since theyd be rarer compared to the normal races.
More people means more opportunities to learn words and say or do things that increase rep
thats a good idea
or imagine some sort of pre-ftl civilization
like hunter gatherer aliens that are like the protogeks
Maybe those chameleon looking dudes
yeah and they can be rare and have differant behaviors
Still the idea is worthwhile because people want gas giants despite there not really being a point.
So they should insert a good point for everyone to go there so it's not just an addition that's mostly cosmetic.
Same for water planets.
yeah
but people might get confused as to why there are no islands or may not have aqua jets
The npcs on the anomaly are travelers, who all look different/are one of a kind. They are not full alien races like the gek, korvax, etc
To be fair they could just list it as a "water planet" and most people would get the jist.
My idea personally would be to make it so the nautilon needs new tech tuned to the aquatic races to find their hidden under water cities.
As for swimming it would basically have a damage plane at some point where the player starts taking damage due to crushing water depths.
The nautilon will also refuse to go down a certain point for similar reasons.
Venomous animals might be a cool addition to combat with them. Maybe even use the other hazards with them (like how subnautica has a fish that shoots a chemical that freezes the player)
On that note, the devs could get even more creative with creature combat. Maybe have some creatures release chemicals as a defensive reaction for peaceful creatures. Maybe have some ranged attacks for the aggressive ones?
I found out after replaying NMS that the Atlas path is the more fun way to play NMS and doing Artemis quests is why people think the games boring.
Atlas sent me from system to sytem providing me with free warp cells, forcing me do different mini quests to progress. Meanwhile i get to defent freighters, explore planets and fight of pirates.
Meanwhile the Artemis quests just moves me in a circle to build a base on a planet that I dont even like that much because i having found a good one yet.
The point is everyone wants a Jupiter, plus imagine your own settlement like giant gas extracting station
At launch people used to complain that there was no compelling story with characters so they put that in. Probably the Artemis story should have been tied to different mission objectives than what they went with, or at least started the questline a bit later in player progress
Exactly, base building shouldnt be the focus on the starting missions, but exploring and fighting first.
NMS is kind of this odd conglomerate of what everyone wanted from it over the years.
Honestly an update to smooth it all out would be nice.
Think about all the different quest lines just to introduce the latest mechanic, despite those questlines being semi story relevant.
Revamping the story to introduce these ideas more naturally would help.
Especially since NMS seems to be gearing up for a big shift in lore. With LNF on the horizon as well.
Let me put it like this
With how prominent the void mother, the world of glass, and what's in the water are to where the lore is going rn.
It's all side content that you go out of your way to do. Completely separate from the "main plot"
i agree i wish all the info about this anomalous "VoId" would start affecting greater parts of the story and universe itself. like the living ships, the autophage, atlantium all of those parts and their sub plots tell a story about a once prevalent force that was hidden away by the atlas slowly coming back to the galaxies (id also like more biotech so any excuse to get a shit ton more of that in the game im happy to have)
the thing is, it kinda is.
The problem is, its listed in the same category as the nautilon quest which is basically just a fancy tutorial on the submarine
Agricultural research and A Trace of Metal are the same type of mission to the game right now
I think its legitimately a critical flaw with the story telling in this game. Anything that isnt basically act 1 of this very clearly over-arching plot is considered fluff content by the game, even if its actually super important
and yeah Atlas/Artemis path is act 1
its very clear this Autophage and the rise of the void mother is act 2, but most people don't realize that the water is trying to kill you because the game is treating it like gwent in the witcher 3
i legitimately think the story could use a rework to press importance onto Under a Rebel Star, A Trace of Metal, and They who Returned
like a combination of all of them into a greater second half of the narrative, artemis was our intro into this universe and an understanding that its under the rule of a machine god slowly dying- maybe instead of collapsing in despair of the inevitability of it all we try to be actionable and make the best of what we have, that is until information of something going down that might be the cause of the atlas's malfunction comes to our attention and we investigate maybe even leading us to finding apollo finally
and even the void mother- whatever it is makes its presence known in a huge way during the story
make visible changes in space stations that show whether its economy is tier 1 2 or 3
i think that would be cool
alot of decorations in tier 3 to show that its luxurious
idk
I was thinking and it would be cool if like
The resource hotspot system got a soft revamp
Like being able to set up automated selling facilities..or hook silos up to refiners to create an auto refinery
Maybe hook Silo's up to launch pads that could funnel resources into ships to transport resources..idk it's certainly a concept
I always thought it would be cool if we could set up automated trading at bases, so when traders land on our landing pads they could buy trade resources based on criteria we set up.
Ya something like that would be awesome
I want deep oceans in nms.
Dont we all
Subnautica at home:
Pretty sure they might be coming if new leaks are to be believed
Probably worlds part 2
That wouldn't work unless planets actually rotated
By tidally locked I mean no day and night cycling
One side is dark and cold
The other is warm and light
Yeah but that wouldn't work since the day night cycle isn't specific to one planet
The entire skybox rotates, that's why every planet has the same day length
Then just make the skybox not rotate for the tidally locked planet?
I saw a guy in reddit saying that forest are less dense than before worlds 1? Can someone confirm it?
It's a system wide skybox
Didn't anyone noticed changes in forest density?
Then they could rework the skybox system
To make it compatible with a tidally locked planet!
I guess but it's probably pretty deeply rooted at this point
I don't work at HG so I have no idea how difficult that would be
Yeah. I just want some planets that follow different rules
Does the no atmosphere planets have a day and night cycle?
A visible one?
I wouldn't say that there even exists any forests in nms
They always felt thin
To me atleast
Yeah
Forest density was always low
But I saw some people saying that is even less now
After the world's 1
Can someone confirm it?
In some cases yes but other times I've seen quite dense forests
I think due to the completely overhauled world gen the density is largely the same whenever they do spawn they've just
Lowered the spawn rate
There's more variety with density rn I think
Some of the newer biomes have pretty dense clusters of trees
On the other hand I think corrupted planets are way too dense
I've just been super impressed with how they've improved their use of filters since next
Come to think of it, I think the sin city filter is gone for good now
My favourite one is the filter that turns everything yellow
Reminds me of project wingman (if ykyk)
Oh, the one that looks almost like a fog?
In a sense, I'll ping you in media with an example of what I mean since I don't have image perms here
They lowered the spawn of dense planets so they are more rare now?
No they lowered the Spawns of dense forests
I imagine
Could be a placebo effect based on new world gen
But it's from what I've experienced personally
But they are still Forest as dense as before but just more rare?
Ya
I still didn't played that's why I was curious, thanks :3
New world gen pretty sick
Favourite part is definitely new world gen for Nuclear worlds
From the screenshots I have seen looks like the colours are more vibrant
Is that right?
I saw a few screenshots of it
I really wanna see the new worlds
Did you liked the new frozen planets?
From what I have seen the flora now has more colours
Also the blue filter was removed
I really hated that filter
Haven't noticed much change in them, would be cool to see like... Volumetric??? Snow..like seeing your character wade through deep snow
Yeah it would be nice
I think worlds part 2 will maybe overhaul the old biomes
Or add new procgen in the upcoming purple systems
Probably the purple systems will be in the realm of glass
I'm hyped for purple systems
Yeah me too
Revamped worlds are cool but I need a completely new playground to explore
Probably they will do it with the world of glass
Maybe they will add more systems or convert old ones into purple
I think they will have new procgen
There are a lot of new assets in the leak
Like ruins
Probably for the new planets
I definitely want more to do with Autophage, worlds part 2 could defos be a big update for both exploration and Autophage arc
Yeah I think it will be the final part of the void lore
I saw some people saying it will have 3 parts
But I think it will just be 2 parts
Part 2 is coming before summer ends
So probably will drop in September
As much as NMS is an exploration game I wish they would revamp Freighter combat. Like have your freigjters and frigates play a more active role in combat, that's not just 1 scenario when you get jumped by enemies
Introduce massive pitched Freighter V Freighter battles that's not Fighter V Freighter
It would really be cool if they added freigther battles, piloting freights would be awesome
But I don't know if will happen
Soon light no fire will launch
So I think NMS updates may be coming to an end
They will probably shift attention to the new game
But I think that we still have at least till next year
Shift attention to the game they have already been developing for 5 years? They can do both 🙂
It would be Nice if you have to start an Spaceship Engine before you can Lift Off.
