@dry copper I think it was you who was asking, but in Valheim you can now set your server so the base invasion progression or whatever is individual player based and not server based

Hmm, I happend to notice Mac GPU minimum (as far as Apple Silicon) for Everspace 2 is M2 Pro. I wonder how it would run on my M1 Max, which has more GPU cores at 15% less performance each. I guess if I grabbed it on Steam I would have free access to the Mac version to try it out of academic curiosity. Certainly will be more performant on my PC's 1080Ti.

I submitted a request for my data for Discord, intending to audit the file to see what discord is collecting from me

#

Because I have pretty conservative settings as far as privacy goes. I found that despite having game settings turned off for the app, they are still collecting games data.

#

There is no option that I can find to disable the games tab and by default it is toggled on.

#

So by default it captures every game you play with the program running, which becomes a part of the meta data...and that data is not encrypted if it looks like what I'm seeing. It's literally just text in a json file.

tranquil glen
#

US recover debt? Near future? HAH

#

I doubt itll be outta debt until say 2030

dry copper
#

It was probably a bad idea to forgive the debt to the US that nations in Africa had, but it was done with good intentions - knowing full well these countries could never repay the amount they owed

tranquil glen
#

How fast do you think US could pay off 34 Trillion when also shittin on our own economy

dry copper
#

I wonder who collects more debt today...America in foreign investments or the UK in taxation through the commonwealth

#

Imagine the United Kingdom becoming a state in the United States.

tranquil glen
#

I would reword that from China’s foreign investments or the US debt increasing

dry copper
#

That would give the United States all of the funding from the commonwealth

tranquil glen
#

for everyone’s information, the US Debt is so high, it would be as if every US citizen, owed 100k

#

Ok not even, its every person in America

dry copper
#

and yet they don't because a not insignificant percentage of that debt is based on investments built in the ether of a financial system that uses fractional monetization practices, kicking a giant can into the future that despite what fear mongering would like to say...can still be kicked further.

#

There will never be a day where that can has to be dealt with.

#

Thanks to a world bank that gives the United States the authority to fabricate money

#

The whole system was built with good intentions and abused for nearly a century thanks to world wars.

#

Even if they were called upon to pay off their debts or lose partners on the global market, they'd be in money for having lost the partners and the debt at the same time.

#

The change in political climate would renegotiate that debt in the future thanks to the worlds strongest military

I don't want to say might is right, but try forcing collection....See what happens.

I disagree. The USA has a lot of connections with countries that are regularly discovering rare earth materials ideal for manufacturing that do not suffer a fraction of the same losses the USA does and can afford to provide at a very reasonable rate for the US to restructure its entire manufacturing infrastructure to divorce it from overseas dependence.

dry copper
#

It has already begun at a social level with the "Made in America" movement

#

It's only a matter of time before the US starts making inhouse the brands that made it a powerhouse in the 50s and 60s

#

The barbs that keep the beurocratic red tape in place will be removed in time.

#

It's just keeping friendly while still growing that is hard with so many reasons to throw a punch

#

Were it up to me though, resource management would forbid foreign countries from owning any controlling stake in the sale or distribution of raw resources in a sovereign nation.

modern panther
#

I have no idea why

dry copper

He got your soul

modern panther
#

is it the hair? the alchemist thing?

dry copper
#

I just had an idea for a city builder

#

You're building the world around you. There is no scouting ahead to find resources. As you expand your tiny plot of land, opportunities to terraform present and they can change the world in dramatic ways. The sort of terraforming can result in very unique regions isolated inside of a city that could not exist in any other natural way. The downside is that these regions can compete themselves for their own growth or survival if they are threatened by your own people who decide independently of you whether they want to be a thorn or aid to this regions growth or destruction. You're forced as you grow to decide whether the city changes or the people change or both and in what ways.

#

The city is a living organism that has its own sentient structures

#

The city is not always a friend to itself, either and can actively attack other city regions like a virus

#

It is being Homeostasis

#

Some forms in the city can not exist without others. Some only exist after others have died.

