That's the thing, the engine's development is tied deeply to the needs of HG's games themselves which makes it very volatile. Not great for outsourcing anyway under those circumstances

Prerelease tech-dives into their engine code are very interesting and go into a lot of depth about this. A lot of it likely doesn't hold up to this day, but the core ideas behind their approaches are there for people to build off on

I haven't seen the version numbers myself so I couldn't confirm, but one person mentioned the last update they have is the one from a few weeks ago (they hadn't checked the number back then), and the person who downloaded the update right now mentioned that they hadnt booted up NMS on their Xbox in a couple of weeks too (and also mentioned that the patch notes still showed Worlds Part I & no new expedition items)