While not impossible it's likely that both games are intentionally built on the same engine so development resources can be shared.
Basically mechanics developed for one game can be backported or forward ported to the other game
I don't expect NMS updates to last forever, and I do expect LNF to likely outlast NMS in terms of support.
Unless LNF sucks ass, but I'd hope they would have learned to only release when it's actually ready.
Is this true or speculation?
I'm personally hoping for something that makes settlements and NPC inreraction more meaningful.
Receiving quests from NPCs, having various vendors in settlements, through which you can unlock blueprints for new stuff or just get direct access to items. Be able to recruit NPCs and make a crew, maybe have them also recruit you and have you help them. Have like a town board with takss that you.need to complete which would help upgrafe the settlement. Be able to build relationships with NPCs (not meant as romance) which would improve your reputation with the settlement and the race itself.
True, I'm hoping for more buildings, settlements, maybe even cities
Idk if any of this is part of the game already, I am completely new to NMS, just watched a few vids, loved the game and bought it :3
Cities as well yeah, or just the ability to turn those settlements into cities. That would be even cooler and would also allow to pre-place cities on planets
Yup this would make the planets feel more alive
Exactly. I think this is really the only thing I am personally missing in NMS.
If they add that, it would also bring a LOT more people in
Maybe even some more in-depth economics between races and also conflicts between them.
This would be the icing on the cake
Now that would be amazing
Plus NMS already has a very good base building mechanic. If they can transfer that into cities that would be phenomenal. Yeah I feel like the economies don't mean much. Also high conflict systems that are at war are identical to other systems. I want to see an actual war taking place.
I think they have the resources and tech to pull this off
or at least maybe more populated planets with more (and bigger) settlement
Correct. All of that would be nice
I'm hopeful about it cause of the data mined suff abour NPC pathing comiing potentially in Worlds Pt. 2. But I'm coping hard xD
I haven't seen any leaks. I should go check them out
That's still cool though
Imagine the NMS community building up an entire planet with cities
My three big hopes are settlements expansions/city building, online being fixed/being able to host bigger parties, more indepth economy/conflict within planets.
Literally same, without online cause I am a complete beginner at the game.
yeah having multiplayer be more sophisticated would be great
That would be soo much fun. Imagine a group of 10+ people all exploring finding planets, building bases or even doing expeditions together and helping eachother out. I feel like all 3 of these things will immortalize No Man's Sky. Even if Light No Fire comes out there will always be a reason to play No Man's Sky. I mean there will always be a reason to play this game the way it is now but even more so.
Guilds would be a big feature for the game especially big groups that claimed portions of the universe like the galactic hub
I guess less so guilds and more so custom factions.
Since guilds tend to have a player limit and a officer structure while a faction is less defined.
That makes a lot of sense since factions already exist in the base game
It also means planets and such are claimed under a faction.
All the guild aspects of a faction can be handled community side where there's less ways to abuse it.
Maybe differant corporations or factions within the trade federation? Like a group that are experts at experimental starships
That would also be so cool. But I think people might not be happy since this turns the whole game into an MMO in a way, which a lot of people don't have time for.
I don't think that would solely turn the game into an MMO. It would be something you have the option to engage with.
Yeah if it's made so it's not like an aspect that is really needed, that can balance it.
I think they need to be careful to not make something so mandatory that you NEED to spend an X amount of time in the game. A good portion of the player base might not like it since the game is a sort of chill and lets you relax. All those thing should be just other activities that you can do.
The last update made all water crystal clear and you can see the bottom absolutely anywhere. Some bases benefit from the lack of light. Each planet with water should have different levels of clarity and light penetration of said water. Some planets should even require you to use a light.
It pretty much be a social feature no different than how discovery is usually done.
All that it would mean is that if a solar system and planet is discovered by a player under a specific faction, those discoveries would then be marked as "[faction name] territory"
Maybe on the galaxy map you could toggle on a sort of thing where if a ton of systems are claimed by a singular faction, it's all grouped in a sort of bubble surrounding the area.
As the faction territory.
Hard to express what I mean without a visual aid.
That's a way to do it yeah. As long as it does not restrict players in any way I think it's an awesome idea.
Let's hope Sean sees our prayers over here 😭😭
It basically just be for groups who want to get together and make a space theirs in a more official capacity.
Also one small feature I would like them to add is making you have to cook and eat for survival/permadeath mode. Would add to the immersion
Adding hunger to those modes
Do you think they will bring more types of walls etc. In the future ?
I just want a higher build limit and the ability to set how many base parts you want rendered at one time.
Or the ability to make ultra big Floor tiles so we can make larger floors with less objects.
Would solve a ton of performance problems since I'm pretty certain the lag comes from rendering so many different objects rather than the objects themselves.
Like... 1000 pieces of floor were considered one object. I'm pretty sure there would be much less lag than 100 floor tile object.
I just scale glitch certain floors and walls to get around lag, an official solution would be nice
I would like Refiners on Space Stations
For bases I'd like something more modest -- be able to see the weather effects through windows when inside of a base
Related, I'd also love to see raindrops on spaceship windshields, like we can see in racing games like Gran Turismo 7 or Driveclub
I'm sure that's not an easy technical challenge though
How's that work?
Watch beeblebums glitch building guide for full details, but the gist of it is giving the stats of a scaleable part to an un-scalable part, it’s a little complicated so I can’t really explain it in text
more base parts themed around each factions prefab PoI's would be nice, even just more props
How about adding an actual trading system between players? Like ships, parts everything. Have a trade interface where you need to at least input something in order to trade, even if its just 1 unit.
When will fishing be in no man’s sky?
why would it be
and if u got fishing it would just be a very poorly implemented feature
Why
Every respectable game must have a fishing minigame /s
You don't even begin to know how much this thing in particular bothers me. NEVER ADDED.
Ive put in a bug report every update since waypoint that this wasn't added.
or if it was, its not working
I've honestly not really seen much color variation. The old frozen biomes aren't changed at all, and the new ones either use the totally ice colored trees or MAYBE alternate between green and pinkish foliage.
Also there's no color variation in like, the rocks/ground textures.
They said it will release before summer ends
broodling race pls, we already got it with the constructs after that expedition, so why not the brodlings? maybe indeviduals that broke from the brood one way or the other?
Which part.. the package part or the trading?
Nvm, I read up further
Why no leg piece for the chitin armor? All the other leg options just look wrong imo. Add chitin leg armor
well they've never had a specific trading function but you can give technologies to people near you and they can give things in return. thats how i always traded for things
well there are chitin feet ig
i just wish i could have a more strange looking character like a blob creature or just interesting features depending on what race you pick like gek gives you better discounts in trades korvax gives your more supercharged slots vykeen allows for more cargo slots in general but allows more weapon upgrades to stack
and autophage can... add tech onto themselves? like how the living ships need different ingredients to charge things its the same for the autophage to repair any damage
idk
just wish the stuff i put on wasnt just flavor text essentially and actually mattered to how i play the game
You're not actually changing what species you're playing, you're a traveller even if you choose to appear as a gek etc
im aware
plz larger lobbies, I have 6 friends that all want to play together
ive never been able to give other players repackaged technology.
