If you can eat the loss of $45 on a game that may not ever be finished for the experiences it provides now, which include some planetary landing, some exploration, some space combat and a gorgeous universe - Maybe. If you can't, absolutely not...and if you bought it expected it to be finished any time soon, absolutely not.

It is interesting to explore an incomplete world and look at things like the stock market that currently don't function

I look at the development cycle of a similarly aged title: The Long Dark which promised 5 chapters in the story at launch and to date has only ever released 4 after over 7 years...I kind of regret the purchase, but I also understand some of the set backs and they still have pushed out most of the game (which is more than I can say for SC)...Not to mention the game does have a fully realized survival mode.

I get the same vibes from SC, but a higher price tag.

Basic mechanics function in the long dark and have for a very long time

Something as simple as the equivalent of "pulse jumping" in SC isnt even fully functional

It punishes you for dying even if its the fault of a bug

I loaded a Freelancer with cargo, spending all my money for a large profit at destination and I collided in supercruise with an invisible object. I died was given a 45 minute respawn timer at station after which all cargo is ofc gone making me also broke. Any complaint was returned with "its an alpha"; an alpha that has fully functional punishment mechanic 😝

Easy way to get a significant sum of money. Goto trader and check global price rates on (example: iron), buy up the cheapest one where it's available and go to the area where it costs the most to sell it all.

There's always someone with a buy order who does not want to travel around to get it

it's like separating out mining & lumberjacking, which while i understand have different nuances in reality, they could be more easily approximated with strength in a game

Very dungeons and dragons. You have a base set of stats, which have a impact on base skills. So you can say be a axe user, in battle, due to strenght, but this gives you better logging effectiveness

i remember waaay back when i played runescape liking those systems, but looking at them now, i'm just like, "that was a clever, devious way to pad out playtime huh"

with stats

That way you still need to be good at a skill, but your stats can just make you more effective with less practive

Thats something a few early rpgs had. Where say with logging your skill unlocked new methods. I think programmers arent patient enough to develop such deep systems now. Nor would it be easy

Like in one game, you started with a hatchet, then a axe, then you had horse logging, then you had multi person tools that two people could log together, then all kinds of log splitting tools

mind you this was 19 years ago

games were as graphically complex

I remember the early days of Wow, where they constantly kept the crafted goods in balance with the loot. Over time, they stopped, because it was to much development time.

I loathe the fact efficiency has degraded games so much

Daemon x Machina, for instance, has this weird system where you can sorta craft different mech weapons/parts to stock up a shop, using some of what you loot to manufacture them, but the problem here is: what's produced & what's in the shop thereafter is basically always worse than what you can loot

Seriously, my homemade bread is always going to be 100 times better then a store

I still can't really figure out what they were going for with all that tbh, as I'd think you'd just stock up the shop with what you encounter, but they actually make you manufacture what the shop can hold first

And there's a cost to manufacture besides just a looted item, and you have to buy the stuff from the shop obvs and...It's silly

I think the idea was meant to make more sense if you were to dabble with PvP or something, but even then, very strange

tho tbh it makes roundabout sense, as you gotta have something to draw people to different activities, so crafting can't be able to produce best of the best, and activities can't just redirect you to crafting with resource rewards, or so the thinking appears to go

Imagine leveling gathering allows you to better handle the wood, raising the quality of the components for material purposes

I liked Life Is Feudal. The trees had quality levels

You could usually tell a good tree from a bad by looking at it, too

Avoided cutting down the ones I didn't want...Young ones, really old ones, etc

Mostly tackled the healthier middle age ones for lumber in the summer
