This gives me an idea for a game. You basically play in the headspace of NPC guards for stealth combat games. Your job is to monitor the guards mental processes for what motivates their decisions to look or move in particular areas and adjust their motivations to close the gaps in security that allow the protagonist in the story to sneak past them. The end result is tighter security but perhaps a far more unstable life cycle for the employees of your security business.

So far these games have made me absolutely love open world exploration:

Every open world game I've played has either been okay or I just liked the other things in the game rather than that

Personally I like open world games. More the merrier. If they start to suck, I don't blame the genre but the failure of a developer to realize any focused ideas or functionality.

The Long Dark isn't an open world game but it also drives the sense of personal exploration so much, like making your own map of the area and having no guide on where to go
HZD is a great game but it's also being too broadly appealing like NMS

I haven't played Elden Ring, but the variety of "boss" fights looks impressive...and by variety I mean true variety not just different skins
When I watched a dude jump into the sky and come back as a meteor on video, I was truly surprised
Reminded me of some of the boss fights in FF7

My only complaint with how those introductions work...They aren't always dynamic in the sense you could have avoided them if you'd known better. I've literally seen video of enemies spawning just off camera over the characters head and dropped on you

I never played much of Darksouls 1. I found the mechanics very annoying. It wasn't difficult in the traditional sense of, you need skill. It was difficult in a more systemic way like the entire game was designed by someone masturbating furiously to quicktime events.
