Im still so new to the game and learning things, I’m at the awe stage.
I just struggle to see a way to implement “medium” ships with interiors without rendering a freighter base obsolete. The game just doesn’t seem to suit those. The ships are cars, not mobile HQ police trailers. If they wanted to add something like this, they would’ve done it long ago
Im thinking more along the lines of bigger then a hauler but much smaller then a freighter.
Why not just go all the way and have a controllable frigates for that purpose? They already have somewhat of an “interior.”
Yeah, Euclid isn't the only galaxy in the game. You will find out how to get there eventually. This game has 16^16 planets across all galaxies.

Not really, other games I’ve played frigates are small, and cruisers are bigger, so the comparison is diff with every game. Im very new to no man’s sky

You do it with one type you’ll have to do it with all. You’ll have something so fundamentally different that no matter what kind of stats everyone will want to flock towards having a space Winnebago.
You can have multiple frigates.

One ship shouldn’t have everything, if a ship has interiors maybe it should have a negative too, like maybe it’s much slower, or has lower shields, or less cargo space etc, it’s all about the pros and cons, every ship should have a purpose to fulfill

If anything needs a revamp it’s exploration. In a game that’s dependent on it, three years is long enough for an update.
My solution is to focus on updating exploration consistently, let’s say for example every 2 or so years. Enough time for players to get the gist of what they’re seeing, and enough time to where it doesn’t overwhelm and bloat the game with constant new wonders.
We’ve all seen the exact same things since Origins 3 years ago. I think it’s time for a refresh

So here's the scenario you warp somewhere with your Freighter and your attacked by a pirate dreadnought and you engage in broadside combat
I’ve been in a freighter under attack before. It’s intense
I wonder if they’ll ever introduce multiplayer on switch
Why can’t our freighters come under attack by dreadnoughts? Let our combat frigates respond with an overwhelming barrage of torpedoes.
The latest update made it a thing.
i'd really like to see some additions to the ship's movement and damage systems, and potentially updated yolk and throttle for ships besides interceptors and living ships, but combat feels downright clunky as of now without any options for meaningful dodge maneuvers or any easy to follow visual indicators. i think replacing the hologram display with an actually practical screen radar for most ships and maybe something fancier for royals and special classes would solve the aforementioned. also adding in modular thrusters or including a ship / mod that allows for dashing in any direction with a teleport or anti-gravity field
as it stands the ships feel stupendously hollow and featureless, weapons all meld together and the balancing for AI combat is a joke almost immediately into any campaign with enough sodium
and finally i think stakes need to be driven up for survival, upon losing in space combat you should end up crash landing on a nearby planet forcing you to repair with whatever cargo is still on hand or with parts on planet, this could introduce points of interest like mass ship graveyards in pirate systems from where pirates have been ambushing traders, salvage mechanics on planet that can offer repairs or materials for your starship, and to top it all off this all encourages exploration of planets that may otherwise have gone ignored
but as it stands flying is kind of my least favorite area of the game right now
I would love if there was a PVP galaxy with like 10k systems only with it locked behind progression in some way, maybe you could get to it through the anomaly, PVP would always be enabled and you could loot other players graves, completely separate from the rest of the game so it doesn't effect anyone (it might also be necessary to limit everyone to like 5 bases per that galaxy so it doesn't just become completely covered by bases.)
Also all difficulty would have to be set to specific levels temporarily there.

Its not like the game is free, people are prob still buying the game, and this game seemingly is still getting alot of good attention on random yters making no mans sky in 2023 videos and stuff, Plus this game was bought ALOT at release.
There's also the other games they've developed and are developing, although I haven't heard much about them.
I really wish they will add even more "enemy" in the game, Sentinels and the corrupted are good and all but like for reference I once just beat wave 5 with no upgrades and just using mining beam and while digging some holes to make cover. A real challenge in the late game would be cool.

there was this time that NMS was announced for macs and ipads - the mac release came out but we never heard anything about the ipad
today - at the apple event they showed off some ray tracing that their new mobile chip can do

I've watched this clip a few times and there are no similar props or textures - but it just has NMS feels to it.
their are some drones flying around that take away from that feeling entierly... but It made me want to speculate
probably just a demo reel to show off ray tracing.. but it has uncanny NMS asthetics in it.
Kinda does.. but what takes away the NMS feel for me is that the structure is integrated with the terrain at the side.

So many people were worried (and excited?) over Starfield destroying NMS on day 1... but surprisingly it's release gave NMS so much more spotlight. I don't think anyone really saw it coming.
that’s so true, no disrespect to starfield, I’m sure it’s a great RPG, but no man’s sky is in a different category if you ask me. There both very different games.
Technically, HG never announced an iPad version that I can find. It was Apple who said it was coming to iPad in a marketing press release. However I wouldn't be surprised if HG is planning on it and Apple mistakenly leaked that too early. They are probably waiting until more of the install base has phones/iPads that can run it

That’s true HG never did say. So far it’s just been Apple’s press release and TheForge.dev website on the (main page) saying they are helping HG in some way to bring it to MacOS and iOS.

I have an idea for a future update, they should allow players to create there own story quest and lore either on a planet or galaxy. Imagine stumbling on someone else’s planet and discovering the lore and a possible quest they have created for you to go on. It will definitely add depth to a planet. After all every planet is different.
There should be a camera mode quick bind, cause when you need to time something or do an action that cant be done because ur pulling out the quickmenu

in the apple ray tracing demo - one of the drones flying around does a brief scan
but still the outliers for this being anything related to NMS are the weirdness of the drones... the player following a scripted path NPC... and the wall of terrain.. I think these 3 points are the biggest to suggest it's not NMS and I'm a crazy person
Is there a terrain replacement thing, so i dont have to mine the ground and replace the ground and then flatten it etc i could just replace one terrain for another like base vs cave

I didn't know anyone thought that demo footage was NMS, it's pretty clearly not. It's likely not even a game, just a demo scene Apple built for the presentation

