which is sad
I feel like I'm lucky in that regard with Halo 2. I caught it on the tailend of it looking at the best "fine"
@primal inlet actually the code seems mostly harmless
I'm not worried about it doing harmful things, but the spigot reviews report some...eccentric behavior
Halo's another weird one for me. I've only actually played one of the games - idk which one - but I read the Halo books, before I ever touched the game.
well, one
I loved the books.
it makes me sad only the first 2 are on pc
it's a great series
well, up until 4
Halo 1 through Reach are great, and 4 is okay. 5 is shite
When 343 took over it got ruined
but alas
Huh, apparently the book - "Halo: The Fall of Reach" was published in 2001. Was that before the game?
o.O
Probably alongside the first Halo Game
Halo reach was 2010
but it was a prequel to any of the main games
Reach is basically the origin story
it's also the best halo game
This is the book I remember reading. The ring world thing really interested me.
funnily enough "Reach" is the only halo game in the main series that doesn't take place on a Halo π
I read "Halo: The Flood", too.
(of all the Bungie ones anyway, idk about 4 or 5)
That one's from 2003, I guess.
Alongside the release of Halo 2 then I think
halo 2 was either 03 or 05
nevermind
it was '04 haha
also the last one that was on PC sadly, but the 2nd best halo game
The next book is "Halo: First Strike". I haven't read any more past The Flood, but this one was 2003 as well.
just had a shitty ending bc Bungie were forced to release the game
before it was "done"
Wait... maybe I did. I remember the next book, Ghosts of Onyx.
Oh, that's why I got into the Halo books.
I remember now.
This one was published by Tor fantasy.
Fuck
I know what I want to play
wait
no
nevermind
damnit
I wanted to play it and immediately didnt
Could always play a never ending oldie mouldie, like RuneScape.
Never liked RuneScape π
I suddenly got an urge to play the first Destiny and it left immediately when I realised I'd have to reinstall it
ugh fuck LoL
and MOBAs in general
it's actually not a bad game
RuneScape is old, clunky, and full of mechanics that would infuriate any of today's gamers. It's an ancient point and click adventure game, developed in Java for browsers in 1998.
Reminiscent of the old Kings Quest games, and Ultima Online.
The tick system alone, causes extreme anger in most new players.
It's a 600ms tick system.
Every action takes 0.6sec
@iron inlet Also, I have to 100% agree with your opinion on moba games.
I feel the same about any game that's dedicated to combat or pvp.
Like I understand the appeal
I understand why people like them
I just think you're fucking masochistic if you like them
Lol, yeah... I prefer games that added combat as an afterthought.
Like Minecraft.
And NMS.
The main gameplay is based on something other than combat.
guess pvp isn't for everyone
what about pve combat?
any game where I spend 10 minutes destroying a tower whilst my team are off destroying other towers, then repeating, then repeating, and then after 30 minutes of running away and grinding down towers, attacking a core with too much health whilst enemies respawn all over me to then eventually win/lose after nearly an hour
I'm fine with pve, as long as - like I said - the main focus isn't combat.
if a match takes an hour I want no part of it haha
like, would you play ori and the blind forest, which has a great soundtrack, amazing scenery and is mainly a platformer, but also has a lot of necessairy combat?
Idk what either of those are, lol.
Sorry.
And no, if it's a platformer, likely not.
I like open worlds.
oh yeah, I do too, generally but I made an exception for ori and it was amazing, especially the music
Oh. I didn't realise "Ori and the Blind Forest" was the name of a single game.
I thought you named two games.
oh lol
Ori and the Blind Forest Soundtrack Developer: Moon Studios Publisher: Microsoft Studios Composer: Gareth Coker feat. Aeralie Brighton, Rachel Mellis and Tom...
Um
I just pressed "Stop" on my alarm at least 5 times before it actually stopped and got irrationally angered by that fact
Okay, whilst I appreciate that a game might have good music, I don't exactly go out of my way to listen to it outside of the game.
The same with anime, or whatnot. I don't like how people extract the music.
I watch and play stuff for the content.
Not the music.
Sorry lol
well, I wouldn't consider clicking play Γ§going out of ones way* but I get what you mean, I don't listen to soundtracks regularly too, this was just to show that the soundtrack is good
Most of the time, I'll mute the music in games I play.
I think music, scenery, setting, gameplay and optimization all play importantparts in wether a game is good
I'll agree to disagree. <.<
but yeah if the music isn't as amazing as here I generally mute it too
To me, a good game depends on content, the playerbase's behaviour, how active the devs are, and how much "depth" a game has.
I'd consider those important too, sure.
I don't like games with superficial scenery with no function.
well, except maybe active playerbase
Everything should have a purpose, and be interactable.
oh have you played the dishonored games? probably not, they're not that open world. but those have excellent scenery and setting while still using them as gameplay elements. their level design is amazing, if you see a ledge there's a 80% chance that you'd need that ledge in one playthrough
if you see a bottle you can use it to knock someone out
etc...
