(More or less)
I actually played through CE on my iPad Pro just to get closer to the 4:3 I originally played it in
I should try out Reach
I debated playing 2 this way but honestly it feels great in ultrawide
Been many years since I've played it
I mean, you can’t possibly tell me that CE’s original visuals don’t still hold up, artistically
Graphically no, but the original vision is still very strong
For comparison
Idk, I just don’t really agree with the anniversary changes, they changed too much
Yeeeaaaah, the CE Anniversary devs back in 2010 took......liberties with the art style
H2 Anniversary is a whole different animal, that was done in-house by 343 themselves long after CEA was done by Saber Interactive
CE Anniversary looks… soulless
H2 Anniversary is gorgeous, not weird and ultra colorful like CEA
As I said, made by different devs for different generations of consoles. CEA was done by Saber for the Xbox 360 back in 2011, H2A was made by 343 and released on Xbone in 2014
H2 Anniversary does look good but the inconsistency with the cutscenes takes me out of the experience. I wish I could just have in engine ones using the new visuals and actors
The cutscenes were basically treated like small movies, Blur made them seperate from the game
Most people love em cuz the cutscenes of H2 were the best part
It's weird they're bugged, defo look up a fix. Pretty sure they have ultra wide support
Ah, 343 doesn't have an official fix for ultra wide issues so the community uses this
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1711-halo-the-master-chief-collection-ultrawide-cutscenes-fix/
The tools for Steam and Microsoft Store versions of Halo: Reach, Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, ODST, and Halo 4 remove black bars at cutscenes in real time for ultrawide, superwide and triple monitor resolutions. The password for the archives is pcgw Play the game in th...
Dude heck yes, THANK YOU
I might still play in the original graphics but that’s gonna be awesome for a replay
Yee, it's hella fun to see the difference in graphics
Is Halo 3 redone at all in the collection?
Nope. Just has higher resolution and cleaned up textures. All it needed tbh, it still holds up incredibly well
It came out 14 years ago and it's still a better shooter than 90% of the crap released since
I’m really excited
Good article
i wish certain games would take a note from this and trust players some more
This immediately makes me not wanna play it
yeah from what i've watched it's not challenging, just some tedious gather junk a bunch to get to next tier of equipment kinda thing
Hmm
apparently tedium = challenge though? 🤷♀️
Meaning JRPGs are actually the hardest games on the planet 😂
I guess it doesn't really matter to me, I can't play unless it releases on console 😔
and animal crossing...is the hardest game of all
So not to dis on Day Z or anything but where the hell are all the bloody zombies also why does it assume you need to eat every 2 minutes like it’s sad in a zombie game finding a zombie is difficult also what’s with the bloody loot I find book bag after book bag but food and drinks I can’t find
Tedium does equal challenge in 90% of all videogames from current to the 1980s
Repeat X screen until memorized
I decided to try it out today played it for a couple hours thought maybe I just got unlucky then the servers went down and came up which should re populate the world with zombies and loot etc ...
Has anyone played Day Z?
i think dayz was just one of those neverending in development games that didn't really go anywhere...?
At least 7 days to die has zombies and crafting etc
I honestly forgot DayZ even had zombies
Dude I can’t believe how much empty space Day Z has
All I remember about DayZ was people being dicks to each other in a survival open world
It was, yeah, then they tried to make it its own game
And it's just sorta been coasting along ever since, I guess
Dude the people I ran into just kept showing me their farms
The gameplay would be driven by origin though
Like I’m confused
The vast open map is very Arma
Yeah, it was very detail-oriented
Like crouch/prone and body part damage I think?
Plus hydration and such
Also what language is this?
At least back when it was a mod, dunno about the full game
I think it was set on some Russian/East European island?
I'm thinking Russian but honestly not sure
I mean the most loot I found was bags To put loot in
I'd save yourself some time and play something else tbh. It's one of those games where it's more about your interactions with other players, and if there aren't many other players...It's kinda just like that, I guess.
I have a bunch of my body’s littering the map with 4-5 bags I keep dying to starvation finding food isn’t that bad but if you don’t have a knife you can’t eat
Well most things pumpkins etc it seems
Soundtrack of the year 2021 already decided https://youtu.be/NRFE54svs6E
Because no-one else did. If anyone knows what the name and source of the song (or songs?) is, please let me know.
EDIT: special thanks to a friend of mine who got stuck into the problem and found the source: https://www.stockmusic.com/#!details?id=22988531
The song is called "Round & Round" by one Albert Marlowe and owned by S.I. Publishing.
...
Outer Wilds is gooood
Unfortunate release time
So I hope you actually mean Wilds
Time reversal thing
Was originally a student project
...Uh...Care to try that in one complete thought?
Nah
I don't think there's anything confusing in what I said
Outer Wilds and Outer Worlds came out around the same time and people mix them up constantly
lol you mean the fact that outer worlds and outer wilds came out at the same time
i liked both but admittedly worlds after playing through was a lil too meh fun at first but too easy to be op
I played Wilds long before it existed as a released game so I had been waiting many years
i play too many survival/adventure type games lol
I wonder if you can still find the original project 🤔
Outer Worlds is literally Fallout 4 and and Skyrim, and Fallout 3 and Oblivion and Morrowind. They're all the same thing with different set dressing imo
outer worlds is a lot less open though
it tried to claim it was open but once you start playing it quickly narrowed
Size of the map doesn't really matter
size of content in game does though
I immediately found a stash of 90% useless items and I was like glad I'm just trying this out cuz oh boy its another TES type
I don't understand the point of making everything able to be picked up when its mostly useless shit that just encumbered you
Oh hey never use that "take all" cuz most of this is dead weight
Or like the one NG save where you cheesed some late game enemy and got a weapon or something off them that you'll never need to replace
however i am really looking forward to the new StarField i am very hopeful that with the new budget and everything that we can get a godly bethesda game like bygone ages
I think I found a lil' hidden thing in Outer Wilds...And promptly died poking around it 😂
I highly doubt Starfield will be decent since Bethedsa got away with 76
i mean it forces them to start from scratch
the reason 76 was poor is because they reused almost every aspect from 4
including bugs
back when the whole open world do whatever thing wasn't as big, I thought Bethesda's stuff was pretty amazing, but that was waay back with Morrowind. Which, while solid (except the combat), their open worlds aren't that much different than others anymore, outside of a bunch of junk items to burden you