Discovery-related prefabs that get installed when someone uploads a discovery would be pretty cool to give previously-found areas a "someone has been here" feel.
a guest-book item that isn't the current state of comm ball would be nice too
- Ability to warp to different systems in first person mode (like when han and chewie sat in their cockpit watching the starts fly by)
also the possability to (beam down) like in StarTrek maybe only if your freighter was summoned from the ground on a planet as it's much closer to the planet than when deployed in space
and maybe scopes - for zooming on on far away targets wether it be to fight hostiles or mine far away nodes of ore/element
mining drones that gather resources from planets during expedition.
being able to fly the freighter throughout the system.
able to make bigger changes to a system like taking over a system for either a particular race or pirate faction
... no, right on time, if you ask me. We just got one
Not for terrain. Are you being serious ?
yeah planet generation was just updated
yeah and terrain
Planet gen was updated but terrain is still the same. The weather and waves were updated
define terrain?
earth, ground, dirt
i think our idea of terrain and yours are different
I go to every planet and the terrain is monotonous and repetitive
we are refering to the generation by planets, which has been updated, its why we get floating islands now
I'm talking about mountains , canyons , ravines
Variety
I'm talking about dynamic terrain events
Landslides
Earthquakes
Etc
sand worms cause earthquakes
They do? Because if they did, it was too small for me to notice
do you have camera shaking turned off or something?
Nope
ive personally seen it so i don't quite know what to say there
i mean yeah im fine with it, its going to be updated again with worlds part 2.
we got floating islands now, nice looking water, and a refresh of all the planet's biomes with some new ones
I'm with you on the update. I just want them to put more effort into it.
I wouldn't be complaining if it wasn't as remotely good
I never implied something of that sort.
They could shift priorities
i mean... "i want them to put more effort" sounds like that
regardless, this discussion has extended into an argument and isnt for this channel
If you want to continue this discussion take it to #no-mans-sky
This is the appropriate channel for this afaik
alright then.
I'm not into arguments. Just plain old discussions
Let's agree to disagree and call it a day.
alright
We can have more fulfilling discussions on other aspects
New terrain gen isn't perfect but they can't really change it outside of maybe in the purple systems
i mean they have
I hope those purple systems have crazy stuff going on
this is what worlds part 1, and presumably part 2 is going to be
Why would that be a problem? In order not to erode bases?
they have changed it, thats not a valid counter point
Yeah. It's a core gameplay element so it's basically bricking people's worlds
Worlds part 1 is a shift in priorities towards land generation
My hope for part 2 is a shift in priorities to alter more parts of the procedural gen algorithm. Make it as humane as possible.
humane?
Literally, all they need to do is allow people to save their bases (one at a time perhaps) as long as they can find their base computer and then paste it somewhere else. Then go wild on terrain generation
i dont see how that applies?
Not the terrain. They added new planets in origins which added new terrain, but there were 0 terrain style changes in worlds part 1
Worlds look so monotonous
... the floating islands?
Those are solid assets like rocks and trees, they're not actual terrain and there's five or 6 models give or take
It's just my opinion...but I think nothing significant has been done on land and mountain gen
also ontop of new planets, old planets were refreshed with new biomes and terrain
Heck, not even all of them are 'solid'
There was 0 new terrain. The generation method was optimised but no new terrain was added
what would you want in new terrain?
You put it better into words what I was thinking
Air exposed cave systems would be interesting
as for new generation, if they've optimized the generation method, chances are part 2 will be overhauling it
It's unrealistic to expect so much from a game studio that has given its all and more....so we can hope
I'm super happy with worlds ngl. I do think that if purple worlds get new terrain, a good way to go would be to make it regionally more different
this update is split into 2 parts for a good reason if you ask me
i think its better this way. GTA devs figured this out too
Yeah, I love the new update but I hope they update caves because they really need to. They're completely neglected.
im willing to bet generation is being overhauled in part 2 which is why water was focused on first
What are the things they must be working on in Part 2? Assuming they don't add onto features already updated in Part 1
It was to increase draw distance iirc. There's a possibility of new terrain but that would be limited to purple systems
adding onto features already in part 1
its very clear this updates focus is on world generation
In #nms-spoilers there's a decent amount of semi confirmed stuff for part 2
water got the lions share of adjustments but there is more to it than that, and im willing to bet this is foundational work to a larger overhaul to terrain generation, which is why the update was split into parts
it would have to as is, because the new element
the chromatic one i mean
That was what I was thinking about too. Nice to see you on the same page.
they have to redo alot of indium systems to allow for this purple element to generate
I think besides terrain, they need to also add more parts into the procedural generation for animals. I see the same deer creature every 3 planets I visit
most likely they are doing the deformation mesh so they can add faux-rivers
Could a handcrafted planet be too much to ask? Or a system? At the center of the galaxy?
the water isnt actually "flowing" since that would be taxing on physics systems for no reason, so rivers might instead just have a property where they will appear to "flow" on the surface
people shat on them for doing that. they aren't touching that with a ten foot pole
Deformation mesh?
water is given a deformation mesh, this lets the water actually ripple how it does by adjusting this mesh
Oh yeah that
its made to fold and stretch without breaking
I tried finding signs of disaster level weather events with no luck. Tsunamis in particular
i think they've avoided adding destructive events because of bases
wouldn't it be really annoying for your base to randomly get burried in dirt or flooded out?
as for that in general, the leaks datamined is not the whole of the update. so it may not have been left behind for dataminers to find rather than not being present at all
I'm not so sure that the water meshes would actually be able to flow like a river
Definitely for a massive base built over many months. But you wouldn't build something like that on such a planet
An animated mesh and fluid physics are super different
you'd just need to change the animation so it appears like its flowing rather than rippling like waves
and yes fluid physics would be way too taxing for no reason
Can agree with that. Too much of a hassle
the water wouldn't actually flow, it would just appear that way
you couldn't possibly expect that on a technical level with random generation. unless it were to implement a voxel system
We need more derelict freighter experiences but on the ground, underground and underwater
The engine also can't detect the height of specific terrain pieces, apparently
im a bit confused on what you mean by that
Sean mentioned it a while ago iirc
like it cant tell how high a mountain is?
I was gonna say we need a cave system and more work on underground. But that will come in a later update too I guess.
its likely it will be updated
though im not really sure what people would want out of caves
I've mentioned it a while ago how sufficiently large caves and oceans should have their own biomes as well.
i guess they could put more ore mining spots underground
Like altitude data is something it can work out, but getting the altitude of a specific voxel is something it can't really do, at least that's my understanding. It's because all the individual voxels in the terrain exist independant of each other
Or something to that effect, iirc
No. u can only check highest peak in vonders.
oh so the engine just checks the points between when generating height
I don't think we'll be seeing that in NMS atleast. LNF is all about 1 world , 1000 biomes.
up for interpritation really
if they can do that for LNF then they could implement it in a more limited manner for NMS
2-3 associated biomes per a world type compared to how LNF does it
Anyone played SC here? What's the world gen like over there.
If they can put it into LNF it is possible that they could. Not gonna get my hopes up though. An update to caves and oceans still needs to happen regardless of the biomes idea.
LNF appears to be generating rivers but they do look flat. I have a feeling that they're just designing a terrain shape and some pebble textures etc for it
It's not all that exciting from what I've played, lots of empty open spaces
You have more room to work with on 1 planet instead of thousands. I would expect much much better. And more realistic.
OOH OHO - I remember the idea that I think needs to be added ASAP
super simple but best refrence is that of the fallout pip boy VATS overlay
and if you don't understand that refrence (the outlin that covered plants/ores/animals or whatever else you're trying to scan)
we need the ability to change scanner colors
So they couldn't even properly design the 9-10 planets they have in game? That's something I dont like.
so when we point our viewfinder at a target we can have the outline color be of our choise (un discovered could be red and alreayd discovered could be green) (or yellow an purple, or black and white or blue and blue whatever)
sorry I suck at typing but you know what I mean
I think there's a mod already like that?