Hmm... googles
Dishonored is a 2012 stealth action-adventure video game developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.
No, I haven't heard of it at all. Looking some stuff up, it doesn't appear to be my cuppa tea. I'm more into medieval/fantasy games. Sci-Fi is usually a nope for me, with only a small handful of exceptions - No Man's Sky, and Starcraft being two of those. Games based in "modern" times (1800s-present, etc) are usually nope to me, too. I think two exceptions, are GTA and Red Dead Redemption.
dishonored is medival/fantasy though
yeah, it's kinda steampunky
Ok maybe not medival, more like industrial time londony
well steampunk might not be the way to put it, dishonored is very unique and I'm bad at defining generes and that
Yes, it's fine though.
HYPE
What I dug up on google is enough to tell me I won't like it.
@limber harness Bedrock?
da
Omg
That is bedrock.
o.o
So that thing Deluxer suggested actually worked!
@primal inlet
note: it's very broken
Aww
define very broken
I assume graphical, and some functional issues.
Like using items.
wot
That's a...
some interactivity doesnt work
Is that a tablet?
yes
o_o
surface 3
Anywho, whilst I honestly do think this Bedrock to java connectivity stuff is neat, I feel like we should consider hosting a proper bedrock server, if people are interested in it. I'd be willing to volunteer again, if it came to that. Just want people to again be aware that whilst my hardware might be more than capable, my network is severely lackluster.
bedrock server?
aww i cant connect on my phone
Yeah, it's .... "different".
Not in content.
In the way things behave, and control.
I'm also not a fan.
Anyone have access to terraria right at this moment and want to test something for me?
@limber harness just press f2 to take a screenshot
It's easier than taking pictures of your computer
I can do that, but I don't have anything set up on my tablet for uploads.
And easier to see
So, actually not really. I can image+upload from discord mobile but tablet is far more work
Just use discord on the computer?
that means downloading discord canary, signing in, etc.
why not normal discord?
plus f2 doesn't show the fact that it's running on Bedrock nearly as well
because canary has F E A T U R E S

holy crap, DragonProxy really does work
I can't step on half-slabs and chunks load weirdly but it works
...Aaand I think I screwed it up by trying to warp to creative without realizing the possible implications of such an act
no i just didnt give it enough memory
my fault cc @primal inlet
but yeah teleporting is very broken
d r a g o n
NIce, lol.
Mine's just a simple cabin-like shack thing. I've taken to calling it a "rubbish shack".
We're sorta neighbors
I felt like I should at least have a house in town as well
Instead of going full hermit
That's the sole reason I built this, lol.
I plan on going out to 13k or so on the coords.
Just wanted something at spawn.
Yeah. Are you still building underground?
I wamt to build other modern houses
For those who don't want to build
Nope, I finished building underground. I only made a chest room, and an entryway for the minecart system.
Oh nice
Spectator view of it:
I love how my tree appears on half of the screenshots because of how big it is
Just wait until I'm able to continue my plans
Currently the ring in floating and ugly, don't look at it
That's better...
Symbol needs to be a bit more gold.
Yay, it works well on white, as well as black.
I've needed to remake this for some time.
Lol
looks really cool too
It's ... got a long story behind it. I've used that colour, that symbol, and the phrase "veteran noob" to describe myself in games, for years.
Someone who's played for countless hours, but still plays like a noob lol.
nice symbol quav
It originated on a gaming forum that I used to use, many years ago. That icon, and the green name is the "veteran rank", which is what I had on the site. It's reserved for those who have been around for over 5 years.
cool as
Found a cached version of the site, but with a lot of stuff borked.
Here's a signature I made for a member of those forums, on their request:
lol, i'm excellent at playing totally ineptly at games
Back when I played Guild Wars I always made builds that looked/felt cool to me instead of whatever were the in builds at the time
Mostly because GW had some kickass animations and using the other builds just didn't do them justice most of the time imo
Yup, that's exactly why I get called the veteran noob. I play to have fun, and goof around. I'd rather enjoy playing the game - not make it a challenge, or career.
I get why ppl push to play optimally, but it just puts me off a ton
Yeah, lol.
Underlying that though is the design which incentivizes & encourages which is doubly frustrating
Like people wanna play optimally so that they can run the chances quicker to net the loot or whatever they're after more often than not
I accept the fact that people "enjoy" challenges, I just don't enjoy them myself. I'll likely never understand why people enjoy them, despite having innumerous people explain their reasoning to me. To me, it isn't fun to make something difficult on purpose. To me, gameplay has to be easy and spoon-fed for it to be fun.
And just like...Toss that noise, it's digital trash currency; or your build will work sufficiently well without that +5% damage weapon
Ah, see I'm thinking of something rather different. It's not about challenge for these ppl, it's more about breaking the challenge into an easier, faster run to better net results
You might be talking about "Efficiency". Making the gameplay more efficient.
