yeah same with other storefronts. So far I'm seeing the usual stuff discounted which is cool, but was curious if anyone else had been digging through them
It's just another store after all.
I mean I make use of GOG & Itch besides Steam personally, because nearly every other storefront tends to include some bullshit DRM or aren't clear about it
Like Microsoft Store is notorious for shitty DRM & Epic just isn't transparent about it at all
Literally every shitty fkn randy pitchford etc forgets, that steam is not, in fact, just another store.
why are you going on a weird pro-monopoly rant, lol
They can very well lose another dev like wolfire, cause there will be many others willing to replace them. Steam is simply a better platform to worth both on, and with.
pro-monopoly? Dunno about that.
But hearing all these stupid idiots claim, that "steam's just another store".
That's just factually wrong.
and I feel Wolfire portrays that very well.
They know that, that's why they think they can change margins at home, cause they know they'd be losing on literally everything steam offers if they'd just ditch it for micro/epic.
ESPECIALLY, when their shitty tech demos rely so heavily on Steam Workshop. :D
their argument is primarily that valve/steam is anti-competitive in its policies, lol
Oh I'm sure that's what's this is all about. Poor poor devs. True beacon of hope, true heroes finally stepping out to evil steam and their anti-competitive policies
okay we get it you just don't like this random indie dev
because wanting a better revenue cut is so terrible?
especially if all they have in their portfolio is 3 tech demos and a rather neat game.
1 of which relies heavily on steam workshop, cause it's just a giant ass playground, and it's been kept alive for the past 4 years thanks to dev organised "map jams", aka players making content.
Cause 70% of sales still goes to them. It's the sales themselves that have been rather lacking I feel.
Wonder why that is. Oh, you've been making one game for 10 years, then riding off of it for another 4? I wonder why is that.
so again you're going to disregard their point just because you don't like them, cool
And you're going to shit on everything I've been typing cause you don't like steam. Coolio as well.
No, I'm just not seeing you even acknowledging the validity of their points because you dislike them, and while I'll grant you Steam is more than a storefront, that doesn't make its policies any more defensible.
This is like defending Apple's App Store monopoly because it makes some neato platform interconnections through its devices
You have literally the best possible tools on the market, the most recognition, been here the longest for a fkn reason, I feel you have every right to charge whatever the hell you please.
Well I don't find that a valid argument whatsoever, lol
and seriously, if you don't like said terms, you force devs to "artificially bump prices up", devs are more than welcome to use one of several other storefronts as well.
Notice "as well" too, cause nothing forces anyone to exclusivity.
Except apparently you'll get harassed for only releasing on other storefronts if you have any passing popularity
But eh, steam bad I get it.
And if you do run on Steam, you can apparently get tied into agreements forcing you into certain pricing arrangements
🍿
Honestly I just don't see why you're so defensive of Steam, lmao
They have like, hundreds of millions of dollars, they don't even need you
(Billions maybe? I dunno)
OR, devs like wolfire. :D
Defo billions
I just found the story funny and neat.
How they just won't ditch steam, but will try their best to again "eat cake and have cake".
Well I appreciate you sharing it because I'm glad to see more pushback against Steam, because apparently free market competition, as noted in the article, isn't doing the job
In part because of weirdo Steam loyalists
it does kinda blow that my launcher library in few years is going to surpass some of those launchers game libraries.
As for loyalism, I'm usually going with the cheapest platforms. Used my 40pln code on World War Z, paid like equivalent of around 3 dollars on epic.
With the right tools, you can adjust your games to run through your preferred launcher & only that launcher, so there's always that 😏
Bought several ubisoft titles as well, cause uplay codes are miraculously much cheaper than steam ones.
So dunno about that.
Yeah i'm not singling u out, just the weirdos mentioned in the article
Got Satisfactory on epic too, but that was mostly cause shitty exclusives. Plus got another code, so it was like basically 50% off.
wait wtf, why is Little Hope in the Golden Week sale, lmao
That's not Japanese
Oh yeah been browsing that list, and the further you go the funnier it gets.
there is some good stuff there tho, true. like chrono trigger, Death Stranding, Yakuzas, Personas, Nekoparas if you're into that.
Also Evil Within 2, 1 I think too, dunno how japanese these are.
Jedi Fallen Order as well, Automata, but that's to be given.
Disco Elysium 20% off, dunno if that's part of japanese week.
Don't think so, cause it ends in 12 hours.
Chrono Trigger is the bad port tho I think
Steam do be like that ye. It does suck with its ports mostly.
Evil Within 1/2 are mainly there since Res Evil dude worked on them I'm p. sure
That's when steam forums come to help. Epic? HINT HINT?
Seriously, lack of forums is what still makes me chuckle.
All these EA titles relying on steam forums to gather feedback. That or third party sites.
random reminder that killer7 was ported awhile back:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/868520/killer7/
I mean the Steam forums are also notorious for being terrible, so
Mostly due to lack of moderation I feel, ye.