For the type of game they're supposedly developing it's a fine choice but they're not all that exciting to explore for the sake of it
the ONLY way right now to see if I havent scanned something is if it has a (????) around what ore it gives
Still though it's not a good idea to buy it, I really regret it 😭
But ideas are never dead. Can be revived again
True. 0 incentive to ever actually deliver a finished product
true, but you could combine a mesh animation with a water current system that would function in a similar way as their wind system. So if you jump into a river you'd start being pushed downstream
airports on planets, not just landing pads
This is fasle
if it leaves development hell anytime soon
This is not really a place to advertise for Star Citizen, this is for talking about NMS. But you're welcome to use #other-games
How the extreme sentinel planet are you going to milk an intangible concept?!
@tulip pagoda Get outta here with Star Citizen. Use #other-games
That reminds me can you milk the living ships in NMS yet? You can milk normal critters right?
Not yet, and yes
I want to rub living ship belly so it would hum me a melody. Or when u stop in deep space it will sing a lulaby.
And maybe a way to grow living ships. They look like hatchling , still in egg shape
and more weapons for them pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase
i wonder if they will ever add different biomes for each planet. like a forestry region, rocky region, or lake/water region for planets or that will be too much work
anyone suggested being able to dive deeper into the factions a bit in someway? How about destroying spac estations and waging war against a faction? Being able to convert or take systems over for the free order?
NEXT made terrain generation more continent-level so there's not really a technical reason for this to not happen (also I think it technically already can generate terrain like you're describing, it just doesn't most of the time). Assuming you're talking about broadly regional differences in plant life density and terrain type distribution.
Also the Foundation/Pathfinder/Atlas Rises terrain gen had this thing where you could get smaller-scale regional variety, I think by having certain ground types having different flora spawn behavior, it just wasn't super common (and I think limited to lush and desert worlds from what I've seen).
I get the impression Light No Fire does have multiple biomes in the sense of NMS planet types together in its world so I'd kind of imagine if the engines end up converging that they could do something like that in NMS too?
honestly LNF is likely them developing this system for both games
LNF will have all the varied biomes on a singular "planet"
while NMS will get a version where a planet type will have a few different biomes that are split along it.
I want HG to implement variety of regions. Planets can be still single biome locations, but with different regions: plains, mountains, forests and etc.
I mean, they can't backport everything, they've gotta save some stuff for lnf
I'm not familiar with the modding scene these days and they'd have a better idea about that but I do feel like you /can/ get the engine to do that as is.
Please can you make better multi tool laser weapons, like pew pew star wars lasers.
I find myself going back to boltcaster everytime because its SO much better than the rest.
lol ok
What about overhead chat bubbles, that you could disable in setting ( if you didn't always want em to show up)
styled probably in a futuristic way cuz it's no mans sky - your chat would appear above your head - Runescape style
also it would be nice if they could (or maybe it's on my end) fix the language [X][X][X][X][X] chat barrier
like I know this sounds stupid but even if it was the actual letters of another language and I couldn't understand it It would b better than the Boxes which are basically a ???? for chat
just an idea. some kind of ai robotic voice synthesis for text chat sounds funny. Not of an actual persons voice, similar to something like microsoft SAM but with a bit more texture.
If its a censored word it instead makes a slight crackling noise like the audio cuts out before continuing
i know of a game called Moonbase alpha that implemented a similar system though it was a literal text to speech
idea: use chat gbt or some other ai for npc reactions and conversations?
dont know about that, especially since the languages are not random gibberish, they are a direct word to word cypher
honestly with a bit of retooling to introduce important language concepts such as grammar, and methods of creating contractions and other variations on existing words that would make sense within the vocabulary, they could actually make all 4 of the existing languages real engineered languages.
i think its called morphology or something
the principles behind how languages are formed from concepts. why words mean what they do and all that
still regardless, AI would be useless here since words would need to be direct translated to the specific language, therefore could not account for random word variations that do not exist that ai may or may not create
also the player has limited choices which make the possible rendtions of a response equally limited
AI could be used for text to speech provide audio behind the alien language, since speaking that gibberish clearly with many variations would become annoying.
however for the generation of text itself would likely be extremely cumbersome to add.
star system radio
AI is gonna be a blessing for this game. While other games would use it to build their game, NMs could use it for voices yes, or quest on planets, heck maybe we can get cities or inhabited planets with an ai making a somewhat comprehensible city
They are using their own proprietary tech, I have large doubts they do anything at all with AI in the future
AI also kinda defeats the point of NMS
Also if it's just being used for alien voices, there's procedural vocalisation stuff which would probably just be better
i love how NMS mentions its underwater monsters as "abyssal" or somethin like "deep water" while u can literally see the floor of the ocean while flying (man i really hope they will add deep ocean planets)
where are they i dont find him abyssal
doesnt nms allready use ai? or something familliar to it to generate desc. for quests and discovery names?
Its also proc gen
It doesn't
Man, I really wish I could build my own custom settlements from scratch using a mix of base building objects and the settlement buildings ; n;! You guys think that might ever be a thing?
I think they should add something that does the opposite of black holes and takes you further from the core, maybe white holes?
AI would replace game writers wouldn't it? I am not sure how I feel about that
No, in my eyes game writers are a form of entertainment. So specifically any type of entertainment with some ai affiliated rules will not fully be touched by AI in anyway
I’m actually researching on topics for a dissertation when I do my masters in robotics, my main focus will be automation with AI. And one thing in general that I specify and WILL specifically state, is that Entertainment as a whole should not be automated through AI, with some exceptions.
You mean in NMS it would just be an automation?
Yes, but through the hands of people
The planetary generation is automated
The fauna, plant life, etc is automated
The structures are all automated, with some exceptions such as the anomaly, and the expedition structures
Now those are hand crafted
Sorry but let me get this clear. When you say trough the hands of people you mean automation with certain rules? Like someone will design something and AI will generate variants of that creation?
Someone will design something, that someone will create the algorithm for that something, that algorithm will then be automated through code. Automation and AI are quite separate from one another.
Automation is a set of tasks that are always repeated without human intervention. Once you create the algorithm you don’t need to look back cause you know what it will do
Gotcha
Where I draw the line is when intelligent automation is involved. You basically tell the rules to the computer and it comes up with an algorithm that matches those rules. You as an individual do not know or see what the algorithm is, and you don’t know if the AI has followed your exact instructions or rules. The creativity in this is gone, because now the computer is doing all the work for you, and many jobs has been lost because of this within the entertainment field.
I do think intelligent automation should be used elsewhere. And that would be related outside of the entertainment scope
As it stands currently, AI had 0 place in any creative medium imo
Especially visual, since it very blatantly plagiarises
Currently it’s obvious to tell when something is AI created, due to the fact that the learning models only obtain what is found on the great wide web, it uses that information to create whatever information that you gave it.
You tell it to create a cartoon mouse, it will probably copy Mickey Mouse
to be fair, just for text to speech, i think its fine given they just put in their own voice data.
AI has a use to an extent, its that its being ballooned into every aspect where it just falls apart completely
heres a question, why not deepdive into the cosmic horror, ala gemini home entertainment and dead space planets
because companies want to be able to not pay artists and have a machine create things for free
Here’s the thing when it comes to exceptions, I believe AI should be used in the Entertainment field, when it comes to grammar fixing, debugging, and play testing.
i think having ai use voice data to say the alien languages in game with proper prose depending on the context would be fine.
For certain AI will improve and I still don’t thing we should shy away completely. AI can be beneficial when it isn’t used to remove creativity
If AI can save a company five bucks per transaction they will invest heavy money into that.