I think it be cool if they added a new ship type called a "gunship" where the entire premise is for coop players to be in one ship. The pilot cant shoot the guns on it, but three other turrets can be inhabited by other players. Maybe even mountable turrets on the freighters too. Freighters could have air to ground turrets that you can get in and help a teammate from the air.
It might be hard to do this with the current scale of space stations
Gas giants (planet type); build/summon a probe to harvest the gases off of it. Can land on probes (if unable to build at least be able to buy them; akin to that of a freighter/capital ship). The unique characteristics of this is harvest rates and amounts
Player guilds or clans where players can align their interests and playstyles whether these clans would be bounty hunting guilds, roleplaying guilds, pirate guilds etc.
It will be nice to give rocket launcher some more upgrade modules

nms just has an almost generic sci-fi low impact geometry kinda look, so it's more likely that's a unity rendering or something similar

I like the gunship idea from earlier. Make some of them sentinels and make it an expedition where the sentinels drop off walkers and the more waves you beat the more you get @rapid sand
Next update definitely needs to be a combat overhaul, combat just feels so outdated and it almost feels pointless to upgrade your weapons because everything is so easy to kill

Multi-pilot gunships and docking arms dedicated for them would be good. Or a dedicated bay for gunships. It could also tie into an update to space stations.
I was disappointed when I found out flying animals are just always at a specific height.

I disagree, for now at least. Seems like all we’ve been getting lately besides packed in with the big stuff are combat tweaks and features. I’d like them to reign that back in a bit and lean towards updating exploration instead. Coming up in a few weeks it’ll have been three years since Origins, since the last major exploration overhaul. I think we’re long overdue.

Localized weather should be added into the game, making it so that storms don't cover the entire planet. This, of course, does not have to be true of all planets but it would add more variety to the game. Chasing down storms on extreme weather planets in order to collect Storm Crystals could become a fun gameplay loop if you also make extreme weather even more deadly along with these changes. You could also make it so that when the game specifies that the storm is "raining glass", that it actually rains glass that damages anyone caught in it.
There should also be non-harmful weather on some planets, for example, granting paradise planets a bit of normal rain and whatnot. This could just add an extra layer of immersion considering many of these paradise planets have water and yet there is no rain on them. Maybe even sometimes just have heavily cloudy days but with no weather whatsoever on some planets. Planets could also have dense atmospheres that let no light in whatsoever, so that you're at the whim of your flashlight and anything that glows in the darkness.
Also, FIX LIGHTING PLEASE. It is very broken and barely illuminates anything.
Speaking of storms, gas giants can have extremely large ones and could be an extra addition to the gameplay loop.
I know what you're thinking, "You can't land on gas giants though." Here's the thing: you don't need to.
We already have gases that we collect in No Man's Sky, so the addition of gas giants could prove to be a larger scale way to collect gases for even bigger profits. Add different gases to the game also.
We could install new tech into our ships that allow us to scoop out the gas while in turn being damaged by "Pressure" the further into the gas giant we go and storms could roll in that increase the damage even further. Add some form of tech that increases protection against pressure in certain layers of the gas giants but storms could be the only thing we can't protect against inside of a gas giant.
Eventually, maybe for an extreme amount of units we could build some form of sub-orbital platform that we can land on and even expand that could collect the gases automatically.

Its a pretty cool idea, my concern with it is the netcode. Ive played coop with a few friends and I could tell it needs work. Id also like pilotable frieghters to go along with the usable turrets, but realistically I dont see that happening since freighters seem to act like static bases so I feel like they'd have to rework them from the ground up just to add that. However I do think my gunship idea is more feasible as long as the multiplayer side of things holds up. They can even add missions in the nexus to go along with it to incentivise players to group up and use it
I was thinking of this myself, especially about the normal storms that dont hurt you. I feel like that at the very least could be added. Localized weather might be bit more difficult. I dont doubt it could be done, but I feel like they would have to rework the planets greatly to make that happen. (Obviously I dont know for sure since I didnt develop the game lol) with your gas giant idea I think its an interesting one. Ive been interested in astronomy since I was little so I was actually a little disappointed when I found out there werent any giants in the game. I personally wouldnt mind if I flew my ship into a gas giant and it crushed me in seconds lol. But I understand why that wouldnt be fun for most people and I can understand why they didnt add them for that. Your idea adds an interesting mechanic though to make them interesting
As much as I do think the combat still needs work, I do agree that exploration needs an overhaul. Particularly with planets and fauna. Too much fauna in my opinion and that makes them repetitive. They need to rework the wild life and make them more rare

Pets weren’t an issue back when Origins launched and they had to wipe all non-sentient life from the universe. Now we have the ability to tame pets and receive eggs as rewards from Twitch drops.
I’m just scratching my head wondering whether or not it’s possible to add new animal ahem “components” without doing that again.
PC players, we’re lucky. We can back up our pets using third party apps.

Hard disagree, there is a lot of exploration in the game already, while the combat is lacking. The progression of your character feels good, only problem is, all of the enemies are too weak, there is not enough of them, the animals on the planets fall over before they can even touch me, you could defeat the boss sentinel with a C class multitool with 0 upgrades no problem. It feels like the combat has never been touched since 2016 with how outdated it is.
But this is not a combat-focused game. Some players desire it I get, but at it’s core the game revolves around exploration, and I want to see it prioritized. Not saying we should never get another combat-focused update, but I’d like to see it held off for at least a little bit and give exploration a long overdue makeover.
I agree it’s a problem that you can shred enemies with a C-class starting multi-tool, but maybe there’s something else to it if it’s been unchecked for so long.
Someone brought up a great point on the Reddit about the seeming absence of starship specializations. It seemed that a fighter had the best attack, hauler best cargo, shuttle best maneuverability, and explorer best hyperdrive among others, but it could’ve been ditched because wanted to fly what they wanted. Maybe it could be the same way with multi-tools?
Gas giants should have floating islands.
Floating settlements in the upper atmosphere like Cloud City. A special exocraft used to traverse the depths and resist the extreme pressure. Rarer resource deposits and potentially new gases the further down you go

