I wonder how informed a game is on the culture of its target demographic these days. It seems that classics tomorrow feed from some nuanced impression of the culture today...Like time capsules in game format
Then in the future people can dress up as their favorite character and its less about the character than it is the memories they had when that character was top of the line
Though in the moment of reflection, they can appreciate a knowing that could not be felt as the character was new.
One can then arguably extrapolate from a games content what the cultural demographic was it was aimed at during its primary launch and identify if A) The recipe for a classic can be replicated and B) It was ahead of its time
Or C) It was Elon Musk buying Twitter

I like listening to the streamer Sweet Anita on occasion for her often indepth expose on the many nuances of life from the perspective of someone who lives a very different challenge and who does not apologize for her condition or let it define her life experiences.

The smaller plane was making the turn fine for about 2/3rds of it and then just stopped veering off like it couldn't pull up enough to steer away from the collision

thing is though, pvp has never been the core of mmorpgs and i feel like it would be hard for any of those dozens of better PVP games to add a story that is equivalent to the standard mmo, offering an 80 hour campaign, many different areas and enemy types, and the way i wear my heart on my sleeve even though it keeps falling into gutters and trash.

I'd agree that for the most part MMO do not support skill based PVP but that's a check against AoC, not in favor of it. There is enough competition that for PVP, AoC won't float. For those that like MMORPG, it's not the PVP that keeps them paying their subscription.
AoC currently is structured to ask for a subscription in a MMORPG that's PVP always on.
