I think maybe the Vykeen knew the Anomaly was capable of evading the Atlas while also leading to the Atlas' destruction, so they questioned who would be worthy to weild such a "weapon."
Obviously the Vykeen believe they should be the ones with that power but saw that a Korvax and Gek working together against the Atlas is a better one to weild the weapon.

I guess the monolith/Atlas spoke to Nal at the top of a mountain and Hirk got salty and killed him. In Nal's final logs he mentions that his death is really an awakening to come after "The Last Traveler" ends the simulation/world.

Perhaps Korvax Prime/The Convergence is the Abyss trying to take over the Atlas. The Korvax used their own blood to alter the first spawn. And then there were those bits of lore from a while back saying to avoid the water and saying what it can do to you. Said water could actually be the blood of the Korvax. It's meant to serve as a warning to avoid the blood at all costs. And referring back to the weekend missions there was that one moment when we find out that our current Ariadne is not the one we once knew. Perhaps the "Abyss" tainted them with "their" blood and caused a change in them.
There's probably a better way for me to explain my theory but hopefully you get the idea 😅

Oh yeah, I'm very familiar with them. I play a bunch of MMOs. I think where this one deviates from the others though is this one is supposed to have some big secret behind it. Some surprise at the end of the road. Whereas community goals like ones in ESO (The one that comes to mind was that goal where they gave away a free player home) already have the content clearly stated and placed out. While that goal was completed very quickly, it wasn't much of an issue to the devs cause they said "We'll be releasing the rewards on X date". Where with this, I can very much see the NMS devs being taken aback that it got so far so quickly, and maybe needed more time to polish up the "surprise" and therefore scaled the progression down a bit. I dunno, just sort of spit balling. Goal should be completed by tonight though if the progress keeps up.

No it was. It'd appear every few jumps and you could get tech upgrades from Nada and Polo for milestones, coordinates to black holes or other atlas stations, and free multi-tools.

Let's say a game has 1 million players. And a community goal for that game needs 5 million "points" to reach 100%. That'd mean all 1 million players would have to do the goal 5 times. But lets say day 2 of the event, 100,000 more people start playing the game. The devs wouldn't then boost the required number up to 5.1 million, thus lowering the current goal %. That's the only reason why that doesn't make sense to me. Regardless, we're very much in the endgame now.

There's an activated indium planet in the starter system, I'd recommend going there and chewing up some deposits, you'll be set for chromatic metal for the entire expedition
