There. Finished Jack the Ripper DLC. It was...meh.

The story wasn't compelling. I found the character shoe horned in and the objectives largely designed to waste your time rather than engage with the story. It did not inspite of this detract from the overall story, but I would've probably not finished the main story at all had I done the Ripper DLC before finishing it - Simply because it includes spoilers to the main plot in the DLC. This is something they don't tell you going in.

The brutality gimmick was a nice touch. The fear element would've been nice in the main game. I'd also have suggested they modify it to make enemies react in more than just fear....Or manifest their expression of fear in more than running away and cowaring.

People do fucked up shit when they're scared. I enjoyed the chaos fear created and wanted to see it more fleshed out.

Alas, it was not. It was....a gimmick

The costume was badass though.

That final fight was a bitch to do

Harder than the main games final fight

Worth getting on deep sale.

Also none of the DLC detracts from the enjoyment of London. So far, my favorite setting in the games series

I'm trying to give benefit of the doubt thinking that the game is actually just difficult to develop for (which is understandable, its a voxel-based procedurally generated world game, it's gonna be tough), but it's still kinda annoying that I'm seeing more microtransactions than anything else being added. Any time I've brought this up in the main discord for Astroneer I'm met with "well they gotta make money somehow" and "if you dont like it just dont buy it".||

But, that's just me. It doesn't detract from the game being a very good experience, I don't regret the buy.

Ironically the seasonal, seasonal content, like Halloween or Solstice, was never behind any pay wall.

Astroneer is nothing like NMS. The game is basically explore to get resources to get tech to explore to get resources to get tech to power planetary stations that serve as hubs for each planet, move to next planet, repeat

Its end game is very ...lacking

Don't get me wrong. Astroneer is fun.

Just don't expect to put 1/10th the time into it that NMS demands for it to feel rewarding

It gets old pretty fast.

It's a game that benefits greatly from Multiplayer, though (what game doesn't?)

Metroids were artificial beings created to destroy an otherwise unkillable parasite, and they have the unique ability to drain life/energy from pretty much anything. Samus has Metroid DNA as a result of the Chozo, and the Metroid vaccine she got in fusion also plays a part. Since Dread, she is insanely strong now since the DNA awakened, letting her drain energy the same way Metroids do. Its hard to say if it got quelled tho per the ending.||

I can see what you were saying about the parkour in Unity being better than the other AC games. I tried my damndest to make it look unnatural but there are so many transitional animations for the parkour in Unity, it's like they designed the game around its movement system - To make verticality more enjoyable.

Other AC games lack options for transitional animations whilst getting around, so the animations do get a little old and feel less organic.

Also the additional options for getting around obstacles is nice without needing me to navigate so much whether I'm holding shift+e or shift+w...At ground level shift is all you need to maneuver under and over basic objects

Something that was lacking in AC Syndicate (you needed to hold shift+W to go over objects or shift+E to descend them)

It's a minor change but a welcome one.

I had to max the camera sensitivity and using a mouse with DPI override that lets me supe that shit up...So that's more managable. Combat in Unity is more challenging and I find the enemies telegraph with less warning between blows. Challenging but not insurmountable. Really enjoying it so far.

I've done about half a dozen missions in Unity. So far, it's slowly inching ahead of Syndicate in terms of gameplay fun. The only thing Syndicate seems to have on it and something I suspect isn't going to change - Vehicles. Too many NPC in the streets to really use vehicles, but that is neither here nor there. Combat is smooth, challenging, engaging, chaotic....the enemies absolutely do not wait for you to be ready for them. You're ready or dead. The perfect cooked egg.

Camera controls are still horse shit, but that is to be expected in such cramped spaces...gotta keep your head on a swivel just to avoid getting shot in the head by some random

had to lower res to 800x600, at 1080p i get like 23fps

and even at that res, it's not managing to hit my usual 60 and 14ms frame time

If there are more classes, just introduce them into the game

engine upgrades, although takes a lot of work, is possible

On the other they might have even more ambition into the title, so I am just conflicted