Also Morrowind was really only amazing in the basic pitch, once you played it that kinda faded out, like almost any open world sorta game
i dont know ive never really "finished" a bethesda game fallout 4 and skyrim i played for hours and i cant forget building up the towns etc and creating families in skyrim or the guild questlines
Those games seem cool at first until you found out they're all a 4 inch deep ocean
then when i was able to mod the console versions i spent even more time on them
although triple A games have been going downhill i really cant wait for the next Mass Effect/ Dragon Age type game with actual love and effort put into it where your decisions actually change the game and pass on to the next game
i am tired of the companies that made masterful games just not putting the love into their games anymore
Ez drop AAA
i dont know even non AAA companies arent pushing out great games
There's a lot of non AAA games that are awesome wdym?
Go play Manifold Garden as a quick thought
speaking of, i should also get around to finishing that...But trying to focus on Outer Wilds again atm, lol
whoever doesn't think this is delusional
I need to finish both
Gears new game dropped the ball, Atlas dropped the ball, Ark is just a rollercoaster, NMS while fairly entertaining now definitely dropped, Mass Effect Andromeda wasnt bad at all but they didnt keep up with it, Unfortunately Terraria is coming to a close, Dark Souls just seems to have ended completely, btw i am just stating random games that are coming to mind even games i thought were fun at first quickly lost the appeal after awhile like atomicrops, undermine, ooblets
stardew valley without mods
State of Decay 2 was great during the first year then the second year it didnt feel like they gave it the same as they did in year one
i never said they werent i was just listing games
Well I already named an indie game that's great
Manifold Garden, go
I mean its not a farming game 😝
Andromeda was great but they gave up on it just because of a lil backlash from the outspoken few that didnt understand that the team working on the game werent the same team that worked on the rest
what is Manifold Garden?
btw sorry i might just be ranting about games that i just wish was a lil more i like if not love the games but they just fall short
hmm PC or Console? i can play either
Both
what would you say its meant for then? is it more geared towards console or PC?
i think i may have uncovered a lil' shortcut entirely on accident in Outer Wilds, lol
Gotta do more research tho!
Also Bramble place triggers my thalassaphobia
That was one of the first places I fumbled through, probably should revisit it 😅
In the original it was worse
I flew in unknowingly and got eaten by the fish
And I got so scared
Some madman cut GTA loading times by 70%
Rockstar is implementing it in the next update
I seen that but how lol
Same way modders fix Fallout 4 but Bethesda never does
Basically the store items loaded so poorly it made the whole game slow
Guy made changes to one JSON file and fixed it or something like that
Lmao
skill
sarcastic, offending Rock Star, of course.
Apparently the guy got paid for it too
Rockstar confirmed better than bethesda
I forgot how nice the n3ds plates are
I had one of those but it’s smol design and sharp edges were cramp city for my hands
I have the new3DSXL
The XL isn't much bigger, and it's a lot heavier
Satisfactory update 4 out today on the experimental branch woooooo
oooohhh
imma wait till its on EA branch tho
imma wait till its on EA branch tho
Those comments on dropped games from Devil made me laugh. Lumping NMS into the batch was silly considering they still have plus 20 devs working on it. Its just slow bake since they cant work in studio. Unfortunately with the current work environment that hurts studio based games.
Hrmm, a lot of the small games I play seem to be doing well though. Most of those worked remotely anyways though.
Ark definitely is a roller coaster though.
Atlas really had a bad start with what was going on in the studio.
I guess at the moment, I mostly play Valheim. Its such a lovely quite survival game. Simple really. I mostly play it because of that inherent simplicity
I've been playing Fallout 4, the amount of damage sponge is real
Outer Wilds is currently my playthisplaythis game
But also, Paradise Killer is sick and you should play it too. It's like the flipside of Outer Wilds, where you explore & investigate people instead of places
@glass lily The language is Russian. That's a highway sign indicating the distance to ТУЛГA(Tulga) and KAMЫШOBO (Kamyshovo)
The game is Dayz.
i never got past 2 hours 🤷♂️
I haven't played outer wilds. It looks like an entertaining story.
If not a bit tedious
I don't know if I'd be able to stand doing the same things over and over and over like it's groundhog day
Just navigating one change after another to try and save time
never played hades then 😄
I've been really digging multiplayer games lately
I want games to be easier for people to play together and have fun
Lately, three games. Escapists 2, Green Hell and Valheim
you have to be in the mindset for it, would recommend trying again sometime, it gets better and better
yes
Co-op
You can MP in survival mode of various difficulty levels or MP the entire story
you don't do the same things over & over unless you're just really determined to figure specific locations out.
I've been going here & there between different worlds/places piecing together more & more
That's on my buy on discount list for sure
i do like to revisit my orphaned games 👶
Is it compelling enough to or are you a completionist?
I'm not a completionist, so for me it's just compelling enough
I only go into completionist mode if I really like a game and it's not stupid about what it counts towards completion
So the cycle repeat is on a set time, yeah
But you keep information you gather
Literally, in your ship log
And if there's something more to find, the game tags some stuff with, "There's more to explore here" so you can get a better sense of what to revisit
@dry copper it cycles every 26 min no matter what you do
it's rather tilting when you're in the middle of something and the timer is up
I love watching people get Outer Worlds and Outer Wilds mixed up, lol
Was just basic Fallout combat 😆
The next wave of FPS Boost games for Xbox Series X|S has arrived - and in Prey and Dishonored Definitive Edition, we can better experience stone-cold classic titles from the brilliant Arkane Studio. Frame-rates are massively improved as you would expect, but it turns out that FPS Boost delivers more than just a doubling of performance...
Subs...
😌
💀
I can already hear a triggered hoarde of Americans
tbh i can't imagine trying to play out capitalism in a survival adventure game, lol
it's a surefire way to piss everyone off
Its potent mix of Breath of the Wild and Minecraft with a viking aesthetic is shockingly polished
Where do they find these people 🤣
Well trying to sell basic commodities like water and food will make people mad when it's digital water and food, but less people get angry when it's real water and food and the money isn't going to someone nearly as well off as you.
I apologise if I come off like I don't think little green notes should be in control of what is required to stay alive.
Don't wanna get political