I still think that’s removing the creativity
basically it would read the sentence in english, take the appropriate emphasis such as anger or cheer, then use that to say the words in the original alien language
I would prefer a human being to make their own alien dialect.
i dont think it removes creativity, because theres no way for them to voice every language variation with several variations so it doesn't sound monotonous when its all gibberish
keep in mind, its quite literally all gibberish
this isn't klingon, theres no adherence to linguistic morphology or grammar
Hmmm okay
words do have specific translations but thats the extent of it
so say... the word "cannot" has a direct translation in a loose sense.
but the word "can't" doesnt exist
What about games using text-to-speech?
same principle
its just a fancier way of doing text to speech
given they use voice data that is theirs to own, the only thing that changes is how the audio is output
just use the tiktok voices, easy
i dont even want to know how a human would create a dialect for the autophage
best leave that to microsoft sam
its easy to say have a human do it, but then your having to parse this.
we should have a live photo mode so that we can take videos too and or let time pass to a certain point if we are trying to capture a giant worm for instance popping out of the sand

Need more control options (especially of the more niche and nuanced types) like with the scan mode having a zoom function on controller for example. The fact that you’re locked into using the L2/LT and don’t have the option to use the analog functionality of the trigger to adjust the zoom (layman terms: pull L2/LT slightly you get small zoom, pull it mid way you get mid zoom, pull it all the way you get max zoom) is really odd to me and it feels like a potential control option on the R3/RS is just being wasted or at the very least feels unoptimized. This is further supported by the adaptive triggers on the PS5 controller (add a level of resistance to make for easier operation of this concept)
And this is just one of many
And if you want to make some argument about keyboard and mouse support not getting these features because the buttons aren’t analog well may I introduce you to the wooting 60HE (a keyboard with analog buttons) or some of razors new keyboards

A big thing with the worlds update is visual overhauls like with the water and clouds but one thing that kinda irks me is how weather conditions don’t really affect the visual identity of you, your ship, your exocraft, or buildings. I mean technically not even with the environments (plants and other vegetation) either especially of note the animals. So seeing that with all this would really help bring it together
The best way I could give credence to this is when you walk around on a snow planet during a blizzard you don’t get a bunch of snow on you nor does something like your ship the only thing that really occurs to you is when it rains (a glossy effect) but it only affects you and not your ship
This entire idea is to give more weight to what planet you’re on and how hazardous it may be; a visual feedback to the player beyond the hazard protection % going down. This as well as inversely showing the player how good a paradise planet is
Stop parking us at the front of the space station if the back is available
I wanna get to the vendors faster
That would be cool. Don't know if there'd be a performance impact with tracking snow particles piling up. I'd love to see rain streaking on ship windshields like in racing games, but that's probably not an easy thing to implement well.
I know it could be an issue with performance so I’d expect something like this to be more so exclusive to PS5, Xbox Series X, and mid-high end PC given how it doesn’t have any physical properties and is only visual. If not exclusive to a paired down version of course would exist on last gen systems
Just a friendly reminder 4 years after the PS4/Xbox One launched it was 2017 so like if people are to complain idk what to say but like idk maybe not be on PS4/Xbox One lol as rude as that sounds if you even got a PS3/Xbox 360 version of a PS4/Xbox One game that was anything remotely close to the PS4/Xbox One version you were basically grateful for it
They need to add flying predators, flying creatures that can land and walk around too
being able to fly freighters 🔥
The other exocrafts need some cosmetics and new items like the mech keeps getting
We have flying creatures that can land
I can see flying predators getting really annoying honestly.
Wellll if they went after prey fauna but left the player alone that could be cool
Minecraft phantom situation
I never really played Minecraft, are those like cliffracers ..)
Lets go to offtopic ill explain it
Would love more graphic settings for different things, and hopefully dynamic shadows soon, improved camera mode, and a better building system
I would kill for a fire pit decorative part. The fireplace rules and I use it in basically every build I do but I’d love an outdoor fire pit for some of my outdoor spaces
In NMS Synthesis they added
PROTECTED TERRAIN EDITS
Terrain edits made within a base are now protected from regeneration. The protected edit system has been improved to allow more edits to be made before reaching the cap.
Whatever happened to that because I've never seen this work at all?
and another feature that was added in Origins - Tornados
Doesn't ever happen at all either? what happened to that?
"Powerful tornadoes now spiral across planets during the strongest storms, scooping up any unfortunate fauna or explorers who cross their path."
They do exist but apparently encounters are just uber rare
I'm not sure what you mean by dynamic shadows, the shadows are dynamic already (not pre-baked)...
There are some videos of tornadoes on reddit, from the latest update
Yes, on extreme weather planets.
Sentinel Frigates? You can recruit them if you destroy the Sentinel Dreadnought
Multicrew ships? Some medium sized ships that are 1/2 the size of a frigate that can be controlled by 4 players max and 1 to 2 player atleast that you can roam in when pulse jumping and also when flying through space. Your crew mates crafting at the back while you’re flying or sit next to you in the main cockpit in 4 seats. Basically a bigger ship that has more co-op capabilities and can consider the smaller ships as “Small sized 1 player ships”
How do we feel on that?
That sounds awesome, honestly
Personally I don't really see the gameplay purpose for multicrew ships unless you let the other players control ship systems. HG also haven't ever really spent time on content that could only be used in multiplayer, probably bc there's a ton of people that only play this game SP
I think I would rather them enhance freighters or frigates so real players or hireable NPCs could man the ship systems (weapons, shields, squadron support, etc), as part of a fleet vs. fleet combat system
if they were to add multi-crew ships, id rather they just massively increase the size of existing ships than a new type that would most likely either be worse, or completely outclass current ships
though if you ask me, we already have crew ships, they're called freighters
add a system for hiring actual crew members rather than just the faceless dudes we got now, and that be enough to me
at most add some sort of manual flight, and weapons system. but honestly i wouldn't even see the need to go that far since there wouldn't be much of a point to do so
the only idea id have for it is to add super gravity planets that can't be walked on, but your freighter can fly in and mine using its arsenal.
im talking the scale is if your freighter were a normal ship, so you could fly and find a good ore spot to mine up goods. maybe gas giants with a similar principle
i guess a freighter micromanagement update is what im describing, lol.
seeing as pirate freighters will have crews of pirates defending it. We can have the same, which can defend us during random attacks. we could help but given we have a full roster of decent ships its likely you win by default.
im thinking every frigate you add can have up to 2 different ships to defend it and the main freighter
this is seperate from your squadron system (though maybe your squadron can act as your main freighter defence ships)
your defense ship limit is set by the number of frigates you have, though only so many are deployed at once for performance reasons.
once those ships go down, new ones spawn in.
You from the bridge if your ship if you sit in the captains chair, can view zoomed out version of the outside of the freighter, which gives you info on the state of your defense, freighter, and gives access to calling for torpedos from your frigates, or emergency warp. You can also manually call in active ships for repairs, which will cycle out new ones. Just incase you want to keep certain ships in the fight longer
you can select certain ships to be attacked by your anti-ship cannons on the freighter, and your freighter cannons can attack other freighters whether attacking pirate freighters, or pillaging friendly freighters.
this is where the Crew system is important. Your crew consists of "teams" of 6 members, with the total combination of profiency leading towards how well your freighter preforms in specific tasks.
the reason for so many members is because they will be the crew that walks around your freighter rather than the shallow faces meant to look busy rather than actually serving a purpose.
There are 5 teams.
The Coordination team, which improves the coordination and speed at which defence ships move in formation and assault targets.
The Repair team, which improves the speed damaged freighter components, and ships docked for repair are fixed.
The Gunner Team, which improves how effective your on freighter weaponry is, and the reload time between torpedo calls.
The Tech Team, which directly correlate to how effcient and fast your on freighter machinery is, and the amount of power you have access to.
The Trade Team, which affect how often traders dock onto your ship and the quality of their wares, or their ships.
