I think I've figured out my main problem with Valheim; The devs have an absolutely fucked take on difficulty progression as you make your way through the game

You start in the meadows, which are pretty easy to explore and the safest biome in the game. Then after you've wandered around a bit you'll find the Black Forest, which has harder enemies but they're manageable if you're careful. The Black Forest is where you find copper and tin deposits, so you can start making bronze stuff and get stronger. After a few days of prepping and whatnot you'll be able to craft a ship and finally leave your island to go find others. All of this sounds fine, right? But after you finally sail away you're stuck in a neverending clusterfuck of hopping from island to island for hours trying to find somewhere that doesn't have insta-kill enemies, because the world is randomly generated and for some reason there's zero things stopping you from landing in an end game area you know nothing about and getting obliterated in 0.2 seconds. Then when you finally find the biome that you're actually supposed to go to after the Black Forest (the Swamp) the difficulty spike is insane and you'll probably die within two minutes of touching ground

Like, my friends and I had the highest tier bronze gear you can make and had conquered the Black Forest, even killed the boss living in it, so we thought we were ready to find the next biome. but i mean, no need to tank a railgun shot if you never get hit

personally i build to what the strengths of the plane are, like i know the f-18 has great speed recovery, a decent high g turn and good base acceleration

so i set my parts up to play to those aspects

all the Sukhoi planes have great special weapons and amazing maneuverability\

and they are special in that theyre a lot more snappy than other plane types so if you learn post stall maneuvers you can just outfly everything else

depends on the plane, for the su-33, you have the HVAA, which in the right setup are absolutely devastating weapons, you build the plane out for tracking, lock range and flight duration with those things, then set it up with a stealth coating, you can just sit at the back of the map and just snipe at people, i have friends who can end a game in less than 2 minutes using HVAA builds

for the su-35 you have LAAM and 6AAM's

both can be good but 6AAM's are better imo

My favorite plane to fly is the Top Gun F-14A, I'm a sucker for the variable sweep wings

not only can you snipe and get an easy 6 piece with em setup for damage and tracking

With its improved stats over the regular model I like to pretend it's the Super Tomcat 21 that never got built

but also in close quarters, with a lock speed and tracking setup you can use em as an emergency weapon

if youre in a close turnfight with an enemy you can lock and fire at them in extreme close quarters, after turning towards em or after a post stall maneuver and you can just 1 hit ko em before they even have a chance to react

something weird happens with em in close quarters where they have heavily increased tracking after coming off the rail, if you learn the timing it can be devastating

f-35 i dont use much but iirc it also has 6AAM's

i use f-35 pretty much exclusively as a normal missile build

i run 6aam's with it but i dont dump perks into them

the strengths of the f-35 are that it has a great high g turn and decent low speed maneuverability

good in dogfights

theyre not really anything special compared to other special weapons but they just have great tracking, great damage, and i just love how fast they reload

i know how to do it, i cant fly backwards like the youtubers who can do it for like 5 minutes at a time

but i can fly backwards like a minute at a time

and i also know how to use it in multiplayer to my advantage

everyone online will tell you that you have to do a psm, wait till your camera starts to move then psm again

and you just keep doing that over and over, making sure you only flick the stick a little

but that never worked for me

ive got it down to muscle memory now, and i just kinda spam it

but when i was starting i watched my speed

when you are psming your speed drops, when it starts to go up again is when i would chain the next one

not when my camera moved

but the goal is to keep your speed below 500 so you can just keep chaining post stall maneuvers

its different with the higher tier fighters that can do full flips though

they will reverse their direction in a psm

so you kinda gotta control the throttle for higher tier fighters so they dont reverse direction

for things like the f-18, f-14 tga, mig-35, mig-29

the ones that can only do half post stall maneuvers, you can just chain psm's without worrying about throttle control

same goes for the f-35

get your speed below 500, then let go of the break and tap and hold it for a sec while pitching

you dont have to let go of the throttle, but if your speed goes above 500 you wont do it

as for using backwards flying in multiplayer, you use it like you would use drifting on no mans sky if you have that ship upgrade, you use it to get some distance between you and your opponent so you can turn towards them if theyre out turning you

oh, and the f-15e, one of the ones i was fighting in this video, that is the tightest turning plane in the game, in case you were wondering what it was, it also has 6aam's so you can do the close quarters shot trick i mentioned earlier

but, theres ways to fight back against psm players in a non psm fighter, psm's make you slow, which makes you vulnerable if you dont do it at the right time, someone using a high energy strategy can take advantage of their fighters acceleration to defeat you when youre slow

i adjust my playstyle depending on the situation and the amount of players there are

if theres a lot of people, or the enemy has a more maneuverable fighter than me i stick to high energy, with well time backwards flying if ive got a plane like the f-18 that can do it

if its a 1v1 and were on equal footing i spam them

talking about it makes me wanna go play, but at the same time i dont wanna set my xbox one up really, id have to find the space for it, set it up find a place to put my keyboard

wish i could just download it on the xbox app for pc, launch it and plug a controller in, whats the difference even really windows 10 has their universal applications thing now

the f-15s mtd is a sleeper on ace 7

its the best HPAA carrying plane in my opinion

because its really slippery in the turns, really hard for people to hit with missiles, has good high speed maneuverability and fast acceleration

in big games you can look for slow targets and take pot shots while moving fast, pretty much a free one hit kill

and in a dogfight you can get people moving chasing you and moving slower and slower

reel em in and then take that hpaa shot

the other planes can be effective, but it feels like the f-15s was made to carry that specific weapon

shame, vr missions have an incredible soundtrack that calls back to some songs in ace 4

you also get to play as mobius 1 in arcade mode on ace 5

mobius 1 is the only recurring character in ace combat

i havent gotten to try any vr games, i wish though, like i can only imagine how flying a fighter jet in vr feels

must be like one of the most epic experiences you can have as a gamer

I have an Oculus and was able to do some Project Wingman in VR back before I had motion sickness problems

id like really badly to try the ace combat vr missions, the first one has you taking off from a carrier, it looks nutty

if i ever get a vr headset ill probably try VTOL vr or Tiny combat arena first
