We have villages now, what do you think about Cities? (also, Factions and Nations) [Question]
With the dawn of Frontiers, finally, the galaxy wasn't so empty or devoid of life. At long last, the different races actually inhabited different towns and settlements instead of just existing in space stations, outposts, and referenced cities.
However, we still have yet to have real and true cities, and I was wondering what Reddit thought about the idea?
I would propose mainly city planets (with the cities being part of world generation rather than separate entities), which would be pretty rare, but also offer some cool places. Nothing too elaborate or fancy, maybe a diner/store here and there, a trading post and aliens walking the street. Smaller scale cities would also be cool too, if city planets aren't feasible.
Also, this brings up the idea of ownership and different factions. I think it would be cool to see hundreds of small, alien nations within the galaxy, none larger than something like five systems max, all squabbling and occasionally fighting each other through basically freighter fleets but militarized. You can associate with some factions, at the risk of being rejected by their rivals. Of course, there would be vast swaths of unclaimed space, to still give NMS that Wild West, outlaw, nobody-but-yourself feel. These factions could have their own economies, could rise and fall, etc. They could claim new territories (very slowly, of course), take on surrounding nations, experience revolt and rebellion, etc.
Factions could pay players to aid and overseer settlements in their space, or to set up a base, etc. It would be ideal if the activity of these factions in a players day-to-day is kept to a minimum, too. Basically, it feels like good ol NMS, but now with a cool new feature.
Just wanted to know what you all thought
