PS4 vs PS5 [Question]

I'm currently using a PS4, but I'm finding the newest update of NMS is making my system run really hot. I'm considering that I might need to upgrade to PS5 (when they become available again). Plant Factory for both Fusion Ignitor and Stasis Device - 37 biodomes [Build]

Not pretty nor impressive, also a bit laggy... but that's my best attempt at making a farm for a balanced production of both Stasis Device and Fusion Ignitor :

The small room serves as the entry/exit point, contains all storage containers, one trade terminal, and is covered by 80 solar panels accompanied by 40 batteries. (I really should have settled near a power source...)

After harvesting (with no bonus), it allows the production of exactly 10 Fusion Ignitors and 10 Stasis Devices, an upgraded multi-tool can greatly improve that, in my case, this is an increase of ~60% :

Ended up with 16 LG / 33 CB / 16 LE, instead of expected 10 LG / 20 CB / 10 LE. Allowing for 6 more final products of each with 1 leftover CB. That's worth around 500M units.

+50% from Optical Drill, I guess it adds up to ~60% with adjacency bonus

What kind of settlement decisions are you all getting? [Question]

I don't know if I'm just extraordinarily unlucky, but after dozens of hours of playtime after the update, the only decisions/settler disputes I ever get, neither decision seems to have any effect, and seem to just be flavour.

Do any decisions have an impact on the settlement, or is it just kinda filler content to keep you running back to the office every couple of hours?

Frontiers problem- can’t build overseer office [Question]

Ive supplied the requested 210 silicate multiple times. Each submission starts a countdown for about 90 seconds, but at the end of each countdown I get asked for another bundle of silicate and building progress goes to zero.

Anyone get passed this? How? Thanks in advance

Do we know exactly what determines a derelict freighter's aspects? [Question]

I did my first derelict the other by buying a beacon for 5 million at the station. Left the station, used it, found the derelict and started it. It was one that got infested by acid-spitting bug aliens. Nothing too stressful, the cold was more the problem, but I went through it all and hauled away a bunch of goodies, satisfied.

I then went to the Anomaly and got the free beacon from Helios. After a while doing other things, I decided to use it in the same system as the last one and found what turned out to be the exact same derelict freighter. Well, not the exact same, the name of the ship was different, but everything else was the exact same. The same layout, the same story, the same crew names, the same bug aliens in the exact same spots. Still worthwhile with loot.

I thought the idea was that each freighter was supposed to be unique, with entirely different layouts and stories. So either I got really lucky in having what was the same freighter twice, or there was something that caused the same ship to happen. Was it because I did both beacons in the same system, which means the freighter is determined by the system parameters? Or something else?

Question about seeking out settlements. [Question]

My original settlement spawned on a stormy tornado planet that I'd rather not spend much time on so I wanted to find one somewhere else. My question is: Are some planets unable to spawn settlements? When I triggered the map it directed me to a settlement on a separate planet than where I was. The planet that I was on was not a dead planet, it had other structures spawning just fine.

Also, any settlement I find seem to have been claimed by another player. I assume this is a bug?

I finally got into it only to run into a nearly exact copy of my base planet only 3 jumps away and 13 hours into the game. I quit. Procedural my ass. [Discussion]

I made a post a few days ago about the game not clicking for me, but I persevered and finally got into the groove. Start exploring planets, building bases, etc. Life was good.

So this morning I land on a planet that looks oddly familiar. Glowing pink mushroom vibe with everything else purple and big dagobah trees. Large pure ferrite rocks. Hm.

Suddenly I realize it looks exactly like the planet I built my home base on. Wow. Really? I thought this game was supposed to be procedural and unique to a degree and I'm basically running into copy pasted planets from the get-go.

Well, screw this game. I quit. It's a scam and not worth my time.

PSA: 3.64 may have moved your settlements buildings around [Information]

From the patch notes: Fixed an issue that could cause settlement buildings to spawn within the terrain and become blocked (note: this fix may slightly move some existing settlement buildings).