It's like choreographing a perfect heist only you repeat it over and over for cash, loot, or to kill time
None of which appeals to me whatsoever
Yup, I agree.
I don't like efficiency in gameplay.
I prefer to blunder about and goof around as I see fit.
I do and don't, I like some quick smooth plays, but I don't like that to be the primary play method
For instance I totally dig trying to zip through Sonic/Mega Man levels
Well, the efficiency I'm referring to is the robotic-like actions that one repeats to "perfection", on a daily basis without any form of entertainment involved. Just a means to an end.
The people who turn a game into a career of who can attain/achieve the most in a set amount of time.
Huh
I think I recognize that forum
Oh, it was an old Invision power board forum, spirit.
Do you recognise the name username "5ive", or "Chance" as one of the admins/web devs?
He was mostly responsible for the backend management of the forums.
Stuff like making sure people's passwords were secure, and stuff displayed properly.
IPBoards are well known for database leaks.
Yeah, Quav, a lot of GW players were kind of that way. They wanted to rake in the cash to get the expensive sets of armor to look how they'd like, which not knockin' for that, but the methodology ended up compelling other players to get in line and use cookiecutter builds way too much
LF [insert buildname here] was the worst
I wish the Dragon Knights game would return.
That was opened for closed Beta testing, and then never came back.
Only have one screenshot of it, from like 2012.
Mind you, that was in lowest settings.
On a really old pc.
I was using a Dell Dimension E510 at the time, which had a Pentium 4 @3.8Ghz, and a Nvidia GT 9600 graphics card.
"DK Online"
Ooh
Apparently, they brought it back and stuck it on Steam Greenlight in 2017.
Oh. It's a Korean game. That makes more sense why it's taking so long.
Ties in well with earlier discussion
This is kinda random, but here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PGG46jF0AY
I recorded this in May 2016, on my old home server I used to play.
I decided to merge my three monitors together, via Nvidia Surround. Afterwards, I recorded a little bit of MineCraft. Due to how amazing this looked to me, I...
hohohoho
hahahaha
just found a massive exploit on the server
not sure whether or not i should say anything about it tho
:D
π
join and i'll show you (i'm joking about not telling)
DM me.
hopefully kaz can fix it
@tough heron https://i.imgur.com/9saXAEW.png
I was afk. Stuff was happening on the Rs wiki discord.
you got remastered? Nice!
Yea itβs a blast
finna pick it up
PcMasterRace

hahaha it's funny because PC doesn't have enough racing games
A bit off topic, but Jeb (one of the main Minecraft devs) made a statement saying that the Java edition of Minecraft will be abandoned, and be renamed as the "community edition", in favour of Bedrock's C++. Jeb begins with a disclaimer of something like "looking down the road many years from now". So that sets the stage for everything else he says. https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/6j4bn5/the_end_of_minecraft/djbhur6/
Mm, that wouldn't shock me
I wonder if they'll gradually open up the Java version more, or if that would even be needed to support further, perhaps more extensive community reworking of it
@limber harness, here have a random Linux error from a friend who uses Wine on Linux to run RuneScape:
Oh, wait. Other way around.
Idk, lol.
They're a lot like me, but with software. Self-taught, and absolutely nuts about learning and knowing all they can about coding, software, etc.
I'm the polar opposite - it's all hardware for me.
π€
encrypted communications from the load balancer to the game server
Goddammit spirit
This is the survival world
So please play survival. You can build creative stuff in the creative world
^
We made strict rules about this
We wanted the survival world to be more serious and survival only
How did spirit even gain his gamemode 1 back
he's an admin
Spirit wasn't subject, I presume?
no, he's admin
He's been the one abusing stuff the most of everyone wasn't he?
How did he gain admin
and as far as ik, no poll was actually made to see whether or not people wanted to be more serious
theres ideas for it, but i don't think its been made into a poll yet
I think we mostly agree that spawning items and PVP'ing is generally a bad choice
mhm. I'm personally of the mindset of "eh, whatever goes, goes" but thats because i've been playing for many many years and have seen it all pretty much
but thats me, i don't know how to setup a proper poll on atlas division like the ones there already
oh yes thank for for reminding me
Admins generally keep the peace, so I'm fine with that
Strawpoll is nice but easily malleable
yes, I know
could you set that up asap kaz?
if we are all happy with the contents of the poll and don't think anything is missing?
are we?
I think we should wait for others to wake up
There's a relatively minor amount of players online right now so I think we need to talk this a bit further
Alrighty then
..i've gone cra-aa-zzy~
But I mean. Is building an entire house at spawn in creative, 2 actually, even considered casual survival anymore
If that is then I vote serious, but if that goes too far even now I vote casual
note: minecraft mod apps are open! simply tell me, any Atlas Division mod, or any MC server mod to get added to the candidates list. It's really that easy!
Hm, do I need to fill in a whole form?
no
literally just tell me "i want to be a mc server mod"
i'll add you to the candidates list and eventually add you to the election once i set it up
Well. When you removed my OP I already told you I was interested
So
I'll be able to come online again as well starting this midday
ok
Vote, people!

