I’m a newbie to NMS, just made it to the Space Anomaly, about 7 hrs played. Any tips and tricks would be helpful.

Particularly curious about when and what to upgrade, when freighters come in to play and when I should pull the trigger on new ships if that makes any sense.

Help me with good mode ships? [Question]

So a buddy and I are trying to do the “god mode” ship glitch, we get the organic parts to appear in the mechanical ship just fine. We install the mechanical parts go around have our fun being super fast and powerful, save our game for the night and all is fine we have fully decked out “god mode” ships. Get on the next day and all the mechanical parts are gone and we have to reinstall them. Happens every single time. Any tips? Thank you in advance

Base salvage capsule [Question]

I for the life of me can’t access this item. I’ve gotten to point of having science and warfare terminals and have tried to close down 2 earlier bases. I ended up just tearing everything down and moving it all. The build menu doesn’t show this item in any of the technology items. My understanding was that it showed up very early but haven’t seen it anywhere. Hope someone can tell me what I’m doing wrong. Thanks!

Creative vs Normal? [Question]

I bought the game when it first came out and loved it, but, played for a couple months and then gave up for other priorities. Quicksilver farming [Question]

I've gotten messages on PS5 several times today: "your data was restored due to corruption" and 1 "your data could not be synced due to corruption". I can still play but am I screwed here? Never had this happen before. I do have a few offline saves; most recent from a few days ago... [Discussion]

Not sure if i should make a new offline save, restore my last offline save, or wait and see if it all blows up. My main is 1300+ hours several other saves i don't want to lose (which is why I've been backing up offline, tho I haven't restored from that to know if that's really OK as well). Anyone been through this? thoughts? thanks

I have an obsession and I need help. [Question]

I have a burning desire to put a Minotaur station on my freighter and take it spacewalking.

u/Dry-Yesterday-651 showed us that it can be done, but for the life of me I can't get the build camera to range far enough to copy parts from my orbital station to my freighter.

u/Gamester997 demonstrated that the game can be hacked to build any parts on a freighter, but the linked article in the comments is from 2016 and the instructions don't seem to work now.

It seems like there should be a simple solution, doesn't it? Is it too much to ask to stomp around on my freighter hull, jumpjet around an asteroid field, freefall from orbit to a planet surface?

I may have a problem. I need help.

How ship customization could work without interference with ship hunters [Suggestion]

I know, I know, everyone is tired about hearing about ship customization, probably the most requested thing here. But I have a quick fix to end this long old debate

Scrap ships.

Has completely randomized stats, but usually Low end and never better than an exotic (although you can get lucky and get a good one)

You can build and paint these ships freely, but the parts definitely look recycled and aged a bit

Complete new missions at the scrap dealer outpost at the space station to unlock new parts and colors

Missions could have a slight narrative or motive, haven't thought that far yet

Can unlock special parts and colors with tainted meta

Can build these ships on either the new "shipyard building", broken freighters, or "shipyard" building In settlements

These ships would look different compared to the current polished ships, and a good stat version of these scrap ships are hard to come by.

A different approach of this scrapping instead of doing missions could be finding parts at random location that are very specific, like finding a green bent wing with end highlights and orange decal type specific, which you can now use.

These parts would be in the same place for every player so sharing these coords can become a new type of ship hunting

I like this approach because it kind of creates collectibles

Settlement on Starter Planet?! [Question]

I finally got a PS5 and decided to give this game another play through after many years off. Wow! I am blown away how far this game has come!

To my question… I accidentally stumbled into one of the new settlements on my starter planet shortly after repairing my ship. I figured this was normal progression. However, given the difficulty of taking out the attacking sentinels with my mining laser, not having even completed my own base yet, and the research I did online, I feel I have stumbled on to it too early. Is it worth continuing to invest in, or should I focus on other secondary objectives first?

Activated Indium Mineral Extractor NOT Extracting [Question]

After finally completing ALL of the prep it took to set up an activated indium mineral extractor farm in No Mans Sky, I ran into a very frustrating problem. I have multiple electromagnetic generators wired into 8 mineral extractors; Both on their respective hotspots. When viewing the status after the set up, the extractors appear to be online and running. What i can’t figure out is why a single AI has not been mined at all. the extractors are moving and are definitely online. If anyone knows why each of my extractors storages is still 0/250 i would really appreciate the help.

do you start over each time you come back after a break? [Question]

I mean this is my third restart with two 200 hour saves which i started again too. Each time i best the storyline and am like: "now i can finally start playing this game and do what i want"

Then i take a break and e few months later i come back to that game not knowing what I was doing and why. So i start over.

What do you people do in these cases? Just contineu the old save and hope you didn't forgot about some important game mechanics? Or also start over.

After so long, my friend can now play No Man's Sky and he loves it. [Discussion]

A while back, I introduced him to No Man's Sky, I told him he would enjoy it, especially together.

He loaded into his first planet, got used to the controls, repaired his ship with slight aid from me and took off into the stars. However, when asked to build a base computer, the game would never register him doing it though. His progress was soft locked.

I told him to start a new save and see if that works, I also posted on this subreddit asking for help. He tried again, no luck. Both him and me were disappointed, he got off. I didn't say nothing, and No Man's Sky was left unplayed for a while.

Until last week. I hopped back on played for a while and enjoyed myself. I was hooked on it again. I asked him to play one more time. He was obviously cautious because his only experience is a game breaking bug.

He attempted to join me with an older save, pre Frontiers Update, but the game prevented him. I told him he might be able to progress now because of it.

He spawned, did his repairs, and took off towards a cold, winter planet. I warped to his system and landed beside him. He got to the point of making a base computer and it worked.

He was excited and I was glad. He immediately celebrated by building a large timber base as one of the flora on the planet gives you around 500 carbon when harvested.

So, any tips I can give him? Anything that could be useful? I'm not too far into the game, I think, I haven't reached the first black hole I directed to go towards and I am just now infiltrating Korvax facilities as directed by Apollo.

Infinite black screen HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 [Question]

I open the game in xBox app and I see the developers game. Then instead of the main menu I see an infinite black screen I tried everything deleted the game and dowloaded it again and all the ways that google had to offer me I dont know it is the games issue or game passes but I can not just play the game. Can no longer turn in the items from Derelict Freighters [Question]

Hey all. Don't know what happened, but now I'm no longer able to turn in the two items (Log and something else) to the system space stations. After I leave the freighter, the quest now just disappears and neither the scrap vendor nor guild member will give me an option to turn the items in.

I'll definetly be submitting this to Zen Desk later, but I'm just hoping someone else has found a work around / had this trouble before.

Nothing I do seems to work. Reloading, ect.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated! thanks again!

Me and my friend found a very weird glitch when purchasing ships in a party. [Bug]

We were both in a space station. An S class exotic spawned. I recommended he purchase said exotic, to sell it. He bought it (and did not sell it yet) then, an exotic ship which was the same exact model actually spawned in the space station again. So I bought that one. I then sold the extoic, while my friend did not sell the extoic he just purchased yet. Here's where the glitches come in.

The game then thought that he owned both exotics. (Probably because they were the same model) Then, when he finally sold the exotic, he got the goods for two ships (as if he sold both exotics)

Then, the first exotic (the one that he bought and sold) was still in the space station, and allowed me to get inside of it. I got inside of it, which was a very big mistake. If I had more experience with exploits, I wouldn't have done that. At that point, getting inside the exotic confused my game file, and my fully upgraded fighter that I've had as my favorite ship for a very long time, was replaced with the extoic.

My friends path was less clear, but he said he lost every ship from his inventory except one.

We're not really salty though, we went down a loop that's just very difficult to explain.

How long does it take to really feel like you 'get it' [Discussion]

I've got 45 hours into the game, a small base on a paradise moon. I still have just one ship, one multitool, and got my first exocraft a few hours back.

I feel like I don't get the depth of the game quite yet. I think I spend more time just wandering and mining than I need to. I've only warped to 6 or 7 galaxies.

How long did it take for you to feel like you've figured it out, and decided what you actually wanted to to?

Noob question - how does multi-player work? [Question]

I'm about 40hrs in and having lots of fun. I'm just realizing how big the NMS universe is.

If the location of a planet is shared and we all go to that planet, are we on the actual same in-game planet? Is it possible for us to build a huge city with tons of players close together? If I build a giant monument, could it be found by other random players?

Just trying to wrap my head around this. It just dawned on me that I really am the first to step foot on some planets, lol. I understand how the universe works in general. I just don't understand how/if we're interacting with other players.

