Settlements in theory>Settlements in practice [Discussion]
Settlements should be MY thing. Like, my whole NMS experience once I was done with (most of) the missions was to find great locations, and build. I've built mining sites, hotels , markets, vehicle bays, hospitals, farms, oh the many, many, farms...
But settlements, well they stink.
Besides the obvious, the 3.6 update is STILL bugged, settlements don't provide issues/building options ever, and the crashing, and the building bugs... er, besides all of that, I'm confused as to how it's supposed to work.
Is there a point in the settlement feature in which I can freely build/add base pieces within the settlement location? We can do this now, by building a base computer near enough and so on, but, this "seems"(no word yet on this) to break the settlement from progressing. So, do we ever get to do this without risking the settlement breaking?
Are the settlement buildings supposed to all be crooked? I think the city planner came to work hammered the day they layed out my settlement. Are any of the buildings, at any point, customizable? For instance, if I'd rather have a door there, instead of a wall, could I swap out a portion of my wall for another type that I own? I'd like to do that in my settlement.
At my first settlement, on an unpleasant planet, I built an overseers office only, found a better one and abandoned the first one, but, this bugged my game, so, I started building at settlement 2, like I talked about above, by placing a base computer nearby and building "around" the existing settlement. I had a bit built actually, and decided to run a test. At this settlement, I had not completed any missions, other than building the overseers office because after 4 days of being there, nothing else was ever offered. So I didn't mind to much trying to find ANOTHER settlement, which I did.
I claimed it and now I have a settlement that I am trying...