What about planets exceptionally close to their host star, where the majority is a sea of lava. Or tidally-locked planets, where one side is blasted with unending sunlight, while the other is blanketed in permanent night
Just let us fly to a star and do something similar to my gas giant idea except instead of diving in, you just kinda skim the surface for materials and create a sun station to harvest things there. Like fuel scooping in Elite Dangerous

I think, this feature was too hard to implement properly. Like, imagine if planets had reasonable sidereal year and you wanted to land on a moving planet.
Yeah, I think it's too late to add orbits considering it'd be really weird to work with in multiplayer with how fast days go by on those planets
I wish when they will make generation update they will shrink planets to their pre-release size. Like what is the reason to have big planets, when they are self-similar? You saw one part of planet — you have seen whole planet.
I'm fine with the way planets are now in terms of size. I just wish there was more variance on these planets. If a planet is mountainous, almost the entire planet will have tons of mountains. You don't get mountain ranges giving way to plains of grass or canyons dividing several dense forests.
Also, we need better procedurally generated POIs. The layouts need to be drastically altered at the very least. I've seen the exact same crashed freighters a billion times. Maybe sometimes the two halves of the freighter could be much further apart with the storage boxes scattered in between. Maybe one half is on the ground and another is deep in the ocean with the storage floating in the water and embedded in the sea floor.

Maybe some creatures can pick you up and fly you into the sky, like how abyssal horrors drag you close to them
Oh ya Hostile creatures need a masssive buff you can beat them no problem with a beginning mining beam.
They kinda just have a seizure while you attack them then die
Also, just more procedural parts for creatures in general. Especially add some procedural parts to exotic creatures since they're all kind of a one-trick pony.

It'll make places more "valuable". Like you found some tall mountain and know there are no other such mountains on this planet. Currently it feels shallow, because you know there is no unique places on the planet, everything is same.
I think they're building up to it with the way staffs work. They're very new and out of the way. So testing some stuff on them would be completely fine
Making it smaller with the same world gen system would still be the same, Mountainous planets would still basically all be mountains.
Also, planets have regions, but they are not used for generation. I think HG should use them like "forest region", "plains region" and etc.
More biomes as well is very commonly asked
Also, some planets with 1 or 2 extra biomes. Make them kinda rare though. I definitely wouldn't want them to be common.

I wish this is the way the planets were as well, instead of a very limited number of hand-picked color palettes all planets use. I understand the art team's desire to be precious and intentional about the look, but the look has also changed drastically over the years, even in their color choices. And it's adversely impacting diversity.
The color palettes themselves should be procedurally generated
There are good algorithms out there for creating cohesive palettes

Also two things, Completely Water planets (Maybe specifically hycean ones) And gas giants.
For full water planets, we need to actually be able to land in the water without fiddling around for a high enough landing spot.
Ya i didnt think of that and prefferably would like some pretty deep water, so water landing would be needed to be added, maybe it could be a launch thruster upgrade making the planets somewhat difficult to get to.

The game needs to have a system where if you scan an autophage camp and an object materializes into you, you should get yeeted out of it to avoid softlocking.
Also, improve enemy starship AI please. It's so annoying that they continually fly through a freighter when I'm trying to fight them
Agreed. Dogfighting is just bad in general in most games, NMS suffers from it too.
Like, I don't need it to be a main focus but with how much they keep updating it, update the AI too

I think the biggest problem with combat rn is just the complete and utter lack of difficulty
Like ya neither the fps or ship combat is great but thats not its focus anyways.
Also, interacting with objects on-foot in 3rd person is really wonky
Even the new pirate freighter once you figure out the order of attacking things, it becomes pretty simple, still prob one of the most complex battles in the game, but not that difficult.
It's at least a cool spectacle but once again, needs more procedural elements to it
Maybe the shields are powered a different way, maybe you destroy their hyperdrive differently. This other pirate freighter has faster torpedoes with less damage or slower ones that deal tons of damage
I feel HG may be forgetting the procedural core of the game
I feel like no one noticed that the sentinel freighters got shield gens too that makes that battle alot more fun too.

They could also add some organic interiors. Like how you can get a living ship and the living frigates. Give us a living freighter.

hard to tune difficulty when they've allowed people to upgrade ships to ridiculous firepower levels. trying to balance encounters between these people and the newer/casual players is probably not something they can easily do.
Add lock-on missiles and make fights progressively faster to pair with your ship upgrades. Don't tweak the damage or health too much
Ya thats fair i would atleast like some kind of optional late game battle thing,with more useful rewards, i dont feel any reason to fight corrupted sentinels, or sentinel freighters, cause the things they give there are easier ways to get.
The easy solution is power level scaling, but a lot of players would probably be upset because they want their endgame, minmaxed ship to do Big Damage
I feel like somehow, freighters should turn into derelict freighters when destroyed, leaving only automated defenses like drones running, along with some extra loot
Power level scaling kinda removes the progresssion part tho ya.
That's why I suggested the pace of fights quickening rather than going too wild with scaling damage or health too high

the AI definitely needs to have worse aim. they just seem to hit 100% with their hitscan weapons
Also, a bit of survival instinct so if they think they're gonna lose they attempt to warp just like pirate freighters.
Although you could make some of them really stubborn and fight to the end.
Sentinel waves kinda exist as an optional further challenge but getting to wave 5 really isnt that hard and feels pretty useless since you can just get a sentinel pillar map for some navigation data.
I do like the addition of the ship power systems though. being able to shift power to engines and get the drop on an enemy is a nice change
It'd be cool if sometimes even after defeating all the sentinel ground waves, the freighter spawned anyway and started firing down at the planet.

If they could do a Infinite wave mechanic after wave 5 that would be awesome, with scaling rewards
Maybe you have an easy opportunity to get out and shut down sentinels, and locate a pillar but could go further if you wanted.

