I love it. Having to worry not only about hunger and thirst, but nutrition. Morale makes a big difference. Everything is destructible and gives realistic materials. Breaking a window gives a bit of broken glass, a couple boards and a sheet while dismantling a dresser gives lots of boards and nails for example

Some some things can't be moved but I think the auto doc can. I'm not at my computer to check, but I think its capital G to grab the object and then it like tethers to your sprite until you press it again to let go. You need to be strong enough to move it and if it's exceptionally heavy you will tire yourself trying to move it

Hi everyone! Has anyone here made a comparison, or I'm sure other people have asked here about this: comparing NMS with other space games.... Like Elite:Dangerous, Astroneer, or Empyrion?

Elaborate on comparison. In short, yes...People have.

If you're asking for a specific comparison, gonna need to be more specific then that

Elite Dangerous is a slog from the get go and for me, it only ever served to remind me how lonely space is. Controls are fantastic, overly complicated and a convoluted mess. The community was literally the only good thing about the game at the end of the day. Everything felt half finished. Mind you, I'm talking Odyssey.

Astroneer has no real space flight elements to it unless you count the sections where you're auto transported to other play areas to do planet survival stuff. It's cute, buggy as hell and an overall enjoyment for busy bodies that don't mind the occasional jank.

Empyrion was an addiction of mine for weeks and I even formed my own faction, but I got tired of it. It really is only as good as the community you find yourself with - because once you're done surviving, thriving is just a chore. The way the game has designed its power and maintenance systems operate on servers around real time gates make crafting the most basic things using its factory system a pain.

NMS unlike all three games mentioned above has a truly pop-in pop-out multiplayer system that lets you play how you like, solo or not...and if you want to make friends and join a galactic community...You can do that.

The Galactic Hub has been ongoing for years and is thriving

The reason I'm asking about this is that, the base building part in NMS (which is one of its main core elements/selling points I think) is one of the things I enjoy the least about it.

What do I like? Making money, buying great looking ships and making them powerful, and SPACE COMBAT. But, as far as I've seen, these elements are not as fleshed out in NMS (I could be wrong though), so I'm probably looking to see similar games that focus on this... Or, if I can get opinions on people that do these things in NMS, and how they keep it fresh/interesting

Empyrion's big update made the game look much prettier this year than ever before. If you're into building ships, with the way the game runs be it solo, or on one of the numerous community servers - Its ship building system is engaging, but the learning curve for getting into the game is annoyingly complex.

Good for when you want to clean up your settlement because the game doesn't normally let you delete things like rubble

It includes all assets that are added to the game world like roads, rocks, etc

I grew up on the ones on Playstation 1 without all the online interactivity, no microtransactions etc

I drive, get to the free-way...even the GTR-1 will take time to drive the whole periphery, so...I get there, turn around and stand right in the lane I know they're going to use.

Being AI, they don't change directions or move...crashing into me at 200 MPH.

Practically instant wreck.

It took 10+ minutes to wreck all 3...then 3 laps in the bus...30 minutes total.

that being said one of my all-time favorite games is Burnout Paradise

but the sense of speed in Paradise was just nuts

But Most Wanted 2012 was said by people to be literally Burnout with licensed cars...take-downs, crash cameras and what-not...

So I'd say not my thing.

Especially those crash cameras.

they had the audacity to put DLC cars in-game

the way you unlocked driveable cars was to literally drive up to them

and there were paid DLC cars littered across the map

Paradise was their first and only take on making an 'open world' Burnout game, and unfortunately the last in the series. (no I'm not counting the bs mobile game that was made years later lol)

Takedown and Revenge had the point a-to-b races with crashing other cars as a reward (the reward was getting boost to go faster)

and also crash junctions

in a sense it was

but the actual races had the chaos factor where traffic was random

Takedown was more dangerous when dealing with traffic.

Any slight collision and you were sent flying

Revenge tuned it into something where you'd send traffic flying if you were going the same direction

so you could like, smash a passing van into the car you're trying to pass ahead and cause it to crash.

Hmm...they seem to have used similar mechanics in HP 2010.

No free-roam, point-to-point...but random traffic, random crashes/take-downs.

Except taking down racers didn't refill N2O, only cops.

I'll admit my favorite mode will always be Takedown

just smash as many other racers as you can before your own car gets too smashed

or the timer runs out

Paradise kinda took the danger out of this by allowing the player to hit up a drive-through repair station during any game mode

so if your car was one hit away from death you could weasel your way into full health if you could dodge the other cars enough and make it to a repair station

Speaking of which, former devs of Criterion got together and formed Three Fields Entertainment, they released some games called DANGER ZONE and DANGEROUS DRIVING which evoke Burnout-like vibes but because they don't have the same resources and staff they used to have when they were under EA's wing, the games come off as fan projects and/or 'mobile games'

They recently announced a new game called Wreckreaction which looks like the stunt races from GTA Online..

like don't get me wrong, Dangerous Driving may 'look' pretty but the cars don't look like they are driving on the road at all. Looks more like they are floating or the road itself is moving

But watching the earlier Paradise video and now this...not a fan of Criterion.