@cinder vessel
Your creeper thing is being polled.
Cheers for the heads up, much appreciated! π
Yup. =)
Btw been meaning to ask, does dynmap primarily work off of just however players have traversed the world it's...Uh...Linked up to or whatever?
@cinder vessel Dynmap updates the map based on player movement, player block placement, and block breaking. Every world (nether, end, survival, and creative) follow these rules.
The flat render is usually updated quicker than the 3D one.
However, the 3D one is default.
Yeah, noticed. I'm used to offline play so the map renderers I've used in the past have largely been a quick scan of wherever I've been
We essentially have a ... "fog of war". All the black areas.
I think they may have tapped the save or something for that, but it would require rescanning anytime you explored some more, so definitely not ideal
But for offline solo play, was pretty nice, especially back before there was an in-game map item to craft
Um, yeah. Offline map renders are much quicker; I'd assume it also has something to do with the tool used. Dynmap is well known (notorious, I might add) for being a massive cpu and storage space hog.
With the limited access to the Xeon that Kaz is using, it's kinda eating the poor thing up.
We share cores with other users on the same hardware.
So we don't get the full Xeon to ourselves.
Haha, yeaah, makes sense then
I've not kept up to date with Minecraft utilities so I'm just guessing it's the best for that task
Yup, sadly Dynmap is the only one filling the gap for a web map.
No one else exists.
(To my knowledge.)
@limber harness
Is that true?
Oh, okay.
i had a custom map engine before that did that but i am not porting it to this server.
amidst is always an option
Well, yeah. That means giving players the seed.
as are most minimaps, at least if players have the seed
Yeah, because the seed is no longer a secret
everyone already has it
Oh, minimaps will, yes. I meant like proper maps. Such as the full screen one on Journeymap and Xaero - neither show builds, but both minimaps do.
At least the ingame maps have decent .. uh, what's the word for it... that flat scale levelling? Makes it look like it has depth, despite being flat. Vanilla maps do a good job at that.
lol, i have no idea wtf to do with granite
when i'm home i'm gonna do two things
1: continue installing fortnite
2: play minecraft on the server
yeah, the download took way too long according to my mom so i had to pause it and put my pc in sleep mode
fun
hit f3
^
screenshot that
I want to see if its using your gpu.
$20 says it's not
riplol
hah
that happened to me when i tried running custom texture packs on my old af macbook
all the textures just kinda died
Omg
install graphics drivers
use an actual gpu

lol
if youre running on windows, go to nvidia settings and set java to run on the dedicated chip
^

wyis gets flamed for intel hd (colourised)
what did you even do to break things spirit
even worse
meanwhile i have a dedicated GPU worse than an intel hd 4000 in my lappy
you're gonna see a massive spike in framerate without shaders lol
I'm aware haha
@agile raven Right click on your desktop, https://i.imgur.com/5mI0gVP.png and choose minecraft: https://i.imgur.com/uLABL4M.png

pretty much what quav said]
Um. Actually, there's an easier way than setting up a custom profile.
there is but that works too
@agile raven https://i.imgur.com/i0hgqyD.png
Select the gpu as the OpenGL renderer.
In global settings.
Then click apply.
You'll obviously need to restart the game entirely
also a good way to use your gpu way more
^
yoou must have the sword as a cursor, else it doesnt work /s
that moment when everything just breaks
wtf
Spirit have you tried restarting Australia?
@limber harness, can you poke the routing table?
wont help
poking the table only really works when i need to add a new custom route
spirit already has one so
So, it wasn't comcast causing your connection issues when I was hosting, Spirit. <.<
.>
well comcast didnt help
but no, it wasnt just comcast
sending data over the ocean is hard
pfft you just stick it in bottles what could go wrong
@limber harness I think I had it set at 512.
havent touched it, and i doubt it
this is just a latency thing
i can't make data go faster than the speed of light.
i wish i could, because that would be awesome
the only solution for consistent pings to WYIS would be to put the server in Singapore
Which is something I can't really do for a large number of reasons.
Pretty
pretteh
part of the shader
@agile raven, sorry. I was responding to a rather important DM. Yes, there's a way in SEUS v11, but not the Renewed v1 yet.
I'm using chocapic
Oh
I'm not sure at all, then.
Your 1080 is more than capable of running SEUS.
It's the current top shader out there.
For visual quality.
cough continuum2
yeah but
(Kaz thinks Continuum v2 is better. >.>)
It doesn't want to use my GPU
Did you make a profile or use global?
Which shader - SEUS, or Chocopic?
I know the renewed version of SEUS has some pretty dense atmospheric effects.
Not sure on Chocopic.
I just know the latter is just a low-quality one for low spec machines.
You can make it clearer on SEUS v11, but the Renewed v1 right now is pretty limited.
The renewed version is a WIP, so lots of stuff is unfinished.