For me, my settlement was slightly lower than before and several of my buildings had change position. Any decorations placed were now floating above my settlement

Settlement Finances [Question]

I can't figure out how the settlement finances work. I have a settlement making ~ 400k with overhead of ~200K with a debt of about 500K. So it should take about 36 in game hours to pay off, right?

It has been like this for a day (real time) now, and game time is ~ 1 second real time = 1 minute galaxy time. So every 24 minutes in game should be a full day on the planet. It should take about 40 minutes real time to pay off the debt, but it shows 11+ real time to pay it off.

The payoff times seem completely random and the overall debt does not appear to be going down.

Different approach [Discussion]

IMO I think the frontiers update coulda been so much more in depth than what it is. It's a fun activity for a bit but not a prolonged sphere af activity, again IMO. Here's the changes I would have made to make it more immersive.

  1. instead or proc gen settlements give the player a settlement computer ( like the base computer ) so they could build the settlement in their image and liking.

  2. NPCs could fly in at certain growth intervals and inquire about staying. Giving the player choices on who to add and who not to add

  3. the events could randomly pop up after certain population levels or build limits.

  4. not time gating. Once the player has achieved a certain build limit decisions start popping up randomly.

  5. no one race settlements. I mean everywhere else they are together interacting why not settlements?

  6. something more than typical rewards for certain tiers. Is the same stuff we've seen form forever. New rewards entirely.

These are my thoughts curious to see what the community thinks. Safe travels to all

Anyone willing to share glyphs to their activated indium farm so I can get rich quick? Long story short, I lost my 700+ hour save and have just started playing again with friends. Building glitches (HELP PLS!) [Bug]

What do I do for these two glitches -

1: After building a wall or deleting it, an impassable invisible barrier replaces it that I can't walk through. Even after building a door/arch in the previous location I can't pass through.

2: Walls not snapping to the edge (where the rest of the wall is) but instead to the middle of the build.

My settlement is absolutely disappointing [Discussion]

I spent so many materials on it and made several trips for Aronium to make it work...

Today I see my debt was finally fixed, so hungry for rewards I rushed to my office...and saw that my settlement is only producing Star Silk...and Kelp Sac...wow. I mean I could understand Star Silk, but Kelp Sac? I think the last time Kelp Sac was useful to me was back in 2020.

Even basic frigate expeditions with C class ships can yield me way more loot than this...

My “The First Traveller” mission has been bugged for days. I’m supposed to locate Nada’s crashed freighter and the mission marker doesn’t show up. I’ve googled it and YouTube it and the only solution I have seen is to find a different freighter. I found one and that didn’t help so I’m basically stuck. Can I contact support somehow?

Crashing Expedition 3 Series X [Bug]

I'm really trying to give Frontiers a chance, but constant crashes in game and now in Expedition. 2 crashes back to back 2 minutes into the game getting out of the ship. Frontiers was not ready for prime time and the patches don't seem to be helping anything.

I may have found the fastest possible derelict freighter. [Information]

Was exploring around Euclid and found a freighter with NO enemies (except jellies) and no ladders. It's really poor for loot, but if you want a fast way to farm Freighter storage bulkheads, this is the place to do it. As for the tech module in it, it's just an A-grade Frigate fuel efficiency module. Anyway, I thought it was worth sharing. Address is here:

Claimed n repaired crashed ship then it vanished, help? [Question]

New to the game, just found my first crashed ship. Repaired most of it without taking off. Switched to old ship by jumping in it nearby but when I loaded back in today after it updated the claimed ship was gone from the site. I also built a small base near it to teleport to the local station n buy the other stuff need to fully fix it but yeah it's gone. How do I get it back or access a ship catalog or something? Can I not own multiple ships too soon in the game or?... I'm just confused and I annoyed I lost the ship after repairing so much of it.

Advice on starting coop game. [Question]

[I hope this has not been answered before - I did a search and could not find anything]

I have been playing NMS since day one, but never in coop. I tried playing a game with my grandson - and could not connect. This is what happens.