Sony announces new PS5 studio
Jade Raymond is heading up the studio
RIP new studio
Dauntless is pretty much 'Monster Hunter for babies', but it's plenty difficult. When you get to some of the monsters that start zipping through portals at high speeds or spamming a disco ball light show at you, you've hit some of the harder content 😛
watch this https://youtu.be/2_7La4LeO44?t=53
Build is shown at the end of the video.
P.S. Check out new DauntlessUnivercity reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/DauntlessUniversity/
it's also cross-play so you can play with PC/Xbox/PS4/Switch players too.
Gets plenty hard on heroic behemoths too. I still haven't checked out the new ones. Glad to see they are still adding stuff
yoo i saw that, i just haven't had the time to dig back in
Realm of Ice is the latest update it would seem.
It's called urska looks awesome. The high tier behemoths really make the game worthwhile but it's fun to beat up on the noob ones solo haha
the Escalation quests are pretty challenging
and actually caught me off guard the first time lol
Yea the game has completely changed in the past few years. Lots of good updates
The aether strikers are fun too

Wonder if should I bail or not
And I'm fully aware that mountain range to the right is just pure aids, didn't realise 3x3 mountain's a thing
my 3rd run, just discovering the game :D
Went for it, skeletons taught me a lesson on humility.
They let the lesson sink into your very bones 😎
Gotta love Create and Immersive Portals mods~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W317Sz46U7E
Create is amazing. Immersive Portals is amazing. Why not combine two amazing things to make something conceptually beautiful? :3
In here I use a basic splitting door right in front of an Immersive Portals' Nether portal. The doors can also slide while you are still inside the Nether, allowing you to see the doors closing on the Overworld side ...
TIL Wolfenstein The Old Blood is WAY more badass than I expected, lol
this reminds me I need to make my auto crops farm with Create
Oy, Dauntless talk!
I just get rubbed the wrong way by how floaty the movement is.

Your Party. Their Funeral. Preorder Now – DarkAlliance.com.
Battle legendary monsters with your friends in an explosive action RPG set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons.
Available Everywhere June 22
is that a balder's gate dark alliance remake?
ok sure, make it into a third person action rpg
I believe the phrase is "ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag"
reasonable move these days
top down clicky action rpg is a bit out of favour rn
or at least, heavily monopolized by PoE
The cinematic trailer back in 2019 was atrocious, not suprised to see the gameplay is too 💀
heh
"Warhammer Vermintide sold well, let's make a knockoff third-person one with D&D characters"
?
heh, it has drizzt
because of course it does
salvatore's self insert gets into everything
he was annoying in the original
had twinkle and icingdeath, which was fine, I guess?
because thats his weapons in the lore?
arcane archer was so good, though
The game is an......adaptation (not really, lol) of what happens in between two of the Icewind Dale books
walk around in full plate as an archer, lol
thats not lore though, he literally is a dual wielding fighter/rogue
Sticking Drizzt in a funky PvE hero-looter (like Vermintide) is just insulting
oh, is it not even set around baldur's gate? I guess that explains the name
...oh, a reboot not a remake
disappointing
we don't even have a port of BGDA 2
I never got to play it, because I had a gcn and played the first 🙄
@charred badge No, it's a weird adaptation of what happens between two of the Icewind Dale books
I don't remember what I disliked about drizzt in BG:DA
I think he had some locked gear?
guess ranger is actually what lore states
drizzt is whatever is necessary to the book
I've read every book about him
you are made of more patient stuff than I
he is a ranger who dual wields with a onyx panther
although his second sword never gets a name, iirc
yes it does
he just takes it from the lair of icingdeath
I love Guenhwyvar 💕
unless they changed that?
I just remember fans complaining about that at the time
Anywho, why that game exists is beyond me. Who looks at the Drizzt books and goes "This lad needs to be stuck in a stupid Bruckheimer-worthy action-RPG", smh
ah ```
The sword Icingdeath first appeared in The Crystal Shard but remained nameless until it was called "the newly named Icingdeath" as a side-note in the book The Silent Blade.```
Drizzt's favorite weapon was the scimitar, and he carried two, nicknamed Twinkle and Icingdeath. He also carried a unique figurine of wondrous power that summoned his black panther companion Guenhwyvar.[33] The drow wore a pair of Bracers of the Blinding Strike (obtained from Dantrag Baenre, weapon master of the first house of Menzoberranzan who challenged and lost to Drizzt) around his ankles, which made him incredibly quick on his feet. He chose to wear them on his legs instead of his arms because when the enchantment combined with his natural speed, his sword swings became too fast for him to control (making it hard to change directions), and his feet could not keep up, resulting in extremely predictable attacks.[34]
...drizzt is ridiculous
I think I quit reading the books after the Crystal Shard trilogy, so idk anything about those magic bracers
Cleric Quintet was my favorite with his apperance
he gets into everything dnd, like I said
...rememberwhen dedicated strat sites were a thing?
So yeah, he couldn't change weapons at all
kinda crummy in a top-down dungeon crawl looter
And only had two active abilities.
Mmmm, Outer Wilds is so good, and I still have a planet I haven't even been to yet
love this angle for the screenshot
One of my favourite ever games
Gotham series is fun
in a way, i appreciate it more because of how over the top and closer to fantasy it is as opposed to the realism of other stuff like Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight
Gotham 💕
i honestly really enjoy the cast
he’s great!
There's other characters in the later seasons that don't show up much but are 👌 when they do
i’m in 4. hope Joker returns
The last season is fuckin wild
oh i’m not sure i realized it came to an end
always better to end strong instead of stringing along mediocre content
S5 is the last one
getting that loop hero with the soundtrack haha