These teams have sub upgrades or can have certain functions changed, such as instead of a trade team wanting better quality or more goods, you could instead make it so it increases the chance of higher quality ships, or pirate traders being invited onto the brig instead, or instead focus on buffing the rewards from returning frigates
Same principle, gunner team could have the anti-ship or anti-freighter cannons replaced with alternate firepower, such as rockets rather than lasers.
Coordination teams can improve the time which frigates return from trips or the number of good events that occur. etc etc.
people really want a ship with a crew, i think its better to just retrofit freighters to fit that role. With the many possible functions making it so you actually have some choice in what your freighter "does" to make it so your not just picking the highest stat crew, some are S rank but preform better in one area that you could center your team around, or may preform really good in an area that doesn't have much with what your team does. So you could make yourself into a makeshift dreadnaught, a trade vessel, a frigate operations station, a production hub, etc etc.
5 teams with 6 people each mean you'll have around 30 different people around your ship. which i think its enough. Ontop of traders docked there, and the men in your squad or manning the frigates. which could be used for a artificially inflated crew number, to add flavor to the complexity of your operation.
i think thats sufficent for micromanagement. so people feel like they have a ship with a crew.
...sorry for the flood. i get really detailed when i get super into an idea
Yeah pretty much agreed on that, a lot of the same ideas I've had for a while. Freighters need to feel more "you're own" and utilizing hireable NPCs to affect stats and ship role would be great. Right now the crew is just kind of decoration, but it could be so much more.
Anyway you should send all that to zendesk
i have a bad feeling me sending in a bug report that repackaged tech trading to other players doesnt work every update has made them blacklist my reports
i am still really fucking miffed that repackaged tech trading doesn't work
Hah I've asked them to increase the day/night cycle length every update, hopefully they still read my bugs
Derelicts need a rework i think, the logs tell of like 10 different possible fates a ship could have but none of them really strike out as apparent
A ship with a "ai aggression monitor imprisoned for dereliction of duty" should have an angry ai but nah it's just weird jellyfish floating around
Or the korvax captain fusing himself with the ship
Decide ship threat (horror infestation, rouge AI, other) and then generate logs based on the threat
I wanna play red light green light with the cocoons to get to a log with an automated security scan saying "DNA no longer matches initial scan"
sent it to the zendesk
i just want a fix for these shoulders, there's stout npcs where they look normal so why 😭
That was great
If they ever add surface dungeons, I think it would be cool if they took them in a different direction to derelicts
Instead of combat and horror, a mix of natural hazards, minor puzzles and traps would be super cool imo, India Jones style treasure hunting
You could even do stuff like having to roll one of those large spheres into a recepticle, traps being triggered by opening the wrong chest, winding layouts and stuff
Also, integration of the settlement proc gen system into the main POIs would be awesome. Instead of just finding an observatory, imagine coming across a Korvax science outpost with several buildings and some residents. Maybe have a quest giver and a trade terminal there too
Dominant race specific POIs would be awesome too. Vy'Keen military outposts, Korvax science outposts, and Gek having beefed up trading outposts

This is what worlds part 2 ought to be…
No Man's Sky is a science-fiction game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated universe. This is just a tiny sample of worlds you could visit.

A postmortem
Still dumbfounds me all these years later
This literally queued up after the light no fire announcement trailer, a big sigh followed
There are two things I want to have in NMS:
- Local Storage Containers.
- Sort your inventory and storage, etc.
So with the whole "purple stellar metal" thing, what do you think will be the case with that?
Will we get purple stars?
Purple stellar metal is indium
Yes, but we use that for blue stars do we not?
So if there's an unnamed purple stellar metal, what would that be?
indium is blue and is found in blue star systems, a new stellar metal would mean a new star type
I hope for new maximum security planets in worlds part 2. with only walkers and mechs. Maybe the planets could have valuable or rare elements like platinum or deuterium deposits. Planet could have unique terrain gen type.
You can find all of those worlds in the current version
If not more
Apart from the giant Dino herd planet
👆
more extreme sentinel worlds would be a nice touch
A lot of the pre-release visual differences in that trailer in particular came down to a handful cut meshes that wouldn't really fit with the current visual style that already have analogs in some of the new meshes anyway.
I'm the opposite, I don't like fighting Sentinels at all, and would love to have NPC enemies to fight
In what way? NPC could use the same pathing tech as the animals, with some combat routines added. and they already have all the animations that players have
most likely we're getting purple stars and another world refresh so indium worlds can generate purple stellar metal ore
i feel like it would just end up looking like SW:Outlaws
at the end of the day i fail to see the difference. If you ask me, if we got NPCs to fight it would have to be from assaulting enemy freighters or possibly raiding star stations to take over
a more indepth boarding system would be sick
Because it gives some narrative grounding (gets mission to fight bounty hunter, or gets mission to attack a local pirate fort). Fighting robots just doesn't have the same emotional stakes or narrative interest to me. And also using ground cover and terrain is a lot more interesting to me from a combat POV than fighting floating orbs and giant walkers..
getting the AI to use cover wouldnt be easy
especially with the randomness of each planet. there'd probably be a decent amount of pathfinding issues
Sure, it wouldn't be easy. But they are also amazing coders. But hey I'd even take base infiltrations where you have to fight through a pirate camp that's procedurally built. That would be much easier for AI to handle
Tbf there's a lot of files related to navmeshing that got added in worlds part 1
i think fighting is a ways off but not impossible
im 100% on board for random dungeons and stuff like that
I'm GUESSING that LNF is going to have on foot combat like that and my assumption is the engines are probably sharing a lot of code, sooo
That being said, if that is the case I don't think that'd necessarily mean it would end up in No Man's Sky, either.
(Also why I'm hesitant to read too much into the data mining right now :S)
Well then what is the blue one gonna be called? Cause both can't be indium.
what the hell are you talking about? the purple one would be called something different
it just needs to generate in indium star systems like other stellar metals
OOOOOH
Probably gonna just add new stars outright tbh
Most galactic regions have empty slots for more stars
Late reply but I meant high flying creatures
Aaaah okay yeah, birds landing would be neat
Because those birds are huge and you never really get to see how big they are unless you shoot them down or fly up to them somehow.
The regions don't have spots for new stars, they already have stars you can't see normally.
These shadow systems could be utilized for whatever they like, yes.
@oblique smelt This would be insane. I also hope we can really dive into9 factions more by taking apart systems, claiming for the pirates and destroy stations/convert etc
I still want the minotaur to be able to punch stuff, no clue why we even have fists on the thing at this point
Yooo

hey so remember how i mentioned that they should add water worlds, with under water cities that are hidden similar to Autophage camps?
this is quite literally what i mean
the lack of geometry should improve preformance, so they could have complex underwater city structures, with like either autophage, or another new hidden race
hopefully those shark guys
That planet seems bugged, but interesting that it has Atlas-shaped graphics on the bottom
Add a customizable radial menu option
its a bug for sure, but it perfectly explains what im talking about
water planet, just have large constructed underwater bases with npcs wandering about. with some kind of tech, maybe an upgraded scan harmonizer
They did just add water landings - seems possible
imagine if they did that and added ships that can switch between water and air/space
yeah the water landings seem a bit too random of an addition in Part 1 to not be useful for Part 2
or imagine a whole new procedural class of that hovering Wipeout expedition ship that has the water landing tech as an inate part of their design 😻
i can see them adding a tech tree to allow ships to preform dives, though preferably i think this system would warrent more tech for the nautilon
maybe a mix?
ship can only go so far, so for crushing depths you need to be in the nautilon
one thing i wish they would add is a multi-tool weapon wheel
hold G quick select what you want. Perfect
probably also a sub weapon wheel by holding the middle mouse button but i guess the X menu is fine
maybe we'll get a revamp of the Nautilus, turn it into more of a crewed submarine
i guess?
i get the crew concept but i like the idea of being isolated and alone at the dark depths of the ocean
the controls of it need to be refined in any case, I don't find it handles very well. and the top speed probably needs a boost
oh sure, but if crew members are just going to be stat buffs in npc form. i'd prefer keeping the isolation and offering more tech options
frankly, with how outclassed exocrafts are compared to most ships, i always thought they should just remove the tech limits on them so people can crank the numbers super high
kinda like how people will break in a nitro engine, and it makes everything more unstable, but you can get more power out of it.
