Absolutely amazing album. You have to listen to it in order though, all the way through.

I think it's best to have some form of military, but depending on your faction it can be very hard to even start a war. Pretty sure there's a lot of non military victory types too

Just read, there's a federation win. Basically you need to be in a federation that controls 60% of systems. So basically you can win by making enough friends

i was going for a non-military run and then an asteroid came hurtling towards one of my worlds leaving me with next to no option but to throw together a small squad to try to eliminate it before impact

Yeah you need some amount of military ships, but the starting fleet can kill that

A little combat is inevitable but you can entirely avoid war I'm pretty sure

up to that point though it felt like there wasn't much happening besides surveying and building new colonies

It gets quite in depth with diplomacy (lawmaking, voting on issues on a galactic council etc)

it creates a forcefield you can shoot through

but its not guaranteed that you have that

the best tip i can give you to pack a smg or something to clear the seeking projectiles

Also note that as long as the first one is up the second one will not use its spear to attack

so you just have to watch for the projectiles