Or too much moderation. In the hands of devs as well. :D
Aka that situation's in the hands of devs I mean. Gotta either ease the belt a little, or tighten it up.
or just not bother, lmao
Or that, then it's open season. :D
Also I know I mentioned R-Type Dimensions EX earlier, but also on sale atm is the classic, Ikaruga:

oh bayonetta's 75% off.

Katamari Damacy apparently is on steam as well.

Yo it actually looks kinda fun.
Like Skyshine's Bedlam, only you know. Good, maybe.
Ehh. Apparently it has problems with micromanagement.
according to random folks probs, could be fine for you or me or anyone else tho
Little King's Story is also on sale atm, it's maybe the closest to Pikmin you'll find on other platforms
The reviews are mainly from before they patched it to play better on PC
Oh also:
free on gog atm.
i don't think i'll ever fully understand this:

God that game is such shit 🤣
i would love to see them patch it up tho tbh
the art direction is so fuckin' interesting
but it's probably gonna go down like Left Alive where everyone shits on it so much it's lucky to even get two post-release patches

Today, we're releasing our largest drop of games featuring FPS Boost to date, bringing the total titles boosted to 97, many of which are included in @XboxGamePass and @EAPlay (included with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription). https://t.co/eCyB8KgAbQ
Holy shit
Pretty scummy by Sony, but let's not pretend Epic were doing anyone a favour here - as they've proved with Apple, the only thing that motivates them is extracting more money from Fortnite
The fact Epic were willing to make such large concessions highlights just how much money they thing that they can still squeeze out of fortnite
The Fortnite part doesn't bother me as much as the second tweet
Depends on the context - who does that tariff apply to?
If it's games Sony has funded or invested in, seems fair to me.
Also depends what it applies to - if they're just taking a cut of e.g. cosmetics sales, again that seems fair
LMFAOOOOOO
nuuh!
ripped zug
Yeah
swole zug with the cuts
@glacial ridge this
The flying things
Yeah... That's what I sent a pic of
Exotic planet? I don't know what is this 😅
That picture you sent is one
So it's an exotic planet 🤔, thanks for this information!
Epic spent $11,000,000 in 2019 with a return of just 5 million users
Not sure which side of the trial presented these numbers, but it makes the apple tax seem like a real good deal
5 million users or 5 million dollars
5 million users
that's data i'd be more interested in seeing
numbers like these mean basically zero without other context
Sure, but it's pretty well documented among developers that iOS and Mac users are more willing to pay for things by an order of magnitude
There we go, found the number for apple
$2.04 per user
Epic's free game campaign, $2.37 per user
So Apple are providing a 14% better return
Is that how much they spend or how much each user needs to spend to even out
Your saying lots of numbers
How much epic spends to acquire each user
Without explanation
it's how much they spent per user over a year of making deals with devs, based on the data in the pic. I'd be interested to see actual totals of users before and after, especially for more recent data, not for 1.5 years ago
ya i don't expect to see it lol
but it's hard to make any sort of assumptions of anything based on older data that leaves out so much important context/data
The takeaway is, if apple are providing a better ROI than their own marketing campaigns
And the usual pattern of iOS users being bigger spenders holds
They've got a fucking mountain to climb if they want a court to force apple to cut the fees to 15% or lower
i feel like it would be weird to specifically target their free games campaign given that they literally own the engine that a giant amount of AAA games use these days. You'd think that would be the larger income chunk as well as any transactions via fortnite
Well, this is apple running the case at the moment
They're gonna be cherry picking the information that makes them look best
Epic will do the same when it's their turn
yea of course, i just don' tsee how it would be a mountain to climb to point that out, given their other massive revenue streams. but at the end of the day it's just two massive companies trying to get percentage points out of the other
even if Epic wins I can't see it being a broadly applicable policy for Apple, they might just make an exception
Because, the principal of a civil court case is to make you whole following a wrong
Not to improve your own standing
The court isn't permitted to require Apple to do anything that makes things better for Epic - just if Apple are found to be in the wrong, to remedy that wrong
So if Epic are benefitting from the relationship in real terms, it's going to be extremely difficult to prove that their business is suffering
But they must think they're onto something otherwise they wouldn't have filed
(Not having as much money as they'd like is not a wrong, either - else I'd just sue my bank cause the savings interest rate isn't 1000%)
i haven't been tuned into this in a while but from what i remember there were some discrepancies somewhere that Apple had an explanation for
it was a pretty shitty explanation but I imagine it sufficed as "fair" lol
Personally I do wonder if they were hoping that apple would just cave
Or they'd win in the court of public opinion
Turns out, Epic aren't seen as the plucky outsider now they're turning over more money than almost any other studio
Whodathunkit
it is annoying cause the idea of cutting the store costs is good but unfortunately the only people that have the money to fight it don't really have strong grounds to stand on because they have the money lol
If game developers hadn't set the new price of AAA games at £50 a pop I'd be inclined to agree
The whole system is due a shakeup
But as long as people keep on forking over cash for VBucks it won't happen
$70 AAA games cause me pain 💀
in an idealist world you could say they only raised the price due to high percentages going to the stores but we all know they'd still do it even if the costs went down lol
just would be nice to make it a little better for indies and smaller devs
don't realy care about the health of the AAA industry but unfortunately they're usually the ones dictating the market
The real insult for me is that paying the £50 doesn't even get you a whole game any more
It's more like £100 once the DLC is accounted for
But people keep paying it
Myself included
depends on the franchise but in a lot of cases yea. i just have slinked slowly away from AAA stuff outside of some things I know I enjoy regardless. like zelda and some others i can't even think of lol
I rarely pay full price for stuff, usually I cheat and get $20 or whatever knocked off of it through Microsoft Rewards. Tho I uh, may have pre-ordered Mass Effect Legendary Edition from Best Buy for the steelbook 😆
Total revenue for epic was $5,100,000,000 in 2020
that puts them a few percent behind EA
88% of that, fortnite
Only 7% of EGS users have paid for something
EGS has 20mm users
just trying to figure out how they define mm
mm is latin for million, who knew
fortnite had 81,000,000 active users in 2020, so if EGS has only 20,000,000, that means more than 75% of their users come from iOS, Android or console - again, a hard sell that apple's stance is harming them
epic overestimated their 2019 revenue by nearly 50%
Honeslty, with the cost to develop franchises, I wontbe surprised to see games cost 100 for a triple A game by 2030.