There are countries for which sanctions don't and can't really work against

#

Also I'm not from the United States. I just don't like that so much of Canadas' natural resources are basically already sold to foreign countries that have set up shop in Canada with fancy names and waving Canadian flags like they're a part of the family while they sell the limited resources of the nation for dirt cheap to their own countries. Lookin at you Alberta (owned by the United States).

#

I believe that for the purpose of national security, in ensuring resources are not being weaponized in trade sanctions - A nation should have a lot more authority over the ownership and distribution of its own natural resources, regardless of what country decides to jump in and "invest" to divest it of them.

The native culture is not in any way similar and can not be protected from the largest threat to it....Itself. There are not a lot of natives born today that want to abide traditional native values.

shadow tartan
#

I was half kidding

#

But it does seem that way where I was

#

They care more about milk, cheese and beef

#

More pride in that than most things

#

I didn't like what I saw or heard man

#

Some of that was directed at me so I was given little choice

#

I did hear a lot of Canadians complain about property, agriculture and legislation in regard to the headdress stuff

dry copper
#

I don't know. People like to complain. Seems to be easier than solving problems.

shadow tartan
dry copper
#

Problem with complaints though: They breed only more complaints. I believe in solutions, not complaints.

shadow tartan
#

Totally

dry copper
#

Someone comes to me with a complaint, unless its my fault and I can do something about it, come to me with a solution suggestion too

shadow tartan
#

I just pull the jar of tears closer to them when they come speak to me

dry copper
#

I don't think it's too much to ask.

shadow tartan
#

You guys should have Alaska

#

That still bugs me

dry copper
#

There are so many issues with so many different things that even tackling the bigger issues seems insurmountable. They aren't insurmountable though. They're masked by the smaller issues being ignored in favor of big pictures

#

How to eat an elephant

shadow tartan
#

You have to chop it into smaller pieces to make it digestible like big problems?

dry copper
#

One bite at a time ....or grind it up into a slurry and drink it

shadow tartan
#

Nice refreshing Pachyderm Punch

dry copper
#

The idiom is meant to address the feeling of being overwhelmed by the big picture by taking the problem at face value and addressing it piece meal...something nobody seems interested in doing

#

...and I completely understand being disinterested in doing that

#

especially in this climate of everyone bitching about the big picture

shadow tartan
#

Brexit

dry copper
#

When you start to take on those challenges, people accuse you of any number of side line bullshit because you're not big picture enough

shadow tartan
#

Sometimes they're on the money and you can see people squandering time

dry copper
#

Like trying to tackle equality in the workplace and people wonder why development has dropped off a cliff. It's because problems were eliminated that cost production and fixing that takes time.

#

...and marketing does not care about equality. That's not as pretty on a poster when your launch is a year behind schedule

shadow tartan
#

What are we talking about now?

dry copper
#

Problem solving

shadow tartan
#

I've never expected marketing to care about that, they're just there to push USPs

#

And then create a campaign to make people feel like they're inclusive

#

Supermarkets are a great example

dry copper
#

I used to work in a supermarket. I enjoyed it...for the most part. There were definitely some time to quit days

shadow tartan
#

If stuff does slow down then you have to deal with it and highlight that in the post mortem

#

Not much you can do with fires except put them out sometimes

#

I was talking to another PM but he works in construction, similar issues when things are out of your control, affects target based bonuses etc

dry copper
#

I started working pushing carts into the store for 8 hours a day and cleaning floors and stocking shelves and that migrated to doing all of the signage for the stores weekly flyers and then to changing all of the prices in the stores registers to reflect changes in flyers....

shadow tartan
#

You'll have people breathing down your neck and moaning but you need strong leadership to stand in the way of that, if you don't have that everyone gets taken for a ride

#

It's all bollocks and politics at work

shadow tartan

@dry copper nah it was kinda what you mentioned, lot of pressure on a project which led me to be hired on another one and then get completely mismanaged and lied to

