The whole braindance experience is very on the rails storyboard

The story though really makes the concept look like a cool minigame of detective like work that they ultimately never release the chains on

White diamonds over doors on your mini-map means they're side dungeons and unnecessary, a gold orb with an exclamation point over a door on the map means it's your story objective. Just walk around til you find that

But side dungeons are worth it for side bosses (which give you mods for your guns) and lots of random items like rings and amulets