Um
May I drop two files here, Spirit?
The .txt file is the configuration.
sure
I have it configured to be a certain way, and I've edited the GLSL files in the pack to have proper clouds.
That should be much clearer than what you were seeing.
And it'll look nicer.
Especially the clouds, lol.
Make sure you disable vanilla clouds, first though.
What's the best fps I can get with SEUS and what settings do I have to use without sacrificing the nice things?
Your 1080 is more than capable of running it without changing anything lol.
I get 40fps on my 1080 Ti
Hmm, seems clouds are borked on my end. I wonder why that is...
Oh, I know why your fps is low, lol. Sorry. I forgot to change the settings back down. I had everything turned up to max, last time I used it.
Specifically, the shadow resolution lol.
is anyone with op currently on the server? cause I have a small favour to ask
the village that I built my ironfarm and breeder next to has no farmers, so I'd have to place about 2000 rails from the closest village that has 2 farmers, cause I need those specifically
it'd be neat if someone could spawn two or three farmers in that village, so I can get them into the farm
brown
π€
i should really continue my efforts to move my nuke/blast-test area to the desert near the spawn
i destroyed the old area, and i have all the stuff in chests
but i havent actually ventured out and placed some shit
im thinking any of the red marked areas would be good.
the x is too close to skips base imo
and the question mark would only be good if nobody occupies/uses that village
its gonna be in the desert for (made up) ecological reason lol
i dont want to blow up a forest
i could also do it on this little island here π€
@agile raven You'll be replacing this file: https://i.imgur.com/ICg4Zrg.png
o.O
Wrong folder lol
Back one.
In shaderpacks
AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\shaderpacks
if nobody gives a shit about the location of the blast test area ill just do it on an existing structure
relogging now
no wait that would get me beaned
beaned
i would like to get beaned from the server
π
random i imagine as long as it isnt near any structures, no-one is too bothered
i think the island has a lot of advantages, like accessibility.
would require a lot of digging, and i have to see if it isnt too small of an area for my plans, but i can expand if necessary.
sounds good !
having water nearby to soften any TNT carts that fly away would be very useful too
aight, that settles it.
im moving the blast test area there
enjoy :)
looks large enough and even a few lava deposits i can turn into obsidian for blast-proof areas :)
i should write my plan for this down somehwere π€
@strong hazel, sorry. I was trying to help spirit with shader stuff. I can do that for you, if you'd like.
just putting my plan here i guess
grey: bunker areas
yellow: observation buildings
Red: danger zone/expected max blast radius
Green: main HQ
pink: farming/manufacturing facility
dark red: shooting range (?)
green/blue ish: underwater test zone
i claim the island
its gonna (hopefully) be full blown military base thing lol
this shit might change too lol, im just putting it here so i dont forget
island looks larg
might not even have to expand into the water lol
oof, thats gonna require a lot of digging
i keep trying to set a marker or something there lmao
lmao i just noticed this was clickable
delet
π¨
saving this for future reference
rough location of new military base:
β PSA: If anyone wants to try Sea of Thieves and doesn't wanna part with Β£50, it's included in XBox Pass and SoT is a "Play Anywhere" game meaning you get to download the Windows version: https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/games/xbox-game-pass
I don't have an Xbox and was able to download it and play it on my PC last night. Given the average reviews on it, a 2 week trial should be good enough time to see what you think! π
You need your paypal account/credit card to join the free trial, but I just cancelled mine immediately. (Otherwise it's Β£7.99 a month if you want to carry on with it)
Thank you Matthew π
Welcome π
I'm using FlowsHD for the texturepack
and SEUS Renewal for Shaders
Looks real nice
now youre making me want to download texture packs
but my gpu cant run those graphics-heavy things
what's your GPU?
GTX 760.
on my pc that is
it makes a lot of noise when i play minecraft without any texture packs/shaders
so...
wowthattexturepackisnice
who created this π€
I should probably lay down. It's 05:42 in the morning here.
G'morning, I guess? Lol. Can't really say g'night.
Texture pack's a matter of VRAM, isn't it? Doesn't need to be very powerful as long as you can store it in memory
^
I have a lot of VRAM.
Roblox.
I guess I'm going to post only NMS, Minecraft, and my future video game that will probably be made in the 2020s screenshots.
why am i having such a hard time connecting to the mc server
its like
i continously get thrown out
@limber harness could you help me?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
ugh
π
im getting way different errors every time
but i cant stay in the server for 5 minutes before i get thrown out again
i tried using the other adress and that didnt help at all
this is the most common error^
anyone?
"The external host has a broken binding"?
...that sounds like the Aussie error
google translates it to "the external host has disconnected"
i have absolutely no issues doing anything else with internet, including going to different minecraft servers
Itβs ponging

Fuck u session
could be that the servers they're hosted on are acting up again
π€·
Probably.
errror message?
@prisma geyser you talked about community lol games the other day, right?