An Update I Wanna See [Suggestion]

There are a bajillion different systems in this game, all with their own unique quirks. My favorite are the 'Uncharted' ones - those that are void of any Gek, Korvax or Vykeen influence. It truly feels like I am finding something so rare!

I want the ability to colonize those systems. I want to build my own space station, populate it with one of the 3 races (or even have it full of random NPCs, like the Anomaly). I could create my own trade routes, connect with other stations to create an economy... the possibilities are endless!

Everyone has their preferred method to farm and make unlimited cash, but what good does it do to just hold onto the millions of units? Why not make it possible to buy/build a station and start your own business? It wouldn't be cheap, of course, but it would be pretty f'in sweet!

What do you all think?

Broken farms and AI harvesters [Bug]

I recently got this game and dumped like 80 hours into it over a week. I built a pretty large farm with multiple biodomes dedicated to every plant and then built my own 600m/day AI farm.

All of a sudden when I logged on its like everything just broke. My farms have the crops that are still grown, but if I harvest any of them they do not grow back (all have the infinity symbol when looking through the scanner). I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the wire and it didn't resolve it. If I delete a plant and replant it, that one will start growing, but I am not about to go replant ~600 crops.

Went to check on my AI farm and all 10 floors have 0 stored AI (5 extractors/floor, 60 silos/floor, all floors are independent systems and it worked the first 2 days, power is ~3000/hr supplied so it should be fine), but the extractors are still running, they just say there isn't enough storage. I disconnected and reconnected a pipe on each floor and that seemed to reactivate it if I stay on that world, but the second I teleported off planet it broke again.

All my short range teleporters broke also and no longer go to where they should be linked to, despite the teleporter cables still looking correct.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

I looked online and the most logical thing I could come to from other people was that it is due to a time desync. Some people reported this after they changed their system clock. I didn't manually change my clock, but its possible something changed in a Windows update.

Quite frustrating to have the game just give a giant middle finger like this...

Orbital base causing crashes? [Question]

So I’m building an orbital base and it’s causing major crashes. Like I can’t play for more than a couple seconds before it crashes, unless I hop in my ship and fly away. I’ve not even started to actually build it yet, still building walls up there. Anybody else experienced this?

I really want to get into this game... tips? [Question]

There have been a few times that I've started from scratch in NMS, and while I absolutely love the premise of the game and it ticks a lot of boxes for a game I should definitely enjoy, for some reason I find myself getting bored after the first few hours and end up uninstalling, only to find myself wanting to try again a few months later.

Things I love about it:

  • It's space-related. I love sci-fi and space-related everything.

  • There's actually variety (I'm a huge fan of (pre-Odyssey) Elite Dangerous, so the fact that there is such a wide range of plants and animals in NMS is exciting to me.

  • The sense of progression. This is something I loved about Elite. That feeling of working towards a better ship, setting personal goals to upgrade items or to get to a certain place, etc. I think NMS could scratch that itch I've been having since I left Elite. I also got a bit into Stardew Valley and enjoyed the progression of building up a farm. I'm hoping that the eventual base building gives me that feeling (once I get past the basics).

  • Multiplayer - I don't know anyone who plays, but I think if I get more into it I can convince some people.

  • Exploration (?). Admittedly I didn't get a good grasp on the game to understand what the scale is like. I had a hard time getting through the tutorials for base building and such and started losing interest for some reason.

  • VR compatibility. I loved that about Elite, too. Depending on my mood I can chill on the couch and play, or I can get immersed in VR (though I've heard recent complaints about NMS VR for some reason).

  • The fact that this game has a lot of the pros of Elite Dangerous and is actually run by a company who cares about it's player base. This is the kind of game and company I want to support.

  • Persistent universe.

  • Probably more, but I haven't played in a while.

Well, did it. All the things. 100% complete. There's now .5% of players that have the Live Forever achievement. Just last week it was .11% I think since you just have to do Artemis you can get the badge without actually travelling far it's a lot easier. Now I guess I'll get to building auto irised doorways to space on my freighter.

Roamer geobay spawned permanent unusable roamer. [Bug]

As the title states, after I built my roamer geobay, it spawned two separate roamers at the same time, both with the same paint job I had just given, but only one useable. Even when I delete the geobay, the unusable roamer just stays floating there. I even tried ramming it out with my actual roamer and it is completely permanent in that spot. It happened last night and I was hoping that when I loaded today it would be gone. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Any suggestions? I'm on PS4. Thanks!

Why do most uncharted systems have red stars? [Discussion]

Green and blue star systems have a small chance (%40) of being uncharted (according to the wiki). However, red star systems have a 94% chance of being uncharted. That means that not only are most uncharted systems red, but almost all red stars are uncharted.

But why?

Cadmium drives (the hyperdrive upgrade needed to travel to red stars) are the first upgrade you can build, and clearly the other three civilizations are capable of building them because green and blue star systems are all mostly populated with gek/korvax/vykeen. So what's the deal with that?

If there's no lore reason why red star systems should be mostly uncharted, I think it would make sense to make cadmium drives the final hyperdrive upgrade instead of the first (so it could go emeril>iridium>cadmium). Hello Games would have to change in which star systems their respective chromatic metals generated in, but I think it would still be a better solution than changing most blue stars into uncharted systems (since people playing in those systems might not appreciate it).

My reasoning being that the hyperdrive requirements would basically act as a big filter that would logically allow fewer and fewer explorers from each interstellar civilizations to trickle into them. It would even be great if (assuming the upgrade path went yellow>green>blue>red) if each successive star type had an increasing percentage for uncharted systems. So 0% for yellow stars, 20% for green, 50% for blue, and 90% for red.

At any rate, I just find the current implementation a little bit annoying, because there's not a clear reason for it to be the way that it is. This may also be a little bit controversial, but I think that traveling to colored star systems should have some kind of extra cost associated with them. Maybe something as simple as each one requiring more warp cells to get to, or maybe there's a chance the...

The cosmology of No Man's Sky (SPOILERS) [Spoiler]

I'm going to be talking about the structure of the universe in the game, which requires me to talk about lore and story spoilers. SPOILER WARNING

Lets take for granted for a moment that the universe of No Man's Sky is revealed in the game to be an enormous simulation, one of many, which is made manifest and perpetually observed by the Atlas. The benefit of us knowing that the universe is intended by the developers to be an artifice allows us to interpret things otherwise excused as the limitations of game mechanics as potential lore. Take for example star systems themselves.

In-game solar systems exist in a sort of bubble from which you can't fly into or out of. The only loading screens in the game besides the one used to boot it up are the ones used to essentially teleport between star systems (time to load is not dependent on distance traveled). Furthermore, planets do not actually orbit their stars. Planets exist in a sort of loose atomic cluster type of configuration, with the star orbiting all of them. This is easily observed in game, and of course it's not how it works in real life but it makes a certain amount of sense when you remember that the universe of No Man's Sky is basically a garden for the Atlas.

There is no such thing as a goldilocks zone because every planet is in the goldilocks zone, every planet has life including the so-called lifeless planets, and every planet has similar repitions of the same kinds of life on them. If you assume the intent is to grow and study life, then each star system is basically it's own iteration of the same experiment, with slight variations repeated into the size of a galaxy.

Now lets assume that our inability to leave stellar/planetary space is actually representational of the structure of the universe in No Man's Sky (instead of a limitation of videogames and design). That would mean that deep space simply does...

You can also drop a quick tip!

Tip #1: Always try to be doing multiple things. Pick up the portable refiner so you can refine something from your inventory while exploring and mining.

Tip #2: Avoid multiplayer until unlocking the anomaly, can be stranded if not.

Tip #3: Exotic worlds only have 1 fauna so it's easy to scan all of them.

Tip #4: Need glyphs? All 16 are on one planet here

Q- "I was on the Anomaly and a bunch of expensive stuff showed up in my inventory. What do I do with it? A:" Congrats! Another player has bestowed you with a gift. Most likely it is an item to sell for some quick and easy cash. Usually the item description will tell you what it is used for.

Q: "Help, I claimed a broken ship and now I can't find my starter ship! Is it gone forever?" A:" If you merely selected to "claim" the broken ship and not "swap" it, then your old ship is still around. If you left it with launch fuel in the tank, you can summon it with the quick-menu. If it does not have fuel, it can be summoned on the Anomaly (once you unlock it), your freighter (once you acquire one).

Q- "Are crashed ships worth repairing?" A-" Unless it is an exotic, no. Scrap the ship at the space station, sell the items it gives you,...

Ship re-spawning in stations [Question]

I just missed a ship I would have liked to buy at a station last night. I'm back at the same station though I've saved and reloaded since I saw it. Would I be correct in thinking that ships respawn in the same station if you wait?

