@sonic vigil Subnautica is always a great option. Journey to the Savage Planet is a goofy but fun exploration game (Its photo mode is fun to mess around with). Star Explorers is an interesting game that's a bit on the small side but its combination of weird graphics and ambiance makes it unintentionally scary.

That's a bit of a harder find...Astroneer may come closest to it, though it lacks the free flying space travel aspect. Outer Wilds is also pretty close, albeit being story driven, it does eventually end, and it's only the one star system

The main story always follows the host, so MP members miss out on content, or worse the host misses critical content and doesn't know what's going on because another player picked up a story element needed to progress, without them there to witness it
So while the story continues, there's a real sense of disconnect when running it MP...and pacing is a nightmare when running MP with a single story. Everyone wants to explore and the game is just not designed for it.

eh, the design and whether or not it's good is subjective. The main reason I people tend to dislike a design is because it's different and unique and strays away from the previous designs.
I like the design
so, think of it as a work of art, like a 3D sculpture. People will be drawn toward it and like it for some or no particular reason, and others will dislike it for possibly no reason at all besides the fact that it just doesn't vibe with them.