Cause with all those games being suggested I feel like we could use roles for that. Maybe so that people can assign themselves roles for big games, like pubg or Lol or whatever games the community has an interest in
._.
i feel like that'd get really messy real fast
Probably shouldβve put that in #discord-server-feedback
just from a role perspective i mean
Oh yeah
Oh. >.<
Probably
Nevermind then, that could actually be a big problem
says kaz
Lol
wait i misread his comment, still stands π
I'm just... really heavily biased against PvP as a whole. Think of it as a knee-jerk reaction to instantly point a finger of blame or whatever at PvP stuff.
why?
Old, tired debate that I've had too many times to count. It's based on nothing but personal experience and extreme bias on my end.
neat
everyone has their own opinions, not hating on yours was just curious as to why
Nah you can hate pvp all you want, some people just donβt like it, that doesnβt make it bad for everyone
Yeah what skip said
I mean
Eh, okay. Sorry. I immediately went into defensive mode.
PvP in general is a pretty cool game mechanic
Is Tic-Tac-Toe PVP?
PvP within the context of NMS is...a bit more of a faceted debate
i do not want PVP in NMS unless it's very well done and still seperate
I'm referring to LoL and Smite type PvP.
Oh
Killing one another.
Well then
killing each other is how i bond with people π€
lol
Same
Not a fan of teamkilling myself, but I guess itβs nice
Competition against other players (such as racing for resources, certain exp in skills, etc) is great, and can be really fun in some situations. It's the killing of one another type of PvP that I have extremely strong opinions against.
Honestly, this isn't a discrepancy I've ever had to explain before. It makes me wonder if others may have misunderstood it, and been the cause of past arguments.
could be.
You should elaborate because I'm intrigued
^^
yeah, i'm still really curious as to why you don't like it
I'll repeat this, just in case: It's based on nothing but personal experience and extreme bias on my end.
No hard facts, and lots of generalisation.
Thatβs fine
we heard you loud and clear π
Everyone is generalising all the time
πΏ
The PvP communities as a whole (players killing one another) always seems to be full of toxic nutjobs who don't give one whit about game integrity. Verbal abuse, such as spewing profanity and insults is common practise, as is the 'darker' stuff like DoS, DDoS, and Doxxing. Now, whilst this is true based on my own personal experience, I can also say that I've run into a few friendly people who actually enjoy combat against other players simply because it's fun to them. Theses sorts tend to be honourable, and will even be willing to commend you on the fight, afterwards. However, they're extremely rare. The most common PvP'ers will be keyboard mashing lunatics, who only wish to cause you harm - mentally, emotionally, and if possible, physically. They'll go out of their way to harass you, and make your life a living hell, if you let them.
I can say that I somewhat fit into the honourable category I mentioned, and I do enjoy PvP to that extent. Whilst I am prone to anger, and will become easily upset, I don't take it out on others. It's really difficult for me to enjoy PvP at all in the vast majority of games, due to constantly being matched with the toxic types of people. I lose my temper, and either become extremely sloppy and horrible with my gameplay, or I have to quit and take a break. This - obviously - means I don't get to enjoy myself. So as such, I tend to avoid games that focus entirely on PvP combat, like LoL, Smite, CoD, and other games.
i see
I tried to cut it down a bit, and make reasonable statements/conclusions.
interesting
Iβve seen that point brought up a lot of times, but always as a reason why the community and playerbase is bad, never before as an argument against pvp itsself
i guess most of the things i play i either play with friends or there isn't really any method of communication between players
That does help.
the only game i play that has consistent communication is Siege
yeah I never really play pvp games alone too
whenever I play pvp I play with friends and then I communicate with them instead of with the enemy. appart from the gl hf at the start and the gg wp at the end I barely talk to opponents
i mean...most games now you can't even talk to the enemy at all
well if you ever wanna experience them while talking to others, I'm sure there's a lot of people here who would be up for a game or two, but I can understand if you don't wanna play with random people you met on discord either
^^^
I've no qualms with teaming up with random people, especially if they are ones I've spoken to prior in a friendly manner - like you, and Skip. A lot of the PvP games I've tried, were heavily prone to attracting Pubstompers, which meant having a team beforehand, would really help.
oh yeah I hate having random teammates too
that's mainly why I stopped playing LoL actively
the people I played with still play regularly but our schedules didn't always match up and I didn't wanna play woth more than 1 or two random people in my team
One game in particular, called Robocraft, has a matching system and you can easily get stuck in "ELO Hell", due to how common pubstomping is.
It didn't used to be like that, honestly.
They added a new system in 2017, and it was heavily abused.
MMR Hell, if you know that term better.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_hell
Elo hell (also known as MMR hell) is a video gaming term used in MOBAs and other multiplayer online games with competitive modes. It refers to portions of the matchmaking ranking spectrum where individual matches are poor quality and are often de...
yeah, that must suck. I only ever tried robocraft once but it's not my game. way too chaotic
same
There's a specific Japanese "clan" that camps the matchmaker on new accounts, for easy kills.
