I was the first one to discover we could go into pirate freighters and that was the highlight for me.

Let’s assume that they already had content for it made and planned since it was originally supposed to release later in the summer. If this is true then it was delayed almost 6~ months. I believe that they spent that time refining it even more and possibly even adding more content

I hope they don't crunch or try to do too many things at once, and burn themselves out or stretch themselves too much and make the features of updates feel disconnected.

I personally think HG were surprised how the reception of Worlds Part 1 was and I think the reception made them want to make Worlds Part 2 more ambitious and bigger. It might not be bigger than their original plan but I think they're definitely cooking something up that's slightly more ambitious.

I would say moreso that this is the first update -- assuming Pt 2 is as big as Pt 1 -- that feels more like the OG yearly updates, which were equally huge

but that's probably more of how they chose to organize the updates, as last year was overall pretty light on new stuff outside of Pt 1

I consider the expedition updates to be more niche features. if Pt. 1 was scattered throughout the rest of the year, it would have felt like a more normal year. yeah it would definitely have to be tied to the purple worlds to be feasible without a universe reset, because enabling the proc gen system to generate multiple water levels would change all the planets, flood bases, etc.

The technical challenges are probably immense, since right now there's just a single water level per planet, and that's in part because users being able to modify terrain means that if someone dug around a lake, that would have to be handled somehow. would it flow outwards? would terrain around the edges of water areas not be modifiable? it's a whole mess to figure out. LNF is probably getting away with doing rivers by not making the terrain modifiable at all

we already knew that before the "leak". the purple element shows up on the portal interface in the shipping version of NMS

though I suspect portals won't be the only way to get to purple systems
