In Rogue Trader you have to spend Talent points to use something that's not just a stub- or lasgun.
Bolters have single- or burst fire, and can overpen to hit multiple enemies in a line.
Plasma has OC and AoE.

Some of them, think of them like starting points of a tree
For example on Pascal you could go for dropping as many stacks of tactical advantage as possible, game will recommend "Tide of Excellence", every time you trigger stacks of tactical advantage your char will get flat stacking bonus to damage until the end of the fight and later fights will get longer, but Pascal will dish out stacks only to enemies He can see, taking a perk "uncanny sight" will drop a stack even on enemies that he cant see. there are also other perks for increasing how many stack enemies will receive
Each stack increases dmg operative will deal or you can use them to heavily debuff them
There are some good perks game doesn't recommend and some that are recommended wont be that useful depending on direction you take with the character
I would also recommend having Cassia tag along, she is an officer and can buff allies and give them extra turns
Navigator perks can also give her survivabily on par with a Space Marine

I only remember when Epic made their own direct system for Fortnite Mobile microtransactions that would bypass the 30% cut Apple takes for games on their store.

I think this game shows quite nicely why certain things work the way they work in 40k
In ACT 1 you encounter a prison colony on an asteroid with an ongoing riot
Guy in charge of that prison started doing unspeakable things like giving prisoners 3 meals a day and not beating them to death when they collapsed from exhaustion after working in the mines
The madman started giving rewards for prisoners who exceeded the quota.
Some prisoners you meet, who joined the riot to survive but immediately turn on the heretics when they see you, comment on how horrible thay expirence was
Thing is guy would most likely succeed in running his prison mostly ethically, but they unearthed some artifact and bc warden was spending a lot of time with the prisoners they all got corrupted
You as the player are given options that we irl would consider as the morally good ones but in most cases we end up uprooting the established order and then leaving folks to fend for themselves and in 40k people dont know how to cope with that

Funnily enough there was no chaos influence there until they found that artifact, like if the plot didn't demand it the prison would most likely remain loyal and uncorrupted