#

While I was in a totally different country

#

Isolation

#

And it was partly because I was becoming defined by my job

dry copper

Ugh. Coca Cola does that to people in countries they setup shop in overseas. It's scummy as fuck.

shadow tartan

dry copper

mental rose

Right, I actually watched a vid about "aggressive architecture" as it's called, and as a scandinavian I'm like "What the fuck are these people doing??"

shadow tartan
#

Last year

shadow tartan
dry copper
#

Aggressive architecture...is that like those people who build houses in a few months by hyper designing them to be small and functional?

shadow tartan
#

Spikes and purposefully built benches that can't be slept on

#

Because people are pieces of shit

dry copper
#

eww that's in toronto

shadow tartan

And you can't expect them to care

#

Ewww Toronto

mental rose
#

The vid in question that I watched talked about LA specifically

shadow tartan
#

LA is a shithole

#

And I come from London

dry copper
#

I saw this one couple on youtube come to Canada from Ukraine, they built a house for her parents in Canada in like six months. Tiny house..super functional. They wanted to get a startup goin building tiny senior homes....I think it's a horrible idea. Seniors in tinder boxes is a horrible idea. The houses were barely the size of four outhouses strapped back to back and they had 2 storeys on a shit foundation

shadow tartan
#

You and I both won't put our parents into care

dry copper
#

I'd rather them in apartment buildings.

shadow tartan
#

Yeah that's expensive though man

#

I'll never allow my parents to be in a home

#

But they'd both hate to be in a home with other old people

dry copper
#

Something tells me the cost can be made up for in votes.

shadow tartan
#

Ooooooo

#

Even we will be long before that happens

dry copper
#

Every election cycle the voters come out in droves. The news media goes out onto the street and asks passers by who they'd vote for and they run polls...I have to laugh at the largest voting demographic under-represented in those polls

#

Seniors

#

The number of times I've gone to a voting place and saw it packed with seniors....

#

Pretty much every time

All the way through winter

dry copper
#

Most of my neighbors are old ladies. I won't help one though on the other side. she's a drunk who smokes like a chimney and is always buggin me to use my phone to get her meds delivered and oversharing details of her life I don't care about. I didn't even want to know her name but alas, she had to tell me that, too

#

She has a dog that yaps constantly and has parties at all hours of the night.

shadow tartan
#

Ahahahahaha

dry copper

I'm just glad I got new windows that kill the sounds from outside

shadow tartan
#

You're ingrained mate

#

I've had a cat or fox howling all night every night for the past week

#

I need to go out and find out where it's coming from

dry copper
#

What pissed me off and set our paths apart from the start. I first met the neighbor she accused me of having a yappy dog, trying to project I suppose because my dog is not yappy and is never alone...and the animal control people actually came and parked infront of her house listening because people complained about her yappy mut

#

I didn't complain but it irked me she lied to my face

#

I can stomach a lot of shit, but I'm a full asshole to liars.

#

I'm an all ass hole shit on your life kind of person to liars.

#

I don't really commune with the ladies around me regardless. They're all gossips. I just live and let live...and shovel snow and occassionally find letters in my mailbox wishing me happy holidays from them

#

Quid pro quo is overrated.

#

Do it for the feeling that you're doing good in a world full of shit

shadow tartan
#

They become an instant target for me

#

Most of my neighbours are cool

#

Couple of dickheads have moved in recently and tried to tell me how shit works

#

Worked out rather badly

I guess I'm just educating people about FAAFO where I live

@native sparrow Few more tips before I go to sleep... I remember having the laser rifles on both shoulders a reliable way to deal damage when the shield is down. (so long as you can equip them)
Then the laser sword with the charge-up spin move does a fair bit of stun.
Lastly, the FCS that tracks well from med-to-long range is decent

I look away for one second a child fucking explodes on the stairs

dry copper
#

Sounds like dwarven children need an upgrade

reef mountain
#

also for some context, the child went berserk and started attacking everyone. However, the game treats all berserk dwarves as well... enemies, and even tags them differently, which causes your dwarves to attack them even if they're children.