Switches do not work? [Question]

Can someone help me understand this?! I was thinking of a way to BOOST POWER at night for planets with just mineral deposits (no power/gas) automatically via a Switch by a means of a solar panel triggering the transition! (After 248hrs into the game you get creative lol)

BUT!! It doesn't do anything! So I hooked up a manual switch instead, & that doesn't work either! Just toggles on-off after a second! lol

This means that the developers haven't given us FULL Creative range to use these switches unless they thought of it first.. which kinda destroys the freedom behind creativity in the first place lol

My S class micro fighter [Screenshot]

I named her "Yellowjacket" and she can move and sting like one. Stops and reverses and spins on a dime. Nothing can touch her. Has the full compliment of S class weapons and maxed storage. She started out as a C-class. I spent the time, money and nanites making her the deadliest ship in the skies.

Stuck behind the quicksilver counter [Question]

I went afk in the anomaly for maybe 2 hours and when I came back I was glitched em behind the quicksilver counter. While AFK I was gifted 250,000,000 units in goods but I don’t think I can do anything about it now. I can’t leave behind this counter. Does anyone know how to get out?

Isdoraijung vs Eissentam [Question]

I've heard Isdoraijung has even more lush worlds than Eissentam. If you've been there, have you found that to be the case? I've been on a quest to find my perfect world and after going to over 200 star systems, I still haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. I want a paradise planet with bubbles, no storms, bio-luminescence, blue water, no red or yellow grass/trees/sky. Specific, I know, but it has to be out there. Before I make 9 galaxy jumps, I wanted to see if anyone could tell me if I would have more luck in Isdoraijung, or should I just stick to Eissentam?

There is probably an obvious answer for this, but why arent there any truly earth like planets with multiple biomes? Would making them just 1 in a million like earth ruin the game? Or is it just impossible for the developers to pull that off for whatever reason?

A bug no one else seems to have come across? [Bug]

I have been trying to complete the Base Computer Archives quest for days now, but every time I visit a remote archive terminal it takes me to the derelict base to search the terminal then sets a countdown for 6 hours to wait for additional data to be restored.

I do have several base computers in different locations so I can quickly teleport to places such as colossal archives, but I have used the teleporter to get to the required one for the quest each time.

I have tried doing it then waiting whilst playing. I have tried doing it, waiting in the same system then logging off for the 6 hours. I have tried jumping through a black hole to see if it takes me far enough away to reset the quest... but it just keeps seems to keep repeating the same thing over and over and I am now on about the 6th repeat of this part of the quest.

I am on PS5 updated from a PS4 game.

HELP! [Bug]

so my "fuel source" for my main mission was inside the ground, and I couldn't get to it. it seemed like it was inside the volcano, so I tried to jump in, and now I'm in a endless death loop, every time I spawn it it says "extreme heat damage detected" and kills me within 5 seconds. is there any way to fix this, or should I restart the entire game?

I've made it my job to perfect crashed ship hunting and I wanted to share a tip or two along the way [Information]

Greetings all!

I tried to make this quick, but I got carried away. I'm sure I'm not the only one to figure this out, but I thought I'd offer some help for anyone curious.

Step 1: Collect Navigational Data. These can be found in several places but the most reliable are the blue and orange holo-cubes that are on random desks in space stations. Another reliable source is the navigation / save towers you find next to most buildings on planets.

Step 2: Go to the space station and find the cartographer. They will be at a desk next to the portal in the space station. Hover over the charts they offer and look for "distress signal" in the description. Buy as many as you can.

Step 3: This is where you roll the dice until you find a crashed ship and then you hit a crashed ship every roll after. Leave the space station and consume the distress signal charts you bought from the cartographer. Ignore everything except for scans that reveal Distress Beacons or Distress Signals. Results to ignore would be abandoned buildings, freighter crash, etc.

Note: Sometimes you get unlucky and find a lifeform next to the crashed ship. You will not have a chance to claim a crashed ship with a lifeform roaming about. Complete the little side mission from the lifeform to clear that crash from your scan results, head back to space and start scanning again. Also, I have not found a way to narrow results to a specific type or class of crashed ship. Regardless of a system's economy, conflict, or race, crashed ships seem to be randomly generated. I personally find more shuttles than anything else.

Repair tip: Assuming you have your freighter and storage unlocked (that's for another post)... As you gather resources throughout your various missions and exploration, bank the materials in your freighter. Once you find a crashed...

Hello, slightly new to the game. About 30 hours in. How in the world do you find S-Class or Exotics? I've been to a bunch of space stations and still have yet to even see one. Are they at specific systems? Blue, Red, Green?

Game became crap for me (PS4) [Bug]

Anyone else's game gone to doodoo since updating? I came back to the game on PS4 didn't update and it was an update back to when you press up and there was a small UI on the bottom of the screen, then updated it to the most recent version and now parts of my base don't render right, I'll be walking then I'll suddenly fall through floors, the structure will be there to look at but the physics are completely gone, it can take up to 5 minutes to fix itself but as soon as one thing gets fixed a different part of my structure will lose its physics and I'll fall through that, I was on a huge hiatus from the game and took over year off from the game because of burnout, so coming from a more playable version to this is kinda annoying

Silos ressetting to 0 on reload [Question]

Recently i have encountered a problem. On my activated indium farm whenever i reload an auto or manual save my silos reset to 0, my silo refill time is 24 hour and if i reload at 12 hour mark my silos will reset to 24 hour back again and they will be emptied. It just started to happen recently before that it was working fine. I am unable to collect a single unit from my farm now. Before this problem everyday when i logged into the game my silos used to be full and now whenevever i enter the game the silos are all empty and their time reset to max back again that is 24 hour

Any idea what is happening here?

This might be a stupid question because I’m a noob, but, whenever I’m talking to new life forms at space stations and trade centers, I always end up running into recruits for my base that I already have. Is this just something that will always spawn? Or do I need to complete the quest line in that terminal to get them to stop?

My ideas for NMS [Suggestion]

All ideas I have are just changing parameter values of planet generation and other things.How much would it impact NMS performance? - AskI'm not completely sure, but it won't take 30% of the overall performance, ofc.

I know the devs probably won't read it, I just want to show you guys what I think.

1 - Planet atmosphere.

I really feel atmospheres soooo shallow, if the values of the atmosphere generation were changed to be 50% bigger, it would be a major difference, at least to me. It doesn't need to be twice the size of the current ones, just 0.5x bigger.

2 - Farther planets.

I don't know how much the NMS engine can take, and maybe it would be out of question, but if it allows the devs to do this, I would LOVE for the planets to be AT LEAST 50% farther from one another.

This would include moons, Space Stations, etc.

3 - Faster pulse engines.

If the planets are farther away from us, the devs should counter this with faster pulse engines. Making them 20% faster, but also including upgrades to make it go even further, up to 25% faster (using as base the new speed values).

4 - Farther asteroids.

In reality, asteroid belts are composed of a group of very spaced asteroids, and I know we need to balance this kind of things because it is a game and it would become tedious to hunt asteroids, but, at least make them generate a bit more spaced from one another, they...

Blue fighter either alpha or jet style [Question]

How hard is it to find this? I’ve been going to vykeen space station after space station and cannot find one! I tried to portal with a glyph code from the nmscoordinateexchange that had one similar to what I am looking for and after hours of waiting at the space station and trading posts I still did not find a single blue fighter. Does anyone have any tips that might help me find one? I’ve just finished the alpha mission and instead of repairing my ship I’d rather start over with the one I ultimately want to keep. Units and slot size is not a big issue because I have about 16 storage augmentation modules waiting to be used. TIA! Any help is appreciated

Blasting off again! [Discussion]

I haven't played since around Christmas 2020. It's been a crazy year for me and I've been playing mostly games I can put a half hour at a time into after work. I got a PS5 for myself for Christmas this past December (thanks, me!) so I'm going to jump back in and see what's new! I need to continue my mission of building bases in every lush galaxy.

I'm sure relearning the controls will be a comedy of errors.

Trade for void egg? [Question]

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I searched for trade threads but was unsuccessful in finding recent posts. Recently returned to nms after maybe a year off, decided to roll for another living ship. I visited maybe 5 ships declining them, then the void egg disappeared, there's no mission in my log and no egg in any of my storages. Too Crowded [Discussion]

Anyone else miss the days when this game made space feel big and lonely?

I mean, now, every trip between planets is two or three alerts for fugitive starships, a hostile scan and battle, then a trader hailing to sell junk or beg for spaceship parts, and finally given all the size of the system, every fleet managing to warp in right on top of me. I mean every trip...

