One of reasons I don't really get into games like stellaris or total war too much is this

I don't really have that much problem with there being expansions. It's just the amount of expansions those games get feels intimidating at times

DLC and expansions are standard now, for some good reasons and some bad.

E.g.
After game releases most of the staff doesn't really have much to do if there isn't another game at appropriate point in production. They can work on DLC if there is not much else to do.

Players get more content, devs some extra revenue.

Games in early access are expected to add content without extra pay wall bc game is not feature complete when you pay for it.

Games don't suddenly get low reviews just bc they got DLC or expansion

If devs cut out content from the main product for the purpose of DLC, if value proposition bad, devs get up to some suspicious practices etc. That's when people start getting upset

Whenever i'm thinking of trying a a game, i usually look for any kind of paywall, especially microtransactions. If the game is heavy on it, i'll be more careful. .

There's a game i play that i usually spend no more than 21 bucks per month, and get a good amount of in-game currency. That is provided i don't get every characters in a gacha game.

There's a game that i quitted and don't wanna talk about it as it infuriates me, especially with their shady practice of secretly manipulate probabilities...

that was the final nail to coffin, i'm not gonna ever return to the game anymore

Update on my Lords of the Fallen playthrough: It hath been completed and I started NG+0 with some modifiers turned on for the funnies and to do the complicated ending for the game, and both of those things should be in every Souls game without requiring mods, not just LotF
Random loot, random enemies, Ironman Mode, and enemy density modifiers being built into a Souls-like without requiring mods is cool af, big fan. And NG+0, which is just a restart of the game without any difficulty escalation so you can speedrun it or whatever is also fun