#

I would like to see that changed lol

#

I really need to just disable children in the settings menu

dry copper
#

Agreed.

#

Disable children

#

Use baseball bats

reef mountain
#

it's not easy to turn them off though; I can prevent babies from being born (and therefore no children that way) but I can't prevent them from showing up in migrant waves

#

so I'd have to expel every child that shows up in a migrant wave by expelling their parent which could cause problems

obtuse reef
#

the child not only exploded on the stairs, they lost all their clothes while they were at it

#

I believe that was a failed attempt to achieve warp speed. That child was too smart for their own good

reef mountain
#

I double checked the scene and their blood is on floor 27 but their body is on floor -2

obtuse reef
#

yup, that sounds like a failed attempt to reach FTL speeds

#

silly child, they should've known to only do it while wearing socks that fit

reef mountain
#

I wasn't even aware dwarves could fall down the stairs; I knew they could take fall damage but I've never had someone fall down the stairs

#

I've only ever had people fall off cliffs or whatever

#

I've had entire sieges happen on stairs and nobody fell down, so I have no idea what's so special about this child

obtuse reef
#

what I find funny is their body parts managed to tumble down a staircase that probably doesnt go straight down for a total of 29 floors

reef mountain
#

it does go straight down lol

#

it's on my equivalent of a terraria hellevator

dry copper
#

What I find funny is topical jokes about controversial subjects that subvert expectations to humorous ends.

obtuse reef
#

it's hard to describe what I'm talking about

reef mountain
#

but my point is that this is the first time I've had someone fall down the stairs in over 700 hours of gameplay

#

and not only that, they fell so hard they exploded

#

it was like a tumble; it was like a straight dive down

obtuse reef
#

I'm telling you, the child managed to figure out how to get themselves to warp

reef mountain
#

sounds about right for dwarven children lol

#

I did find their arm around floor 20

obtuse reef
#

they were browsing the library while on an exciting combination of alcohol and goofy mushrooms

reef mountain
#

nah they kicked a merchant; ironically, my last absurd death involving a dwarven child also involved a merchant

obtuse reef
#

oh, did they get yeeted down the stairs by the merchant?

reef mountain
#

but the fact that they fell so hard and so many floors makes me think that the merchant threw them, which some of the other combat logs imply

obtuse reef
#

so the merchant threw the child so hard, they went a significant fraction of the speed of light. yup sounds about right

reef mountain
#

I think so; there were like 10 people involved in this fight but most of them were just watching

#

but it still spammed my combat logs and made it hard to find who actually hit who

obtuse reef
#

this merchant has the ability to obliterate entire continents if they threw something hard enough

#

you should kill that merchant, they're a threat to the rest of the world

reef mountain
#

nah I'll draft them into the military lol

#

and make them raid my enemies

#

but the whole thing was kind of buggy; every mention of throwing the child wasn't the last thing that happened, i.e, they threw them and then hit them later

#

so I really have no idea what actually happened

obtuse reef
#

remember: if you throw something hard enough, eventually physical objects won't matter

#

DF combat logs are never going to not be funny

reef mountain
#

lol

#

on a slightly unrelated note, I caught a blood man inside a lead cage trap

dry copper

reef mountain
#

it's rather ironic

obtuse reef
#

I remember one of my most successful colonies was ruined by a werelizard outbreak

#

my military actually did a really good job at containing it, but each time they got into a fight they got infected

reef mountain
#

have you seen some of the other sprites? they're hilarious

reef mountain
obtuse reef
#

and because I haven't figured out the medical system, I couldn't identify the infected until they turned

reef mountain
#

it's not easy to spot them even with a good hospital set up; you have to read through every combat log

#

I usually just try to avoid fights with them altogether and get stuck in cage traps

#

then atom smash the cage

#

they surprisingly don't have the TRAP_AVOID tag so they can 100% get caught in traps

obtuse reef
#

My current save is right on a volcano

#

makes metal working easy

reef mountain
#

so funny thing; mine is actually on a vault lol; I used DFHack to find the vault and embark on it; it's hella buggy but really fun

#

I won't post any screenshots though as it's kind of spoilers for the upcoming adventure mode

#

it was never intended to be embarked on so it's really buggy when you do but also makes for a really interesting setup

obtuse reef
#

I'm excited for adventure mode

reef mountain
#

there's a few other hidden stuff you can embark on if you know where it is. Also with vaults and other hidden stuff, you don't actually need to use DFHack to embark on them, it just makes it a lot easier.