I mean it makes sense. The assets they are making are drastically more time consuming to create, as are the environments, the tools, the engines.
Then you have to factor in inflattion.
Though with the quality of smaller studios increasing, as baseline tools get better and better, I have very few AAA games anymore.
I've just been enjoying a lot more indie games since they tend to have a lot of cool concepts and visuals imo
mm is also millimeters, which may be able to measure how little I care about egs financials 🧑🚒
Too much stuff I'm twitching
It is a very flashy game, haha
I no hud almost every game I play (at least usually) I just can't process all that for long periods
how do you not die?
Lol
Who says I don't?
For shooters, you get in the habit of reloading often, for nms it doesn't matter much - and some games do unobtrusive overlays that don't bug me, like a little compass, or minimap

I redownloaded Kingdoms of Amalur cuz the remaster is shit and I want nothing to with it, lol. Gonna see if I can get into the original
do you own the remaster?
@crystal gyro i was getting into it, but weird quest bugs and cutscenes and crowds were pretty bad on my old Xbox - I haven't jumped back on it with the new one
i own the ip tbh @bronze wind
Hell no, be arsed with paying $40 for a resolution and texture boost
nice please make a sequel
ok bbiab
and ok was just asking cause i saw a couple people online who were like "i own the remaster but playing the original to spite them" as if they care lmao
makes sense to get it if you haven't played the original but otherwise nah
Ew, fuck rewarding lazy remasters
Yeah, im with @thorn dawn on this. The state of the 2 games following the same timeline, NMS actually had a content release, not just bug fixes. I hear a lot of complaints on CP77 is the content is also just shallow with no real outlook for improvement
Was the same for me on PS5, 3 minutes into the game the guy reaches into a car engine and clips his hands through a bundle of wires, pulls out a janky looking wire, and plugs it in somewhere else, texture unchanging
I noped out
I made it through more than that, but the result was the same, I couldn't take it
People keep wanting it to have a "NMS comeback," but that would need some kind of precedent for new content
I'm sure it'll be good to play, but I want to experience it without the jank
they'll probably just add a DLC with another character arc that requires you to either replay the entire game to experience in a way that makes sense or will be so disconnected from the main game that it feels off
I wanted to love it, as I think it's the closest thing to a decent shadowrunner game I'll get
Yeah, sad one that. That game looked so awesome and promising
Not counting the old school versions
it was super satisfying to play in combat too, just the progression elements of it suffered big time, and the reliance on playing in a group
i loved the little I played of it but the scaling and lack of incentive to keep going killed it for me
Navigation was fun
i wish they dind't just give you weapons tho, kinda boring to be in a mech suit and use guns lol
wait you know of the recent Shadowrun trilogy right? Or are those "the old school versions"?
like i'd rather unlock arm cannons or something instead of a generic black machine gun
I do not, pc?
what if it has neon @bronze wind
sold
ah, PC & mobile, didn't realize they had a mobile version
Sad
since they're tactical RPGs they might not be too bad on mobile tbh
NEWS: Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of The Witcher 3, has left CD Projekt following allegations of workplace bullying, Bloomberg has learned. An investigation found him "not guilty" but he quit and apologized to staff "for all the bad blood I have caused” https://t.co/wienPiDGJy

Curious. Why was this investigation made public? That's fucking insulting.
I'd quit too if my employer was using me to gain street cred in the public eye for tackling workplace toxicity.
There's a reason human resources isn't a public facing institution within a business.