Let's not forget enemy ships maneuverability is 5000 times greater than the players and you'll always feel like you have tank controls in comparison.

Sure but I mean more player customization in general so more than just torso, legs, armour, gloves, boots, backpack, etc. like more patterns, shoulder armour (already exists with the armour but they aren’t separated), the option to not have armour, arms on their own and separate (for a scenario where you want only one mechanical arm instead of two), and just more options in the already existing categories as it and not tied to anything specific

No Man’s Sky has had an amazing dev team that have brought new life to the game since I've logged 500 Hrs in solo gameplay (mostly 2019). The balances to the game, the QOL fixes, and additions to the game have made it an amazing experience to keep up with. I’ve been waiting for a few specific patches (sentinel combat, avenues to explore, planet types to discover, etc.) that have arrived over the last two years. Thank you Hello Games!
Though upon returning I still feel a lack of immersion when exploring planets, which I think most would agree is a core experience to a space exploration game. Immersion comes with feeling like you are really stepping onto a new planet with a new look and feel. While I agree there is a great diversity of planet types, the topology and fauna leaves much to be desired.
Some of what I suggest I understand may be easy or challenging but I truly believe it will benefit the feel of No Man's Sky immensely and will easily add hundreds of hours of gameplay for the explorers of NMS.
General:
Planets are likely to have multiple biome types (especially based on geographical location on the given planet and distance from the given star), allowing multiple biome specific fauna and flora types on the same planet.
Topology should vary based on a variety of factors, (planet type, age, and proximity to their given star, biome, etc.)
Topology Suggestions: waterfalls, lakes, streams, lava rivers, gas lakes and pockets, geyser fields, steam and lava pits, tar pits, discernable mountains, more ravines and cliffs, deeper and more in depth cave systems, Crystal formations, underground/water exclusive topology, underwater waterfalls, hidden gardens of paradise, volcanoes, craters, discernible coastlines.
More interactable weather events.
hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, floods, wildfires, eruptions, earthquakes, mud/rockslides, avalanches.
More interactive and types of buried ruins (culture based statues and buildings from past and current NMS species)
Flora & Fauna
Making Taming more valuable and important to the player/players who choose to do so.
Prey Fauna should adhere to a certain survival strategy like herding (or agility, heightened senses, etc.)
Predator Fauna should adopt certain hunting and scavenging strategies (stalking, pouncing, scouting, etc.) (maybe select a few fauna models (air, sea, land) could be alpha predators that offer a reward or adding trophic levels)
Allow larger scale cultivation/livestock benefits and late game scaling, and add diversity of uses for fauna/flora (harvesting materials, battle mounts, etc.)
Making more Flora types (vines, fruiting trees, carnivorous plants, flowering plants, water specific flora, more harvestable flora with benefits, roots that hold you in place, etc.), and also making flora more interactive with the player.
Flora & fauna should have exclusive interactive experiences seeing how they share an ecosystem (prey look for specific foods, fauna types are attracted to certain flora, etc.)
MEGA FLORA/FAUNA (<livable space plz??)
Flora genetics system (increasing yield, growth time, hybrids, valuable mutations)
Flora Hybrids (based on planet biome makeup)
Collectible fauna (terrariums, & companions)
Space & Random
More solar and space events that can potentially interact with planets (comets, solar flares, temporary anomalies, eclipses (eclipse exclusive events and aesthetics)
Space exclusive fauna GIGA FAUNA (bosses, tames, harvestable, collectible space whales that move through space/create blackholes/portals to desired areas once tamed and can be summoned with a call)
Tide systems based on moon(s) and proximity to other celestial bodies
I'm not an expert in any regard to game design or ecology but I can feel this game's planets are lacking any real and diverse experience. I hope to see the game continue to grow and flourish and I hope to be there to experience it all. Safe journeys travelers!
I like the hood options on the autophages
I know they're specifically modeled for those heads but maybe there could be a way to make hoods work on other heads

Once the Korvax/atlantid arc concludes, I'd really be hyped for a first spawn focused update. Like Gek remnants who hate the current Gek for being brainwashed and are also in hiding like the Autophage, but are unwelcoming to you.
A feature where you can set free a species on a planet for it to inhabit it. So you choose an egg and put it on the planet and the next time you vitis the planet your pets species will live there.
I wish that at some point the starship trail thingy will actually change the colour of the thrusters as well because right now anything other than the dark matter starship trail just looks straight up goofy, in my opinion. For example, the green starship trail should make the thrusters green and not purple, temporal trail should make them blue, etc.
I just think it's goofy that the engine contrails are still a thin line -- which IMO looks horrible -- instead of matching the radius of the engines they trail from
Saw this really long post. To sort of agree(?) I know it’s a sandbox game, but I wish there was more going on in each planet to make me feel like I could really get “involved” in whatever was going on there. The exploration is fun, finding settlements and space wrecks and all that is enjoyable, but I would have a lot of fun if there were settlement NPCs and small quest lines to give you some sort of sway on that planet - maybe interplanetary rewards for doing so. I know those are more like RPG elements but I think they could be nice. It’s lonely out there in space.
Perhaps the only way I’d accept a universal reset is if everything is redone. Have we come too far or is there still time to do all this updating to exploration.