#

but it's possible to embark on them in vanilla 100%

Yes I did so that youtubers could earn ad revenue. I didn't expect youtubers to double dip on ads with sponsorship inline placed advertisements followed by youtube placed ads. Watching his channel is now literally watching a commercial and being rewarded with more commercials.

The whole point of inline ads is to better control ads for content creators interested in speaking more to their own target demographic, so that youtube doesn't get to sell their audience on things that they may not believe appropriate to their brand

If a youtuber gets demonetized youtube will increase the amount of ads on a video

#

I think back in 2021 they said that ad revenue from demonetized videos goes to them

obtuse reef
#

Also the Youtuber has to have ads

modern panther
#

So if a youtubers like TheRussianBadger who get demonetized a lot have to take sponsors while youtube basically takes their income

obtuse reef
#

Yeah, YouTube’s a bit of a really shitty company

#

The problem isn’t entirely solvable. YouTube has existed for several years and there’s literally no alternative

#

Because of that they pretty much have a monopoly on video sharing

#

Which isn’t technically supposed to be happening

austere lance
long beacon
#

Yes.🗿

Wildlands

dry copper
#

Fisher is in Wildlands?

long beacon
#

Yeee

#

Unfortunately they took my predator mission out ran out of time for ip

dry copper
#

I don't think they'll ever make another good Splinter Cell.

long beacon
#

Prob not, all is good chaos theory is still available for purchase online lol

#

A GameCube was my first official console, first game was tmnt then a 4 demo game with sonic, splinter cell, some off brand flash and a racer lol

#

Can’t forget Turok evolution

dry copper
#

I wonder if it fucks with youtube ad metrics doing what I'm doing to ads.

#

Ads I don't want to see or that don't have a 5 second skip timer, I reset immediately

long beacon
#

I always close app if I can’t skip

dry copper
#

I spend 1 second skipping a 5 second ad by refreshing.

#

If they insist on every ad being unskippable I just don't watch the video

#

Three refreshes and then leave the video

long beacon
#

You can eventually skip those too by refreshing video 15 times lol

dry copper
#

I'm gunna keep doing it. Youtube algorithms are probably stupid enough that doing this actually hurts their bottom line.

#

Advertisers that spend more for unskippable ads lose money for people skipping videos entirely

#

Less exposure for more money

long beacon
#

I remember back when YouTube let you play videos without app fully open for free back in day

#

Or closed

#

Could listen to music with screen off and stuff

jade crater
#

I'm making a skeleton for my game

dry copper
#

Very tiny

jade crater
#

oh wait

#

that's the og pixel art

jade crater
#

screenshot

dry copper
#

What is the background if that's a screenshot?

jade crater
#

idk just to contrast the white fro the bg

#

it's just concept art

#

idk if it's good :/

dry copper
#

Anything can be good in the right context....Like...A burger

#

BORGER!

jade crater
#

borger

jade crater
#

moist

dry copper
#

ngl, he made that pool look fun. I wanted a pool for like..a minute

jade crater
#

i don't like swimming ._.

dry copper
#

In the dior ad I was just like...wtf, why are you swimming with jelly fish

#

That shit stings

#

What kinda hobo pool is she playing in

#

Where did this rando come from she is kissin under the water

#

I don't even understand what that dior commercial is trying to say their fragrance is....