He was found not guilty but that means that he gets the joy of working side by side with his accuser and it won't make a lick of a difference what some human resources manager said or did to exonerate him of the accusation unless and until the person that accused him was made an example of...Which has the added disadvantage of discouraging people from even bothering with reporting workplace bullying. It wouldn't necessarily if HR didn't have so many god damn leaks that the entire ship could sink on the shitty PR
He made it public himself.
Seriously?
Source cited in the article is a whole company email written by the guy.
It's more than possible to be a complete asshole to work with and not be 'guilty' of workplace bullying too
Agreed. Like...leaking HR issues to the public
At the end of the day, if he identifies his own behaviour as problematic, I'm gonna trust him.
I'm not sure that a lack of trust is what is at odds.
Though and to be fair...chemistry is a thing.
You can be perfectly nice and still lend poorly to a culture which breeds toxicity.
It would be reasonable if he was the victim of a culture of individuals trying to remove him passively, he might decide to leave and throw their bullshit arguments back up in their faces.
I only hope some media outlet doesn't decide to use this to propagate the cancel culture conspiracy
I got the miitopia demo for my lil sis and I
Militopia?
Friday Night Fights?
Close sorta
Friday night funkin.
My team has chuck Norris, Jesus and Gandalf
It was funny as hell cause Jesus became friends with me and Chuck Norris is furiously shaking in the window and says, and I quote "it's always jesus!"
I've only seen freddies wtf ever it is passively. I hate cheap jump scares. If I'm going to destroy brain cells and risk a heart attack, I want psychological trauma...Not shit in my pants.
I haven't played them
DDLC is a cheap Jumpscare but a good psych thriller.
Miitopia is a Nintendo Switch game
Like sure there's scary face and loud sound and shit.
But it's the attachment you may get on a character only for you to continuously feel bad to borderline traumatized.
That game messed me up. I wish I still had the twitch recording.
The audio went along the lines of
Me: oh... wh-WHAHUH?!?!?!?!
my friend: ooogh..... that's....
Me: WHAT the FUUCK?!
Then I cried for like 10 minutes
It's a good game and it's been a few years so the hype is gone and the Fandom is frail if you wanna look into it.
Nintendo always knows how to play to my mental issues
Oof this game was not that.
That was the DDLC I was talking about
Doki Doki Literature Club.
Miitopia is fun and funny af
I will never play DDLC.
The demo is too generous. You get a whole first map to play on.
I stopped playing GMUDs in the 90s
Understandable.
It sucked that my favorite character has the most gruesome outcome.
GMUD?
I never could get into those novel games.
Though, I didn't mind that one about the girl who could warp time
I forget what it's called now...
It's full of annoying QTE
Life is Strange
Yeah
I think
I like all of David Cage's moviegames
Captain Spirit was good. I enjoyed that.
The consequential gameplay mechanic blew my mind the first time
I just wish it wasn't tied to QTE
There's a new LiS coming out soon, I think
The only thing worse than QTE are QTE during scenes you actually want to watch.
I originally wanted it cause I have a thing for dumb gimmicks.
Like touch the thing that has the interactive effect
Or QTE that is super consequential but Heavy Rain really worked with that.
The whole scene where he had to cut his finger off and the control was pulsing like a heart. The triggers felt like a springtrap.
The way the 'dragon' type icon is written in Pokémon looks a lot like 'Oragon' IMO
I'd spoiler that but like. The game was 10 years ago
There was an open world Naruto game back on the 360 and PS3 that legit had bizarre cinematic boss fights that were literally just 5+ minutes of QTEs, and if you fucked up you died and started over
Pa Rappa the Rapper?
Heavy Rain
Parappa boss fight be like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xGWTL93teI
I had a very obsessive hyperfixation on Heavy Rain. Gutted the thing.
Found out you couldn't kill the protag or the antag till the end
Like I was wondering how that would work.
It doesn't even happen.
Scenes where they clearly should have died they come out in extreme danger but that's it.
Like this guys hands are tied to the steering wheel and the car is now 6 feet underwater and you magically make it out. Call Me dark but that upset me
You make your game out to have so many different outcomes and there's actually an asterisk with fine print
It's a terrific game for a blind playthrough though
Oops text wall
Sorry
Go for it, love the enthusiasm
^
Enthusiasm Heart Level: Adequate.
Aaaaaaaa 🥺😭💖
Know what I think is hilarious, in the bad movie/actor category?
Nicholas Cage
Oh lord yes

Travolta too on some movies.
Nicholas Cage likes the Dresden Files so much that he made a movie that's a better Dresden Files than the tv series
Wot
Oh, lol
I love actors who are geniunely good, but also terribly bad. Just like a random roll of the dice.
Apparently he asked the author for permission, but it didn't go through
Cage is wonderful
All the memes
I mean, NOT THE BEES, priceless
Or
FLIP HAIR!
So how is everyone this fine day?
Dresden Files had the misfortune of being selected for a Sifi tv series
I think Butcher is reluctant to do tv/movies after that
Never did watch dresden files
Hrmm, then again, never big on shows with magic mostly
It's an ok crime drama with low-key magic as the gimmick
It's just a bad dresden files, if you get me
The book series is fantastic after the first 1-2, though
Nice condensed reads with a ludicrous amount of attention to detail, and good characterization
Also has several comic book sets, and short story compilations
Oh, and it evolves.