I launch the game and go into multiplayer and start a game from there.

My grandson goes into multiplayer - sees my lobby - clicks on the lobby and nothing happens (other than my lobby disappearing after clicking).

Same in reverse.

Can someone point me to a basic step-by-step guide for playing NMS coop, or give me some troubleshooting tips?

We are both playing the game on Steam/PC.

Started a new file, first time playing the Settlements update. Got lucky in my first star system, looted a good amount of Navigation Data and traded for a Settlement Chart.

Went to the settlement and couldn’t do anything. Couldn’t interact with the locals or apply as the Overseer.

Guessing I will eventually get a tutorial about settlements?

I need your favorite coords [Discussion]

After a much longer grind than I'd like to admit (much longer than I ever thought it would be, truthfully) I have portal bases on the first 30 galaxies. I was just wondering if anyone had any spots to check out. Paradise planets, cool bases, whatever. Anywhere from Euclid to Sudzerbal as of right now, will probably build a few more if the expedition update doesn't hit ps5 before long. I just figured once my tech needed fixing from the first jump I may as well just go through a few more, and ended up at 30 before I was COMPLETELY burnt out on it for a little while.

Frontiers: Activated Indium Farm [Question]

So the other day I looked up how to do an activated indium farm and it said the best way to overcome the 4 extractors diminishing return was to glitch it which was possible in the builder mode since the electrical wiring was side by side with the extractor but now that frontiers is out and they have revamped the building mode, what would you say is the best way to farm this with or without glitches and which?

I've played for almost a year but never got to doing a farm of this sort and now I want to do it.

Just realized significance of 16... [Spoiler]

I've been playing the game less than a month (about 70 hours in) and only have 2 of the portal glyphs. I've been getting very distracted so haven't focused as much on that. However, I see everyone asking for portal coordinates on here and I know there are 16 available. Then I realized 1616 is approximately the stated number of available planets discoverable by the player. (18,446,744,073,709,551,616)

I imagine most have already realized this, but it felt good to use my basic math skills I otherwise never use. There could be more to the number, but I'll just have to wait and see!

Frontiers Update additional wishlist [Discussion]

So I'm sure people have done this type of post before, but I haven't seen one at least since the new update and I'm hoping maybe someone will see this and consider these: You should be able to access your storage units anywhere within range of your base You should be able to construct from items in your storage units your storage units should auto-stack items the way your suit does each storage unit added should expand your storage, not add an individual storage unit (IE it is silly to me that we have to walk down the row and access all these different storage units independently) You should be able to connect a pipeline directly to your storage units from the Supply Depot (or even straight from the extractors) There should be a computer that allows you to access your freighter from your base (storage and missions) There should be an upgraded teleport module that allows you to access your freighter from your base instead of having to fly your ship Maybe it also allows you to teleport to your settlement (which would mean adding a teleport module to your office in the settlement so you can leave without calling your ship) you should be able to have fuel storage in your ship, exocraft, multi-tool, and suit that allows you to store needed fuels/resources in large quantities that don't impact your regular inventory. IE if you build something that takes oxygen in your suit, then an "oxygen" slot opens in your fuel storage tab. your items that require refilling of fuels should have a toggle to auto-refill from the above-mentioned fuel storage columns added to the construction catalog that snap to the corner, center edge, and center of floor panels etc. maybe they also go under the arches in walls so you can do a double or triple height arch that connects to the floor add a construction piece that goes between the "1/2 arch" piece so you can do arches that are wide instead of just one...

Tried Out Frontiers This Morning and I Can't Believe What's Happened!!! [Discussion]

Backstory: I have nearly 400 hours in the game this time around. Back in May, I found a delightful paradise planet, Laceyrin A3. No sentinels. No storms. Animals are friendly. The whole place is lovely. Nearly 100 of my 400 hours have been spent here. Exploring the crap out of the place. Building a dozen or so bases. Rebuilding bases. Creating mining colonies. What surprised me the most was how BUSY the planet is. You can't fly 30 seconds without finding another building. I've found 3 planetary archives so far. Countless ports, observatories, a portal. It really does have everything. I just love it here.