We call that smurfing.
smurfing is for dweebs
especially when they announce it beforehand "hey, I'm smurfing, I^'m actually diamond" and then they stomp you and you know it's coming
did someone say smurfs
It's kinda nice to be able to talk to people who know what I'm on about. I'm honestly still shocked y'all didn't try to pick apart the opinion I shared earlier.
Join the Enlightened. Join the real side.
When I play those games, and people ask "Why play them if you don't enjoy them?" It's like... grrr. I enjoy them, when I can actually enjoy them lol...
everyone has their own opinions π€·
why would we pick apart your opinion, we're here to talk about games, not try mand disagree with you at all costs
yo pve sux
Yeah, like I said... knee-jerk reaction to immediately be defensive. I'm used to people arguing, seemingly just to argue.
quav yu gy
LeJet c'mon
Don't get people who want to actually talk, without being an arsehat.
i find usually most people here are pretty good
why did i get an alert for this channel
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
no one knows kaz cause we don't know the triggerwords
Probably a tag that was instantly deleted. I was looking at another tab in Chrome.
no, not a tag
Eh. Weirdly, I've had a red [1] symbol in channels that I never use, and when I go to find it, nothing's there.
i have a watcher that tracks and looks for certain words, and alerts me to those too
Oh
used primarily for server moderation
was the keyword "argue?" π€
heh
RuneScape reference in Fortnite.
https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/85wgb6/tldw_370_rs_mobile_showcase/
As much as I despise mobile devices, RuneScape being ported to mobile phones and whatnot as an 'app' is going to be groundbreaking. To my knowledge, no other MMO on the PC has ever done this. It's literally just a game client designed, and built specifically for mobile devices with touch screens. Not a seperate game - you'd be playing side-by-side with people in the same gameworld as those on their cellphone.
does roblox count?
Lol, it's not really an MMO, is it? It's more in the Minecraft category.
yeah π
Minecraft is on mobile as well, and has this interconnectivity across consoles, phones, and pcs.
Via Bedrock.
A proper, full fledged MMO, though? That's unheard of.
It's like WoW or Guild Wars 2 being ported to Mobile.
Likely on a larger scale, even, if game content is anything to go by.
RS does hold the guinness world record for being the most frequently updated MMO.
neat
As of July 25, 2017, Runescape has achieved 3 new Guinness world records, them being the following:
-The most users of an MMO video game being 254,994,744
-The most prolifically updated MMORPG video game which had 1,014 updates
-The most original pieces of music in a video game (including expansions) being 1,198
hey that's my birthday
not even one year old and already a mod, incredible
23rd of April 1991, is mine.

These awards can now be added to the already plentiful haul of previous Guinness World Records. Jagex has nine records so far which include 'Most bots banned in a week', 'Most complex HTML 5 code in a videogame' and 'Most Fish in a videogame'. For anyone looking to take that last record, 8 billion fish were caught in RuneScape during 2012. So you'd best get to developing that fishing mechanic. And no auto fishing machines like in Minecraft, real fishing, please.
TIL
So long, and thanks for the 8 billion fish?
bye dolphin
Ah, ha! Here we go, @light cairn: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/most-prolifically-updated-mmorpg
I knew there was a proper page for it.
dang that's a lot of updates
Every monday, and sometimes more than once in a week, depending on what it is.
Monday is always patch note day, regardless.
do they always add or balance stuff or is it just the same bugfixes
What do you mean, same bug fixes? o.O
Oh
No, it's always more than bug fixes. Every monday is new game content, with the patch notes consisting of "other news", such as bug fixes, additional QoL stuff, balancing changes, etc.
oh wow
Like, here was this week's patch notes: http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/forums.ws?15,16,24,65998748
Sometimes it's less than others.
This week was pretty low.
This was the main update: http://services.runescape.com/m=news/pieces-of-hate--player-gallery
They added a new quest to the game, called Pieces of Hate. It's the finale to the Pirate quest series.
And mind you, Rs does actual quests. Not those disgusting "kill 10 of this" things most MMOs have.
It's a proper quest with story, lore, and everything.
I liked RS until the point that the game told me I had to pay to access further content
at which point I deleted my account
note this was in like 2009
Lol. You don't have to pay for anything.
nah I went like, as far east as the game would let me, there was a gate, and it told me I had to buy a subscription or something to go further
You can play the game entirely f2p, by just playing the game. Earn gold ingame, and buy Bonds on the Grand Exchange. Use those to purchase membership.
maybe this was earlier than 2009
It's like EVE and WoW in that respect. Membership entirely through gameplay.
see I was about 14 when that happened
so I hadn't yet grasped that concept
How much does it take to get 3mil anyway?
o.o
is the map in runescape big?
You're thinking of 07, @primal inlet.
yes
hmm
It's not "RuneScape".
It's the re-release of the 2007 version of the game, which was added in 2013.
It's been heavily modified by player votes.