It doesn't get stuck in an episodic formula forever
Why is that so rare in long series
And he gets more emotional response from killing a side character than grrm gets from killing off half the main cast
Oh god, I just remembered a show that jumped the shark hard
The Dead Zone
Heh
Went from "guy wakes from coma, gets the ability to get visions from objects, decides to help the police." To "Amateur psychic detective goes to DC to prevent the election of the antichrist" or something like that
Alright lads, who wants to hear a story about the worst development hell in the shortest time period that I've ever seen?
Well, this is text and I hate TTS
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
-June 2020: Paradox confirmed any content designer Chris Avellone had contributed to the game would be removed following allegations of sexual assault.
-Later that month, lead narrative designer Brian Mitsoda and creative director Ka'ai Cluney were fired from the action-RPG project, with the former saying the decision by Hardsuit and Paradox "came as a shock" and that he had "never been led to believe that he hadn't succeeded" in his role.
-October 2020, Paradox confirmed senior narrative designer Cara Ellison had left the project and was no longer working with Hardsuit.
-A couple months ago Paradox canceled new pre-orders and stripped the game from the studio entirely
Now it has no release date
@austere lance was that kick-started?
I don't think so?
Bah, Im sad about Chris Avellone
He really did amazing work
Shame hes a @@$#
Such is life I suppoose.
Senua, as requested
thanks!
Yw
This will be. The best dinosaur zoo
Any zoo with an entire bbq area is good right lmao
Why is it sideways
Damn I love Murkmire.
Turns out the worst part about it is it's length.
aka it's a smaller dlc, so content's rather limited.

Waaaa I reached the "buy the full game you heathen" part of the demoooo
There's still 2 weeks till it's outttt
Also right before the Demo ended Chuck Norris and Jesus fell in love.
What a twist
@raw sorrel moving here since it's getting off topic; have you heard of the game Starship Evo?
Heard of it, but not really familiar
it lets you build huge spaceships with full interiors and you can actually fly them around like the little ones in NMS
and it's getting planets soon
yeah. I enjoyed it quite a bit
it's pretty early in development though and is basically only creative mode
was kind of annoyed with how fiddly moving bits were, but the mirror tool is amazing
you can also make your own vehicles and mechs
That's why I mentioned StarMade, as you can build ships from the ground up too, but also includes logic and whatever else.
did they add mechs back in?
yeah I played StarMade a while ago, but last I checked, it didn't have good reviews
Evo lets you stick all the programming blocks in tuck-away drawers, lol
@charred badge oh idk; I have access to Starship Evo on Steam but I haven't been playing it; I'm hesitant to commit to building something so early on in the game because it may be lost with an update
It has been out for a very long time, which is normal for Early Access titles, but can annoy impatient players. Gone through loads of changes, not always appreciated
I love that you can just make a hoverboard or whatever
but also planets are confirmed in Starship Evo and apparently the dev wants to do procedural plants and animals like NMS
Sounds pretty cool and my sort of game. I really love doing crazy stuff, whether that be scale or complexity.
I keep telling myself "yeah that's too much for one dev" but then I look at what he's already done and I'm astonished
my very limited fragment of attention for space building games has been on Starbase's alpha
the guy is a mad scientist of making video games
he's already figured out how to make curved planets... IN A VOXEL GAME
(the ring you get access to right now is basically a test for that)
like he's defying all my knowledge on what single devs are capable of
Nothing all that spectacular to have curves using voxels
yeah but also just the building system he has already is insane
it's like a fusion of minecraft and legos
if that game gets planets like NMS with life and all that, it will be my dream game
apparently he just removed the voxel system?
I'm not a huge fan of spaceship games, even ones where you can edit your ship, that don't have planets (as in, you can't land on the planets)
the planets so far look really nice, at least from space
they're far more realistic than NMS
as well as just general solar system layout
like stars aren't just static things in the background and you can have a star orbiting another star
Sorry, got a phone call. But about voxels and curves, it is basically the same as vertices and Bezier curves and alike
that's not a very hard thing
being more realistic than nms, I mean, haha. NMS is stylized like mad
I just want more realistic solar systems, like what you get in Space Engine (which is good but doesn't really have a gameplay aspect)
NMS doesn't even have gas giants
Realism is certainly possible, the tough part is doing it on large scale. Procedural makes it easier to do large scale, but a lot of realism can get lost
It's a bit of give and take
I will certainly make note of Starship EVO and look into it some more. Sounds interesting
Dual Universe got my interest as well for that matter. Just not sure about the huge MMO part
never heard of that one, looking into it
starbase is pretty fun, honestly
I really need to get around to playing it more, but life
the ship building is intimidating to learn
I should watch some tutorials
yeah
I haven't even left the starter station with the tutorial jobs/minigames
mining is kinda fun. One action chips away waste rock, and the other detatches chunks once they're chipped enough
there's also a ship deconstruction job that uses a bunch of fun tools and gives higher rewards for removing components cleanly
@reef mountain @charred badge Another game I have been following lately is 'Worlds of the Future' from Moonmen Games (Indie).

