Haven't seen any patch note features about them, probably HG inflating the trailer notes since the expedition rendezvous points will probably be in purple systems with a few milestones thrown in for gas giants id assume

This could be an incentive for players to finish the main storyline by granting them a temp access to those system.

Those have been there since the start since the space version is just a reuse of the planetary crashed freighters. You could even shoot down their doors in your ship. Makes sense that they'd be interactive
The interactions have been there too iirc, but you couldn't really try them out without your life support running out

Improved lighting transitions when changing environments - notably when warping between solar systems, when entering or exiting planetary atmosphere, or when moving between interior and exterior locations.
Only sad thing for me is update broke the settlement corvette workaround folks were using for a guaranteed corvette spawn position for glitch building.
Also fixed the deleting from a corvette ship when at the workshop. The trick to not having a reactor and stuff.
I don't think we'll get another entirely corvette focused update again, but I would be surprised if corvette parts weren't a staple of expedition rewards/ extra additions in large updates in the future

So the Fireship Arcadia requires the beacon thing to find, you can't get that blueprint outside of the expedition afaik. That seems fine, since the Arcadia is a specific ship created for expedition 20's story and doesn't server much purpose aside from giving lore.
What I want to know more about though, is the other new space POI added in the update. From what I can tell from the files, it should be a regular pulse encounter that you should find if you're flying a corvette and shouldn't be exlusive to the expedition. Has anyone seen one yet?

The issue would be that it doesnt have a unique indicator for what it is, so we cant do the "pulse until specific thing shows up" method
Looked at it a bit closer and its supposed to just load the same model as the expedition specific one. There's proc gen for some textures/colours and for the location of the black box but that's all the variety it has.
Looks like it's also blocked from spawning during the expedition, but they may have made a mistake with that? It's seemingly blocked during season 39 which doesn't look right

It's easier to reuse existing framework of rare space encounters activated with pulse drive than to prepare a whole new one

Random event that pops up while using fast travel isnt the same as stumbling upon something in real time
I hope that one day we do get persistent space POIs but they really don't have any of the framework down for them yet.
Even black holes and Atlas stations have to be set to spawn right next to the space station to ensure they don't intersect with any planets
I thought there was some code to avoid planets when spawning things? But yes I 100% agree. If its a rendering issue, all they have to do is have bubbled coordinates in space which are designated by an icon that when we are inside it spawns (then despawns) the relevant POI. that would at least give the illusion of these being permanent fixtures.
So a using a derelict scanner wouldn't just be a case of pulsing in any given direction, but towards an icon that would get blipped when you use it.
Same for anomaly detectors.
And if the bubble is large enough and there's some degree of offset for the icon, that would avoid two people in multiplayer spawning a POI on top of one another, so still getting their own separate instances of it.
Planets have had so much TLC over the years and yet other than the introduction of the pulse POIs, it feels all space gets are constant dogfighting updates and new freighter battles. Especially with spacewalking now, some TLC for space is sorely needed.
I mean space POIs aren't even shared for passengers on your corvette
What I think they should start doing is announcing at the start of each update year what the theme is going to be. Like: Space focused updates. That would solve the issue of people feeling like they keep dropping every idea after implementing it, it would allow some cohesion between content updates so they can actually tie into one another over time, and it means they don't have to cram everything they want to do on a particular component of the game in one update or risk having to move onto the next.
Each update can still be exciting in exactly what its going to bring, but we'd know the general throughline for the year.
This is season 39. The season number is the absolute number of expeditions they've run including reduxes. The display number is the actual unique exped number

so yeah, it seems that corvette wrecks have to be manually triggered in the expedition, but are randomly encountered by pulse jumping with a corvette in other modes.

Although something that is interesting is that on the page on nomanssky.com it doesnt state that space wrecks are only part of the expedition. It states it as a new feature added. Same thing when you look at the twitter post summarising the update. It states the space wrecks and breach expedition as separate points not linked to each other.
They do exist outside of the expedition (I was lucky and found one on the first try), but without a dedicated item to search for them, it's very tedious to do so with anomaly detectors.
It seems like it is a feature that is available even outside of the update just very rare

They usually specify Switch 2 in the patch notes if it's for 2 only. They did that with Voyagers fixes.
As for what exactly "optimizations amd improvements" means, and if it's for both consoles or just Switch 1... no idea. We'll have to wait and see.

