I must admit i've always had a shallow understanding of the NMS lore since finding out it was all a simulation. But I guess 'in stellar multitudes' is to say we've actually already got the void mother, she manifested as the purple systems.

I still don't get why thee Atlas would ask us to seek out the void mother. It did everything it could to destroy her, locked her up in the world of glass for a really long time and when she escaped it was no thanks to the Atlas sooo...why would it ask her for help? But either way the entire story feels like it is coming to an end...all of the plot about the Atlas going rampant and being insane. Constantly resetting the simulation over and over looking for an answer to an end of reality scenario...this seems to be it. Once we do deal with the hive for good, that will be the end of the core story.

People were speculating yesterday: the planet that you teleport to after confronting the Hive of Glass, is it the world of glass? I used the visor and I noticed it's the same planet that I re-iterate on. But the milestone is also "Devoured - Escaped the world of glass"... I'm thinking do we escape the world of glass every time we die and re-iterate in the game? Is the world of glass the afterlife?

Not much with this update. Potential for HG to do more with space battles in future updates...maybe involve stations and freighters. Beyond that the main things from the past remain: at some point we'll likely be allowed to own up to 8 freighters so some kind of freighter update is incoming at some point, and some sort of dice game was datamined too...that's about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get more corvette parts come this next update, since its a safe bet at this point that it's going to be space focused. Just depends how much emphasis they put on freighters as the key feature, or if its a more broad touchup of space.

Personally I'm hoping for the latter. Freighters are nice and all, but space rn is sorely lacking anything of real substance to do other than fly through it to reach a planet, or find a derelict.

You know, looking at what bomber datamined, im thinking they might finally give the station override a function as a system claim mechanism, and the swarm war mechanics will be used as an occassional hazard that pops up sometimes as a result of claiming a system, the game might slot together a hostile force that attacks and you have to defend against them.

Finally bringing the station overrides back would be a nice touch for the anniversary, since they've inadvertently been at the heart of conspiracies since they were dropped then hastily removed.

People always assumed it was to claim and then build on a space station. But I always found it odd that they'd have coded the item to claim a station (and even added it in expedition 3 before hastily removing it as a reward) if they hadn't even considered or begun making the means to build on them? Surely if that was their purpose, there'd have been some datamined leftover files of station build parts etc?

Which to me says it was something more light touch, like claiming it on behalf of a faction like u said.

They definitely need to do more mechanics around things like faction rep yush. Could even make it so if you're attacked by a swarm or pirates, if you're in a system with a species you have good rep with, they're more likely to warp in and assist.

The WinnerTrophy checks for the CM winner and displays their logo. marked to be placed at the center point of the anomaly (nexus), but it doesnt seem to be referenced in the mesh already, so its effectively unused rn.

I kinda prefer the nexus cube to this thing in the center personally, but to each their own

I thought this too. This one is a bit too militaristic and angular for the neon bright aesthetic of the anomaly. Its going to look a bit jarring.

Also I didn't pay close attention to the lore of the prismatic core, but is it meant to be one of the crashed swarm repurposed into the prismatic core? Or are they just reusing the same asset?

Oh yea it is. Royal Is sent as the cached Auth server response with the expedition file, and should be overwritten but the actual authentication sequence, but since you're online that likely failed and fell back to the royal cached one. The game should check your team from the Auth sequence directly but seems to fall back to the expedition file

Yeah, it could be that I was coincidentally Royal when I went online to do phase 3.

Or it just accepted the “override” from my client.

What's funny is, I checked the server response with a few friends of mine and (could be a coincidence) but it gave me royal when their Auth sequence showed "red" as the assigned team before they even booted up the game.

so to whoever comes from main channel and is interested in charts and how they work

in NMS there exist those things called scan events - elements that are responsible for finding stuff matching specific parameters and (usually but not always) marking them with a marker

you talk to a monolith to get location of a portal? that's a scan event. you do expending the base quest and are tasked with talking to a specific NPC at the space station to hire as an overseer? also a scan event. You go to Space Anomaly, pick a Nexus mission to get some Activated Indium and get warped to a system? guess what, that was also found by a scan event. You drive a colossus and select option from quick menu to scan for waste processing plants? You know the answer.

in case of charts, there's a bunch of scan events declared, pretty much 1 for every type of planet-side structure you can think of - portal, monolith, manufacturing facility, bone dig site, crashed swarm ship, etc

these scan events have a lot of parameters, and in case of distance I think the key one is this

Building Location is the parameter that in theory should dictate the distance. You can see in this particular example its set to "Nearest" which should be pretty self-explanatory

keyword being "should" because there exists another parameter "Force Wide Random" and lots of scan events have that set to "true"

which I believe overwrites the "nearest" settings and just picks a random location to make players hoof it

those are all possible values for the Building Location parameter, dont ask me how they work cause I dont know

Does this explain how save/reloading before scanning will sometimes have the scanner mark a closer target? I used that trick for warehouse depots and salvage sites multiple times (not in the expedition).

I have no explanation for that, we don't really see how this stuff works internally

all we do is take existing example, change one parameter, see what changes in game, test it till we get the outcome we are satisfied it, repeat

its "moderately easy" to add a new chart / locator item and corresponding scan event for lets say the ancient guardians, the big stone statues found on planets with ruins

but to test it extensively to work for specific biomes / solar system types / distances becomes tricky

most of the time we add stuff, we test it once, we see it's good enough and move on

The implications of this expo so far, and potentially the ARG (should it turn out to be official), makes me all the more hyped for whatever HG has in store for the anniversary.

Really feeling like we‘re in for another Echoes, or even better a Worlds PT3 but dedicated to space and/or poi‘s. Should it turn out to be freighters, this could potentially be connected to a huge space update.

yeah that aligns with one of Sean's early tech talks, describing how they have no predefined map of POIs on a planet because they're all procedurally generated, so they have to do a scan to find one (how that's done I don't know, I assume it requires a lot of math). obviously they've gotten somewhat better at this over time because in the early days you might be sent to one on the other side of the planet

Not necessarily with signal boosters and exocraft scanners, but charts and scans from other POI can find something on the other side of the planet

You can tell based on the direction the camera points you when the location is found

Eeehhhh, I sometimes miss things being more balanced, quite frankly.

A lot of the things in NMS have little value now, like take a look at the three star ressources, those are supposed to feel special yet most peeps only care about mould really.

Though personally I also like the metal fingers as I generally avoid automating.

But sac venom…is freakin lethal, fighting Sentinels near Sac Venom fields is one of the most daring things you can do.