Indeed
I figured out why people watch Netflix when flying passengers in ED, traveling 500k Ls takes 20 minutes 💀
whats your favorite game coming out this year ?
I'm looking forward to Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Biomutant, and Halo Infinite
it's funny though, most of the games I've been super passionate about as of late have been games I've just stumbled across
I'm currently busy suffering in Elite Dangerous 💀
it's almost like the hyped games that get pushed everywhere are generally disappointing
I'm done with passengers for life good lord
ugh, I need to finish modding my sticks so I can play ED more
Cuz I figured out how to make it fun, I was just stupid and took one last passenger job before transitioning to salvage/search and rescue 😭
I saw 2m Credit job for one passenger and thought it would be simple. It was a lie
Only one destination, it said
there's always a twist
if it's a mission where you have to jump once, be prepared to be flying in a straight line for like 30 minutes
I'm in the asshole of The Bubble, I swear
Been sitting here in Supercruise forever
15 minutes, to be exact
the magic of binary star systems
may as well grab a snack and put on a good youtube vid
After this I'm getting rid of my stupid passenger cabin and replacing it with a smaller one and some cargo space for salvage/search and rescue
goddamn cargo to colonia missions
I don't hate ED but the whole "warp to a binary system and have to fly for 30 minutes meanwhile having to ALSO keep on your toes because you can get interdicted at any given moment" thing really grinds my gears
SC does this too except there's nothing in between
I play solo with no cargo so no interdictions, lol
npcs can still pull you out of supercruise
They only do it if you have goodies, in my experience
is a passenger not a goodie?
especially if they're considered an enemy of whatever group attacks you?
Tbh in my 30 hours of playing I've only been interdicted like 4x and all of them were when I had dank cargo
lucky
I've been interdicted even when my hull is empty
idk
again I have my complaints about ED but at least it isn't SC
SC's space travel is painfully empty last I played
may be different now but I'm really not willing to download it again until development really starts speeding up
yeah SC space travel is boring af unless u have mates on a large ship
even then there's not much you can do once you're in QT
you can get up and move about, but there isn't much else to do
that is, if you don't fall out of your ship... 😒
heh, this is where I get to flex my boomer muscle
back in my day we didn't have no stinkin' automated systems, we did everything manually
[angry old man noises]
Lol
It had auto dock when I first played but it didn't have the other stuff, that's new
The new tutorial is so much nicer, like god damn
You literally go through Commander school, LMAO
where is this? never seen it myself
I know there's in game tutorials but they're completely different from what I'm hearing here
You can do the tutorial whenever you want, it has its own tab when you're selecting what kind of lobby you want
hm, I'll have to take a look
i will re-DL when i have feet for free 😄
Satisfactory apparently has beeg update
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw has some of the best space travel mechanics. You can fly manually if you insist but otherwise just jump right over to your destination, no bullshit
There's a little more for sector to sector travel but not by much
I'd love RGO, too bad I've literally never seen it on sale
It's baffling to me that space sims insist on the most mindnumbing parts of simulation that are literally what makes space travel to distant locations prohibitive to us
It's in the distant future but let's make sure it still takes about the time to drive to a nearby city to get anywhere
I hate it at the scale of something like ED but I also found the implementation in RGO to be pretty boring
just instant warping to a spot feels so cheap and takes the exploration part of it out for me
granted it's hardly an exploration game so it isn't the most valid criticism
Kinda afraid of whatever the hell happened in that forest.
i recommend Moss, PaperBeast, Subnautica and The Witness
huh
I would not see the point in that because I like the contrast between day and night darkness and light
A sense of dread at the coming night for me, was fun
Especially if you had to dive deep soon
Mind you at a certain depth its dark as hell anyways
yeah
And having that less dangerous shallow waters where the sun is bright eases the mind
You know, Im on the edge witht he discussion of warp times in ED. I actually enjoy the long trip times in ED. Making those long passages to distant inter solar system bodies was.. I cant put a finger on it
Good.
However, I find the control in RGO compelling.
Sorta torn.
The longest I had to fly in a solar system was 5 hours I think. That was freakish though.
Usually solar systems arent that big.
This one though had a planet orbiting a tiny distant star in its orbit
I just wanted to go see it, didnt realize, it was sooooooooo far away
Looking back at the other star when I finally made it was amazing
PLUS there was a colony on that little world
What a fucking view.
Not many games capture that same sense of awe I had in ed.
Valheim has me exploring in a similar way. Going out into the world and finding those amazingly beautiful vistas.
I look forward to playing that on console
I would also recommend Abzu from that list
I got Abzu for free on EGS, still need to play it
It's like an hour long but pretty to look at
Definitely something to take your time with
i wonder if Hello Games have played Subnautica or Abzu....🤷♂️
LOL
yeah i was about to say...Since I take it as more about dogfights I don't mind it as much, but I also don't think exploration games have to make travel take forever, especially if they don't really have much to find
Maybe some of them have
maybe like, one of them
Im fairly certain almost every programmer I know played subnautica.
Also couple cool games out today, either for first time or first time on console:
Adios & Signs of the Sojourner
Majority of good game designers play other games 😉
I guess it all depends on what you feel is worth finding Leon. Its all a matter of perspective and how peopel value how time passes. I can definitely see your perspective. Mine just differs lol.
@shadow tartan i’m jesting
or Outer Wilds
Space games certainly have a lot of potential designs. Exploration ones are so damned rare.
yeah I agree when it takes a long time it's just tedious, I think NMS has a decent balance which is what draws me in most of the time @cinder vessel
I know bruv, I've just had to deal with some that don't play enough and can't deliver
Breaks my black heart
LOL! One game Im seeing almost all my programmer and art friends play is valheim. They are taking a LOT of notes.
Damn right
People who write a book and don’t read anyone else’s books should never sell their own book
Probably because they want to try and replicate certain aspects that made Valheim successful
Valheim has smacked it
I feel like the travel issue in ED is most easily circumvented by not picking destinations and just hopping around looking for signals to investigate, lol. Be a salvager boi and look for abandoned ships and whatnot
That's what I'm switching to
Me, Im a deep space explorer. I go to the edges
Ive been places, Im fairly sure no one will ever be to again
I use an Asp Explorer but don't actually explore with it
Which is a shame. The most beautiful world I was ever on was at the galactic edge. A beautiful ice world with deep canyons with 4 moons circling it, the cloest being a volcanic moon glowing in the night sky
Sigh, it was absolutely surreal
What was even more surreal was looking out when it faced away from the galaxy and not seeing more stars
Just open space.
In my defense, Asp Explorers have a suspiciously large amount of hardpoints and internal module room for something you just yeet around space in 😆
I’m good with exploration as long as there’s plenty of waypoints and not too much empty space leaving me wandering for three hours without seeing anything new
hehe, I was out in a good old diamondback
I love the way its engine growls
I just cant justify the time sink though. Games like ED are almost a lifestyle.
Does staring at stars for 15+ minutes while traveling in a solar system count, lol
I think those games and the time sink are more justified than games like destiny or outriders or borderlands that make you replay the same content over and over
Blech, I'd rather watch or play or read something than turn on a glorified loading screen for three hours
yeah NMS is an exception, as it’s meant to be a chill experience
but we could use many more interesting points of interest in space and on planets
Im a technical type. I dont mind solitary emptiness
Which is why I loved kerbals
Mind you kerbals has fast forward
😛
Im curious how interstellar travel will be handled in kerbals two.
They basically added that as a long term goal. Building a immense ship will take ages!
ED is literally just empty space, sadly. Which makes sense seeing as it's our entire galaxy, but still. Lots of empty travel time
Hrmm
well besides all the stuff you find.
Ive found abandoned probes, old crashed ships, abandoned colonies, old battles amidst asteroid belts
Mind you thats spread out over weeks of travels
its sparse
How to go somewhere distant in a solar system:

-Watch your ship travel however many lightseconds for 10+ minutes depending on how far away your target is
The coolest i found was a ship that crashed, with a line of tread tracks, half way around the world, to a abandoned colony, there on a launch pad are the blast marks of a ship that lifted off.
Three words on the launch pad
We Made It
hehe
Now that was cool.
that’s neat
Its all over, easter eggs, stories
My friends who used to be really into the game would just turn on Netflix while their ship traveled, lol
One thing is for sure, games with less points of interest but unique ones end up being more meaningful and memorable
hey, I did that too !
I loved Netflix
One monitor had netflix, the other had my maps, the other then game
My little ship cockpit so to speak
thing is, at least imo, you don't need to make travel take forever to make those fewer points of interest "more meaningful"
Yeah there needs to be a balance
Even if they speed it up, it change the time
but in a good way
I dunno, I respect the fact with the way the background generation works, they probably balance it well with faster times
A lot of technical reasons
Such is game design I suppose
Any jobs in the game with destinations to go to are awful, just endless 20 minute travel segments between stations or whatever while you dick around on your phone or watch Netflix
Some people love that though
I suppose the game just caters to those people.
*shrugs *
The elite series always catered to those peopl.e
in my experience, both IRL and for game stuff, finding/getting stuff taking a long time is rarely justified. There's a difference when it comes to awaiting the creation of something, mind, but when something is already done and all you're doing is delaying something without much of worth in-between?
All you're doing is teaching patience in practically the silliest way imaginable, lol
Thats where, you can just suck it if you like it if a dev simply says, this is our crowd, we service them, dont like it find another game
Unfortunately there arent many other games with that scale
I wish there was
i'm glad there aren't personally, lol
it's not the scale that matters, it's what's populating the space
Well, thankfully the people who do like ED have the game to play. There arent more games of the style for specifically the reasons your listing.
The cloests I came to ED was maybe
X series
Traveling to places blows, therefore I'm just gonna fly randomly and scan for stuff to salvage/escape pods to rescue. I already named my ship Serenity, I shall next reenact Firefly 😆
hehe
I think if I started ED again, after the next update, I mite stay on planets
be a foot explorer
i should just gift you RGO instead S0ul, lmao

