The Crimson Desert Update today is absolutely fantastic.

I can optimize my clothing look now with custom gear displays, and the lighting has been almost entirely restored (WITHOUT NEEDING RAY FKING TRACING)

There's still a little bleeding of global illumination but it's manageable

I think New World could've fixed all of their issues if they'd just made PVP xp its own system that fed into a pool that was entirely structured around PVP bonuses and PVE xp its own system feeding into a PVE bonus, like levels but each type of gameplay rewarding its own on its own merit.

They spent way too much time trying to marry the two dysfunctional systems

They had something by keeping the systems related politically

They lost it by trying to make them have babies

Honestly, I enjoyed the political system that was born of the PVP in New World. It was a solid motivating factor in guild recruitment and building real player alliances.

They dropped the ball with all the changes they made to make PVP and PVE more intimately engaged.

I'd find people who were annoying in global chat and join the side that was capable of killing them

They should've focused on turning the political system into a real network contingent on PVP elements like trade alliances between points of interest, etc.

Instead they were like....Lets give the casuals and normies the ability to reward an alliance without ever getting involved by creating town boards

The game is actively prioritizing enemies

Huffing chaos can get you all kinds of twitchy and you might not even be aware that you are huffing chaos. Winterscale was definitely slipping and it's not him being paranoid but just itching for violence, if memory serves right he also wasn't above using stimms so he can keep going longer

Depends on what you're interested in, whether the game will keep you.

There are a lot of tedious elements in the game that will piss you off. The dialogue, the grind with the camp, the gatekeeping of basic features like cosmetic dying and changing hair.

The game has a lot of things in it that do not serve the game in any way but to make it take longer to do.

Combat though is insane. It's like someone gave Batman a knife and drugs.

I’d give story a 5-6 as it only sucks imo because of the voice acting itself. I like the actual story albeit basic. But the voice lines are just atrocious.

Like the way cliff responds “yes” to things is so copy pasted and monotone emotionless.

Another time I took over a POI and some npc gave me thanks for cliff to again emotionless say “that’s a relief” which didn’t even fit the convo lmao