#

"Smells like an abandoned pool with strangers in it full of saltwater creatures"

#

Or a gym locker full of unwashed dudes

#

I love the abstract nature of art

jade crater
#

._.

dry copper
#

That is a sick drum set

jade crater
#

new skelly boi

#

more detail :)

dry copper
#

Don't focus so much on detail. When you're playing with pixel art, less is more

jade crater
#

but the other one looked a bit empty (as in there's no bones)

dry copper
#

I disagree. It looked like it had a character.

#

It was neither good nor bad...It was just a skeleton

#

This one has red eyes and tells me it's angry

jade crater
#

the other one has stick legs tho...

jade crater
#

it's an enemy

dry copper
#

Oh. I was thinking a platform version of Undertale

#

Where enemies weren't obvious

jade crater
#

it's a dungeon game

#

expect bugs :/

dry copper
#

lol...Welcome to MIT
Expect bugs

jade crater
#

mit?

dry copper
jade crater
#

oh right

#

what's with that?

dry copper
#

You don't know what MIT is?

jade crater
#

no...

dry copper
#

It's a world renown university

jade crater
#

massechussetts insitute of technology?

dry copper
#

yes.

jade crater
#

oh

#

ok

dry copper
#

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

jade crater
#

autocorrect :/

dry copper
#

Gotta love when auto correct makes you wrong 😛

jade crater
#

yup

#

only works at the wrong times

#

sometimes though, im so wrong it doesnt even know what to do ._.

dry copper
#

Is scratch a school thing or just extra curricular?

#

reading now from MIT news...

dry copper
#

never heard of it. My nephew might dig this

jade crater
#

is he into programming?

dry copper
#

He's into a lot.

#

Kids always making something

jade crater
#

It's really good for learning how to code, or if you just don't have unity

#

i dont have the ram or space for unity

dry copper
#

Using one of those crappy computers that were being granted to kids during covid? 😛

#

Fricken hate chromebooks

jade crater
#

same

#

they stink at everything they advertize

#

I use a mac

dry copper
#

One of my nephews had a chromebook from school for the covid stint. The school was able to access the computer remotely off hours. That is not okay in my book.

jade crater
#

nope

#

mine was ok, but then it crashed on startup all the time

#

and has terrible specs, barely enough for python

dry copper
#

We played project zomboid together. Was the only real highlight of my whole covid experience.

#

Gaming with family

jade crater
#

yeah

#

being an introvert really helps too 😛

#

it was like a break rather than hell

dry copper
#

about the skeleton. I can't tell you what's good. Nobody can. Everything is good to someone. If it's good to you, it's good. In gaming, if you nail the gameplay, the box it came in will be good.

#

Thing about gamers...their minds wrap around ideas.

jade crater
#

I put them both into the game and the first one was better

#

might change the coloring tho

dry copper
#

Don't eat yourself trying to find good in the small things. You'll make the project super long and spend it doubting yourself.

#

Only take a bite when its cooked.

jade crater
#

there's just one problem

#

I put shading on everything, but you can't lighten white...

dry copper
#

Then don't make it white. Bones aren't white

jade crater
#

that is true

#

how's this?

dry copper
#

skeleton

#

skeletony

jade crater
#

the shaded part is a bit light...

dry copper
#

Skele-Tony

jade crater
#

a bit darker dark parts

#

might use the hands in animations

#

i think ive just opened a whole new can of worms

#

now i need to animate legs

#

and the head

#

😫

dry copper
#

That's a whole other program heh

jade crater
#

not really

#

just a lot of animations

#

I'll use the same AI as the purple slime (which I just made and I love it) and tweak it a little

dry copper
#

You may be able to create your very own workflow with magicavoxel if you're making everything pixelated.

#

The 3D software I believe has animation in it.

jade crater
#

the way it works in scratch is that you have costumes and can switch between them

#

so I have to make a bunch of individual frames and code them to switch

dry copper
#

Ah.

#

Are you going to switch entire sets with layers or switch by pixel or what?

jade crater
#

open the game code and go to the slime sprite and navigate to the 'costumes' tab

#

youll see what I mean