There are so many cool animals to collect and experiment with eggs and only having the few slots we have is incredibly limiting, like people who want to collect one of every cool dinosaur they see or something, there should be the ability to get more slots (even if it costs more) or at least a pokemon computer style way of storing them so even if you cant call upon them you can still have them, the diversity in animals is so strong that having so few slots is just a massive annoyance, and there arent even enough personal wonder slots to put cool animals in there

I heard that the amount of pet slots is "hard coded" into the game so modders cant change it without it causing corruptions

It's kinda weird how you have to warp in your ship to show up to a space fight instead of it happening when you warp with your freighter too.
Damn now you got me thinking.. the pirate freighter can't be damaged with your freighter, so your crew wants you to get in your ship and take it out, but that's when the pirates send out their own ships.

sentinel interceptors already have the anti-gravity well
manually setting a distance for an object (aka place it while floating) so it has to be placed while touching something /being able to turn something with set amount of degrees of rotation / manually moving something in set directions (local or global xyz) and by set amounts , i am so used to warframe base building that this seems what we have now is very very difficult to work with
also not being able to rotate something in place without having to pick it up and potentially move it from the perfect spot (if its not a snap on piece)
also you should be able to go into a pets species tab of info from the companion register
"Alien" body type ideas. Body types that aren't exactly based off earth animals.
- Upspider: They look like arthropods with many legs. Their eyes and mouth are below their body in a radially symmetric form while their legs are attached to their upper body. Often large in size.
- Stalker: Slender or pear-shaped humanoid fauna that may or may not have a head. Their most prominent feature is a long stalk-like neck and long arms emerging from the lower part of their bodies. Often tall and can climb large flora and terrain.
- Protomole: Slow-moving fauna. Marked by thin worm-like bodies and large teeth that they slam onto the ground to mine terrain.
- Wart whale: thick quadruple fauna with a very large circular/oval body with warts growing all over the place. When attacked or disturbed they release toxic gas near them.
Yeah, the lack of truly alien fauna was a big disappointment for me going back to the launch of the game. The difference between the fantastical alien landscapes of the concept art vs. the "earth but a little different" that we got in the game is pretty stark
They've added a few more weird alien creature types since then, but it's still mostly variations of deer, badgers, and dinos
I want theories regarding future expeditions based on all that we know about the lore leading up to this point. ARG content included. Does anyone have any? I've been thinking a bit, but I don't know how to articulate my thoughts right now.
There should be a "smooth out" option for the terrain manipulator, it doesnt make things flat like the flatten tool but smooths out edges
Autophage staffs look a bit awkward underwater, the animations/poses could use some improvements.
How about underwater Staff parts? A trident head has easy style points.
There should be "save areas" that you can set up that cause terrain in that area to not reset

i mean peoples bases already have the terrain reset in some places randomly, imagine the amount of underground/cave bases people would make if they didnt need to worry about that, im currently makign a cave base and if i have to constantly mine the walls a bit so be it i need my cave dwellings

For the terrestrial modular bases, it would be neat to have a flat solar panel ring or plate that would go on top of either the cylindrical or square modules. They would generate as much power as multiple individual solar panels and you would not be able to build anything else on top of that particular base part.
The individual solar panels can get pretty cluttered, especially in modular bases.
Eventually having solar roof panels for the wood, stone, and alloy base parts would be neat as well.

Craftable base pass door keycards. So you use them for opening specific doors. You need to have it in your inventory to have it work.
You make a card and "name" the card "Door A" and you can only open the doors with it that also are named same way. "Door A". You can make "guests only" areas with it or "vip only" area
Part of me wishes the game would give me more storage units that 10 in base and 10 on my Freighter. also I wish I can own several freighters because I am hoarder and like to collect things. I need storage for modules. I also would not mind the ability to build Empires sort a speak. and please raise unit cap make it so I can have as many credits as I can get I hate limits.
I also need factory stuff and production. I need something to occupy my autistic mind.
and starfield limits me it angers me with limitations.

yes that is only 500 slots dont mean much when you fill things up with modules and things that dont stack high. I need more than 500. I just need a sort of minecraft chest so I dont have to sift through ships, bases and other inventories looking for what I need
I am trying to say I am a hoarder I just need storage because I also like building factories and doing logistics things because I like setting up mining machines refineries and than building conveyors between them and using said resources to make things I like automation.
You don't need more storage, you need better organisation of your existing storage

That maybe true but even that will fill up. It would be nicer to have the ability to craft crates as I need them even if the boxes only held 10 slots per box I can build more as I need them where as I need to get more ships or other equipment and bog myself down with it rather than storing it in a structure which would make organization easier. and the more ships and equipment the longer you are sitting there looking for the ship at least with a depot you could have signs to point you where you can find things like a library of sorts.
I keep most items I get because I do way to much building not to. I never know when I need it because in my mind I can have too much refining power or too many mining outpost I really do need a more centralized point to organize everything specially where I like to keep up expansion It would get to the point where I have hundreds of ships I am likely to Quit starfield because the limitations are too restricting for me. I just need more If I could get mods on console I would mod them in.
Mods will not save this problem because scoping of modding is limited

I have a 2 haulers. 1 just for modules . Second just for building materials. With rest of ships and freighter its more than enough. MAYBE i would want bigger storage for food items because there is a LOT of food items and seperate container for pet eggs because 18 eggs cap is not enough imo
Ya I feel like limiting storage containers is totally unnecessary imo, If we could get local chests that don't go across all bases and stuff, but you have no limit on, that would be great.(one problem with this tho if they ever did a planetary wipe again you'd lose your stuff)
I'm glad this is getting more traction. For a seemingly endless universe it sure is strange that all the sentient spacefaring races are humanoid. Take a page out of Stellaris' book! Aren't there more than a few species where they're just blobs? What about the Rock-based or Aquatic-based lifeforms DLC?

The storage container limit (and other limits in the game) is likely a pragmatic one. All game information is included in one giant XML save file. If they allowed unlimited storage containers then the save files could balloon massively and either run into platform limitations, cause slow loading/saving, etc.
Im still baffled there's no local storage, that that wasn't in the game from Foundation. Of course, it helps with not losing stuff but I'd love to make stashes on my homeworld
i personally would be okay long load times and i would not see too many issues with it considering Minecraft's does not have the limitations. Minecraft's limits being so astronomical that it would take millennia to reach. i mean yes 2b2t reached well over a TB but that server has hundreds of players and has been active for well over a decade a single person likely would not use that kind of space in there lifetime.
I can't speak to how Minecraft handles save files. If NMS used cloud save then perhaps this wouldn't be an issue, but then we would lose the ability to fully play NMS without an internet connection
One thing I REALLY dislike about the new Dreadnought battles on PC is the S key is used to slow down, but it’s also used to target lock and if you hit it, you will target lock on one of the various pirate starships that are flying around instead of slowing down. This can make it difficult when trying to get to the different spots you need to get to on the Freighter, especially when you’re trying to get there quickly and slow your approach enough that you can fire without slamming into the side of the freighter or completely miss your target and suddenly you’re facing a different direction.
I’d like to see NPC squadron pilots actually deal damage to enemies one day.

other hirable npcs could collect resources from your farms which you can choose what and bring them to a central location, it would make stasis farms much more efficent

But I always thought if they did ship customization, it should be done in a way like how they did staffs. Something that takes work to do and it's super cheesable.

