Iirc. the devs had 6 months or smth to put enough of a game together to make for a trailer.

You have a base you build with people in it you have to keep fed and healthy, but you get the resources for everything by doing expeditions into the Chernobyl area, which is a ghost town full of evil soldiers and mutants and creepy af ghost things. The overall plot of the story is you're a scientist trying to get together a strong enough group to do a raid into the mutated heart of Chernobyl cuz your wife disappeared there

The gameplay feels like a mix of STALKER and Metro. You use a weird radioactive portal device to take you to mission areas with different supplies in them, you carefully get the stuff and explore a bit to get extra things if you want, then you portal back to home base to build up your base more and craft better gear for yourself

even some obscure lore, like Halo Devices, things that grow into your body, allow you to go as long as you want without sleep or exhaustion, stop your aging but eventually turn you into a monster, an almost immortal, unstopable moster

You can find one in RG and different companions have different reactions, no one want's you to use it, some companions will straight out take it away from you with no option to get it back (even Marazhai and chaos hate those things)

Put a few hrs in & not bad so far

You start of being sent to a planet that you eventually crash on & find out it isn't very hospitable, thrown in like the First Martian movie you're tasked with trying to survive, explore & see if you can do anything for what seems a doomed Outpost.

Soon in you will be blasting minerals with your omni tool which can (using the d pad) mine rocks, blast dust away to reveal seeds, scrap or even maybe some lore from previous visitors, a water jet for farming & a tiling tool for planting.

The gfx have a retro aesthetic using a 3d environment with a fixed camera & drawn sprites like in the recent 2d HD games.

You home base along with the technology you unlock is like in the usual farming games though this has that scifi theme to it.

Beautiful chip music chirps away in the background as you work & explore.

Before long you will have tasks that if complete will bring in specialist settlers to help & even the odd alien technology 👀 👽.

If you like games like stardew valley you should settle in quickly with this. It isn't maybe quite as polished in places yet but it seems to be an overall enjoyable game.

The contingency hijacks your fleets, the scourge is also just really really powerful, but awakened empires are also pretty rough

Also I've found Galactic Fleet Projection and Galactic Dominance perks help if you're gonna play warlike.
Which seems to be like 99% of AI empires.

Also something I learned recently, if your economy can support it, going over the fleet/starbase limit is very plausible.
I had like 175% starbase and 76% fleet penalty. 😄