Modified/Illegal/Counterfeit/Banned/Outlawed Tech [Question]

Main file was deleted of about 90 hours playtime :(

So I'm trying to start out a new main save off of the sandworm expedition save I have. However, there's a lot of Modified/Illegal/Counterfeit/Outlawed tech on my character. Do the bonuses still apply and, if that's the case, is it better to start out a 'new' game from one of these expedition saves?

Couldn't find anywhere online that argues for or against so it might help others down the line

Help. I set my resolution too high and the game crashes on load. [Question]

I was trying to take a screen shot and like an idiot I pushed the limits too far and set my resolution beyond what the computer can handle and now it crashes on loading the save. I can’t find a settings menu other than inside the running game file to change it and I can’t reach that anymore. Is there a file I can edit to set the resolution back to low so I can log in and undo what I did? I am on steam on windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just reached the center of the Galaxy in Permadeath, once I arrived on a new planet, I died due to extreme weather and all my tools being broken and having no means to fix them.

I'm a bit sad about my ships, settlements,colony,etc but that's the point of Permadeath and I died with a feel of accomplishment from reaching the center.

But did I miss something by dying there? I plan on making a new survival save and enjoying it more peacefully this time. I'm just afraid to have miss the real end of my Permadeath save because I died right before it? (or right before the beginning...)

Glyph addresses between normal and permadeath [Question]

Hey there fellow travelers, I've got a quick question for talk in. I recently started a Permadeath save, and of course, I randomly came across the exact explorer I've been looking for in my normal save.

Just found a great way to get ferrite dust [Information]

On dead planets (the low grav moons usually) rusted metal is a resource deposit, and also a hotspot. This means you can put down one of those mineral extractors and get a constant income of rusted metal that refines on a 1:2 ratio into ferrite dust, which is just the best thing in the world if you're trying to build big structures

Died in space [Question]

Sooo i was doing normal pirate things in space, blasting away at freighters and was attacked by abnormally strong defense fighters and my ship was destroyed. But I didn't die yet. I was placed on the outer surface of the space station I was near and my life support systems drained instantly and I died. Now all my stuff is gone. Any way to possibly recover it since I technically died on foot?

Major Disruption!!!!! [Bug]

There is a major disruption ahead of this update.

I cannot cross between galaxies, and the portals are super glitchy: sometimes they work and other times they don't. Presently I am at the last space station in Euclid and have attempted to cross into Hibert several times with various sizes and types of ships with no success.

I dont know what this update is going to be, but it SEEMS like it is going to include something to do with the macro-transportation system of the game with all the problems I am having on the PC platform. If it does or doesnt, I hope that this issue gets resolved quickly.

Just thought I'd let everyone know, in the unlikely event they dont know about this disruption.

New player with a few questions. [Question]

Hey all. Really new player. Only 3 hours in game. Firstly. I found a paradise moon to build my first base on. But it’s all black and white. Which I thought was odd. Googled black and white worlds and didn’t see anything. Is that normal?

Second. I found a building with a computer in it. After I answered the riddle it took me to an A class hauler. Which would be super nice to have at this point in game. But can’t fix most of it up with my current limited inventory. Would it be better to scrap it and keep my starter ship for now?

Is this game, a full game now? [Question]

I keep seeing this group on my homepage, and I always think somebody's talking about a different game. I haven't "interacted" with this game since it came out and everybody discovered how bad it was. But what I see in this group seems like a completely different game. Is the game actually what you would consider a full game now and not just repetitively moving from planet to planet mining, until you get to the middle, and how would it be as a solo experience. I play everything solo.

2 days in to No Mans Sky, I absolutely love the game but I have a huge question that I need help with, also first ever Reddit post, this feed convinced me to make one.

(Preface: I am playing on creative because I'm lame but I've really enjoyed it so far, will switch to Normal soon but!..)

I finally found a frigate/freighter that's absolutely huge and strikingly similar to the Republic Venator Class ship. It's way broader and about as long as my current ship, unfortunately its C class, in creative I don't necessarily mind, but is there any way to upgrade the flagship's class? the S class has a warp range of 3k something and this one is like a couple hundred.

What should I do 😂

Can I travel through the eissentam core, and how? [Question]

Today I got pulled back in and started up my save with about 60h. I’ve got basically everything, but I realised I refused the atlas and I’m about 700k ly from the euclid core, so travelling to it seemed damn near impossible. I also can’t seem to find any black holes so that doesn’t help. But then I realised I somehow have a base in eissentam? I thought there were restrictions on travelling through portals but I guess not? And that base turns out to be <3000ly from the eissentam core, so now I’m curious - can I move on? Will there be anything after? And do I need a hyperdrive capable of the last 3000ly? What I really want is to get to a harsh galaxy since the plan is to build up an outpost in tough conditions.

Wanting expiration rewards to be able to be unlocked always [Discussion]

I dont like the idea of the expedition rewards only being for a limited time. I am a returning player and I played before the first expedition came out and now that I've come back I was excited to get back into the game and see what new quicksilver items have come out only to see that there where limited time rewards that's I missed.

I would like it if hello games added in a way to unlock expired rewards for players who didn't play the expeditions.

Making a Empire [Discussion]

Love no mans sky and love the switch but I can’t help but be worried [Discussion]

Is anybody else worried about the game coming to switch? I love how HG keeps pushing the game forward, but knowing how good of a dev they are, they will want switch included on future updates, which means it will be more limited due to switch limitations. Especially with next gen consoles, I want NMS to keep innovating and adding additional content, and I don’t see that being very easy on the switch.

Idk, to me, adding the game to switch is the first sign of the game reaching the end of its lifecycle which is so sad because it’s my favorite game.

At the very least, I don’t see updates being very big and groundbreaking anymore due to switch being technologically inferior to next gen/current gen.

Just some thoughts/worries

How to increase freighter attack range? [Question]

Hey, new to modding nms, I've been doing fairly well on my own with google but I can't figure out how to extend the range at which a freighter will fire upon a hostile player. I've already managed to extend the laser fire far past where they'll target and shoot, so that's no issue.

Antimater/Housing blueprint - Did I miss it somehow? [Question]

Everything I can find online indicates I was supposed to be directed to a planetary outpost where an alien would give me these blueprints, but this information is a few years old. Did this change? Did I somehow miss the quest for this?

In terms of progression, the most recent thing I've done was to go to the first anomaly after warping to a new star system. I've done some stuff at the anomaly, looked through all the shops where I can purchase blueprints with nanites, and I just don't see these blueprints anywhere.

I went down to the first planet the game told me to go to in this star system and used a signal booster repeatedly until it directed me to a trading post, and I talked with all of the aliens there but none of them offered me any blueprints.

Because of the blueprint I purchased on the Anomaly, I'm kind of stuck in the current main story quest until I can make antimatter. I'm not really sure what to do here.

Thinking about ending a 10 year friendship [Discussion]

Friend of mine is really into space and physics. We went to high school together ten years ago and have remained best friends since. We'd use our lunch periods to walk around and discuss physics topics, we called eachother every week after moving, and we played lots and lots of video games. He's someone that I used to be able to count on to always be there when I needed someone to confide in. The troubles started around 2016 when I got No Man's Sky. I thought wow this game could be pretty cool, if theres ever a multiplayer aspect it would be so much fun to wander around space together looking around for stuff and just exploring the sandbox environment. I got the game and put a few hours to see if it was worth it. Unfortunately, even though I had fun, he didn't have a system that could play it. Game was a little lonely so I deleted it but kept it in the back of my mind. Well earlier today he told me that he found the game on xbox for a fair price and downloaded it, so I redownloaded mine and invited him to my solar system. I gave him some stuff to help set him up and then warped away to another system because it was pretty bland. He tells me that he'd use a warp charge I gave him to join, but forgot that he didn't have that technology yet. It was pretty late so he tells me to log off and I do. 15 minutes later this son of a gun finds 6 storm crystals worth a total of a million dollars in our system. Probably not much in the grand scheme of things, but its about 5-10 times more than what we had combined. I say wow dude thats great but 60% should go to me because I invited him to this system. The bastard has the audacity to counter-offer 1% and to payback the price of the warp fuel. I'm quite distraut right now and feeling very betrayed. How could I have trusted this man for 10 years only to be hoodwinked out of 600,000 credits? I've already told him that I can no longer be...

How come I keep getting randomly rich? [Question]

Yesterday I had a couple of hours on my current new player. Things were going pretty sweet, had me 500,000 units. I was at the space station to sell some stuff and then I saw some stuff in my inventory I didn't quite recognize; five stasis devices. I was pretty surprised to find that they were worth 76 million, so I sold them and bought a nice expensive ship for 13 million.