I want some basic quality of life functions in the galaxy map. Multiple way points, being able to manage very very far waypoints in the map so you can try to warp to old visited systems and know how far away they are,
i would love to be able to plot trade routes or like an upgraded economy scanner that picks a trade route thats the best for what you have on you
I want them to make smuggling a bit harder and add multiple biomes for certain planets
Best QoL for the map: get rid of the 5 year long cutscene of telling you where an atlas station or black hole is.. Which also disorients you when it's finally done.
i think evry time you warp back to a normal system from a pirate one it should scan you, and the space station should shut the docking door until u die or kill the sentinal ships\

We need storms like the storms we observe in the actual universe. Storm cells that last virtually forever, larger than a moon, planets where it rains glass and molten rocks. Look up the most extreme/horrifying planets that have been discovered and suddenly no mans sky feels so tame. There are some planets where one side is constantly facing its star, while the other half just stays in darkness and the half that faces it is so close its just a perpetual molten hell scape. But theoretically there might be a sweet spot along rim.
there are really pleasant rainy planets where its basically always raining but only storms a little bit.
When i first heard about no mans sky, something about the narrative of everyone starting far apart on the outskirts of a galaxy journeying to the center and meeting there really captured my imagination. I think they are trying to capture the same feeling with the expeditions and stuff. But I think it would be really interesting if there was some greater existential threat to the community in game that required people to work together somehow. Like a supermassive black hole, some kind of cosmic explosion, a supernova, a rogue planet on a collision course with the galactic hub.
I think what might be missing from no mans sky is some kind of procedural physics engine/mechanics that allow for a dynamic universe. Planets need to have cores, heat, they need real orbits, the water needs to have waves and flow and be impacted by outside forces. But that would be remaking the game from the ground up. So No Mans Sky 2. But for now we can at least hope for surface level changes to make things have the qualities of a dynamic universe

good luck running that on a PS4 or Switch. I think a bigger issue for me is the fact that all storm systems happen on the entire planet simultaneously. The single biome per planet limitation has never bothered me, but I think weather should be localized

I think its possible. Ofc it wont look as good on switch or ps4 as on ps5 or PC, But its just visuals. No advanced ragdoll physics. No colisions.
It's a volumetric cloud system which is computationally expensive, they would probably build it the same as the weather clouds. Which don't look as good on PS4 because of CPU limitations
I'm not saying it wouldn't look cool, though I don't think they could get it looking that nice in the game

idea: make worlds have different biomes, not like they have different reasource nodes like where you can place a miner but have access to that material, and different weather than the other areas making stuff a lil harder

Honestly the biggest thing that would drastically change NMS for me would be the removal of "fake stats" or whateve you wanna call them for squadrons, settelements.. And something else that I can't remember right now.
As well as much better NPC animations and see them interact with stuff around them way more.

It's why sentinels get deactivated throughout a planet temporarily cause it's nit a feature as much as it is a limitation.
I also theorize that's the reason outposts dont get destroyed when pirates attack them.. Cause you'd come back and just see it fixed.
Only exception of any permanent influence across the game are player bases.

Guess we could, but we already have the EM generators, those provide lots of power and don't require batteries
They're buggy right now. If you start moving while you select them, you T pose or your animations grt frozen and you can more around like that forever until you select the emote and unselect it without moving.
A few comments. I do love this game so anything I say below is positive criticism rather than me being horrible.
1- Everything feels a bit clunky, especially the two menu systems via two buttons... but maybe that's just me... So many times I click the wrong menu when searching for stuff. And playing on controller it's a drag to move across the inventory screen, can we not perhaps have a box/panel click system so we can just press left/right/up/down to hop between items?
2- Can we PLEASE get an auto-sort button for inventory.
3 - Even if we can't have more biomes, can we at least vary the topography a bit more? Rivers, waterfalls, deep ravines, cave systems, mountains of varying intensity... As now it feels like every other planet is just a different coloured version of the last. Even despite the flora/fauna....
4 - more POI's on planets... maybe with I dunno really rare cometics or rare furniture like in Starbound/Terraria like I dunno chairs/tables that can only be found in Desert POI's or Lights that can only be found rarely in Swamp planets? Or costume parts relevant to planet types....
1 used to be so much worse. They vastly improved the inventory in Waypoint.

4 we get more points of interests with every few updates, like the sentinel pillars, echo camps etc.. My only criticism is that they all have one single model and aren't visually varied at all.

Thats preety easy to compromise with ship hunting. You need to work for custom ship by scraping ships and gathering random one time use part blueprints.You use scrap and trade items for part part. and the ship you build will be X class. So it can be worse than C or slightly better than S class. And it would give ship scrap and trade goods other use than sell

Player made space stations are super nice to see built, it's a shame they have to use bugs to build in such places, ||afaik anyway|| so maybe a way to build orbital space stations could be good

Cuz Shiphunters would still enjoy finding good combos of the natural classes (plus it'd be good if natural S class is better than most or all X class ships just so that there's more reasons to ship hunt)
For making ship you could also need the ship slot modules. You could also get pigment/paint from scraped ship to get the desired color.
Or just paying with nanits for color before assembling ship , like 75k nanites.

