Honestly, requiring SSD and 16GB RAM really isn't asking for much these days. There's no way someone is going to still be running games and OS on spinning metal these days and even budget PCs are going to go to 16GB

4x2 kits are basically non-existent now and you're leaving an enormous amount of performance on the table if you're not running dual channel

Even like $500 builds (including cost of a monitor, keyboard, etc9) will have at least a SATA SSD and 8x2 RAM. Probably an M.2 drive though, since SATA ain't any cheaper

With the newer generation of AMD chips though, if your not going for raytracing its just not cost effective to go nvidia. Especially when I can get a new 6700xt for 239 bucks

Then RAM slot broke and upgraded to i5-11400 with Gigabyte H510M-H.

TBH, not that much of an upgrade...still low-end, but...much better than the i3-7100.

Cores don't matter for 3 reasons: Lack of dGPU means the iGPU has to do all the work, adding to CPU load and heat.

Two: Not enough RAM, so cores are either idle or busy processing existing data slowly.

Three: Shitty paste from factory (thanks, Intel) burnt out, means I'm limited to stock clocks when gaming or under load rather than Turbo Mode.

(For the record, stock = 2.6 GHz, Turbo = 4.4)

Oh...not even the best part...

One of the stock cooler's locking pin broke...was a time when I was limited to 2 GHz flat.

Anything more = 100 Celsius.

1.8, actually, but could push a bit to 2.

Managed to find an older fan that fit the thing and used it, so back to stock clocks, but...yea...

And this is why, I'll never spend money on a PC.