Now is the following morning and I went to check out the anomoly in a quest. Apparently I got a little egg from god-knows-where which I presume you put in the hatchery. But also in my inventory I discovered... Starship AI Valves? Ok... well as it turns out five of those little suckers are worth 250 million! I'm rich! (yay)

Why am I rich? I'm so confused.

Most recent save file seemingly deleted [Question]

So the other day my internet cut out and I tried to play no mans sky, I chose to play offline. I finished playing then waited for the internet to come back on. A while later I tried to play again and the game reverted to a save from like a year or 2 ago, have I lost my most recent save forever? I haven’t touched it since in fear that if there is a way to recover it, then I don’t want to override that chance by saving the game at a much earlier point. Is there any way I can fix this? Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Bug: Freighter colors. [Bug]

Maybe this has been discussed before but i just want to highlight it anyway.

Please HG. Fix the color bugs. Coloring the ship is cool but the bridge doesn’t change color. I didn’t know about this and didn’t think about looking it up. I just bought two colors so no big loss. But, it kinda sucks anyway.

Also, there is no way to “reset” the colors. Even changing freighter will carry over the selected colors.

As a side note, it would be cool if there was a option to make the whole fleet have the same color that the freighter is set to.

...that gifted me 5 something-or-others that netted me 80,000,000 credits when I went to the exchange. I was able to upgrade to an A class ship, and shortly after, I found my first capital freighter and was just able to afford it. I now have about 10,000,000 left. You made my night. It was a great night for that and also, I had just finally saved enough Quiksilver for the other backpack to go with the armor set I got last month. On a side note, could anyone tell me how to trade/gift/receive items for players at the Anomaly? I see it happen all the time, but this was the first time that I ever got something, and I don't know how I would return the favor/pay it forward to somebody else...

Predictions About the Switch Port Based on What We Know So Far [Information]

There are a few things I've noticed about what we know so far regarding the switch port, and nobody seems to be talking about them.

Firstly, a lot of people have been mentioning that the Switch's lower-spec hardware will hurt the addition of future content, as it would need to run on the switch as well as higher-spec platforms. I don't think that will be the case. In the trailer, it is mentioned that Nintendo Switch Edition (we'll come back to the bold bit later) will have 5 years of free updates. Every update thus far is shown, except for Frontiers. I assume this is because the switch can't deal with the settlement system. I think that the Switch port will receive all incoming cosmetics, expeditions, etc but no large content updates.

And remember how I left the word 'edition' in bold? That's because I predict that the switch version will be a stand-alone game without some content that is included in standard NMS, including crossplay features. When NMS released for the XBox in 2018, it wasn't called XBox Edition, just No Man's Sky. However, this upcoming port is called the Nintendo Switch Edition, leading me to believe the above. Think of it similar to Minecraft Bedrock Edition and Java Edition.

TL;DR: Switch Edition will be separate to standard NMS

Although I personally don't play on switch, I'm really excited for the future of this game :)

Stuck with an Unwanted Settlement [Question]

I may have messed up. I wanted to find a settlement on my paradise planet, but the signal instead came from some nearby planetary snow cone. I wanted to reload but literally just realized that you don’t save the game by simply getting out of your spaceship (I’m still very new to the game) I haven’t been to a manual save point in a couple of days and I received a void egg from some kind stranger yesterday and put hours into collecting stuff for my drives to follow Starbirth. I’m dreading going back to a time before that b/c I have no idea how to go about finding another egg and am not looking forward to having to re-gather all of the materials I did yesterday.

Am I properly screwed? Can I somehow abandon my current settlement mission?

Game breaking glitch in menus [Bug]

So I recently got back into NMS and wanted to make my first creative world where I just do whatever I want. However, any menu I get into that's not my inventory I can't press esc and back out of. What I mean is that if I look at any ships and try to buy them, any multitools I try to buy, any vendor in general, any submenus I go to, I just get stuck in that screen without the ability to back out. PSA: If you run into a derelict with unshootable slime-closed doors, use a scatter blaster [Information]

I'd heard about these but today I ran into one--when you aim at the stretchy slime with a mining laser, the cursor turns into the X'd circle like when you're aiming at something that requires the Advanced Mining Laser when you don't have one, and you can't damage it at all.

The solution: Use the scatter blaster. Aim at the dead center of the door, and keep shooting until you see damage numbers popping up. You might have to try different angles. It will take a while; I just went through ~1200 ammo to open one door. Bring lots of ferrite to make ammo.

But at least it works.

Can you change mech companions features? [Question]

I have two mechanical antelope type companions from a stable-glitch world I dropped a base in.

I know I can change their temperaments as normal, and can change the colors of one (the white one won't take dye), but is there a chance to mutate their eggs within the possibilities of mech-animals?

For instance, can I make them larger? I have one with a "magnet" type back, could I possibly mutate its egg to have a "disk" type back?

Small Glitch on PS4? [Bug]

I'm honestly just curious if anyone else has had this happen

I have two controllers I swap between, but recently I've noticed an issue with one of them that I can't explain. They're both official Sony controllers, but my purple one is just incapable of launching my ship. I can build and do really everything else with R2, but I just can't put my ship into the air with it no matter how long I press. Switch to my black one though? No issues at all.

I recently put a dry lubricant in the space where the right trigger is on my purple controller to stop a squeak and it's got me worried I may have messed it up by doing that, but since everything else in the game works I'm just not sure. Any insight?

Swapping freighter interior [Question]

It is what the title says, I have a B class hammerhead freighter that has the sickest best looking and most functional interior I’ve seen online but I did it on an early game freighter that I bought for 14 mil in my 10th hour. Want to go find one of those S-class motherships so I can get like 10+ more slots and the better looking exterior. I’ve heard though from a year old post you loose all your inside of the old base… is there anyway around this like a new glitch or something a year down the track or do I need to just bite the bullet and either start from fresh or forever live with my current ship?

Firestorm inside my base?? [Screenshot]

I landed on a fire world, looking for phosphorus - which I found. I decided to stick down a prefab in order to get there and back again in case I needed more. A firestorm sprang up. But I was really surprised to see the flames inside the base! It's only 4 cubes wide, plus one cube right in front of me, next to the storage unit. It's on the ground, not up in the air. Still...

Base Building - Move function deletes base rooms [Question]

Giving this game a serious attempt after owning since first launch. I’m playing on PS4 and really been enjoying it now that I kind of understand it.

I’ve discovered base building and it was really an amazing milestone for me. Now that I’m getting a handle on the base layout, the issue I’m having is whenever I want to make a change and move (R2 to move) something, once I place the object (R2 again to build), it deletes the entire room or platform where I placed the object, which pretty much breaks my entire base. Such a bummer. This is consistent with almost every object from solar panels to storage containers and any room or platform I try to edit. Is there a way to revise object placement using the move with R2 function after I’ve initially built an object, or do I have to just stick with my first attempt and avoid using the move function altogether? Hope everyone’s doing well!

I warped to a new system with my freighter. All or a sudden I'm not at my galaxy map at the bridge, but now hopping out of my ship in a new system and all of my inventory is gone. And most of my technology that was installed broke. Did I do something wrong? Lost some 15 hours of inventory.

TLDR: guy gave money and I ruined the game for myself.

I purchased this vessel to another world not knowing what it would do to me. Thanks to this plague I was able to satiate my lust for an exploration survival experience that I so long have yearned for. From dusk until dawn I traveled the stars cozy in my cockpit.

Everything changed the day I entered the Anomaly. After spending all of my very hard earned units on a new starship I was met by A fellow traveller, perhaps upon reflection a demon, Paul3000 approached and waved. I returned the greeting only to be met with the greatest dilemma and my inevitable downfall. Paul3000 gave me enough stasis drives to buy the universe twice. He ran my pockets filling every crevice. Before I could return his gifts he was gone.

A dilemma.

Keep the money?

Destroy the money?

Give it away?

My helmet swirled with ideas.

A gift or a curse?

I parted with one just to see how it felt. Awful. Just terrible. These were mine. All mine. My preciouses. I zoomed to the nearest terminal and hovered over the sell button. Why was I hesitant? The weight of this washed over and before I could open my eyes the deed was done. Fast forward to today and I have all that I could ever want. I now know the feeling that Paul3000 was trying to convey. I will do my part to continue the tradition. I have gifted enough stasis drives to buy Korvax Prime out of extinction. Now I load my permadeath save and begin my journey as a lowly traveler. No fancy freighters. No mega bases. No extravagant starships. Just the openness of the universe. The day I die will be the day that no mans sky comes to an end. All I ask is that if you see me in the Anomaly or simply drifting through the stars, keep your dirty mitts out of my pockets. I’m not strong enough.

