I submitted a refund request in light of the number of bugs I ran into, the wonky physics that promotions are in no way representative of and the fact the game is being sold as retail now and no longer early access, but I may purchase it again in the future if they address this stuff

This is a big part of why I tend to avoid Early Access games. There's no clear end point of in-development, and Early Access becomes increasingly a joke when you're getting "early" access to a game that might sit in EA for years, and continue to be in-dev for years after it "leaves" EA.

Honestly, I find THQ Nordic does a pretty good job with the games published through them.

The only quests I've really gotten into were when I was roaming near the first town and some sniper lady recruited me to go find her friend who had been kidnapped by a gang....I did the quest and learned a little, but it ended with more questions than it did answers and did nothing to address them

I wandered into an abandoned township of some sort and all that remained were notes left behind...Nothing to motivate me in story and nothing to explain any dynamic.

Just bodies and no baddies anywhere

I don't know if the games story telling element is dynamic or I missed a huge chunk of content somewhere to explain the state of things.

Just get dumped into a mishmash of weird plotpoints

It's not as deep in terms of fleshing out very minor stories like the "kidnapping" side quest but I think where it really shines is the companion relationship progression stuff

Which is unfortunate since they have a lone wolf type perk where you get a bonus for travelling on your own. Game is really boring by yourself which is why the early sections of the game can seem kinda lackluster before Parvati

Not in every case but they interact with the stories you encounter and will give input

If you're still early in the game and haven't worked towards the main quest yet I won't spoil the first major example of this but it definitely has a bearing on things

In some ways it can make you feel like maybe you missed out on a dialogue option if you go through side stories with specific characters rather than ones that might trigger more interesting dynamics but I never felt like I actually lost any opportunities that way

Having certain companions with you can affect the current story arc you're doing, btw. Parvati gives you some interesting options in solving the first town's problems

Yeah, companions have nice commentary that fills in the setting in ways you can't see as a player.
Not even specifically tied to quests.
I trecked up to the top of the mountain on the first planet, and got a touching bit of dialogue from Parvati

The game actually treats them as being there.
They'll interject in quest dialogues and the NPCs will recognize them, changing dialogue patterns.

It's pretty neat

can even ask their opinions on choices

as in, amid the "Choices" box, there's a thing to ask your companions for opinions
