Mine won't be too bad. I use LUA, so I just wait around until the compiler is finished, then I run my LUAs through AMUMSS. I probably spend more time updating the pages on NexusMods than I do updating the mods ๐
@vale iron Becasue of using LUA - does running it through AMUMSS basically tell you what does and doesn't work anymore? like depreciated stuff?
The LUA is a set of instructions for what to change. AMUMSS grabs the MBINs and makes those changes, outputting the PAK file. So as long as the instructions don't need to change, it will always work as long as the compiler works

Ah so many modders who use LUA need to wait for the compiler? I thought the game came with a built-in mod abilities. I remember that WOW had native LUA support
Anyone using LUA and AMUMSS has to wait for the compiler. Otherwise you have to hex-edit the MBINs
There are strong hints that they will likely add mod support, but there's nothing native currently

You can compare the list of changed files against the files used in different mods, if that is easier for you
Basically, if it uses globals, it probably doesn't work. If it doesn't use globals, a decent chance that it works

Not that it matters anymore since it's officially in the game, but may as well mention that one of my old experiments was adding bursts of fire to scorched planets way back in Atlas Rises.
Had it working to a point, but I couldn't get the sounds where I wanted them to not be overly annoying yet also give you fair warning of impending fire.
It was part of a larger revision to planetside hazards, many of which are now just official as of Origins. Glad to see some folks at HG were thinking in the same vein.

I've always had bad texture streaming when tessellation was enabled. Been using FineLOD mod on PC to fix it, but it'll be a while before that's compatible with Origins.

Do you even need a mod for that? In steam, you can remap all the controls. I'm sure there's a roll left and roll right, along with pitch and yaw

It can just get weird if you use different terrain mods because you and whoever you are playing with will each see your own modded planet

Okay, looked at the sky colors. There are new colors for the "lava" biome, and for the "swamp" biome. All other colors are not new. The "generic" section has many colors, but like before, most of those are old depreciated colors. Nothing new except the new "lava" and "swamp" colors....and the fact that they have biome sections now.

Dude, I don't know. I will have to go through a lot of files and try to figure out the new mechanisms they are using to pick things. This is going to take a while. It seems like they might be thinking they are near the end of development and are setting things up to be modded better. I'm also seeing some evidence that there might be some form of internal mod support comming.

tbh I haven't felt the need to use your mod anymore except for frozen biomes which are still stuck at blue snow/skies

There are also a lot of new filters on the planets, that change sky color, so it feels more than 6
A lot of the filters are simple colour balance effects which is nice

The DISABLEMODS.txt file typically restores itself after every update so you should check to see if it's there

Something to keep in mind as well is that it would be good to keep that disable mods file in there but just rename it to something else when you want to play modded. Then when you want to go back to vanilla you can just change its name back

@gusty fulcrum @steel crypt I haven't done a thorough look, but a quick check of several of the old biomes mainly shows tweaks to the RockLight palettes. They appear to have added 16 new colors to the bottom (completely unorganized). If it still works like before, those would appear more rarely. Some biomes also changed their original 8 RockLight colors, tinting them all toward the same color. That would actually reduce the apparent variety, but that seems to contradict some of my in-game observations though, so it needs better investigation. Also many of the new subbiomes have their own separate palette files, but I haven't looked at them yet.
@smoky wing could it be that the game mixes colours differently now? I'm yet to find many similarly coloured planets
Dunno. Like I said, many of the new biome variants use separate texture palettes so that'll take longer before you start seeing duplicates. Also Origins goes heavy on a bunch of new planetary color filters which can completely change the final coloring.

but mods that only change Camera, Visuals, Filters, shaders, etc. wont affect the save at all.

You can mod the hyperdrive range as high as you want, but you still have to move in the galaxy map to pick your target planet, which can take forever
Unless you could mod the movement speed on the galactic map

I remember on my system at home I bagged an extra 30fps or so with it, with my friendโs PC getting around 60 more. Results will vary drastically depending on your hardware. Itโs actually a fixed updated version of the now discontinued No Manโs Sky Performance Fix mod with a few extra tweaks and modifications I threw in. The latest version of that mod is outdated and broken, I fixed and updated it for Beyond.

Yep! Not a very noticeable hit to visuals, and has proved really effective on laptops! Will do my best to update it when in home.

The save editor hasn't been updated. I've used it quite a bit since the update without problems (both the GUI and JSON), but know that you risk screwing up your save file if you use it now. Just make sure you keep a good backup.
And if you're editing JSON, make sure you save twice, once when you leave the folder in the JSON and once on the main save tab.

Yeah looks like test mode allows resizing beyond normal bounds. I previously did it with the JSON and not sure how well test mode works.
Last I recalled there was some weird shit with how item slots were references/called/exist where like, you just couldn't expand beyond a certain point because other things weren't set up to support/use it...
But that was like 50 patches again and my recollection is fuzzy

yeah its the only hazard protection module that is not specialized, which is pretty interesting in terms of gameplay

even that bit of percents adds a couple solid minutes for most biomes, I'm using two of them right now with fairly high rolls

Some people like me are interested in save editing qs because we earned it to begin with and started a new save with the update. Also some people start over because an update broke a save.
Saying github isn't legit - Lol what. It is as legit as any site on the net. You can get an infection from anywhere that serves up files. Its up to the repository owner to make sure they are abiding by the ToS and the end user to check as a just in case

hi all i have an issue ... so im very affected by the shaking when mining... and i found a mod that removes the shake however it f's up my view when in ship .. to be under the ship and loose like holding ALT key.. and cant fly with it ... any that can help with a mod that takes of the shake and dosent fiddle with the view?

