At one point there was a version that was instructions for how to make it yourself. Later it was made into a pak. Not sure how it is now but maybe you got the instructions version if itโs still available?

you can find drop pods with any exocraft that has the scanner upgrades, or via 'drop pod coordinate data'
you find it at 'ancient data sites' (rare) or sometimes at galactic trade terminals
for buying slots, go to a space station where you've not yet purchased a slot, go to the stand right by the exosuit tech vendor, interact. then call in the anomaly and go to the exosuit tech vendor there and do the same.
so 2 slots per system if yo u have the units.

does anyone happen to know if there is a mod that would allow starship collectors have more than nine ships? we are setting up another save later to hopefully store mods and excess starships we've worked on.. not sure if collecting/class finished ships is a thing.. but we are running out of room for more projects to pour into, without losing the ones we've already completed /brought to s-class...
@idle sonnet No Man's Sky Companion is not a mod but a program built specifically for collectors, allows you to export/import pretty much anything you want to collect with ability to attach thumbnail pics for ease of storage/retrieval.

I think the only reason I played Elite Dangerous is because the space looked so realistic. Everything else about that game is awful! But lot of times I find myself thinking NMS is just as good, but for me I really like the realistic space look, and with the mod, I can get pretty close. But I understand too, that other ppl may not look at it like that

@tall verge a) Some people find no satisfaction in being spoon fed, and b) outside of the PC community, players who save edit are a very small minority, ps5 players outright cannot do it, ps4 requires paid software, and xbox requires the ability to sync to a PC, load fully into one's saves at least once, and knowledge of how to make that work lol.

there is a different fix and it's getting the most powerful CPU you can afford
the lag is due to decompression on the fly
so if you get a better CPU it'd take less time to decompress

If you don't see the mod warning screen when you start NMS then one of these things is probably happening:
You are using Vortex mod manager from Nexus mods. DON'T DO THAT.
The mods are in the wrong folder. They should be in: No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA\PCBANKS\MODS\
You are installing something that's not a mod. You need to install .pak files in the MODS folder.
You didn't delete the DISABLEMODS.txt file. You need to delete DISABLEMODS.txt in: No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA\PCBANKS\MODS\

you know how to decompress a zipped archive?
zips are supported natively by Windows 10
so you can just double click into the zip file like a folder

I can't imagine what could cause lag in it, and I just tested that mod earlier today and had no problems, so I'm guessing the cause is something else. It's always possible, though.
Some mods can cause random issues also. I remember when installing Redmas fantasy assets and extreme fantasy terrain, I had the game slowing down then I went to pause menu and wanted to switch tabs. And when I wanted to load a save, it went into an โพ๏ธ loading screen and I had to force shutdown the game. The ๐ never happened again so far.

Finally updated for Endurance, Custom Freighters is back. All freighters should have collisions now. File size has been reduced. A few freighters have engine effects added. Some hangars have been repositioned to fit Endurance freighter bases. The Executor had to be removed and has been replaced by the Annihilator.

@hearty wasp i have a mod out that takes pirate encounters and turns them so they won't attack unless you have a certain amount of cargo. also have one that turns off bounties... if you're looking not not need space stations Redmas https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2414 makes your frieghter essentially into a station. but glonley really spreads things out a lot i like it. but it doesn't cut down on activities happening.

I don't know if it's a known thing but whatever that circle on your ships HUD is that counts down. That timer effects it cause it causes an event to happen. Pirates scan, bounty, frieghter hail

The executable only reads MODS from the "No Man's Sky/GAMEDATA/PCBANKS" directory.
You could however, created a "DISABLED MODS" folder in there & drop stuff into it though, but any .pak mods will need to be in the same directory.
From what I've noticed.. when looking at NMS builds of other platforms, the contents inside of them have been pretty much identical to the PC build. I've modded the RC1 PS4 version of No Man's Sky in the past & will be porting over some stuff from it into modern NMS at some point.
So, it probably is possible to mod on the XBOX, but more trouble than it's worth. There are no resources available within the modding community for it.
for use with AMUMSS
You use the LUA with AMUMSS to build a mod. It's not needed to use the mod.

Is better planet genereting is good as mod ?
I like the mod. Its biomes are beautiful and it spawns also some stuff which doesn't spawn in vanilla game (or I just missed it there/didn't get it there yet), like mordite stones. Also it's described to spawn different things per region, but so far I didn't notice it much.
The mod changes existing planets though, so for example a โข๏ธ planet might turn suddenly into an ice or ๐ planet when you install the mod.
Which also breaks the planet discovery system - other players might not see you as the one who discovered the planet if you upload the modded one.

People in posts, with the author included, also report some crashes on some biomes. But so far I had no crashes. And as the mod has also two terrain generation addons, which are outdated, I think that it's these ones causing the crash.
Yep. If you uninstall the mod you get back the old planets.
It's good idea generally disabling all mods for example when you play multiplayer.

Somebody reported that it causes crashes in a star system with your settlement if you change the planet by installing/uninstalling mod. But for me it works fine.

Also one thing which I like with Better Planet Generation, when compared to other mods, this one feels like it expands the vanilla game. It doesn't do stuff like making your computer suffer with higher performance or spawning giant plants and other too changing stuff.
Unlike the mentioned Redmas mods.