I wish planets were more lifelike ie crazy weather, and gas giants, more diverse animals and fauna (not just like 10-12 each) preferably like 30+ different fauna and flora each. procedurally generated Civilizations and cities etc actually on the planet. Possibly adding a large amount of procedurely generated new alien races(similar to how the flora and fauna are but overall more in depth).
Also add in underground aspects like deeper more in detail caves(imagine caves and cliffs minecraft update but in no mans sky) also introduce a mechanic to drill to the planets core and a multitude of new resources that can be obtained. Allowing for mining outpost(adding onto the current outpost system)
I would like to see space stations with more unique designs and overall a overhaul how space stations work(make them docking and fueling(credits) taxes) also have them produce specific items that can be more rare based on the system and to be able to acquire the item production you could initiate a battle and fight a large fleet(multiple waves) of the alien race that owns the station.
Another idea is adding in more automation for later game allowing for factories and acquiring large amounts of credits and potentially creating the ability to buy entire star systems allowing for progression of starting out with outposts and mining by yourself and moving your way up to being a complete corporation. Allowing for player to player trades as there can be products cheaper and a self sustaining economy. This would hinge on a significant amount of more worthwhile items added from the aforementioned potential updates.
This would also allow for the game not to expand into the T(teen rating) as it’s a lot more of a defined game with significantly more depth.
Put in actual villages and civilizations for each planet but maybe only next gen update BC old gen consoles can't handle that stuff probably
Yes I think it’s time games star abandoning old gen console support. It’s detrimental to the majority of next gen users. And the ideas I outlined are things a old console couldn’t run.

I think the frigates are a bit slept on. I was checking out my fleet earlier today and there are only some walkways, the landing pads, and some screens which serve a purpose anywhere else. On the pirate frigates there are 2 "Damaged Storage Modules" or whatever they're called (i forgor 💀) where if you interact with them you get a similar thing to the green cargo drop boxes where you have to remove something to gain access to the container, but there is nothing to remove. Furthermore, there is no visible area for where the crew could be, no place where one could at some point perhaps pilot the frigates, just like those ones that fly across a planet's surface sometimes.
you think frigates are slept on, animals can use their tools but the game doesn't even tell you what each tool does nor are cooking recipes worthy other than nanites. they just give haz protection.
I just want to own one of the new Dreadnoughts you fight in the freighter battles. They're awesome

For now no man sky just doesn’t feel like a game to put a lot of hours at least for me, I play it more like a game to kill some time because even if it has cool mechanics and story it just doesn’t really feel cool to grind on the same planet with a different color palette 15 times

@turbid portal Tons of planets have visual variety but the reason they all feel the same is because we mostly focus on the same buildings and assets we interact with.
If there's a variety update, the game would benefit so much more if existing content got variety instead of just adding new content like what Origins did.

maybe have temperate planets have more arid climates at their equator and arctic climates at their poles
It's not just more content per planet..
Dissonant planets are exactly that with content that no other planet has, but there's still the issue of "find one dissonant planet, you've seen them all" because they all have one model for echo camps with the same exact interaction, one model for the broken autophage with the same interaction etc...
Just, the actual content instead should be varied, not NEW content that gets old after the very first interaction, you know?
I basically want HG to do across the whole game what they did with asteroids and sentinel ships.
Even if they'd have to cancel all other updates for a whole year, I think an update like that would 100% be worth the wait.
I dunno if it would even be that big of an update really. It's not adding new content and functionality.. just giving existing models more variation.
Like, imagine knowledge stones having 50 models instead of one across the whole universe.. combine that with sentinel pillars, outposts, portals etc..
I don't think it would be more effort compared to brand new content and mechanics, but it would certainly have a much greater impact.
True, especially if they make everything randomized so they don't actually have to make 49 extra models for the knowledge stones.

I kind of doubt we will have another expedition this year. Probably one more medium-sized feature update this month or in November, then they will rerun old expeditions for the rest of year while they go on break in December
It would be cool to see massive amounts of automation... auto crafting, shipments, auto trading..
Maybe base defense and planet based piracy? Nore base modules with functions too... observatories and breeding facilities...
asteriod bases and player built space stations...
Add on to that, Let’s also get the ability to custom build ships to our desire. Picking which parts and salvaging material for it. Not just upgrade modules.
Also add more NPCs and civilizations to the planets and game overall. Also add a new S class Frieghter and think how cool a Elder Wand MT would be!
also while some may think it stupid but multitool combat is kinda jank so something like starfield combat would be nice also fighting something other than sentinels too but thats just me
there has to be, all the reruns were preceded by four expeditions weve only had 3 since the most recent rerun utopia, singularity and voyagers
It's cause your player casually jogs around snd the enemies are slowed down to make it fair.
But yeah it's really meh because of it.
Also the fact that sentines spawn EXACTLY where you're looking at all grouped together doesn't help either. I wish they showed up around you in intervals.
Add large quadrupedal player mechs (think like the corrupted quads but a lot bigger) specialized towards resource gathering.
Maybe even blimps..

This game clearly needs trash planets where instead of storms, the danger is garbage frigates dumping trash rain onto you.
Thatll be kinda not good as for everyone will avoid those places