What are the requirements to find S class multi tools? [Question]

I have a flourishing galaxy and the multi tool that spawns in the space station is B class. Ive been running around using the signal booster to find places that have other cabinets but no luck now. What I understand is that if i find a C class multi tool anywhere than a S class will not spawn in my galaxy i think? I dont know help me out please

Resource Background Color Meanings [Question]

Everything in your inventory is represented by a card icon. Different elements' cards have their own background colors: oxygen is on a red background, ferrite is on a gray background, etc. Platinum and silver are both have "valuable asteroid mineral" on their cards, but silver's background is the same gray as all the ferrites' (dust, pure, magnetized) while platinum's background is a blue-gray. Dioxite, di-hydrogen, and cobalt each have their own shade of blue. Why? What do these background colors indicate?

What should I do? [Question]

I have been playing NMS for a bit now but keep struggling find reason to progress. So what actually I can do or try to strive for in this game? I could go through all main story, upgrade all equipment and ship, build home. But questions is why, when I look for answers I only find money making guides how to get S tear stuff. Why I need money or best things, what can I do with it or why its even important. If the game is about exploration and travel. I really enjoy the game but can someone help me give myself reason to actually try go progress?

Permadeath update [Discussion]

Well, Im still alive! Ive made it to a second planet, and just finished building a bare bones base/shack. It was touch and go there for a while. Couldnt find oxygen, a storm almost killed me (was literaly less than 5 seconds from death) but I made it to a shelter in time. Explored caves, got some goodies to sell, made over 300k units. Used it all on resources (thats just the way I am). Oh, and I found a class B multitool that was waaaaay better than mine. More updates tomorrow night if you guys want to hear about it.

Can't place standing planters [Bug]

Hello all! I'm having a bit if an issue... I cannot, for the life of me, place standing planters. I can't place them in my bases on planets, I can't place them on my freighter, I can't place them anywhere. It just shows up in it's red silhouette, mocking me. I've tried warping the freighter, saving and reloading, leaving and coming back, but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The farmer, mission signal in system but can’t find it. [Question]

I have the farmer mission signal now on my system but can’t find it, spoke to all npc on the station. I have the agricultural station installed but that maybe is not the same mission? Regarding the quest line I’m at “The first Traveller” quest and just closed up the Artemis story.

Question about building on storm planets? [Question]

I have had an activated copper farm running as of late and I’m a particular bastard about how my structures and bases look. Due to the almost constant blizzards at said location and extreme temps when not storming the farm looked like complete shit. So I had the idea of building a massive warehouse over the depot but have found that even though the game notifies me I am in my base I am still subjected to the harsh realities of my production planet. To make matters worse I got so engrossed in my building last night I forgot to save for a 45min period and the game crashed and I lost a boat load of progress. Silver lining I now have room for improvement. Anyone have any insight on building on these types of planets.

For the record I have about 90 hours of gameplay so I’m not a complete noob here. This is just my first attempt at building a structure in a harsh environment.

No Man's Sky VR: Black edges when I turn my head? (it's not the vignette) [Question]

I finally have NMSVR running at a decent frame rate, except for one thing. When I turn my head, it's like the viewing window is a bit slow to turn with me, so I can see black bars on the side as I turn, until I stop and it catches up.

Every search result I could find seems to attribute this to motion sickness prevention vignetting, but it's not that. The vignette is circular with soft edges. The black bars I'm talking about are straight, jagged/aliased, and stutter-y. They look different and appear at different times.

The frame rate for what's displayed within the viewing window seems stable as I turn. It just seems like the window itself isn't moving quickly enough.

Any ideas for what could I could do to fix it?

Specs: Quest 2 via AirLink, RTX 3080, i7-4770; only mod installed is Clean HUD and Roomscale VR

The strange ranger log to euclid [Discussion]

Okay so to begin, I started this game a year ago, and immedieately was immersed and fell in love with the idea of endless exploration. I've done just about every possible thing, so what is there left to do? Well.....ive made it my personal mission to explore and catalogue every solar system possible, starting from my home planet, paradox 32597. Then working outwords, in a pattern similar to the wheels of a spoke. I recently reached 100 solar systems discovered, and oh boy.....i have seen so so sooooo many things. Some many of you are aware of, and a few creatures in sure only a select few even know of. The idea behind the strange ranger log is to see how many clusters of a particular galaxy one can explore thoroughly, naming a particular planet one has explored with thier mark, (I personally use a planet name, then a code which is my birth date) should Any one here continue to be interested I will make more logs. Let's see what we can discover together!

Settlement in MASSIVE debt - How to handle? [Question]

I’ve been inactive for a long time and recently got back into the game. I’ve been working a lot on my settlement (tons of waiting involved), and currently my productivity is 100K units higher than my maintenance. However because I went so many months without playing, my settlement debt is about 10M and it will take 700 hours to clear it.

Is there any major advantages to clearing the settlement debt? I really don’t want to have to start from scratch, but I also don’t want to wait an entire month for it to fully clear out…

New and hooked [Question]

New to the game, completely hooked already. I’m playing on a PS4 Pro in VR, the immersion makes up for the graphics. I just made it to the anomaly and now I have questions…

How do I interact? I’m using the move controllers, I get waved at and stand there like an idiot.

Can I change my name in-game, or does it just use my Playstation ID?

I must’ve spent 20 minutes just walking around staring at everybody’s starships… What an awesome game!

Spaceships! Best ship for dog-fights? [Discussion]

I'm 50-60hrs in. Still learning but getting the hang of things. To me it's a spaceship game as much as it is an exploration game. I love the ships. Assuming I'm wanting just a late-game (all upgrades affordable) pure fighter for dog fights or pirating support:

Fighter - Is it just that easy and fighters are the clear best ship for dog-fighting?

Hauler - Is a gun-ship hauler a viable choice against a fighter? Does it's shield bonus and capacity for more weapons/upgrades make it actually better?

Exotic - I've seen specs that are close to a fighter/hauler but not quite there. The lower capacity seems like a big downer. Are they better all-rounders but not best for a pure fighter?

I didn't do exhaustive research but I did search for this answer. I'm surprised that this type of question isn't covered more. I'm just learning stuff like how to group upgrades in squares. Please feel free to offer any other advice.

*Also assuming no re-skinning or funny stuff with game files. I have zero problem with that stuff but just talking about playing the game straight and using upgrades available in game for this discussion.

Unable to Launch NMS (PC) [Question]

Recently ran into an issue where I can no longer launch No Man's Sky on Steam. Trying to launch gives me this error message:

I reached out to the link in the message, but got no help, just an auto-response. I have verified game files, uninstalled and reinstalled NMS, Changed the drive that NMS is installed on, updated graphics drivers to latest. I was also able to get this error message from the log file.

How do settlements generally work? [Question]

I'm relatively new to this game since I played about a long time ago and have finally come back. Pc optimisation update in summer [Discussion]

With the switch port around the corner its pretty incredible to see how far No Mans Sky has come since launch.

Being a little excited about the switch port I decided to install my steam account and No Mans Sky on my partners laptop that has vega 8 graphics and 8gb ram. Spoilers: it doesn't run too shabby but it got me thinking, will the new switch port this summer also launch along side a pc performance update or performance mode option? Has anyone else noticed unknown graves are almost always around crashed ships? [Discussion]

I'm a simple scrapgek, and spend most my days hunting, salvaging and selling downed starships. I find traveller's graves, like, 3x more often near a starship crash than I find travellers at outposts or space stations.

Could just be perception bias, but I find most my glyphs by just finding graves near ship crashes, not finding travellers and asking for directions

NMS It would be nice to have a stealth mode and a chase mechanic integrated into the ship dog fights. [Discussion]

Imagine during a sentinel or space pirate ship fight a surviving ship could flee and you the player would need to track them down within a time limit before they could successfully call for backup this could result in them entering the orbit of a planet and then making their way back out or just trying to hide in a nearby asteroid cluster while deploying defensive mines that gravitate towards an enemy players ship this could also be a great opportunity to add stealth mechanics such as tracking beacon that could be shot at an enemy ship which would tell us how close we are to a marked target or how alert they are to our presence hell they could even add a cloaking device so we can try to sneak up on them or the enemy could also be equipped with new defensive ordinances like engine locking stun mines or explosive flash-bang mines, Hellogames could even add new rubble or scrap yards floating around out in space like asteroid cluster so that tracking a fleeing enemy while in stealth mode is sort of a challenge also new types of asteroid clusters with strange Outerspace weather anomalies like slow motion as soon as you enter or a debris field coupled with dense fogg obscuring your sight thus making thermal sight necessary or electrically charged asteroid clusters with exploding asteroids that can slow or knock your ship out of control.

any these just a few ideas sorry for them ramble I'm writing on a tiny laptop.

