Oh nah it will be on the 23rd because Aquarius dropped on September 4th. They usually drop on Wednesday and seem to have been following a specific pattern since Adrift was released.

Usually the updates would drop a few days or weeks after the exp ends but now it looks like they end the Exp on a monday and then drop the update on Wednesdya

Since 🤬 means cursing - > cursed, I think it might have to do with the titanworms, biohorrors and the vile spawn because cursed dust could be found on infested planets during an expedition (and I think it still can be found in derelict freighters), but, as everything we discuss regarding this update, this is just speculation.

The main story is meant more as a companion piece to the existing gameplay I think

Its also very much a relic of 2017 NMS. The story itself is a clear reflection of what the gameplay and community was like back then.

Nowadays we can meet other travelers (players) super easily so getting that first call from Artemis is less impactful. The tragedy of not getting to see them in person is a lot less poignant when you have at that point met many other players at the anomaly

I mean I didn't like the story rewrite either when it came out. I appreciated the original story that was vague and let you draw your own conclusions. I had a whole backstory for my character and the universe that was wiped away when HG decided to add a "real" story where everything was just a simulation, because people were complaining about the lack of a strong single player narrative.

Over time I've made peace with it, I guess. The same way Sean has made peace with the game going in directions he never intended because he had to give up some control to community demands

Autophages are Korvax that were disconnected from the convergence when Korvax Prime aka. Void Mother got destroyed.

These Korvax never wanted to connect to Convergence and instead embraced individuality etc. Now they are autophages who actually pity the new generation of Korvax

these Korvax experienced some kind of change during their long isolation too. And then they began hearing the fragments of their old home

The game's assets are stored as .pak files which act like ZIPs, with all the actual assets being stuffed into like 80 files of varying sizes. If a single file has even a minute change inside of a given .pak, the entire pak will need to be redownloaded

From what I understand, when I get through the main storylines I have the chance to begin again in a new galaxy. Can you jump back and forth between galaxy's or is it more like starting again from scratch?

Going off the pattern this year, an expedition date being set before the update drop usually meant an expedition + small content update (like Aquarius). WPI and it's expedition were different since Liquidators had it's date set a few weeks after the update dropped, let alone showing up serverside.

Worlds Part II was supposed to come at the end of the summer instead of Aquarius, and we know Aquarius was made entirely in the time since Part I. It would make sense to me to theorize that Part II was intended to include the fourth and final expedition of the year, but because they delayed it and released Aquarius instead (which obviously had an expedition) that could explain why we seemingly have five expeditions this year (assuming this update is part II of course)

As a developer myself, I'd say there's maybe a 2% chance that they saw that fan art and suddenly dropped work on Worlds and scrambled to do a fishing update with a fishing expedition. It's a nice PR story but they likely had already been working on fishing in conjunction with the deep sea content

I seem to remember someone somewhere saying they decided to bump the fishing content up and do it as a more focused and dedicated thing, it was already in the works, they just wanted it to be more and likely also to afford more time for worlds part 2

yeah... my running theory is they realized Worlds Pt 2 was taking longer than expected (hence the date changes we saw) and decided to split off the fishing into its own thing as a way to fill the gap while the rest of the team worked on getting Pt 2 done

but I do think that's the most likely scenario, a combination of like hey we should do a fun fishing focused thing and make it really robust and fun, AND buy us a liiiittle more time for worlds part 2
