and @willow dome , doing some save scumming to see what all I can do with the living's and I've got amendment to my previous statement, it looks like it's tied to the crash site, then the system, and systems can have a toooonnn of crash sites on a single planet. I do not know what their max is, but same coordinates seem to yield the same ship but different coordinates do not. Still testing, soon as I've got at minimum of 30 data points will report back.

Yep, the planet I'm working with right now is an arrid (dust-storm) planet with cactus, which is bronze, black, gold, and white/pink with rare cactus green.

Some time the game has a bit of a derp and forgets to clear out the normal crashed ship. It's a darn good way to log a ton of crash sites on a planet 😄