Odd behavior with the Door Sensors and Short Range Teleporters when logging in last time. [Bug]

Both sensor doors on my primary base, which had been working flawlessly up until now, were shut and not responding. I wound up having to remove all the wiring as well as remove and re-position the inverters to get the doors working again (after re-wiring them of course). I also have two pairs of short range teleporters that were no longer going to the right locations. I removed both teleporter cables and the teleporters were still working as if they were wired but wrong destinations. After re-wiring them, they worked correctly again.

Different visual/ sound effects of weapons/guns? [Question]

Do different multitool types have different sounds or effects when they shoot? Or will the same, for ex., Blaze javelin look the same across every kind of multitool/ technology?

I'm just really curious now since one of my favourite things to do in VR is just randomly shoot the couple I've got while I walk around but they have different modules so I was wondering if there was some cooler gun effects out there.

My favorite ship is one I picked up relatively early in the game. I have no idea what system I originally found it in. Is there a way to find its system of origin without going one by one to every space station I’ve ever been to and checking to see if it eventually shows up?

Competing the Exploration Guide [Question]

I've searched for hours on end but have still ended up with 1 fauna and 2 minerals missing from my database. I know I don't have to complete the guide but it gives me personal satisfaction.

The fauna I'm looking for is uncommon/underground/always active. I've seen another one with the same traits every time I've gone into a cave that has fauna in it, but the one I need has never appeared.

For the minerals, I've checked the craters, caves, the hills, the slightly different hills, and flat ground around buildings and in between the hills, and even in the dense packets of flora. And the different hemispheres. Still can't seem to find them. I'm on a moon if that makes any differences.

Is there any other way to go about this other than blindly searching? Killing the fauna or leaving the cave doesn't change anything either, nor does using an open cave near a building site.

Texture editing help - MBIN extractor/compiler won't work? [Question]

So I tried editing some textures, but just my luck, they're some of the cached textures which you need to edit the cache directories to change.

However, for some reason, the MBIN compiler from Github just will not work. I've tried installing all of the stuff it's asked me to but it just won't do anything. I'm dragging the extracted MBIN files over it and nothing is happening.

Understanding the galaxy map? [Question]

So the galaxy map enables you to travel to different systems right? But for what purpose? I assume different systems have different materials. But I keep hearing about different economies and how certain systems are controlled by certain alien species? Loooool I’m so clueless and still learning. Any tips appreciated. I’m trying to stay off YouTube because I don’t want things spoiled. And I also saw somebody’s base and it made me feel really bad about my hilariously tiny one😂

Hi, l'm a switch player and l recently discovered about no mans sky. I'm really hooked into the game and now even more hyped after finding out no mans sky is coming on the switch this year. However, the switch it notorious for having bad graphics and bad fps.

I'm just wondering if the fps and graphics of no mans sky is too powerful for the switch since l don't want to hype myself for months just to end up disappointed.

Living Ship Portals [Question]

I have scoured Google and Reddit even tried bing to no avail all i've seen is that i'm supposed to finish Artemis's quest (im at the part where after i make my decision and i'm supposed to meet with Apollo, but i've somehow learned zero glyphs. am i glitched somehow? do i need to go even further?? i just want to finish the living ships quest and am stuck on the singularity core part, i do not want to attempt to warp there as it could be thousands of stars away and its literally telling me to input a code for a portal (i have a portal available, i've gotten past the quest called "Leap in the Dark" to the part called "the first traveller") what else do i need to do? im at wits end and don't know what else to do...

How grindy is survival? [Question]

I played the game a few years ago on console and loved it, but it was definitely lacking in challenge.

I'm wanting to jump back in on PC with all the new updates over the years, the new base building stuff all looks very cool, but will I ever be able to reach these levels with the inventory stack caps etc on survival? Will I be able to build a settlement or will it be a constant battle with the grind?

Traveler spawns [Question]

So I got a glyph from a traveler in one station, went to another couple stations and was wondering if a different traveler would spawn back and i could just keep hopping between stations until i had all the glyphs or is it once you meet a traveler in one system no more can spawn there?

Is there a trick to having more than one bio-dome? [Question]

I added a second bio-dome in the underwater portion of my base. Just for growing "quick cash" crops (Sac Venom and Gravatino Balls). They're growing fine but my first bio-dome as well as two hydroponics trays have stopped producing. I've got ample power as I'm planning to do some base expansion. I've also seen people posting massive bio-dome "farms" so, I know it's possible to have more than one bio-dome. Just wondering if this is a bug or I've done something wrong?

Doing something wrong? [Question]

Hello there. Im one of 'those'. A newbie looking for his very own earth. Now, ive followed all the advice i could find, im in Eissentam, looking for yellow stars between 4 and 6. Thing is, i had no success whatsoever. Im over 100 jumps in and i havnt even found a green paradise World, not to speak of weather, athmosphere etc. Do I just have bad luck or am i missing something?

Noob levels? [Discussion]

A comment on a post today got me to thinking, curious the discussion that might transpire.

For me, before I joined / followed / read this subreddit, I had about 200 hours and considered myself a well experienced Traveller. I had been the a handful of galaxy’s, had an S Class ship, and understood (I thought) the game.

After I started reading this I realized I was missing out on so much. I’m sitting around 300 hours and I now have a freighter base, at least one base in 13 galaxies (of 256 I know, but it’s a goal!), an S class of each starship and frigate type, farms, mining operations (including AI and Curious Deposits), I have no need for units or nanites, I’ve gotten all the milestones, and have made it through the galaxy center on permadeath.

I am not sure when I passed through to being “no longer a noob”, and I respect that there is always something to learn, that there are other with WAY more hours / money / experience/ etc, but I also don’t think of myself as an elder or anything like that.

Not that any of this really matters in the grand scheme of things…but like I said - curious if others have thought about this at all.

So I really hate to be that guy… but it’s been a while and I’ve got a ton of questions. [Question]

So it’s been probably 2 years since I’ve really played the game, and I just hit up the official website to read some of the recent updates but the vast amount of changes with every update is honestly a bit overwhelming. I’ve already jumped in and gotten my feet wet, but I feel like I’m going to miss a ton of stuff.

Could anyone just throw me a super quick ELI5 on the newest version of the game? Like, obviously I started over, how do I start lording over some Vy’keen and Gek peasants? Just the basics will be sufficient, I’m cool with stumbling around in the dark with a dying torch.

Night areas of planets* [Question]

So I have seen people discussing how there is an “always sunlight” area of planets. I was wondering if this was true for night time regions as well?

*also I know we can have eggs to make more of one species, does that mean we can release new species onto a planet or just have those offspring as companions?

I have tried so many times to go to direct south and thought I found it for the sun to rise again.

I love the glow mushrooms and grasses at night and want to live in it.

Also!! I found a paradise planet in a galaxy with many that has huge huge huge holes in the ground enough to fly through with water canals all under!! I’ll try to make a post later about it later cause I see people have been talking about that! Eis. Galaxy, however.

How do I find Class S freighters? [Question]

After I found out how to expand the Inventory Space of my living ship, I still had a few spaces missing. So I looked around for a new freighter. I had the longest version of it's kind, and a few weeks ago I finally found a Class S freighter, and even the same type as mine. I immedietly bought it and started expanding the rest of the inventory space of my living ship. But then I realized. It was the smallest version of that freighter. It looks like I had washed it too hot😅. Now I am on the journey to find my ship again. I wish for an S class. I heard there is a way to influence it when finding the right freighter. How to find the right freighter I already have a few good on r/NMSCoordinatesExchange. But how does it work to unfluence the class? Can someone please explain?

Stuck in a glitch [Question]

I entered the glyphs to a farm and when I spawned in I flew to the farm and as soon as I hopped out my game auto saved then crashed because the size of the farm. Now when I load my game it it immediately crashes and my auto save is next to the farm but I can just hop in my ship because my game crashes immediately. What should I do?

Activated Indium Farm? [Question]

Me again. Been getting a better grip of the game thanks to everyone’s feedback and tips.

I’ve been seeing comments about an “Activated Indium Farm”

I know where some indium is, but how exactly do you make a farm?

I’ve seen players state you can make millions upon millions a day with just one.