Impulse Gear, the team behind VR fps single player game ‘Far Point’ just revealed a very generic team based multiplayer shooter yaaaaaay
appease the masses, am i right?
instead of creating original content
that’s how you get the 💰
💔
need an emoji with the heart halves further apart
yay thank you, perfect
the black outline adds grungyness and texture
more representative of how i feel towards game devs selling out
lol
(im exaggerating)
theres something about the biomutant gameplay that just always looks off to me
the movement looks strange, can't explain it tho
it is different
almost like the character is always moving way faster than the animations would imply and there are not many transitions between animations
i haven’t watched the new gameplay yet, but from my memory, the animation does have a strange flair to it. i wouldn’t doubt that it’s intentional, as this is a weird game
then again, maybe they are unaware of it and needs polishing?
imo it just looks unpolished but it could be a stylistic thing. no one in the comments has any complaints about it so might just be me lol. the open world stuff shown is kinda what i was worried about but if the word is more condensed it could still work
mhm
though i sometimes do like large, empty open areas/prairies/valleys etc
lots of space for activities
my worry is that usually there aren't really any activities in between except for random cluster of enemies or identical resource collection points, which it seems like is what it is based on the footage
but it's very combat focused so if the combat is fun the clusters of enemies could be more interesting than in something like Skyrim, tho even Skyrim tries to add some story to the random encounters
That looks ....concerning
I don't know why they even bother with hype. The hype train for Biomutant left two years ago.
I only hope they learned a ton from Avalanche Studios that translates into biomutant's optimization
If they even capture the same level of gameplay stability that Just Cause series carried, Biomutant would be a show
Biomutant: All Races, Classes, Attributes, Character Creation, Customization and More
In this video, we’re going to discuss some of the Character Creation and customization aspects of Biomutant, including Races and Classes, for the upcoming open-world Action Roleplaying game developed by Experiment 101 and published by THQ Nordic. With express p...
this video is way more interesting, especialy the sliders
biomutant aka ratchet & clank with character creator
open world ratchet and clank with graffiti
all the races are just little furry things with different ears, was kinda hoping there'd be more interesting differences
plus the stat bars are really unintuitive to look at when the numbers above them don't change
im hoping its just pre release build stuff so im gonna just wait and see post release footage
might avoid watching the new gameplay
replaying some Musashi: Samurai Legend reminded me it had a silly tacked on RPG-lite system, & I'm happy it just let you tell the game to handle stat allocation this way or that
yeah i like autolevel stuff
this one let you say go balanced, offensive, defensive, or manually allocate
DQXI had a good balance of this with static stat upgrades from level ups but also a basic skill tree for abilities and some specialization
DQ in general is pretty good with it
DQXI just had the curse of bosses expecting you to have fought more on the way to them imo
It's a massive open world with 6 factions to work for, two main endings, and I believe some sub-endings. Plus a complete weapon building system. I'm ok with the $60 tag, lol
that's what all the advertising says yeah, just waiting to see how it actually plays when it's out is all
the weapon building is the coolest part that i've seen so far
I mean, you see all of that except the factions in the gameplay trailer
@cinder vessel i feel like that's the JRPG curse most of the time lol
yeah and I said I had issues with some of the things I saw
seeing doesn't equal enjoying lol
and it's hardly in depth outside of the video showing the character customization which is also cool but would've liked other types of creatures for different breeds
not a bd tho
Video game pricing hasn't changed much in yeaaaars - I'm surprised they aren't all 80$ by now or more
big dog
they quietly are, if you get different editions or DLC
True, I'm talking base price though
even upwards of $80 when accounting for that
they are increasing implicitly on a large scale and explicitly in some cases like some next gen titles being $70 on consoles
The pricing has been hidden in mtx
and sadly the bulk of that money probably still goes to execs over workers
Over the average, the price per copy has gone way up
almost every AAA studio now does the "gold/epic/ultimate" editions bullshit that at best adds dumb stuff like ammo packs and at worst adds stuff like entire quests or content
what about my $250 collector's edition that comes with a tin "steelbook" and 6" model of a side character!
The main character sucks anyway
they get enough of others' money that you're not noticeable, sorry Gleam
but before '95, prices were wild af
Wasn't expecting this when I read a RE8 review, lol
You are all mentioning things you don't have to buy
i'm not angry at $60, i'm just more careful about what I'm spending my money on lol. no one is whining.
Except the devs deliberately arrange the things in a way that encourages buying
Seems whiny ish
talking about change is big whine energy
And it works, which increases the price
if all you bring to an argument is "they're whining" idk what productive conversation there is to have
These guys make things I don't have to buy, bad devs bad!