The Story: So, this morning, I finally got a chance to try Frontiers and see if there's a settlement on my little home world. I grabbed a bunch of settlement finders from the station. The first try found one on a another planet. Reloaded my save and tried again. BINGO!!! Found a settlement on the other side of the planet. I go over to it. It looks so COOL!!! I go to claim it...and it's already been claimed by another player. NO!!!!! HOW?! I've been on this planet 4 months and never seen another player in the system! Now there's someone already here?!!! Grrrr!!!

Well, this planet has a lot of everything, so I use another finder and, sure enough, there's a SECOND settlement on the planet! Sweet! I leave a message for the first overseer, welcoming them to the planet and head to the second settlement.

It's ALSO been claimed already! WHAT?!!!!

Again. FOUR MONTHS on this planet. Now there's THREE of us here?! Well, I don't want to be a bad host, so I leave a welcome message. Wondered if I'd maybe get lucky and find a third settlement on the same planet. NO WAY!!! THERE'S A THIRD!!!!

I zip on over. It's SO COOL!! It's on an island in the middle of a huge lake. I get out of my ship and see the settlement is called, "LMAO city." :|...

I really want to start customising my settlement but I’m worried a future update is going to break it somehow. [Discussion]

Do you guys think it’s likely that any customisation we do by placing a base just outside the settlement boundary will somehow be broken in a future update? I was really excited when I saw people customising their settlements after the update but didn’t realise it was only possible using a workaround. I just don’t want to pour hours of work into my settlement only for it all to be broken.

Alone Amidst The Stars - Broken Quest..?? Xbox One S [Question]

I'm stuck on this quest and I think it may be broken. I am at this location and I am supposed to put up a signal Booster Beacon. I have to put up three and this is the third. But, the marker is inside this building and on the map portal. I don't think it has anything to do with the quest other than the beacon being near by. I tried talking to the Gek inside and he telling me nothing related. I activated the map port but it just gives me unrelated location markers. When I place the Booster Beacon, I have no option to "Triangulate" the signal. This is my first time playing this game but I believe this is part of the main story of the game. Any ideas what to do? Did I miss something? Thanks!

Expedition 3 bugs 1 hour after release [Bug]

I experienced these bugs on expedition 3 I will list them below

When you get the free pilgrim exocraft summon you end up summoning the entire lobby’s pilgrims on your pad

When respawing the pilgrim you get the badge for summoning a Minotaur exocraft

Frequent crashes

My companion is able to walk through the world while I have my scanner enabled

I will edit if I encounter any more bugs

Downloaded last night and I'm hooked! [Question]

Man, this game is incredible. Coming from 9 years of path of Exile (a notably complex game) this gems seems just complex enough to warrant excitement instead of frustration.

I have one question. I managed to find a paradise planet to call home. I'm one jump away from finding the anomoly and just farming stuff, perhaps getting another ship before I progress.

The question is, is it prudent to build up my first base, or should I save time and resources to find something else to really focus my building efforts? One of the nice things right now is my planet is abundant in gold so its been giving me plenty of money to build on.

Looking forward to 1k hours!

6 hours on one quest and counting [Discussion]

I got the quest for the nautilus. The closest land mass was an hour away on the water world it sent me to. So I 15 minutes finding that land. Then I had up build a nautilus since I'm not swimming to something that takes an hour by ship to get to. After an hour of getting supplies I start on my 38 minute trip. Get to the crashed ship and I think quest is over. I fix the ship enough to fly and what do I know the second I get far a quest pops up. I now have to go back again to where I found the ship. Another 38 minutes. Then I finally find the spot again and it sends me 45 minutes away to a sunken structure. I'm still in route to the structure.

