While I like the idea, I personally don't think level 1 is strict enough - it's dead simple to get to, and the main reason that restriction is in place is to prevent post spam of a less, erhm, appropriate nature.

@simple marlin I understand the frustrations aired in your suggestion, however, the #archived-old-serious channel was added as an outlet for discussion of more serious topics (political, social, etc.) without clogging up #off-topic-bond-james-bond with stuff that some people might find disturbing (e.g. Mass Shootings, Bombs going off, news of sex trafficking, etc.) and it's a place where we allow users of a certain rank (Determined+) to discuss their political opinions freely. There's certainly going to be strong opinions, but nobody there is held to their opinions, and it allows for progressive growth via discussion of these topics, and when a topic gets too heated or two (or more) people of differing opinions start being uncivil towards one another, we shut down the conversation. Please understand that in no way are the political beliefs expressed in that channel, by myself and others, an expression of the server's stance towards certain topics, and everyone is free to express their own opinions on serious topics.

That said, if you do not wish to see discussion from the #archived-old-serious you can opt to 'Mute' the channel, and then 'Hide Muted Channels' and unless someone pings you in there (which shouldn't happen) you'll not have to worry about seeing opinions that could potentially be aggravating to you. This does not impact rules for the remainder of the channels, where political discussion is still off-limits. Hope this helps assuage your worries.

i'm just saying you should be extremely careful of what you're saying, one persons opinion is definitely not respective of the server but when you are saying outrageous things such as "Ken Kratz is a sack of monkey !!! covered in dog !!!!, thrown into a cesspool of rat foetus", it's going to make a lot of people doubt your competence. for me seeing a mod say that would seriously make me disregard their opinion, political or not, in a #archived-old-serious channel or not, if they can say those things about a politician publicly, what's stopping them from saying this about me or anyone else's

I know where you're coming from, but if it helps, Ken Kratz isn't a politician. He was the former DA of Calumet County Wisconsin, that helped to wrongly imprison Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey, and still continues to interfere in their process, despite being retired after being relieved of his duty as a DA for sexting a vulnerable domestic abuse victim 🙂

But if Former Staff isn’t considered an “achievement” here then other cosmetic role colours eg No Mans Guy, ARG Expert etc should be colourless too.

Committing time to the server is and should be a recognised “achievement”. To make it colourless seems a bit pointless when other “achievements” remain cosmetic.

Probably. It doesn’t matter too much; it’s just a colour. 🤷 But because it’s just a colour it seems like a bit of a senseless decision - and the same logic hasn’t been applied across all roles. Which makes it feel more personal that the intention might have been.

There was definitely nothing personal about it, some Former Staff in the past have expressed that they don't like being labelled as "Well I used to be a Moderator" , but we didn't want to take the distinguishment away altogether, which is why we chose to keep the role hoisted but remove the colour, because currently we believe that the achievements such as "No Man's Guy" , "ARG Experts" , and "Legend" are more prestigious than your previous role as a staff member, and we felt that those achievements should be the first thing people see rather than "No longer a Staff member."

Because you might have a Former Staff member who is No Man's Guy, and a Former Staff member whose next highest role is "Familiar" but seeing those people on the same level of "Prestige" at first glance seems wrong.

In my opinion, “helped to grow the community” is a much better accolade than legend which means “have typed a lot”.

But it’s just my opinion.

I disagree, in the case of Legend it means you're an extremely dedicated member of the server, perhaps in some ways more dedicated than certain staff members, the same is to be said (to a higher degree) of No Man's Guy, and ARG Expert is just as important of a role should Waking Titan return for a 3rd season.

@soft birch Granted, not "many." I think I've seen 6-7 here talking about PS4 1.0 and after it would be mentioned on relevant subreddits, more folks would come -- but not a great many, true.

I do think it causes some confusion when it's being discussed in n-m-s and there are new players present

#

And I don't recall how this or that worked back in the day and am sure others don't - so a focused area would be helpful to those doing so.

I wasn't suggesting that (this time), just rename the channel back to how it was before, as having to read the description of each channel isn't great, many people don't read descriptions at all, and I think it may be non-obvious how to on mobile?

For us to become a verified server, Hello Games would need to take ownership of the server which is not something they have planned right now. They trust us mods and admins enough to claim us as their main Discord server but this is the extent of it, we are unofficially official.
