It's interesting...I think the game wanted to force me to use the darkside powers.
Initially I was able to down an entire squadron without them and then at the end of that campaign after I found Merrin, a bunch of droid bosses showed up and were like....Try not using the darkside now, mofo
I was tempted to not use them but I knew what would happen didn't matter afterwards anyway
So I conceded and used them rather than waste my time and effort on a fixed fight

I say stunned but the reality is, the enemies stun if you do a certain amount of damage, like they enter another stage of their life

It's a detective game with 2D platforming and melee combat, but it also plays fast and lose with dimensional space....So you can for example, press a button (like UP) while walking along a platform and the entire environment rotates 90 degrees counter clockwise to your character.
This change in the environment does not go unnoticed by the NPC around you though as they themselves only function "properly" when they are on your perspective view point...So they become a part of the game through interacting with your choices both in how you play and which perspective you use.
Enemies for example will actively go around you to keep up with you rotating the entire environment and get winded and or annoyed with your rotating shit