I love this game but underwater ships that can fly also must be a thing these water worlds are ruthless. Also do people actually same their expedition files and play them because this starting stuff takes forever if you do the quest.

Struggles to get quicksilver for void egg [Question]

On pc im trying to get the quicksilver for a void egg by doing the missions. My problem is my game will crash, loosing the mission progress or i will have to go to the anomoly for something and loose progress. Is there an easier way to get quicksilver? Or a way to get an egg through exploration?

Base saving ... [Discussion :table_flip:]

I love NMS - I was a day one player who understood what Sean was making was ambitious, beautiful and totally unique. I love NMS and always will. However ...

I have quit this game 4 times now because of the very bad base saving bugs that continue to plague the game 5 years in. I spend weeks crafting something special - and one day I log in and its 6 feet underground with no recourse. It's so sad to me because of my actual love for this vision and project.

I'm still playing and love foundations. I know the team is always fixing and improving things. But the poor base-saving bugs break my heart again and again.

Will there ever be a NMS version with reliable base saving?

Hi, I am pioneering the Korvax settlement. I have created a construction unit. I tried to supply materials, but there is no terminal and I can't proceed with the construction. What should I do? Also, this is not really related, but the color of the target sweep lens and the analysis lens are switched.

Expedition and new Patch = Crash CRASH. [Bug]

Tried five times, but the most I managed was to enter and exit my fancy new ship. First time I tried, the whole starting speech was staggering and skipping like a drunken phonograph (which was hilarious, and rather apt with everything broken, and should be permanent.)

I'm on PC, but I did delete my mod folder. (Whoever makes the No Shake and No Blinding Freighter Mods, bless you, they save me from so many visual issues.)

Any ideas?

Will 2021 be the first year without big update? Will we ever get a big update again? [Discussion]

Just want to start a discussion about the possibility we won't get another big update like Next, Beyond or Origins this year, or maybe ever again.

Maybe HG just wants to focus on smaller, more confined updates in a steady pace since the hype cycle and media coverage seems to be close to or the same as the big updates on which they really worked their ass off. As a musician, i can relate to releasing singles and getting close to the same attention an album gets, so why even release an album at once if you can release each song as a single? Maybe thats a stupid comparison but hey.

I think HG/Sean communicated at some point that they're experimenting with the 'format' they release their updates in. Can't find the source atm and i don't think its too important

I don't dare demanding anything, i'm really loving NMS and am really happy they support their game to this very day. Still, quite a few people want features that are bigger in scope.

But dunno, want to hear your opinion.

Bug with The Settlers Mission [Bug]

So I started the Settler's mission, the one that you have to become and overseer of a settlement. The thing is that the marker to that specific settlement drives me to one that has already been claimed by another player. Not only that, I recently found one with a friend and it actually didn't let me take it over while my friend could apply to overseer it. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Settlement vanished [Question]

My settlement vanished. Left it yestarday on my base near it, today by morning, tryied to log in just to put a building to work and go to my work, and, and it was gone... The icon still there, but is a empty/virgin place of land, with the "natural"(?) vegetation back

Tryied to change galaxy, relog, enter the anomaly, in and out the experimental game, a ton of stuff..I am very sad, it was already a lot advanced, no debuffs, and walking towards to be free of debt :(.

I've found some topics about the icon missing, but mine isnt. The log is selected, and it shows me exactly where it is, but no building nearby.

Happened to someone? Someone know what to do? Do i quit this one and give up my dear settlers?

Companion pet will not appear when summoned [Question]

I haven’t played for about a year and returned with this latest update. I registered my first companion pet and flew back to my base but it’s gone and that summon command in the Creatures menu. It makes my Traveller whistle but my pet never appears. Do I need to do something else to get it to appear?

I’ve already tried reloading the game.

Help - Expedition 3 - Any Port In the Storm [Question]

Howdy all,

I'm running into an issue with the "Any Port In the Storm" objective to shelter in a NPC building.