I notice I tend to get more of certain parts from the encounter wrecks than I get from scrap, so I think the wrecks are more likely to give rarer stuff

yes you can summon your freighter to another galaxy, your freighter will be unharmed
you need to collect resources on the planet to repair your stuff now
just like in the beginning
or you can set it to custom and free repair it all if its too much

Hello, I found a robot named Autophage K-Z68/V58 after triggering a mission. I spoke to it and repaired it with crystals found on site, but then it started repeating the same thing over and over and my mission disappeared. Does this mean anything to anyone?

After having gone through pretty much everything added, it looks like Breach only included 2 unused things:
This Aeron corvette gun
and this slice piece, would match with the Arcadia Stabiliser
It appears that the gun was repurposed into the engine part? They have the same basic shape but the engine is much more detailed, and the barrel part is changed
Pieces often share similarities or even reused assets with others

Huh, strange. Either HG changed the shop number for Switch for all of these to be a community mission that was already completed, or (for switch specifically), they're returning a current community mission number greater than the one for these decals
There's ~ 4 more community missions after the decals though (although one of them is for an expedition rerun), and since the reruns start on the 19th, we'll probably get another update till then, which might get the switch CM shop back on track with the others?

I am surprised that the new parts from the expedition are locked in black. Means we have to accomodate to the parts rather than the other way around. I get that it looks neat, but I'd like to be able to change both the hull color as well as the red highlights. I mean we can on the armor parts of the same style?

And @cosmic anvil so the thing I noticed was the logs are given to us out of order, and if you put them in order of the date, the story kinda changes because the order of events is different. Another thing is the jellyfish, which has a song that continues on and on, drawing you in, implying it is what lured the fireship Arcadia to the abandoned region we find it in.
Then theres stuff thats more implied due to previous storyline connections. Lots of people noticed the similarities to the cursed expedition as well as adrift, which can indicate some sort of connection. Breach being the title can also indicate that things from cursed are crossing over.
Admittedly, the second paragraph is more speculative, and I'm not entirely sure what greater lore implications this may have, but the presence of song, water, aquatic creatures, and a crew being lured to their doom suggests a connection to the abyss

Yep, I don't think they meant that a new update was out, but rather that they'd acknowledged that both their consoles have the update, which if viewed a certain way might be considered false marketing since NS1 got absolutely nothing from Breach
Yep, the existing expedition files are still sitting on the servers so they could just swap the "active" expeditions to those. If we get a patch for the reruns, chances are HG will update NS1 with those changes to allow for a changed redux expedition file to be used by the console too

The fact that these communications don't exempt Switch 1, and these things are usually put in the pipeline well ahead of time, tells me at one point or another they were confident corvettes would be on switch 1 by now.

There are multiple indications that point to Switch 1 being initially included in the corvette rollout, but something happened. For one, if corvettes were never in cards, we would likely have had another Beacons. I.e. The update including everything but the removed content.
But instead, we have NS1 frozen on 5.75 still with the version number just changed to the current one (this has been verified, btw). That is a strong indicator that there's something up.
Are we sure a failed Nintendo certification is the reason? Well, no. And yes, my use of the word obviously is an error on my part. We don't know.

Reduxes do technically increment the total number of expeditions (which is why expedition 20 is called season 39 internally in some places but not others), but they also usually include a remix number to see which expedition it's a remix of iirc

Oh yep, the tweet got a lil mixed up actually. Serverside, it shows the next expedition as 40, not 21. So it's in a limbo of knowing that there is an expedition queued up, but not being sure if it's new or a redux

Personally I feel like it is a redux just going off timing and the fact that one of the community missions (after the one that starts with season 40) has an ID of COMM_EXPED, which might be for the expedition 19 rerun?
Yea update notes mentioned Breach running for 3 weeks, and the original start time of this new exped was ~ a week after breach ended too. Strange lil change

