Penumbra was horrifying. My first horror game. It felt so scary. I couldn't play it long. Had to take breaks. Decided some years ago, "Let's try 'Outlast'". I made it to the literal first jump scare where a body fell out of the ceiling...dropped the mouse in fright. I looked at the computer screen. My character was staring at the ceiling and knowing what I was in for, I quit the game and uninstalled.
I don't like jump scares. They're the cheapest kind of scare. They're infuriating.

The Dreadful Crimes DLC is kinda cool so far for Syndicate.
It's an investigation mini game where you have to figure out who committed a murder by revealing clues and piecing together the events. Reminds me of the PC game CSI.

Watching trailer for this Embers Adrift. Does not look horrible, but the lack of NPC makes the world look empty.
ESO got me because the story was compelling to me. All I see with embers right now is a tech demo.
$50 to buy the game, and it's a subscription model.
In this particular genre (MMORPG, Subscription based), presentation is absolutely key. Saying a game is a sandbox mmorpg with no building mechanics, a developer might as well be saying "we didn't bother". There are already subscription MMORPG that offer more and so it's going to be difficult to float a sub model offering less.
I'm currently watching the release schedule for Ashes of Creation
The developers moved the entire game to Unreal Engine 5
Excited to see what UE5 can do for MMORPG, as I expect soon future development will all be about the kind of technologies this engine provides.

Lost Ark I found surprisingly well made. If you enjoy exploration, it has exploration in spades. The story isn't bad, either. It's simple and moves forward and it is designed to push you toward the repeatable elements of the game that are dungeons and group events.

I would caution you though to simply enjoy the game early on. Maybe grab a map on where to find the koko seeds or whatever they are called, so you don't need to keep backtracking later to get them but other then that...take your time, get to 50 then focus on gear and the like

Lost Ark as a dozen or so mini games in it that it only really gently suggests early on...Those chests often just have cards in them or basic gear that's trash.
Nothing you get gear wise is going to be worth doing more than scrapping for components until 50 unless it's super rare
Once you get to 50 and can make serious gear, you will use those components you have been collecting for crafting and repairs
The card game in Lost Ark actually rewards your character with swappable buffs depending on whatever cards you end up pairing together
They can be incredibly powerful buffs, too
After 50 you are introduced to an ability that lets you slot your gear with buff stones as well.
The stones are a whole other game of gem cutting and matching
I don't want to overwhelm though. Enjoy the game. It's an elephant. One bite at a time.