When I use the signal booster it took me to a beacon .. the beacon sends me to a settlement a 19h walk away. Using another beacon I also have a Trade Center ... 9h away.

I did find another beacon in the ocean between the two points, but it just "mapped" the area. I've already completed two additional milestones beyond the one I'm supposed to be doing (time spent outside in storms, distance walked).

Anyone else encounter this? Any solution known? I assume there is supposed to be a shelter fairly near the start that I can use, but I'm not finding it.

Can't cross play form ps5 [Bug]

I play on ps5 all the time, my buddy is on steam. right now my ps5 says my game is up to date, and so is his in steam, however when we try to play together we get "version mismatch" on the title screen it seems like my ps5 version is behind, in the bottom right it says 77693 while his in steam says 77796.

When i click on "check for updates" on my ps5 it says my game is fully updates. Not sure what to do here.

Unable to play new Expedition [Question]

It is currently 9/8 12:50 EST here and I sat down to play the new expedition. Upon loading the game, it says “Expedition Complete” when I try to create a new save. It did this with expedition 2. I played expedition 1 perfectly fine. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the game. Any tips? I just want to play the new content!

Combat focused quarantine planets [Suggestion]

I think it would be interesting to have certain planets be lethal combat focused planets, with extremely hostile animals and limited ship travel.

They could have specific landing pads and then further exploring would need to be done on foot or in exocraft.

The terrain manipulator is disabled, and you have to explore knowing that you will be attacked by hostile life forms on those planets.

They could have rewards that are unique to those planets like shields, armor and weapons.

Every settlement is taken? [Discussion]

So when i went to bed the other night i woke up to someone else throwing a base down on my settlement. i am not able to build anything on my settlement and when i look for a new one, they are all already owned by other players. How to manage aggressive sentinels? [Question]

My group finally found the perfect planet, well almost perfect… besides the angry floating robots. Should we move on or is there a way to manage them? We’re near the core and have found no issue finding undiscovered paradise planets, just not green planets with blue oceans and blue skies like this one.

Base building bugs. [Question]

I can walk through all of the walls on my base, it doesn't seem to matter where I build. I've restarted the game to see if maybe that would help, to no relief.

Also, it seems as though the superheated rains on the planet I made my home pass straight through the roof and start boiling my skin.

Does anybody out there know how to fix this? It's seriously annoying.

I'm really upset. [Bug]

I'm playing expedition and everytime I get to my base to save it crashes. I just want to play a game with out crashing every 2 minutes. Is that so hard to ask of for a game development company? This really needs to be fixed not only in NMS but in other games to. Probably gonna go do something else for a bit.

Hey fellow travelers, I want to join the expedition but when I'm trying to make a new save (have only one normal save so far) it wouldn't let me.

The expedition option has a ribbon on top saying "expedition complete". What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Bugged base up in the atmosphere [Question]

I was inspired by that space station in the anomaly and was chaining base computers up into the atmosphere to build my own and after the 4th one my game crashed and now whenever I visit that base the computer is missing (I still see the icon) and so is any of the stuff I put down before the crash including a save terminal that is annoyingly now preventing me from dropping another in the area.

Whenever I teleport there anything I’ve built will be gone and I’ll start dropping unless I jet pack to my ship which is just floating midair.

Is there an height upper limit for base placement? Is there anyway to unglitch it or am I just stuck with a phantom base in my teleport list now? I can’t even delete it which is pretty annoying.

XBOX Series X - Expedition 3 showing Downloading Data [Discussion]

Like the title says - starting a new save, Expedition shows Downloading Data.

NOTE: Around 11am EST, I checked to see if the Expedition had gone live, received a relatively fast download, relaunched it, clicked a New Save and Expedition shows 6 Weeks in the top left corner. So, I thought cool, I'll check it out when I get back from the grocery store. I get back, now it says Downloading Data and it will not go away.

I have restarted the console multiple times, including hard booting. I show no updates pending.

I did notice my version is 3.63.12157.0, but that may be the latest for Xbox.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions?