I think it's an extreme case of HG's communication methods causing issues. With older delays there wasn't much reason to expect support to have been dropped for the delayed platform before. But NS1's nature just seems to make it more prone to that kind of speculation?
The fake update is really what's making this worse, from a Switch 1 player perspective. If Voyagers rolled out on NS1 with everything but the corvette content, this wouldn't be so bad. Disappointing, but understandable given the NS1's age and limitations.
But freezing nearly everything post 5.75 and not stating why? Yeah, that's going to cause ending support speculation and doomsaying.
Beacons was different. We didn't get the settlement updates, no. And NS1 veteran players weren't expecting them anyway. But we got everything else non-settlements. Like the Autophage building parts, etc.
(Doesn't help that people here keep claiming "Well, Switch 1 didn't get Beacons either", which is objectively false...)
With the redux season coming up, I wonder if HG will drop 6.0/6.1 for NS1, make alternate expeditions for NS1 to still get the rewards, or just shut them off from the rewards entirely?
It Depends from what they can push inside switch 1. If corvettes will be out of reach, maybe they will just unlock the rewards as recompensation

still interesting if reduxes are starting early this year. I doubt it's to make them longer, if that's the case there'd be pretty good chance that the Breach redux would end up longer than the original's shortened run lol
This adds credibility to the fact that one day they will have all expeditions open to re-run at any time, if they are trying to make them future proof. Probably some work still on certain expeditions, but on the whole sounds like it would be mostly feasible today, would just also mean way too much QA testing for every unrelated update.
Game awards is December the 11th. No way they would fit the entire redux start to finish before then, that was my only theory for why they might be rushing the reduxes early.
Could point to something after the game awards tho? if we do get a LNF update there, maybe a tie in event? Or something they want us to keep our calendars empty for?
Yesterday I was checking their presentation at TGA 2023 (LNF announcement), and indeed -- I didn't remember -- they teased the Orbital update there...
They did, and it would be neat if they did something in NMS as a teaser/lead in to LNF, even if its just some furry style head cosmetics or medieval cosmetics.
Whatever the reasoning, the fact they changed things around makes it fairly certain they're adjusting the timelines to line up with something so I don't think we've heard the last from HG for this year.
((Imagine if they did an early Beta of LNF for NMS owners to stress test the new server infrastructure >_>))

Now I imagine the reduxes were still running during the original 2023 LNF announcement, so there'd be no reason in truncating breach, Unless they wanted the NMS community with an empty calendar come TGA.

They've got a lot of previous expeditions people would love to replay again now (singularity, leviathan etc), so using up an extra slot on beachhead again feels kinda wasted imo
Mixtape exp can have rewards from any expedition tho . It does not have to be specificaly beachhead exp .
I was quasi joking. but i now feel if they were going to do a beta run of LNF, they wouldn't tie it to preorders like most would as that wouldn't be in line with the reputation they've cultivated with NMS. They're more likely to do it for existing NMS players so they can maintain that 'we don't ask for money' attitude. (Plus then it also boosts NMS sales and preorders on LNF.)
The optics on it is much better as a 'for our dedicated fans' than as a 'for our fans who are willing to fork out the price of the game, sight unseen.'
I wasnt thinking in terms of the rewards necessarily, but moreso the gameplay.
And for a game where multiplayer is at the heart of it, you want a dry run to make sure the actual launch day is as smooth as possible.
A quick side note on that, but if major NMS updates taught us anything... LNF initial version will be bugged. I hope players properly aligned their expectations, or we will see a bunch of "oh, this is NMS release all over again"
I didint think about gameplay bc its always overall the same. Go to points A-B-C-D-E and do tasks along the way. Cursed was intresting enough imo to get a rerun with mixtape reawards.

True! and more reason for a beta. Genuine testing, but also a way to kind of iron out as many of those bugs in a release that people will be more forgiving of, especially if it's 'free' for NMS players.

Not every game needs a beta, but i think it would be a net positive for them to in LNF's case.
The community has been their advertising angle for ages, let the community promote your game through livestreams, youtube videos on the beta, and word of mouth.

The downside to this actually that makes it less likely, is who it would exclude. LNF is next gen, so everyone who owns NMS on Switch 2, ps4, xbox one etc would be excluded despite owning the game.