What happens is that nitro increases the rate at which fuel is burnt, increasing the output of the engine. Problem is this puts stress on the intake manifold, overheats the vehicle, and corrodes the cylinders, ontop of other issues which can cause massive damage.
Nitro in this is instance is Nitrous Methane, which is used for drag racing, not Nitrous Oxide
NOS, Wet NOS in particular can also risk a catastrophic failure, usually due to pooling or backfire
I always assumed they limited exocraft speeds because they would outrun the terrain engine's ability to render objects. In a ship they can just not render stuff as you're flying above the ground, but with an exocraft you need to know what you're about to run into
basically what im saying is that you can fuck with a car alot more and get more preformance, compared to like.... a plane where you'll probably kill everyone on it by trying to fuck with the engine
the rendering speed is pretty solid on a ship which is way faster, i think it could keep up.
because the starborn runner and interceptors let you hover above ground where stuff does render
it's solid because they don't render many of the smaller objects when you're 50 feet above ground
you do know that you can hover off the ground in a ship right?
like close enough that everything renders normally
this is kinda what i mean by the fact that exos tend to be outclassed by ships due to all the love they've gotten in the past year of updates
honestly if exos got superior ore mining power, and the ability to harvest minerals by crashing into stuff, they'd be top tier again
on low-end systems? I would be surprised if it can keep up on a PS4. but maybe.
but at the end of the day most people just don't find Exocrafts useful when the ships are right there and fuel costs are trivial
yeah thats kind of a problem with the community tbh. Especially people still complaining about missing features
they backed themselves into that corner when they added backpacks that can hold as much as a ship's cargo
You want it, but just to have it, its actually not much better than something already in the game
back in the day I used to use the Colossus for mining operations because it could haul a ton of stuff. now it's pointless
for example planetary rotation, apparently it was added but later removed because it just seemed confusing to testers.
or something about no skyboxes which is absurd
those are technical features that 90% of people wouldn't even notice
Planet rotation seems to be fine in Elite:D and SC. It's just a matter of the right UX to guide players. It's not like pre-release of the game they had a lot of time to spend refining that, so they just took it out. but that doesn't mean the feature is a bad idea.
I mean yeah if they added it, I wouldn't complain. Though it really wouldn't improve the game much at all
atleast to me anyway
Having planets that move across the sky would be pretty enjoyable for people that like to stay at their base, I think. Especially if you could see planetary alignments and such.
i mean yeah, but i think 90% of players wouldn't even notice or wouldn't care that much
I've never really stayed in one place long enough to notice planetary rotation :S
...wow, was not expecting instant confirmation.
I also honestly never noticed it much in Elite 2 except in situations where it made the auto pilot act up!
that being said exocrafts can be useful, they just need functions unique to them and the ability to outpreform ships in areas.
Maybe the pilgrim is the fastest and the best at drifting. The Nomad can preform extending mid air hovering. Maybe the Roamer has the best mining efficency and gets the maxmimum amount out of mining ores in the ground. The Minotaur is the best at combat.
Give the Collusus the ability to harvest planets and rocks by crashing into it. Its bulky size would make it perfect for this
honestly if the exocrafts became the prime harvesting vehicles that would probably make them super useful
another idea is, emphasize these features and make it so each type of exocraft has a different technology type totally uncapped for them.
I'm surprised they never made the Collosus a multiplayer transport exocraft. Seemed like a perfect use case to give it a solid role, and nope they just let it become pointless
Pilgrim gets uncapped speed upgrades.
Nomad gets uncapped hover time increases
Roamer has uncapped mining efficency and amount upgrades (so it outpreforms the multi-tool)
Minotaur gets uncapped weapon upgrades
The Collossus gets efficency on materials it crashes into.
it gives them each something that actually matters
because honestly, i want the pilgrim to outpace a ship within sub orbit speed. That would be useful.
being able to hover around in the nomad would be useful
being able to get the most out of stellar metal deposits in the ground without having to make the terrain manipulator on your multi-tool as small as possible would be useful
mass plant and rock mining would be useful.
If I have one criticism of NMS's dev style though, it's that they tend to just add new things instead of refining the things already in the game. Like did we need that many exocrafts? Why not make the ones we had more useful first. Same with the crazy amount of weapon types we have. Spend more time making combat feel solid instead of just adding things that don't address that.
People wanted exocrafts.
and to be fair, they have been regularly improving combat
the sentinel and dissonant planet updates come to mind
though i remember a third update which improved all the weapons to give them more purpose and features
I must disagree, I think combat feels just as bad as it always did, from a gameplay "are you having fun in this moment" POV. They've added more mechanics, but I don't think the feel of combat has ever been improved much
What your describing though is my problem with the community to an extent.
They want more, without the actual thought process of what this really adds to the game
I don't get the impression that NMS was ever really supposed to be combat focused.
i enjoy the combat personally, so we'll agree to disagree on that front. But i think its inarguable they are trying to improve it
they have made combat focused updates
... Which also maybe gets back to the "it was something the community was asking for even if it wasn't really the most appropriate addition" thing
A lot of my criticism about combat boils down to movement. Player movement feels ok for exploration, but for fast-paced combat it feels sluggish
they are actively trying to improve where they feel neccessary but your right, they get caught up in all the features that people want. which seems to make it difficult to focus on improving features they already have
im not saying HG is perfect, but i do think its the community that has a part in this pattern you take issue with
honestly i wouldn't mind some kind of combat roll, though it would probably be nausiating in VR
I definitely agree with you that the community is a multitude of hungry baby birds who all want to be fed
Maybe exosuit upgrade that allows you to directionally dodge with your jetpack
On the topic of exocrafts though, i think they can all be made useful in their own ways. HG just needs to go and give them important distinctions that let them excel beyond where a starship is more of a general tool
Yeah I've always wanted an Unreal Tournament styled strafe dodge. In fact I've unconsciously tried to do that during combat before
i guess some kind of jet dash would be fun
honestly they should have kept the melee jet boost and instead made it a proper exosuit tech upgrade.
I think i got my exosuit maxed out with all the tech possible and still have leftover spots
Don't know what buttons they'd use to make it happen but maybe if you also hold that button, you can use your jetpack to increase your sprint speed as well.
honestly, i was kinda tinkering around with the idea of Exosuit Subsystems that give your exosuit certain unique features outside of your tech setup
Minotaur should innately be able to do that dodge as well, though it'd cover less ground obviously. It should also get that jetpack sprint boost and the AI should be able to make use of it as well. Edit: Less ground in propotion to its size that is
Maybe a defensive subsystem that gives you a short jet burst if you double tap space and a direction. With more Health points.
Or an offensive Subsystem which allows you to charge into enemies by pressing melee and space to deal a ton of damage at the cost of some shield
An exploratory sub system that cuts down on scan time, and gives you access to that long range melee jet boost that was patched out during one of the expeditions
but you have less health and your shields aren't as good
Yeah, doesn't rocket boots upgrade use a double tap jump system? They can just repurpose it for this dodging mechanic
kinda like how ships let you redirect power to subsystems
rocket boots would just activate by holding no direction and hitting space twice, was already trying to think about how to avoid interfierring with that
Well, maybe hitting space twice with no direction gives an added upward boost. You can give enemies some AOE attacks that sweep across the ground
I think a power diverting system with most things would be a definite plus on most things. Allow you to prioritize space suit functions and exocraft functions. Don't really see a downside to it
Also, they need to change it so that when going up a hillside, it doesn't activate rocket boots just from landing
im still waiting to see if they will actually add multi-swords to the game
They need to set it onto a radial menu. It's seriously annoying that if I miss system I was aiming for, I have to cycle back through for it
In fact, they just need to use radial menus in general for a lot of things
i kinda don't want that for the exosuit and would prefer an option you have to swap at an exosuit upgrade station since I think it allows for more individual choice. Where before it would just be everyone using the obviously optimal system for every situation by swapping
this absolutely
You mean like a loadout station type function?