Never enjoyed RGO
To arcadey
Im more a space sim gy
Mind you it was pretty!
Fucking goregous
There is another space game, whats it called...
Just coming out
the closest i've come to space sim is probably X3, which i've tried several times over the years and just bounce off of like every time
Still ea?
I feel like I'd spend more time in RGO playing pool than doing ship things 🤣
apparently a bunch of folks are digging Everspace 2
Is it out yet
I'm just waiting for it to leave Early Access
Ah
ngl that is definitely how i spent the first few hours, lmao
Can I beat people with a pool cue in RGO if they cheat
no, sadly
Smh
Outlaw, it's even in the name 😤
Hrmm, I heard similar about ever space leon.
I dunno, its pretty
Ill give it that
plus it has a tactile collection system
I like that
it's not a spacesim, but it is more of like a space action RPG sortakinda? so it may balance out for you there
Everspace was annoying. Everspace 2 looks good tho, a full-fledged ship RPG sounds fun 😆
Meanwhile, Im knee deep in valheim, building a beautifl colony. I just see myself going to a new game anytime soon.
and story driven right?
That I dunno about tbh
Everspace 2? Pretty sure it has a story of some kind
The story in Everspace 1 was pretty sparse, so not sure how much focus it may have in 2
EVERSPACE™ 2 is a fast-paced single-player spaceship shooter with deep exploration in space and on planets, tons of loot, RPG elements, mining, and crafting. Experience a thoughtful story, set in a vivid, handcrafted open world full of secrets, puzzles, and perils
Apparently it does have one, lol
Makes sense they'd focus on that this time, the first game had diddly squat for a story
on planets??
You don't walk around on em but yeah
huh, while trying to find the name of the other starship building game Ghostcart was playing awhile back I stumbled across this:
https://cosmoteer.net/
puzzles. neat
Hardspace should hurry up and fully release, lol
Lemme turn brain off and chop chop ships like my boi in Titan AE
blagh, wtf was that game called, i think it started with an E, it was very early access, was supposed to have shipbuilding and had you able to go on-foot on planets to a degree, and flying around your constructed ship
stop naming space games random E words, ffs
Dual Universe or Empyrion?
nope
Hrmm
As for everspace 2, man, very feature dense systems
But only 2 now
4 planned this year
So at that rate, in a few years maybe 20
Sorta a inverse ED
Dense but small
Not a bad thing
Starship Evo! There we go!
Jeez, that is NOT a memorable name
No its not
Dense but small is good for me because I get to enjoy it right off the bat and then drop it once I run out of content
had to look through ghostcart's posts in here to find it
I guess HG is taking that to heart with its next project
Small but dense
Thats probably why they have so many damned artists on the new team.
Though with COVID, how many of those 30 plus are still working?
Artists I guess do work from home mostly
Frankly after Covid, my expectations for releases are diminished
I would love to see something that only focuses on maybe a few planets from hello games
Imagine a solar system, with the level of detail, each planet type, but hand made, beside proc gen
Phew
thats a neat concept
We get all these games from AAA game studios that take place on multiple planets but focus on one small map but there aren’t many games out there that allow full world exploration but only give you a limited amount of planets to explore
Scale is a bit issue.
lol zug i dunno what you're adding to messages lately but i keep seeing [OBJ] here & there
In valheim, you have a limited amount of content, exploring the world losing its purpose after a point, because you only have so many possible variations of islands.
So even with the huge world, I only ever explore maybe 10 percent.
I’m using voice to text this whole time and then editing like every message
aahh
Yeah but all the more frustrating when you have to edit it
Im sitting here, looking at my bank account, wondering what the heck to fix first
I havent had options for so long.
HA< already did
The sausage part
I bought a pile of awesome hand made sausage from the local butcher
and a keg of good beer.
mmmmmm
That shall be dinner tonight.
I would have in the past updated my pc, I have a gpu, but... I just dont have a reason to yet
i want a draft lager
noice
i bet
still deciding whether to get a new cpu, ram and mobo
I have a 5700xt, so no need for a gpu
my old 4690k still going as good as ever
Seriously funny, I played cyberpunk at high fps on a old cpu
I never expected this cpu to be this good, this long
wonder how they’re doing with Cyberpunk’s updates
They're not
Issa joke, I just haven't seen any news on it since the hacking
i think that was fixed
Yeah, they said it added months to the dev cycle
I did play the game a lot, at least I enjoyed it 😄
what if it was a dev and it was their plan all along so it would give them some slack
ha
i’m sure there are many things to enjoy
that’s one way of doing it
Interesting article on it, I can't believe it's been three months since it got removed from the PS store 😬
https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2021/03/17/is-cyberpunk-2077-in-no-mans-sky-mode-or-getting-abandoned/
Allegedly the next "big" update is at the end of the month
While no, Cyberpunk 2077 is not a live service game, at this point they need a more coherent roadmap. They sort of released one a few weeks ago, but it was essentially just “we’re delaying free DLC until maybe spring. We’re delaying next gen release until the second half of the year.”
Im sure they cant really abandon the older gen. Liabilty contracts would stop them
Unfortunately they really did themselves in
in more positive news, this lovely game is now on consoles, and I very much recommend it:

Signs of the Sojourner is a narrative card game about connecting ...
They never ever should have released on the older xboxes
Hrmm whats this leon?
What the literall hell is this...
Ha, you find some quirky games Leon
So they had a interview with one of the devs from Irongate
The first thing they said, they expected 1 million sales over a year. Plenty to thrive on and keep going with development
the fact they are at 6 million basically at 4 weeks..
Sheesh
The response was, they feel a mixture of joy and terror
Lol
And this curious looking game, for those more into narrative games:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is4dqQTP86I
Adios is a cinematic first-person game about sticking to a complicated decision.
You're a pig farmer in Kansas. It's October. Cold, crisp mornings are the norm, and you have decided that you're no longer okay with letting the mob use your pigs to dispose of bodies. When your old friend - a hitman - arrives with his assistant to deliver another ...
nice
been too long since my last first person narrative walking sim
which i think was Edith Finch
there’s another one i can’t think of the name of right now
also, whoa this looks fun https://youtu.be/m8ogIEQGvH0
Take a look at some fresh gameplay footage from Heavenly Bodies - the challenging, physics-based spatial puzzler coming to PS5 and PS4. Wrangle the hands and arms of a weightless cosmonaut and clamber your way through a collection of precarious stellar scenarios where, without gravity, nothing is still, nothing is secure and nothing is ever simple.
I can definitely see folks streaming shenanigans with it, lol
You can't tell me this isn't the canceled Prey 2 project set in the Warhammer universe, lol
https://www.polygon.com/22335758/warhammer-40k-necromunda-hired-gun-leak-xbox-one-series-x-first-person-shooter
lol
You're a bounty hunter doing parkour stuff and hunting aliens
only warhammer game i played was Space Marines on ps3. fun
All these Warhammer 40k games and i'm like, "okay how many books do i need to read to wrap my head around any of the story"
Developed by the same team behind Space Hulk: Deathwing, the game puts players in the role of a mercenary hunting criminals and mutants on the mean streets of the Imperium’s most famous hive world
what if you want to be the criminal hunting mercenaries, huh? HUH?
I fully expect them to say they were inspired by Prey 2, lol
Oh, btw, before I forget, Anodyne's developers announced their next game today, Sephonie:

