Early thoughts on Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown

Performance is better than the demo, but still very rough. It runs far worse than would be expected for its visual fidelity, and eats VRAM for lunch

Issues with the AI being too aggressive/not acknowledging the player's position and bonking them

There's some issues with matchmaking and server overload

The game itself is quite enjoyable. If those issues can be ironed out it will be well worth it - but I'd suggest most folks hold off on it for a few weeks at least

The car handling feels nice, a good balance of arcadey and realistic with a good amount of flexibility to be more or less realistic if the player desires

Handling on dirt and gravel feels very good too

Cruising the open world is fun and you can even use turn signals

Enjoying the music variety on the in-game radio

Sony decided to pull a lot of titles that require PSN for some features, even though you don't need PSN account in most cases.
They don't wanna be in the whole position again of having to issue refunds cause people claim breach of contract

I would say that is a fair sentiment for Helldivers.
On the other Games though, not so much.
It was more collateral damage. The games that people definitely needed online and PSN link anyone could launch the game, see they can't play it, close down and refund.

All others that only partially require it for features were fine.
Don't think Sony ever did a thing where they intended to later make PSN requirement mandatory on purpose.
Again, that only seems to have been a thing for Helldivers so far.

And you could probably even say that it may have not been their intention all along.
Helldivers player count made someone higher up at Sony feel like they needed to capitalize on those numbers by getting PSN stats up, to show to the next quarterly board meeting

I still very much doubt they truly intended to later make it a requirement.
Feels like a decision done in a whim, from someone or a group of people who thought they were being geniuses

Fortunately most of the problems are already acknowledge by the devs in the known issues list, so it's a matter of time before its resolved

I think the main thing is the game sometimes chugs way more VRAM than it ought to be

Earlier it was demanding 11GB of VRAM with all settings on low, ran like a slideshow

I have 10GB of VRAM on my RTX 3080 so I was capped out

Restarted the game, now it only wants 4GB on low instead, and runs better on the higher settings without capping me out on VRAM

Yeah uh, the game is a CPU killer for sure. The Series X version rarely stays above 50 FPS in Performance Mode when the settings drop everything to 720p and medium texture, and on that same mode on PS5 it barely stays above 40 💀

I hope they can optimize the game more in a future update but like, it would be a helluva accomplishment. You'll see why later, LMAO

Gonna have to wait til the PS6 and whatever jackass name the next Xbox is called for consoles to steadily run it at least 1080p 60 FPS, lol. Right now for pc you gonna need a beefy rig, for sure