a bonus could be that salvaged data and random installations spawns more there

Add three new tech for the exosuit so we can finally utilize every slot
it would be cool to be able to create your own guild, and claim a space station of a system or build a guild base, nad use the freighter to fight with your friends
How about making a station
I wish that:
- on foot combat was more in depth
- npc's had more animations, (it is goofy to me to see them repeat the same ones so frequently)
- the conversation option somehow had more "substance" rather than just select 1 of 4 options
- each faction had more of a presence when you explore around
- both in space and on planets
- can have it tied with your rank
- would be cool to see the outlaws flying around and sometimes the sentinels after them (you can choose which side to help - increasing/decreasing rank + giving small rewards)
- outlaw "gladiatorial space combat" - or a new faction
- would be cool if your ship/freighter got boarded and you could defend/attack/plunder from the inside
- there was an option to have a "defend your base event"
- more variety when it comes to exploring planet surface (in terms of gameplay loops)
- more quests, both overarching and radiant
- I wish you could befriend some npc explorers and see them out in the wild/meet up with them/group up potentially
- basebuilding options:
- have semi-underground sections (where terrain won't regenerate)
- npcs visit your base to buy and trade (rather than the market just invisibly change)
- have a snap to ground button to make life easier for you when placing objects
- an npc that rewards you for breeding specific types of creatures and hand them in to him/her (giving the player more of a reason to do so)
- meteors sometimes have unique things you can find (maybe for a questline, or collectable, etc.) (rather than just gold/silver/etc.)
- space stations had more going on, it feels very dead to me:
- npcs just standing idle not interacting with the environments,
- all space stations have essentially the same stuff/placement/look on the inside
- cosmic events
A bunch of these have been improved over time.
"on foot combat" especially got entirely overhauled from what it used to be..
stand still, sentinel stand still, exchange laser beam damage.. sentinel dies.. doesn't drop anything unique, no end goal, no rewards..
That's fair, but they can definitely be improved!
I’m building a gladiator pvp arena actually

The big thing about combat for me is that the player casually jogs around instead of entering a speedy combat mode or something.
So all the enemies are dumbed down to make it fair on the player moving really slowly, and the whole combat feels boring and slow because of it.
Maybe a sprint module could be added
im surprised thats not already in the game
speedy combat... when I was still playing on PS4 I could melee boost faster than the ground textures and flora could load in. I don't think the old platforms can handle even speedier combat
I'm excited by the radio silence though... really hoping we get the leaked [redacted] in the next update. I haven't had a big "wow" moment this year with NMS yet
Terrain loading used to be very bad different, it loaded in a fuzzy way and quite close to you.
Now terrain 'morphs' into existence and from much further away. I mean you can even see trees from your frigates now.
But yeah, last gen is really strugging with the game it seems. Dunno how much HG will be able to push their updates to them.
the addition of dynamic tessellation in the NEXT update is what really set back terrain texture loading on the less capable platforms, and they've never really recovered to their former glory since. IMO I think it was a mistake to put it on all platforms, but I suppose they wanted a unified aesthetic
i wanna be able to pilot my freighter
I wanna see the game developers add a system where people can make can make clans together and claim certain sections of a galaxy and we get to have a all out war and you get amazing rewards and certain planets will be more valuable then others so certain planets with be full of battle and chaos. They can also make so that players can go to a different galaxy to fight and other players can go to different galaxies to relax.
Everyone thinks piloting a freighter would be sooo awesome, but in reality it would be extremely slow and hard to maneuver. Games like X4 do capitals really well, but NMS is a different game completely. There would be no benefit to have a pilotable freighter, especially considering how the freighter is often worse in combat than the player fighter
I think its more of a qol thing not a fighter thing
Having a mobile base would just be awsome
But freighters are already mobile bases. You can already summon them wherever you want with no additional costs
Manual piloting would do nothing and it’d be terribly slow
Not to mention, I doubt the game can handle structures like those actually moving

Their engines are huge and space has no fruction x3
They’d be slow because of the sheer amount of mass they have
And they have little to no control thrusters, so they’d be able to go forward and that’s it
I know NMS doesn’t go for realism, but it’s pretty widely accepted that capital ships are slow af. Also, those big thrusters are hyperdrives.

Many of these have probably been said, but anyway - things that I would put in the game IF there was a "add to game automagically" button:
- The ability to claim a pirate capital ship as your own. Between 10-20% chance for the ship to open a communications line (instead of engaging the warp drive) offering you control of the ship as a substitute to destroying it.
- Modular ship building, where you can mix and match bits and colours of any ship you have flown before.
- Make it so you can own a station and customise what's in it, maybe a shipyard kind of thing where frigates can dock with the station or something idk... you could take the abandoned stations and rebuild it to your liking and make it a normal space station again, or an outlaw station, and you can add to it whatever you please customise all of it down to (metaphorically) the soil in the plant pots
- The ability to use assets from the NPC bases when building a base so small camps blend in with the landscape more seamlessly
- Atlas starships and perhaps some character customisations leading in that direction
- The starship trail technology would actually change the colour of the thruster exhaust from purple to something else so trails other than the stealth trail don't look straight up goofy
- A "sort inventories" button for storage modules 0-9. I want there to be a button where everything across those inventories, if there are stacks of the same item in multiple inventories, for that item to be put into as little stacks as possible. just handy to have.

Bind the turn off/on button to a key, pressit rapidly and watch the mech do squats.
Sit right behind the mech as he does squats to give NMS an 18+ rating.

I think more planets devoid of fauna or flora, with occasional space ports could help break up the repetition of the basic tropes/builds that you start to see everywhere, as well as making a planet with life feel more special. About balance or stranding players: players could have the option of traveling to a space port or calling with a transponder to get picked up, then at the port you could get a shuttle to the space station or a planet with life

also previous expedition is available at the end of each year's rotation
sand planets would be nice to have, but this was alredy suggested over the years
maybe a convenient way to get them would be like a subclass of the barren (desert) worlds but with low amount of mineral and flora, and with sandier textures
Worm egg is an item that can be traded between players, so if you can play MP just find a player with one and trade for it

Yeah, just make that soil texture the main type of texture on certain worlds an you pretty much have sand worlds

i think being able to unlock the ability to replay expeditions from the quicksilver shop is the best idea

They also seem to be like testbeds for upcoming content.
Often times they add new stuff in an expedition, remove it, and then the next content update includes it again in the vanilla experience.
..Though sometimes they're useless, like cursed dust, echo seeds and something else I'm forgetting..
They exist in the game but have absolutely no functionality outside of the expeditions they were originally a part of.

It probably is black, but freighters just have so much surface area the light kinda messed up the color

I did that too.. and then just spiralled to my death in space.. honestly not unsatisfying..
But isn’t that why we have all the layers of protection, and life support