omg this day just keeps dishing out the good stuff, a Super Monkey Ball-like game is coming soon:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/873270/Rolled_Out/
lol
Why is Valheim the new Minecraft, lol
I've seen people build massive bee farms, LMAO
probably because it's more interesting to build nonsense than fight gobblegorks
People are treating it like a second life and building huge farms and communities and whatnot, lol
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is great if you enjoyed Edith Finch
I love building in valheim
Their design tools give you a lot of leverage to design freely.

@dry copper Vanishing of Ethan Carter was actually one of the first first person narrative games i ever played, and probably my favorite. really great experience
HOLY crap
Finally.
Disco Elysium on ps4/5 this month
same day as Outriders though...
I aint concerned about Outriders
Disco Elysium is a bigger deal tbh
been waiting for a date for over a year
maybe a couple
Dilemma.

well, again, it's because at a certain point there's not all that much else to do, I'd imagine
What I'd hope is that Valheim sticks to whatever initial design visions they might have had and goes with those, and doesn't let the community influence them too much
I wish they wouldn't compare us to cyberpunk
nms doesn't deserve this
That would be interesting if Persona 5 came to Xbox
but it was totally a AAA title with a massive success prior to NMS to ensure it would be great! 😂
Is cyberpunk still not on the ps store? I thought it was re-added or something

Slenderman: the last of portal stranding?
as long as it has a unique story to tell, i'm all for it
it kinda looks like it's gonna be just another first person horror game, but i'm pretty sure it's less about survival and more about just exploring to reveal the story similar to games like The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Gone Home, etc
which we need more of.
the horror game market is oversaturated

So I recently have rekindled my love for Halo and holy fuck it's some of the most fun I've had playing videogames in a very long time
I currently have a goal to play all of the Halo campaigns back to back with two friends of mine
Moon has first dibs
moon halos are cool
Never played Halo. Never got attached.
I had an xbox one(I think it was called) with the red ring of death issue back when it first came out, but I was not into it at all...the machine
Have you played them before?
i played Halo 3 with friends I used to chase them in that motorcycle thing in the desert map
and then i drove a mongoose through a blocked door into another map and my friend was like WHAT THE FUCK when I ran him over cuz he wasn't expecting it to be able to get in there 😛
jumpscare achieved
Geese....They can go anywhere
Modded Halo is unbelievablely fun
I played a campaign overhaul for Reach and holy fuck it was incredible
And I think they're adding a custom server browser soon
That was the 360, lol
Ah yes
Red ring of death
I remember trying to fix thag
That
I remember there was a temporary fix where you could literally wrap the Xbox in towels and let it overheat for like an hour and for whatever reason once it cooled down it would work again for like another 2 weeks
Honestly though this mod just seems hilarious to mess with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsBuOf5JFSg

wow
I have extremely fond memories of halo despite never really getting attached to the series
played through most of the campaigns with my brother and much more
he was a lot more into it than I was, but I still remember watching him play online more than anything
@austere lance have you read Fall of Reach?
I read everything up to Glasslands
Oh word
I'm listening to FoR rn and it's incredible
||Keyes just took out the 4 covy ships with his crazy maneuver and holy fuck it was awesome||
Keyes Loop 😌
Keyes good
Then you cry after reading The Flood
Honestly the first trilogy (Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike) is amazing
Some of my best memories were just watching my brother play video games
I'm gonna read through the first trilogy then reach Shadows of Reach
Do the first 3 books coorespond with the first 3 games?
Fall of Reach takes place before CE, The Flood is a retelling of CE but also shows what was happening everywhere else on the ring while John was kicking ass, and First Strike takes place between CE and H2
Ooh sick okay
is the writer well known or just known for writing Halo books?
Tbh my favorite Halo was 3
i'm cautious to read books based on games
Contact Harvest is also a great one, it's basically Sgt Johnson's origin story and shows first contact between humans and the Covenant
There's like 10+ different authors cuz there's a bunch of books in various timelines, lol
Oh so it elaborates when harvest got fucked
ah
The first trilogy was written by a well-known (back then at least) sci fi author tho, it's pretty good
i'd be more interested in that
He wrote that trilogy and a few other Halo books following it that continue the story
I'm reading it rn and its 👌🏻👌🏻
Then a bunch of other authors started writing books at different points in the timeline, lol
ha
Also hearing the order for the Cole protocol was so fucking cool
Contact Harvest, Cole Protocol, Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, and Ghosts of Onyx are the ones I recommend (in that order)
Imma try to read Shadows of Reach before infinite comes out because it's supposed to explain a ton about the Banished
Everything after those kinda became all Avengers feeling, lol @willow crypt
I'm also playing through HW2 rn which is a ton of fun
The books I listed are good military sci fi books in general, not just good Halo books. Afterwards they kinda become basic videogame books 😆
All but 5
I played the ones that matter