Which is why they haven't bothered to increase box price
devs aren't bad management and capitalism is what makes it happen
While nearly ending the concept of a "single player experience"
Because multiplayer adds social pressure to buy cosmetics and expansions
Ghostcart is covering it pretty well tbh
Correct, like 1 singleplayer game comes out a year
It's dead
Rofl
I can exaggerate also
i don't think it's dead but there's a tendency to push for online or service based content
that's where the money is so I "get it" but it's still just boring
The consumers choose the market direction, maybe you should critique your fellow gamers more?
I like how you gloss over nearly
Not dead, but certainly in hibernation
I think you're also confused about what I'm saying.
I'm explaining why the box price of games hasn't increased much
I am a business, my goal is to make money - this is what sells...
maybe that's what the corporations driving the market want
lol i don't blame individuals for the actions of companies taking advantage of them. This is like the climate change arguments
The box price hasn't increased because players have chosen mtx
Players did this
You did this
I did this
Prices have been kept low on purpose (in the past at least). AAA studios can manage to keep it low, but it makes it hard for a small studio to get a place on the market. No longer quite works anymore as times have changed so indie teams are now abundant
Lol okay gleam
And indie tools have improved significantly
No one forces anyone to pay money for extras, if they can gain money from that, what is the issue?
Nowadays that's where you find the creativity anyway
Someone falling for psychological manipulation is not exactly entirely their fault
I literally just think it's dumb, and don't enjoy the direction AAA games are going. That's all lol
The fact that people can resist the manipulation doesn't remove it
You're turning this into some massive issue about how consumers are stupid and we can't blame the multi-million/billion dollar companies
Nope
you're misunderstanding, the box price has been kept lower by companies spreading the costs over special editions, DLC, and/or microtransactions, nothing to do with player decisions
I'm saying maybe you should also look at the consumers
The business tries to makes money, they have seen what sells and do that
It replaced other tactics from the past, such as Super Ultra Betamax releases, or physical accessories, and such
Sure and what sells is something I'm not a fan of, is what I'm saying. I also think it's unfair to blame individuals but I don't think you're going to budge on that point for whatever reason.
Psychological manipulation from game companies is a cop out from independent thought for players
Might as well say gta 5 made you kill someone
again with the individual responsibility BS lol
That's falling closer to victim blaming
False, someone still has to buy those
Players decide to
and someone has to market them
Yep
While small payments aren't much of an... offense... there are plenty of people that can't resist at all and waste way too much money
so gleam is climate change due to me not recycling my milk jug or is it due to fracking and corporate manufacturing/farming?
They market a million things everyday, so you buy them all?
it's my fault right?
Great comparison, perfect analogy for video games
why blame the player instead of the game?
it is actually the same argument lol
Lmao
one is obviously more important but the logic is identical
Someone walks into a casino.
Is it their fault they spend too much?
To some degree, yes, but they're also being targeted
But casinos make a lot of money huh
Every business targets consumers
Which is why laws exist to limit how much a casino can rig things
yeah and it's shitty
Do you think any of us here are exclusively blaming one element of the issue, and not weighing each element to find the one creating the source of the issue?
Seems like it yeah
Thankfully, laws are finally catching up to gaming costs, and coincidentally box prices are increasing again
I am comfortable with what I purchase with my money, and don't feel anyone forces me to
well I'm sorry Gleam but players don't create the market forces they endure, that's the businesses
Only because they make money
If no one bought Xbox ever again, what would happen to it?
Gone, bye
that would never happen lol, because they have market control
it's never that simple
Sure it is, don't give them money, they change or die
The problem is you will never have all consumers do that
yeah what point are you making?
next to nobody bought a PSP outside Japan yet they still made a Go and Vita and tried to market it outside Japan
monopolies bad? yeah
oh cool
everyone is at fault so no one can be held responsible, gonna go commit crimes now
Singling out devs cause they have mtx and that ain't good, is a vastly oversimplification of the fundamental problem
We are talking video games here, I don't get the sudden switches to climate change or crimes
Video games
it's the problem of individual blame
Because your logic is applied to many other things
Capitalism itself
don't like the market stop buying
All directly tied to video games
we could be talking about anything, the seed of the convo was video games but i'm not applying it to just that
should probably stick with non-political issues for comparison here though
nah
actually yes
And that is another problem - we have one subject, analogies to something else do not apply
you know where politics goes
gleam I'm sorry but if you're so deeply entrenched in defending corporations I have nothing else to say to you lol
I don't want metaphorical hypothesis on how my view on the game industry can be applied to aeronautics
Again, swing and miss
oh come on lol
I'm trying to point out that we have a choice
You do not need to purchase the dlc, or special edition
your choices are directly limited by what corporations decide to market though
It's a choice
and yes I am aware of that
So vote with your wallet as you said you do, don't buy
but I don't blame the entirety of the population when they prove that psychology works
because corporations take advantage of that
I do, accountability for your actions can be extended to your purchases
voting with your wallet does nothing
Does for you
So talk it up, make the change you want to see
yeah I buy primarily indie now, good for me. I was criticizing the AAA industry
Interesting discussion
How do you feel about pyramid scams?