Where you could have different setups for whatever you're doing?
Now that I think about it, why the heck have they not added radial menus? So many things could make use of it, multitool weapons, ship weapons, ship power systems, etc.
i was thinking you can go to an exosuit upgrade station like at a space station or the anomaly, and swap out your existing exosuit subsystem there
so instead of like ships where you can redirect power on the fly, you gotta go to a place to do that.
I think its a fair limitation that enforces the choice aspect, and allows for more customization without making it a permanent choice
also makes the upgrade stations not useless even after you have maxed out the exosuit
which i think should be important for all fixtures at the space station, usefulness regardless of what point in the game you are
I see your point but it would be almost impossible to predict what you're going to get into. I think that's why the ship power subversion works good as a function is because it's available at all times. It's not super OP and it doesn't take away anything. Having to go back to swap out a loadout just seems like it would be a hassle and I would find myself just not really using it except in special cases.
Make it so you can put that as an upgrade into your freighter
Maybe make it like a loadout drop pod if your freighter is in the system but then that alienates multiplayer people when only one person can call it in at a time
Well, they just need to allow multiple player freighters in one system
There would be no use to add this but it would be cool to drive around ur freightrr
Or maybe have some big capital ship battle
I have a dreaghtnaught and i wish i could use those massive cannons
I feel like NMS needs to flesh out the mechanics it already has rather than add new things. They've added enough
Yeah, I've sent that suggestion to their Zendesk a few times.
Why can we paint entire freighters but not ships?
Man I've got thoughts on this that I don't know how to explain
Beyond saying that, as a starting point, I'm weird and prefer the simplicity of the older versions
Adding features is good but I think there's a risk in creating meaningless additional steps for doing things. Like need to create starship fuel instead of just directly refueling with plutonium, or refining in general.
heavily agree
There should be a consumable item that allows you to package an entire tech inventory into one pack. Then you can take it and apply it elsewhere if you have enough slots. You'll have to rearrange the configuration of them though for your supercharged slots.
I find tool dashing is fast enough to dodge basically everything
(q and then jetpack)
You should also be able to preview what's inside of the package so you can see what you're applying
honestly a way to duplicate your base given you have the materials would also be sweet
or atleast a schematic system
i fw that heavy
Yeah, I think I mentioned that somewhere further up in the channel
We need that
Instead of system economies and conflict status being completely static forever, it'd be cool to have random events that happen in star systems that can affect trade prices, and have knock-on effects in surrounding systems. Player actions could also affect this. Like say there's a pirate fortress that moves into a system, you go and pick up a mission from the merchant guild to eliminate them because it's depressing trade prices. Once you do, trade prices go even higher than before.
Trade has really been overlooked, and actually sidelined quite a bit, since the Atlas Rises days, even though it's one of the major tentpoles of the game. I'd really like to see some more compelling reasons to do trading, and weave that in with other gameplay systems. And use that interplay to create more emergent stories for the player.
part of me wonders whether this game could use something like elite dangerous where faction stuff is simulated over time
i dont know bro. since multiplayer is such a fuckfest and mostly doesn't actually matter in the slightest i dont think so
would just be another pointless feature i feel
I would be in favor of a thunder dome pvp thing that you could que for at the anomoly ]
like.. a boxing ring
and you could earn a new form of currency or something
that would be very cool indeed except there are no limits on this game so that mode would be dominated by people with modded weapons (insta kill)
true true..
this is what i always say, because of HelloGames giving total freedom to the player to do whatever and putting no limits or boundaries on anything they really missed out on so many huge opportunities and i honestly think it has hurt the game
you know what I really want
A side button next to all inventories, that sorts the items. Perhaps you could choose to sort them a different way, but at the very least items that are separated into different stacks would all organize and create the least amount of stacks possible.
I have Adhd and everything is always a mess
im just glad they keep going w the game
A new expansion that features the return of "Dread Captain Fahng".
this. me and a friend once kicked the pirate cartel around Diaguandri down so hard they were unstable for a whole week
Allow the Minotaur to run at the cost of not being able to shoot. It'd just be cool to run with the big mech instead of jetpacking all over the place.
Add semi-aquatic lifeforms
I’d like the nav points I’ve discovered to be searchable. If I want to return to that one outpost I had discovered, their beacon should have at least imprinted their coordinates into my log. Getting tired of doing it on paper.
Game need underground update
Heck, I'd love to even be able to see the custom planet name and star system which a base in the teleporter list resides in. And make the screenshot previews actually show up consistently
Imagine you find some ancient folk in underground and they share technology with you
This is my idea
They need to make caves and oceans go like 3x deeper at least.
Or rather, make it possible for them to go that deep on rare occasions.
Oceans are also scary vibes give us some decent predators in there
I think EXO's need to be fully explored. There is SO much meat on that bone. If I was the dev. and this was my game, that would be my 100% focus in future updates. Like think about this for a second... We get Exo's that are like our Tech with Vendor upgrades. But there are also LIVING EXO's and the only way u get their tech is killing big hard to kill bugs. And/or Corrupted Sentinel EXO. Can you imagine being in a Minitour that is inspired by our coolest ships? But wait theirs more, that also means we get those mods, and enemies to fight! Can we all please get behind this idea and show the best dev team in the world we're into it. Hell I'd pay for it. I'd glad throw my money in the ring for that update.
i would really like a better internal view in the minotaur, or an upgrade with a better torso window, cause i can't see a thing and i'd really like to do those hulk leaps in 1st person 😂
Should add a upgrade or setting for vr alowing you to use it like power armor from fallout
Use its arms by using your arms
i wish i could afford vr 😂
I kinda wish the exocraft were proc gen like ships
vr ain't worth it. i have one, they are to heavy and irritate your nose
i had a similar idea.
Give each exo a specific function, and in comparison to ships, let them install as many of a a specific type of upgrade without limits
like for example the collosus which is kinda useless rn, give it the ability to harvest materials from rocks and plants it crashes into
let the pilgrim move faster than a ship at sub orbital speeds
give the roamer the most efficient mining laser out pacing the multitool, making it the best for mining up ores on the ground compared to the terrain manipulator
the idea is that while the spaceship and the multitool are general tools, exocrafts should specalize in ways that excel past them
I don't know if anyone would actually like this and it's admittedly contrived but another thought would be adding a category of extreme hazard planets where you can't really walk around safely outside of an exocraft for any length of time.
Or like idk /radio interference planets/ where you can't call your ship to you or something.
Put some of the Minotaur's weapon controls onto the RMB/Left Trigger. We have all these weapons yet you can only fire one at a time? Let me fire two at the same time.
I wish they would fix the way ships land, it's bothered me since 1.0. When ships currently go into a landing animation they hover a bit and then slam onto the ground. The animation should be more of a quadratic easing curve where it slows down at the end so that ships gently touch down. It'd be especially great if the landing gear compressed a bit when landing to give the feeling that there's hydraulic dampeners.
could you imagine a helicopter landing like that
It just needs a softer touch honestly. It's kinda jarring how you hover real slowly and then it seems like you just cut off the engines and drop
lots of broken things. I feel pain watching NMS ships land
Please properly classify the moons as moons and not planets, HG
Yesyesyes. Gimme trenches and deep sea gigantism. Little to no light at max depth.