3 would have to be my comfy spot
But I do like being able to sprint
So Reach contends with it
I'm curious
H5 🤢
H4 level design was awful, story was good tho. H5 can just not. Ground pound and shoulder charge and ADS makes it feel like CoD and the campaign was a joke that completely negated everything H4 did 🤢
I wish

And fixes nothing, lol
OK maybe not nothing, but it's still crap
They're adding base building? Weird
Not surprising though, given how the game was going
It's been gradually adding in a number of these little survival crafting elements
It seems like the only place that any dev can imagine that going is basebuilding these days
Maybe they shoulda used the resources they're spending on this to make the base game better
i mean they have been reworking the base game alongside all this
Weird, I thought it was basically dead
OK this is kinda cool
Along with rare weapon drops, the team added a new feature, Rivals. Sometimes when players die to a robot, or when a player kills enough machines in an area, a robot will be given a unique designator and some extra strength, lending the game more variety and a greater sense that it’s responding to player action.
Finally got it
?
Anaconda
Ye
Really want one haha
It think he means an anaconda, that ship
Oops I was typing that while you clarified
Got it after mining platinum for a few hours
Nice though
Thanks
Lol. How did you get a screenshot of the inside?
Free-cam
I had no idea they put that much detail into the insides when you can't even walk around, lol
I hope we can walk around our ships in Odyssey 😭
I think they are going to add fully fleshed out interiors later
But not at release tho
Have a aspx but Haven't really used it tho
It's my only ship, am a poor boi with only 9m credits
Mining in my asp atm
Mine platinum in omicron capricorni b
I'll burn before I mine in that game lol
Don't worry you'll grow to love it
I was like you once
Only wanted to explore
But realised i couldn't make any money
So i turned to mining
And it grew on me
Exploring is gross, I've been flying passengers and trading 😆
Mine a little bit then buy a beluga
I just outfitted my ship for salvage tho cuz I got bored
So you can flex on the peasants
Step 1. Install NMS
Step 2. Purchase freighter
Nice looking freighter!
"Telempathic psychokinetic transceiver" is the most star trek sounding device ive heard of in a long time haha
Aka "Dream Couch"
i like the word psychokinetic
i am imagining a person with telepathy but he just uses it to punch people in the face with it from large distances
"Gark Mindfist" the most ferocious Weird boi
It's a ship mate , not a freighter
Freighters cost 1 billion
Then several million just to keep it going each week
Yes
prey 2 when
I feel like Prey doesn't need a sequel, as good as the game was.
I mean they could make the second game a prequel, like they did with Little Nightmares...
What server are you in?
Killer coffee cups have never been smoother
The mimics are genuinely scary sometimes too
but Prey ended in a cliffhanger, I want to know what happened to Domasi
i dont

Apparently patch 1.2 for Cyberpunk is gonna fix a bunch of bugs and this
The option to turn off double-tapping the movement key to dodge
fucking thank you
that was such a pain
at least let me bind it to a key + a direction
What is the name of the patch that's going to make the game not shit anymore?
Well the game was supposed to release in 2022 at the earliest, so have fun waiting 💀
Im not really worried. I enjoyed the game. Moved on o Valheim. Perfectly happy to come back in a few years. Not that unusual for me
ID@Xbox, Microsoft's indie games wing, is teaming up with Twitch to host its first Indie Showcase on March 26. Xbox is promising over 100 games at the event including new debut trailers and gameplay for titles like STALKER 2, Second Extinction, and more.
That oughtta be fun
Second Extinction? "When your first extinction fails"
It's the weird co-op FPS where humanity lives on space stations and earth has been taken over by mutant dinos
It's fuckin bizarre to me that Necromunda: Hired Gun got announced three months before release
does anyone else blast out Nordic music ?

Yeah, lol
That and it's not exactly a small game. Fully customizable main character (male or female), upgradeable weapons and cybernetic enhancements for you and your dog, gory af combat, and parkour + a grappling hook so you can go through levels your own way. And it looks damn good too.
Dev tools are getting more and more plug'n'play

https://thegrapevine.theroot.com/zack-snyder-s-justice-league-shows-just-how-dirty-the-t-1846513408
Let me get this out the way right quick: I was not initially on board with Zack Snyder’s Justice League (ZSJL). After being burned by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and feeling sincere heartbreak at how mediocre the 2017 theatrical cut of Justice League was, I simply didn’t want to be disappointed again.
😬
...wow
also fuck now maybe i should watch the Snyder cut. Cyborg's one of my fav. characters from Teen Titans, so it was a bummer to see him given such bleh screentime in JL.
TIL: Joss Whedon's godawful version of JL a couple years ago literally removed everything important. It also removed 99% of the cast who weren't white 😬
And it shat on the entirety of Cyborg's character even though he was basically the protagonist of the original version
ngl i didn't even realize Whedon had a hand in JL
He's the one that made the theatrical "edit"
aka the bleh version
I feel like I watched Suicide Squad shortly before Justice League, so I just chalked it up to DC messiness
Actually, iirc Zack Snyder left the project most of the way through cuz his son died then the studio replaced him with Whedon, who "edited" the movie to make it more theater-friendly and stupid
also sounds like the studio may not have been willing to give more to reshoot some scenes in a better way so even after edit it wouldn't be so bleh
'cause given a budget Whedon can do some decent stuff, but sounds like he was given a crap budget and pressed to work with what was there, plus probably some bullshit deadlines
What about removing all the non-white people
Also, he was apparently an insane dick-bag during filming
Yea I've been thinking about seeing the Snyder cut
Already heard from someone else about the difference being night and day
Well yeah, the theater version was edited by a psycho who would apparently randomly rant about how people disliked his last movie (Age of Ultron) and call the actors of JL......Avengers characters??? He would call Gal Gadot "Natasha" during filming 💀
And uh, somehow during editing a massive amount of racism happened with most of the non-white characters just being completely removed from the movie and the main black character getting rewritten to be a useless nutter