Alright, I got no clear answer in the help channel, so I'll ask here. I can't get out of the starfield on load, it just goes "mod incompabilities detected" and it was working fine last night. I removed things one by one to try to narrow it down to the point all mods were removed. Still crashes on startup. Validated files. No effect. Rebooted. No effect. Moved saved games out of folder. No effect. Any suggestions?

Occasionally the ship comes out a different color yes, but typically it's spot on
you gotta play around with different options of ships and see which loaded in correctly

You might have some problems with planet collisions. I know there have already been some reports of overlapping planets in Origins
yeah I've seen that. I don't know how easy it is to toggle distance between planets since they are often times to near anyway. Regardless of my opinion, increasing the planets sizes would compensate for the visual difference that would occur from changing the distances of the planets. say if the planets were 350 times bigger, the distance would have to be as well. But like i said, i don't know how simple that is to do

I only know where to copy them for the steam version, which is in the PCBANKS folder. You create a MODS folder in there and copy the .pak into the MODS folder

I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to windows infrastructure. All the changes I made didn't cause any issues. But regardless, I don't think there is a work around. I believe NMS will be unmoddable online until Hello Games adds ModifiableWindowsApp support on the Xbox Windows 10 Beta app.
Hopefully my findings will save people the time from reaching a dead end.

Getting a lot more storms on my longer save
The save is survival save converted into normal mode. Stack sizes and everything went nicely but most of the planets have remained with storms

afaik there is no correlation between storm change and save time. I haven't seen anything I remember relating to that in the classes when I was mapping them out...
btw if you're on windows 10, it now detects ANY exe files that are not digitally signed, so just because you get a warning from downloading that save editor doesn't mean it has a virus in it (saw some people get worried about this)
Storm duration, and length of time between storms, is in SKY GLOBALS. Storm occurrence chance is in the weather files at METADATA\SIMULATION\SOLARSYSTEM\WEATHER. None of those have properties related to survival mode.

@lime mesa I don't if you were the one at reddit but unfortunately I can't help you here. Sorry. The save files are completely independent to the game files itself. No extra permissions or anything needed. Just read/write as any normal file. You just have to understand the container concept MS uses for Windows Store games and whatever the game devs itself additionally applied to their saves

New update for experimental
I'm still fairly new-ish to NMS (107 hours as of right now) but I've looked at a few mods and was wonder a few things. How does modding work? (I.E. How to install them, are they buggy, etc) How does it affect the main game? (Will it break Multiplayer or other online aspects) How would I go about installing them? And mainly, what's some good mods to start with?
NMS isn't the first game I've modded (I've done Minecraft (A lot lmao) Factorio, Satisfactory, Spintires and a few others) but it's the first game I've wanted to try modding where it's basically always multiplayer (Anomaly) so I'm not sure where to start

Really? I thought it would because you'd have content another player doesn't have. My experience with other games like Satisfactory and Minecraft tells me the game will throw a fit if the two (or more) players trying to join don't have the same mods

I might be wrong here, but I think the fact that No Man's Sky doesn't actually sync much information between players is why it works so well in multiplayer with mods.
Like, If I'm playing with some crazy mod that changes everything about biome gen, and I'm in a party with a friend playing vanilla, we can still go to the same planet without issue, even though it would look vastly different between the two of us
because the game isn't syncing any of the information about that planet between us, instead it's just trusting that its generating the same thing for both of us

If it's an appearance mod, only you see it. If it's a save edit, other players might see it.

There's a parameter in your save file that changes your characters height, lol. this is fun in the anomaly when you're either 1 inch or 50 feet tall

Yes, but the colors don't show to others. I don't recall if the model change does

@lime mesa You can directly plug in seeds to change the model and colour but only according to the way the game uses the seeds with native colours and parts. There is a seed exchange website where you can look thru what people have found and take the designs. If making changes thru seeds all players would see them. So I just made a mod to remove all the new biomes from Origins, reverting things mostly back to their pre-update appearance... there's a major audience for that I'm sure... 
Heh, I really just did it to help me test some other things. Interesting how effective it is though. The RNG and existing biome tweaks remained consistant enough so that it still uses the same palettes and spawns most of the same assets (there are occasional changes, similar to those in the Next->Beyond transition). Trees/rocks/etc don't necessarily spawn in the exact spots, but the general clustering is the same.
Why would you want to remove new biomes?
Keep talking like that and I'll remove the old biomes too! Only dead planets for everyone, muhahahaha!

You could just make planets with life extremely rare. Cuz you will at least still need some things from them to live lol
Just the essentials though. Flora needs the chance to spawn in order to get carbon. There are weird looking assets for those I believe