All mods are usually installed same - you open zip/rar file and extract the .pak file into the mods folder in the NMS data something folder (PCBanks I think).
Redmas has it more complicated as he does his mods modular.
So you can choose what you want to have changed and what not.
Meanwhile BPG is just one .pak file with two terrain generation addons.
(Which are outdated.)
Cool thing is that Redmas is now doing .lua file for AMUMSS tool to make his mod even more modular. And also auto update itself when new version of NMS gets released.
Because problem is with each new release .pak files, which is how usually mods are packed and installed, get outdated with each game update and need to be recompiled and in some cases even rewritten.

Regardless of OK it can break your game apart. I have good computer too and had one case, where Redmas fantasy assets caused me infinite loading screen when I tried to reload my save.
And I hear my computer struggling when travelling on planet too far.
For BPG it's fine.
Redmas generally goes more crazy with his mods... Giant plants and giant animals. Giant objects appearing in skies. Etc.
BPG is more tame there.

Though one Redmas mod which I really like is Redmas derelict freighter procedural generation.
It changes derelict freighter that when you get to each one, there also some other point of interest spawns next to it. So you have more reasons to visit derelicts than just for the dungeon experience. And more ways to get a space anomaly.
Important is mod conflicts and load order.

As in NMS, if multiple mods change same file, the latter loaded mod wins.
I don't like vortex much and I doubt that it helps in case of NMS. But maybe somebody has more experience with it.
For mod conflicts, I recommend you to run AMUMSS tool. Which has just a file doing the mod conflict check.

In Skyrim and TES games I use the community version of Nexus Mod manager.

The Vortex, with which Nexus Mods decided to replace the original tool, didn't work for me.
It "installed" the mods, only to be there no mods installed.
And in case of NMS it's just simple extraction anyway.
In fact, some mods even don't support auto mod manager anymore.

Since some old update, HG did implement mods folder (there is for some reason second one, fake one though, to troll us.). From which the game loads mods when its launched.

Also load mod order sometimes doesn't solve conflicts.
For example I tried to combine Redmas Vision constructs spawning mod with BPG.
And while I made the Redmas mod load after BPG, it didn't spawn anything, because it supports only vanilla biomes.
So when you combine mods, it's good idea to also read their description, if they say if there are some compatibility issues.

Lua files are for the AMUMSS tool in case that the mod author allows you to modify or regenerate the mod from the Lua file. For normal uses, there are pak files.

If it does some generation changes, only you see them, unless other people have same mods installed too. In the mentioned cases it will probably make you faster than other players, so I would consider it as exploiting/cheating in multiplayer. But HG doesn't seem to mind modders much.
I heard that the game has some unofficial Proton support in it so it can be ran fine. But as I don't use Linux (aside of my Android ๐ฑ ), I don't have personal experience with it.

By default, your games will be installed to :

(This is the GOG Games directory in your home folder) You are able to select a different path, if you want to.
and with Galaxy it may be different
cos it can go under the Galaxy folder if not custom

How are you removing and adding them? Vortex? If so do it manually instead. If already doing it manually then I donโt know what to tell you other than check again to make sure you removed them. Mods should not affect your save except in very specific cases and with the mods removed any change to a save will revert.

But yep. I have to make a save in space as I am using planet and terrain generation mods. And it would be bad one day awake above the ground... Or to be buried alive suddenly.
Good idea for safety, however just FYI there is a 99.99999% chance they do not change terrain. Even if they did, they would have to do a total overhaul of the structure to affect the mod.
I have one terrain changing mod though - Redmas Fantasy terrain. That one changes terrain (voxel) generation.
And that, like all other mods, will have to go away until updated when the game update arrives.
I hear ya. What I'm saying is voxelgen has not changed for years. I have a terrain mod Terra Firma that has been through many NMS updates without issue. A voxelgen mod will most likely not need to be updated.
Any mod besides a texture only mod or voxelgen has a good chance of needing an update.
The terrain mod is probably the one mod you have that won't need an update.
Interesting. I also have one mod changing procedural generation of Derelict freighters. And I doubt that this stuff will be changed too.
Hmm yeah hard to say. The voxelgen is basically in one file and nothing else is in that file. A lot of other files have things for many different type systems in them. So you could have an asteroid mod that needs an update because they changed AI ship spawns....because both of those things are in the same file.
The Derelict freighter one should only add more models for the Freighter itself and then it also adds another point of interest (Anomaly type) spawning near it.

@turbid elk It's a 100% dose, which means +0.5m - depending on how far away from capping a pet is, you'll need to run the egg through resequencing multiple times to max it.

Doesnt matter, the flying snake type was expanded to include all the same parts that giant worms can spawn with, so the only real difference between them as pets is the specific fauna type name.

i haven't tried editing anything yet - no need personally - but i can test, sure.
i've seen that error multiple times with previous versions of the game and the save editor
was never a reason for concern
never had any problems because of it
the bug report in the github issue speaks of an issue handling/opening the save, not modifying it or saving it or even loading it in game, usr didn't get that far - but i can surely test loading the modified save
game loaded save just fine, i'm not seeing any issues on my end
maybe if the save was edited with a previous version it will not work?
but truth be told, some functions of the save editor are now a part of the game...

A word of advise, for any of the save editors being used, make sure you have a backup of your saves. There may still be some issues due to changes made!

it's most likely some corner case that appears in your save and hasn't been accounted for by the save editor author