Anywho, 3m gold in 07 only takes a few hours.
Most gold gathering rates are 200k-800k in f2p.
200k-800k an hour*
@strong hazel I guess that depends on your own perception. It's small compared to WoW, but pretty large once you start playing and realise how everything works.
Increasing the size of the gameworld has been a long-debated thing that is constantly brought up, and talked about by the devs and players. They can always add more to it, but making the "scale" of the existing gameworld larger than it currently is, is a daunting task.
They are constantly adding to it, mind you.
There's already a new continent coming.
Wait I'm just now scrolling through the PvP discussion
yeah I looked at it on google a bit and it seems that the map isn't huge, but a lot of people are saying that lore wise, it should be extended
@prisma geyser PvP in RuneScape is akin to combat in NMS. The game itself is not centred around combat at all. In fact, combat is more of a secondary feature to the main content.
Instead, you have "skills" you train, such as woodcutting, mining, smithing, etc.
you dislike MOBAs because of the ELO/MMR hell? I mean don't get me wrong it sucks that it's there, but it's not that impossible to climb out of it.
And yea smurfs suck but they're only there for one game either stomping or carrying you, then they're on to the next until they hit their actual rank again.
I guess I'm just a little biased (see: my pfp) but I get where you're coming from, they aren't for everyone c:
No, that's not at all it lol. You didn't go up far enough.
@prisma geyser This is why I dislike PvP: https://i.imgur.com/CnbVhBf.png
ah
and I definitely get where you're coming from now, but I like my solution
"/mute all"
π
at least in League
because I play jungle anyway, so I know the second I don't gank at 2 minutes because they tried to level 1 cheese their enemy laner, I'm getting flamed (such is the life of a jungle main)
do you often play solos though, fluffy? or always with others
I'm usually solo
don't have any friends in my rank that want to climb with me
q.q
bruh it's pretty easy to do once you get the hang of it
it's mostly watching the minimap to get an idea of where the enemy is and waiting for a lane to overextend
yeah I know, when I played solo it just always felt like my teammates didn't know what wards were
lmao that's why I always make sure I keep my most frequented jungle entry warded, and drake/baron depending on game time
what's your rank?
I am champ god 69 rank

oh I never really played competitive, highest I ggot is silver 3 I think
aka "What is this convo I don't understand help"
that's pretty decent, I'm silver 2 xP
but I never played more than 30 or so ranked games per season
Champion God is always my default response when someone asks me what rank I am in a game. I'm gonna be screwed when a game comes out where Champion God is a rank though
do you play ranked regularly or are you more of a normals player?
I almost exclusively play ranked π with the intent of getting Gold 5 and then switching to norms until end of season
I'm a nobody in LoL: https://lolprofile.net/summoner/euw/Quavelen
Only played for a little.
just look at my match history to know I'm not exactly good
although, ignore those last 2 games I tried a new kha build
I guess my activity is too old, for match history.
ah fuck I forgot to mention I can only host nightly league matches in NA server
oh right, lol has region lock per account
I started LoL in ... 2012 or 2013 or so, before things got huge and blew up.
well, I could always make an NA account but that'd be lvl1
I mean it'd be norms for NMSCord nights π
yeah lol back then was a wildly different game, meta wise
the ping might suck tho
can you play custom games from lvl 1 on?
yeha the ping will suck, I'll just play veigar :P
so you'd be at a disadvantage, unless they removed that
imma make an NA account real quick
lol the client has to restart even when I only switch region
you're playing on euw?
@strong hazel, here's a more accurate map of RuneScape today:
It includes the Arc Islands.
nah I'm back on NA
that uh.... looks small and big at the same time
was talking about when I moved a WHILE ago
I've since moved back to the US from Germany xD
We currently only have "The Arc", which is the first cluster of islands, just before The Skull: https://i.imgur.com/T3KPTMz.png
The Skull is coming soon.
Then The Hook
Etc
how big are those islands, for comparison?
ok yeah looks pretty bad for the na client so far, but I guess I'll have to try a game to test it
aight fam I hope it runs okayish
my wife had like ~120 ping average
which was playable
yeah, can't test it today but I'll probs do it tomorrow, I'll tell you if it's playable
I live pretty close to germany so it should work
Here's the main island, Waiko: https://i.imgur.com/W2QY1DH.png
colors
is that mountain part of the same island?
Yup
ok I might check runescape out sometime
I'm using the old interface.
The newest interface doesn't fit too well on 1080p.
I gotta use 1440p to really get any use out of it.
runescape is on mobile?
Soon(tm)
can I play the same character on mobile and PC?
It's the same exact game.
Just a client
Here's the new interface on Rs: https://i.imgur.com/ywyJFx5.jpg
cause I don't really have a laptop so when I go somewhere else I can never bring games with me
does it have a lot of variety in skills and such?
Yes, lol.
cause I love games where you have like 50 skills to pick from and you gotta use 10 or so. like divinity:OS 2
