They used a trick for the making of mouse that was used in early Build game development on games like Doom and Duke Nukem. Back then, sprites (avatars) were 2D, so the sprites always faced the player camera and were animated specifically in orientation to that camera. There were no 3D models...only 2D sprites. The world being 3D, the games were considered 2.5D...It was a real clusterfuck of crazy
The cartoon characters in Mouse are all 2D sprites animated specifically in reference to the camera so they keep their cartoon 2D appearance but can behave like 3D characters in the 3D environment

What hurts me the most is that VRGOTY isn't even a VR game. Sure, it has VR support, but from what I can see it doesn't even run all that well in VR. Cyberpunk was so bad on launch it was crashing top of the line computers and still had 2D sprites in place of 3D cars.
The LODs were garbage. the performance trash, the gameplay buggy and the story was finished way too soon ontop of them promising things in the development phase that even to this day I'm not sure are in the game.

Combat wise it shows promise, but the level of invasive shit injected into the game makes it a pain to tolerate
Everything from constant breakups with freezing the screen, of combat to feed you narrative dialogue from a loosely stitched together poorly designed plot to the game literally recording your screen and connecting your stats to a leaderboard without even mentioning that they are farming your data.

Just finished my first play session of Exanima....incredible combat. The physics based combat while hilariously cartoonishly horrible to control is actually quite fun and feels engaging. It's like playing QWERTY with a sword

My biggest gripe was Banderas' bad over-acting that lead me to question the very reality he purported to being in. In one scene he finds a chocolate bar after presumably being starving and he cries happily as he eats it. That would be all good and well if it hadn't only been literally hours since his last meal which was a full dinner with his wife the night prior celebrating at their crappy apartment.

Breakpoint is not horrible. Don't expect a very grateful playbase if you go into the MP stuff...I never met a single player that wasn't in a rush to do something and leave. The single player experience is nice, though mostly for the environment. A lot of diversity in environments.