I don't get in involved in them, seems to work
Basically I can sum this up: corporations target consumers with psychology and we are too stupid to not buy stuff
so exploitation of people is ok because the driving force is money
Bad corporations!
Not really
The question isnt whether they are morally right, the question is, when does someone take accountability for their own actions?
yes stupid consumers not having any or much background in psychology getting fooled by specialists, how stupid
Does it work on you?
it's working on all of us all the time
are corporations totally free of accountability just because they're are innocently just trying to make some cash?
Of course not
Okay we're getting there then
so let's say that innocent company was actually using manipulative tactics to try and get as much money as they can out of either a small subset of their consumer base or a large subset of the pop? now the blame is shifting more onto the consumer because they "aren't smart enough" to see thru it and simply not buy it?
Here is my large problem with that. Define Manipulative tactics. If you are referring to dlc and boxed sets with limited edition items, then yes it is the consumers fault for buying, and the companies fault for being asshats and the societies fault for allowing it
okay and which of those do you think can be addressed more effectively, every individual, the companies, or society at large?
I'm talking about the fact that marketing is at its core based in psychological manipulation and even if things are optional a higher percentage of people will buy it because they are being marketed to. I don't blame people for falling for marketing because it's literally designed as a tool to exploit consumers to maximize profit for the company. If you want to blame individuals that's up to you but I wholly disagree.
leon unfortunately I think the answer is none of them because companies are never going to stop wanting money
Society first
but we are not allowed to complain because they are simply trying to make money
Sure can, but make the complaints encompassing
They are, but as you said, this is a video game discussion so that's how it started
Still there
everything I'm saying applies to all industries so it's plenty encompassing
so market regulation, so companies
Complain about the weak willed gamers that can't choose not to buy something
Nah
i agree, markets could use more regulation
whatever phrasing helps you feel superior sure
enjoy this weird hill you are trying so hard to die on
what about the weak willed gamers?
Says a lot
i mean that's what you're saying right Gleam? start with society allowing stuff, so regulate markets so they don't allow predatory business practices, sounds good to me
Correct
I don't feel superior to them, I'm pointing out the differences
You have a strong enough will to not buy
Why give a free pass out
Good for me, still don't blame them!
Agree to disagree 🤝
cause this is pointless and non-productive
They can't be held responsible for their choice then?
Would love to see marketing regulation and get rid of the stupid sentiment in my country where we generally love to score good deals. This is being abused by pretty much any company. So we end up still paying more even when we buy 2 for the price of 1. But hey, we got a good deal right? Wrong ... neighbouring countries are way cheaper even without the stupid deals and supposed discounts.
not when they're being aggressively preyed on, preferably no @idle saffron
Agree to disagree 🤝

@raw sorrel big oof on that
Well, it is that way because it works
Not enough people complain and too many truly believe they got a good deal out of it
the issue is any complaints are far outweighed and stifled by the marketing lol
yup, that too
which is the crux of a lot of issues, people don't want to believe or admit they have been fooled
ahuh
so this idea that people are somehow going to be "educated" out of falling for marketing doesn't hold
good thing everyone's a corporation so we all have a counter-marketing group to help us avoid being fooled!
Yeah it is
so, I just had a brainwave
In CP'77's lore, birds and poultry were killed off and made illegal to own/eat due to some kind of sickness being spread by birds
so, in one way or another, getting cock actually does makes someone a criminal in 2077
how about no
Well well well, there’s a tree growing through that Deathbringer
Either that or it’s growing around, either way, there’s a tree near it
Don’t remember where I found it, but I know it was in the jungle area
What game?

So it's a sequel to that old hard af side-scroller?
Yeah dude!
Well, I loved that game even though not childhood. I was just playing Another World anniversary like a month ago
I have it on Mega Drive still I think
I was just thinking about that, I bought the Anniversary Edition some years ago though
Two standout games at the time
Fade to Black also
Woooo
The level art was fantastic
I'm hopeful, and a touch hesitant
Same
I want to play Another World again now too, I think I have it on mobile
Do it
I uh, might be enjoying Battlefield 1 a lot more than expected
That's ok I won't tell
It is being done Mr Gleam
Very nice!
Drive that car to your house in the rain and go to Another World
Also, that would be an epic sequel as well
The sound effects and the music are amazing
Totally
And characters head not looking like a potato
The music is sooooo goood
I tapped it to check and I just felt dirty
Not the same vibe
Everybody's getting dragged through the mud, holy shit

watching an Ashens video has stirred in me a strange desire for toy-aesthetic games
besides Lego, that is
The scale in the new Assassin's Creed games is really distracting
I hadn't noticed until once came out set in England
From where I am sitting atm, the Isle of Wight looks huge
It takes the ferry or the hovercraft to cross but in AC it looks piddly
Not that the scale change is bad for gameplay
But it's so distracting to see the same view you see every day but with everything so much smaller

I hate cliff hangers.
