Atlas is failing and the boundaries between universes are failing. You have traveler logs from other universes.
The living ship questline has you collecting the soul of a traveler who died.
So the soul of the traveler stays behind on the place where they died, that's why you can see the traveler of a traveler grave.
Also: one of the quests allows you to look for other travelers like you, but it says you are alone.
There is a reason you are called "The Last Traveler"
Returning user could also be the case of computers not being programmed to recognize a specific traveler, but instead simply a traveler entity. A computer knowing what traveler you are is a boundary failure onto itself.

Found your conversation really interesting. Could the abyss not represent malignant software or corruption in the system? In essence it is bad data but in the universe of the Atlas it manifests as the corruption, or at least those that dwell within see it that way. Resetting can temporarily keep it at bay, but never for long.
Another idea is that it is a computer virus, another sentience within the system.
If it is a virus, another sentience that undoes the work of the Atlas, it could explain why the Korvax are so paranoid about divergence

@indigo smelt Honestly, that's essentially Beyond, especially narratively speaking if not entirely mechanically. While Beyond did increase the number of players one could encounter out in the field, and introduced a revamped hub area in the form of the Space Anomaly, it also introduced other, stable travelers hanging out together.
I say stable in the sense that they don't appear to be the Echoes we encounter out and about that direct us to graves. These travelers, for narrative purposes, may be considered no more than ghosts tbh, or in NMS terms, Echoes.

Atlas has had a God complex for quite awhile . It's why the sentinels destroyed an entire universe . 1 "glitch " evolved into everything needing to be obliterated .
It's why Atlas considers you an anomaly even right from the beginning of the game, "traveler anomaly detected ."
Supposedly the sentinels "no longer work for the Atlas " but obviously still have that "maintain balance of the program " to a fault against any and all anomalies who don't "follow the rules "

i.e.
What we know - the universe is a simulation running on an Atlas for some purpose. To discover the purpose, the atlas has arranged for the vykeen/gek/korvax to build a supercomputer that you access using rememberance and an atlass pass v3.
You start a simulation of the universe. Running on an Atlas. A simulation that necessarily includes you. You see yourself in it even. {{This is a boundary failure.}}
This makes you, by definition, anomalous as you are both the creator, and inside the simualtion.
If the simulation is accurate then in the simualtion you encounter a supercomputer, on which you boot up a copy of the Atlas and run a simulation. Which will include yet another copy of you.

As I understand, systems with no space station are the best places to pulse for living ship modules. It's still grindy, but there should be fewer of the other types of random encounters for RNGeesus to pick from.

I have found more in Red Star systems.
I did have a system that would give two modules with each save/reload, but apparently, it's been nerfed by HG and it doesn't do that anymore.

I think the idea is, a reload increases the chances of it triggering sooner, as does reloading while ship-hunting at a trading post or system station.
And yeah, @fringe turtle , I've heard that said about red star systems before and experienced the same thing, last save.

@indigo smelt like I said, it's based on a seed. So if you go to a system where the first pulse even is an egg, second is (who fucking cares) and the third is an egg, you do the three events, save, load, then repeat

Finally maxed out my living ship. It doesn't have the best core jump range compared to an explorer type ship, but given chromatic metal fuel and a virtually unlimited amount of copper, that's not a problem. I would even say that the chromatic metal fuel allows me to make 100 times as many jumps as before.

Well I mean, the hypercore will bring you to full as opposed to partial.
It's definitely not a waste if you actively use your freighter to travel from system to system.
More colored drive upgrades stacks into hyperjump distance and efficiency too so you can make further jumps for less fuel . Maximizing your cores even more .

Using a warp hypercore in a freighter is a waste of resource. A single warp cell will fill the hyperdrive.

i've got about 200 hours in game. went and actually got my survival save to the core and reset. tried permadeath a few times, but can;t get it yet 😛
my question is related to resetting once you reach the core
out of sheer nervous ness when i got to the end the first time, i opted not to reset.
now, i actually GOT to the center (setup a base ~3k from the core to help others if they need)
but now i can't actually go back on that opt out
i assume that the only way to get the newer galaxies is to reset the first time? once i didn't do that, did I screw myself?

I think the reset is a one-time thing, but you can still fly through the center to get to the next galaxy

No, it's just nigh impossible to get it to select the center. There is a center-point; you just need to be at a gateway system and have a full drive, then have fun trying to select it

Is it not possible to say summon another ship to there? Or use a teleporter and get everything to easily fix your ship back

When doing a jump you should...
- If you used a nice ship (Exotic/Explorer/Fighter) to get to the gateway system then land on a planet and summon the ship you wish to use for the jump, a ship with no upgrades in General Inventory is great.
- Select a crappy Multitool, again one you're not botherd about getting broke
- Have the materials on you to repair the stuff that's about to get brokem oh! and a load of Wiring Looms
- As much tech as you can not in general inventory of your suit put high cost items (Star Seed/Remembrance) in the tech slots as upgrades in these slots are protected from damage
- Make the jump
- Land on planet and summon other ship and switch back to good multitool then just do the repairs to the ship/suit/multitool as you go

I can imagine that HG can see drama potential if they enable crossplay between Win10 and XB, but not the other platforms. And HG I imagine are sensitive to drama.
and, as a developer, its literally in the terms and conditions when you sign up for the game-pass program. Unless microsoft wanted the game badly enough to waive the usual requirements, the fact that NMS is coming on gamepass means there is crossplay between the windows 10 and XB version.