I’m dreaming of finding an S-class dreadnought capital freighter ship and the prices I’ve seen are crazy high.

I’ve managed to make over 170 million units collecting storm crystals and various other rare items but if this indium farm sounds like what I think it is, I’d prefer the farm over risking my life to gather storm crystals or trekking all over planets to find ancient bones.

Can anyone tell me how I set up an indium farm or if there’s YouTube tutorials on it?

Activated Indium farm tips? [Question]

I know units don’t really progress the game much, but I love buying/scrapping ships and upgrading my ship. Flying around looking for S classes makes me feel like I’m out fishing with my grandpa. That same kind of ease.

I’ve seen a lot about activated indium farms, and wanted to give it a shot. Any tips for a newbie? Any resources I should stock up on before building? Anyway to tell where the good spots are?

Where the heck am I supposed to find the 28 salvaged freighter modules from? Just finding one of the things is a pain in the butt. An idea for an update [Suggestion]

Call me a weirdo for liking 1.0 and all the previous versions that were less content heavy, but I just really liked the aesthetics of what used to be. I was just replaying 1.0 on my old ps4 like I sometimes do with deleting the updates (cant do that on pc with steam now) and realized once again how gorgeous and special it used to be.

My point is… maybe if it were lore friendly and set up so that you could interface with Artemis in a way that you can “see” through its eyes and experience the “simpler” older iterations of the universe. Because I really do think people should be able to experience a No Mans Sky as it was first intended (no basebuilding, just the old core pillars of Survival, Trade, Combat)

Tldr; Sean pls make 1.0 more accessible

Build Blueprints... Feature Request [Suggestion]

I really enjoy building power circuits in NMS. Creating computers and stuff like this makes extremely fun, but there is a little problem... When you build something more complex, it's nice to have modularity and that's nice so far, but it sometimes really gets painful when building the same module over and over again, especially when you try to create it in a way with a clear structure. So my feature request would be

Build Blueprints.

You could build something (whether it's a circuit or a design-build), then go into a scanner mode (maybe from the build menu or an extra tool) and select the parts you want to write on the blueprint. Position and type of the given thing would be saved.

When you want to load it, you can select it in your inventory (or in the build menu/maybe an extra tool) and it would preview it like it previews walls when you're building them. Of course, building the blueprint would require the player to have the needed items in the inventory.

I think this would be a very useful feature in NMS. What do you think?

Are the base-building NPCs still relevant? [Question]

I haven't played the game for a few years, and a lot has changed. I recall in the previous builds I had to build workstations in my base, then hire NPCs, and then do quests for them to unlock new buildings/devices for the base.

Now, it seems that I unlock them using Salvaged Data, either in the Space Anomaly or the basics in that thing I build in the base after starting. There are also blueprints that are unlocked as I do the base-building quest, but those same blueprints can be unlocked manually as well, at least so far.

Thing is, I do meet NPCs every so often that offer to come join my base, but I can't accept them because I don't have the correct stations. Are these stations and NPCs still part of the game? If so, how can I build the stations, and do they unlock anything that I can't unlock manually using Salvaged Data in the Space Anomaly?

(end game spoilers) Question about the Atlas path [Question]

Hello. I have completed the atlas path and went into the structure where you enter each one of the seeds then birth a new galaxy and traveled to it.

My question is: Can I go back to that Atlas structure and birth a different galaxy? I am able to press the buttons on the surrounding structures and they all lift up, then I go to the center and it looks like it is creating a new galaxy, but I can't interact with anything. I can't click the center console or anything behind it.

Is this setup to only let me travel to the initially created galaxy or can you actually create more and go to other ones?

Mining Hotspot Cap Work Around? [Question]

I heard that if I made entirely different systems that my S-class AI Hotspot would not cap out at 5k production, but even when I build entirely separate systems (Power, battery, wiring, storage, piping) all of it linked in only groups of 4 (which appears to be the number before the diminishing returns kick in) and STILL entirely separate Supply Depots are giving shared readings and capping my production per hour.

What is going on? I will literally have 4 miners hooked up to a single storage and have it telling me that there is over 19k storage available and my 4 miners at 75% are putting out the exact same as my miners at 95% concentration. I have the supply depots on alloy platforms does that link them in some way? I can't figure out wtf is going on. Please help I don't want to have wasted my entire day deleting this base twice

I recently upgraded to the PS5 version of NMS and after 200+ hours on normal mode on the PS4 I decided to have my first PS5 playthrough on survival. My void egg dublicated itself. Can I cash it in for another living ship? [Question]

I'm thinking about getting rid of the living ship, as I have a good system going for maintaining my other vessels. I don't use black holes often, and my upgrades don't seem to get damaged anyway if I keep it all in the technology section. Is my game broken, or am I just stupid? [Question]

I posted about Activated indium farms.

I went to a blue star system, found a planet, found a deposit and set up base.

The extractor is placed RIGHT ON TOP of an exposed activated indium deposit, it’s fully powered, has a silo, but it says it does not detect any mineral deposit.

Is my game broken or am I just dumber than I previously thought?

Waste of money [Bug]

I just started NMS and so far it's trash...I'm on PS4 and I have had a frigate wrap into me and I lagged into the side of it..I cant do any storyline missions because it has me stuck searching for noone on the anomaly...when I play with others it doesn't load fast enough to avoid falling into space...

Stuck in last part of living ship quest [Question]

I've been stuck in the last 3 days of the last part of the living ship quest. I get through the portal with the right glyphs sequence and end up on a planet in the Euclid sector. I've dounle and triple check them, i also found other threads with the same "song" from the egg and people got the same glyphs sequence as mine, but once on the other side of the portal, i do not get coordonates from the egg.

I tried doing other missions (from the space station), I've tried taking a black hole to elsewhere in the galaxy, find a new portal and get through it again, but to no avail.

Is this expected? Should I try get to a different planet in the same system? I tried just looking around for abandonned building or use signal finder, but nothing seems to trigger the egg to give me coordinates.

What can i do?

Stumbled onto another players base? [Question]

I have been jumping to different systems like crazy lately and today I had a purple marker show up on a planet “OM mother base” or something. So I go and explore, turns out it’s a base built by another player. Pretty nice one too. Anyways how rare is it to stumble onto another players base unintentionally? If I left them a gift in their storage containers will they be able to retrieve it?

Mechanoceris Breeding Woes [Discussion]

Is anyone here engaged in breeding mechanoceri? I have three different variants I am trying to breed and have noticed some odd behaviors.

There are several guides for what material to use to achieve what color, none have held true for me. This is no big deal. I can randomly reproduce the one I want until it gets a color I am aiming for.

However, size is my real hangup here. Every time I get a message "size increasing" in the sequencer the offspring comes out smaller instead. Is there an inverse for mechanoceri? Will getting a "size decreasing" message actually produce a larger creature?

I am attempting to produce a larger mechanoceris, 1.5m plus. I am Breeding my 1m mechanoceris using materials reportedly shown to change color to purple, and selecting for "size increasing", instead they wind up smaller and with random colors. Once I get the right size, I can randomly cycle color.

Has anyone here engaged in mechanoceris breeding project who might have advice? Anyone else notice quirks with robot animals?

Lost ship [Question]

So… I ventured out to a green star to build my final hyperdrive upgrade… and forgot to fuel up my launch thrusters. Had enough for one last launch, but got lazy and called the ship to the dig site instead of just walking back - so now that ship is stranded. So, big brain me summons another ship to fly up and try summoning my freighter. Well… freighter can’t reach green stars.

Found a thrust fuel pod for the first ship, but now I can’t find it due to exploring to find stuff and trying the other solutions.

What do?

Expanding the base (soft lock) [Bug]

So as the tile says I managed to soft lock my game by destroying the base the where my overseer was. Doing so seems to have made the npc only every be busy when I talk to them. Outside of that it says to use the teleporter to head to the system they are in.

Full quest line so far:

How different are ship classes in no mans sky [Question]

Hi, l'm kind of a beginner to this community and game and l'm just wondering, how different are the ship classes? Is it possible to get though most of the game using only one type or one maxed out/upgraded specific ship for example an all maxed out upgraded S hauler. Or do you need at least one of each ship in different classes just to get by.

Starting settlement from scratch. [Question]

I'm on my second settlement and I'm extremely disappointed with how it turned out. It would only allow me to build single square room buildings and nothing else, but I love the planet and the location of the settlement.

My question is, is I were to claim a new settlement, then go back to my current one to reclaim it (effectively erasing what was already build) would it give me a new set of buildings to construct or are the building options for each settlement predetermined no matter how many times you claim it?