They aren't I believe. One of the functions which sets the size of each terrain "chunk" per planet size only has the chunk size increase by ~ 2x for giants compared to the previous maximum for large planets, and 8x bigger than the smallest planets
There could be more factors for planet size of course, but the one that's the one I've toyed around with most and which seems to have the biggest impact on planet size, so that not being 10x any previous planet size feels like an exaggeration imo

The actual size of any given planet should be visible in memory. They are hardcoded too, there are set sizes for giant, large, medium, small and moon. Though I'm pretty sure gas giant moons are actually created by scaling one of the other planet sizes down instead of referencing those values directly

Gas giants atmospheres begin much higher than normal planets, don't they? I wonder if that's why it's set that high

This is why im so excited for lnf. I finally managed to find some lush giants and exploring them kinda gives something like a preview into what lnf will kinda look like
I only fear that pepole will start racing to discover things to the lvl of exploits and cheating and after a month everything will be explored and found
Another interesting point about this is, if HG ever decide to add new biomes, generation or assets like they do with NMS, how would they do so? Regenerating unfrequented regions? Adding new dimensions? Portals to other worlds?

LNF has base building though, and given how much they've talked up "persistent buildings" and community building, I don't think they'd change the world quite drastically

I've always wondered about this one (and we've discussed it in the past!) The one thing we haven't considered (which is unlikely but not completely so) is they have said its one earth sized planet. Nowhere have they said we will be able to explore it all from launch.
They could hold back continents, some shroud or fog we push back, or relegate us to one continent of countries to start. This might actually even be better for the community to be more dense otherwise this idea of persistent communities would just get lost in the sheer scale of the map.
And also, at the risk of sounding like a flat earther! We are assuming because NMS has spherical planets, that LNF will have a spherical planet. It's a fantasy setting, they could very well have a literal edge of the earth that falls away into a void, and then expand out into that space with updates?
In fact there's no reason for LNF to need to simulate a spherical earth really, because we'll probably never have the elevated perspective to perceive it. The same way that Minecraft's world isn't spherical, but rather just loops you round to the other side of the map once you hit the edge?

True, and you know way more of the way NMS is coded than I ever will! I imagine tho the question will be whether committing to the spherical generation of NMS' is worth more than the futureproofing of having a world that can be expanded outwards?
I am sure its a question HG have probably asked and discussed, whether the gimmick of a genuinely spherical world outweighs reconsidering how the world is generated to make it scalable in the future.
NMS is easy, like with purple systems they can just add 'more', but without leaving some space open, the world we get at launch will always be. They could do different dimensions and all that kind of thing a la minecraft, but too much of that and you're undermining the 'one world' gimmick of LNF.
Plus, and this is purely a subjective thing! It kind of makes a reverse incentive to reaching the centre of the galaxy.
reaching the literal edge of the world and seeing waterfalls of entire oceans cascading over into a void, staring out at a literal end of the world. That's kind of a fantasy realised.
And its a very big fantasy trope. Even middle earth started out flat before a cataclysm made it a sphere!
Plus, just taking the fact that it's the NMS engine, they will still have to throw out a lot of the foundation that handles the spheres. No solar system, no space station, no point of origin in the system, no multiple celestial bodies to consider. All that would be superfluous code, and a spherical world might be thrown out with it?
I don't think they ever planned to have new biomes added to NMS to the extent that they have, and I'm sure it's taught them a lot about the limitations of adding content post release. Maybe they'll do something like update the existing biomes to be more detailed? It is possible that they'll go a similar to route to NMS too, adding new biomes in a way that just replaces the set dressing without changing the underlying terrain or general type of environment (keeping deserts as deserts, forests as forests etc)

On the topic of the shape of the 'planet', I think it would be somewhat counter intuitive to not be a sphere, if it's flat then the center of the map becomes a really important place, the edges are remote and much harder to travel too. With a sphere, that isn't the case
I started thinking about it because before i was just like 'oh okay they could just add the new biomes to alternate dimensions.' but then i realised that no they couldn't. Because right now they usually add maybe 2-3 new biomes, or 4-6 new variations of an existing biome at a time. But if they wanted to add a new dimension, they'd have to add essentially a game's worth of biomes to make it feel like a worthwhile place. Otherwise it would be a monotonous alternate dimension of 1-2 biomes that would get boring minutes into visiting it.
Yeah and they could easily end up with way too many alternate dimensions

I don't think its necessarily bad if the edges get progressively more difficult to reach. Plus then we can all start out at a centralised spot and spread out?
Exactly, I feel even if they don't intend to add any new biomes for a very very very very long time, they'll have learnt how to keep the door open from NMS to make it easier to implement them when they do.
It would be pretty funny if 'go to the center of the map' became the marketing tagline like the galactic center was for NMS lol
And having a near infinite void around the world to expand out into feels like a good way to save yourself some headache later on.