Cant get to my main ship after traveling to new galaxy [Question]

I had just gotten to a new galaxy, and instead of heading straight to my ruined ship i went to the anomaly. When i got back to the planet with my crashed ship it was gone. I’m entirely new to the game... Is getting an ‘S’ level frigate for free normal? [Question]

So I’m new to the game like the title says. I’m not really googling anything about the game because me and my roommate have been having the time of our lives playing the game, trying to figure things out, knowing absolutely nothing about it. Truly, I’ve never had so much fun. I feel like an 8 year old kid on Christmas.

Thing is, after I played the game for like 2 hours I rescued a ship from some pirates and a frigate basically handed itself to me. I was like “Okay cool so this is how the game introduces frigates to you”. But my roommate hasn’t gotten one yet (we literally play on 2 x 50” TV’s right next to each other) AND I only just realized that an ‘S’ level is really good??

So now I just gotta ask. Is this normal? Did I hit the jackpot with this thing? Will this happen to my roommate eventually? Am I just kinda lucky?

So after installing the latest patch with the new community expedition in it I've gone to my settlement only to find some if the giant flora on the planet has moved and its stooping me from getting to my overseers station. Can't do anything. Any ideas?

Some Settlement Suggestions [Discussion]

I just wanna say that I appreciate how much HG have kept updating the game after 5 years - It's so much different than it was at launch. However, when adding new features they often feel shallow and incomplete and the settlement system is no different.

My biggest complaint about the settlement system is how divorced it is from the base building that's been in the game for ages - Rather than construct the buildings ourselves we simply provide some materials and then wait - Which is the next biggest thing that annoys me: There's far too much waiting around and very little to actually do. It's still early days but it looks to me like the settlement system will just be another way to earn money and another nice little thing to look at once built up a bit.

There are ways of solving all of these complaints, though. The first one is obvious: Allow us to actually construct the building using the fabulour new parts that were added - Building requirements could work the same way that Two Point Hospital does where there are a set of minimum requirements that have to be met for size, furniture, etc. Alternatively there could be a set of prefabs that lazy players could just plop down wherever they like. This would also remove the timegating because it'd be unnecessary if you're doing the construction yourself.

To make the settlements seem useful as well you could take inspiration from Fallout 4 - Have it so that we can assign settlers to tasks, such as harvesting crops, going on expeditions in a similar way to frigates - Could even expand this functionality so that you can even build up a fleet of ships and send your settlers on inter-planetary missions.

It'd be nice if we could even establish new colonies from scratch and then find a way to attract settlers. The settlements that are prebuilt across the universe could even have some form of trading functionality so we could setup...

I somehow can't get a 6th ship [Bug]

So I currently own 5 ships, 3 fighters, 1 exotic ship and 1 A-class shuttle. As far as I know, you are able to have max 6 ships, right? but whenever I find a crashed ship or want to buy a ship, while I have 5, I can only exchange and not just claim the ship. No mans sky has broken my xbox, literally [Bug]

I loaded onto my game when all of a sudden my game crashed, which by the way it had like 15 times already. Do settlement decisions only happen when playing? [Question]

I switched settlements a few times, and now i got one that i like. But nothing is happening. I know this is happening to more people, but in my first 2 settlements things did happen.

Now i log in like 3 times a day to see if there is a decision for me to make, but nothing is happening. Only difference that i can think of is that in the first 2 settlements i was actively playing the game and things happened. Now i am just passively waiting and checking from time to time. Do i have to play a certain amount of time before something happens? Or is my settlement just bugged? I'm just building up massive debts right now.

Almost every time I travel a long distance, then try to save, the game crashes in Expedition 3. [Bug]

Like the title says. I just made the minotaur and am in the process of traveling like 6000u to get to a settlement like my next step says to, I'll put down a Save point, and as soon as I press save, there's like a (seemingly) 90% chance my game crashes.

What would prevent you from placing a teleporter? [Question]

G'day Folks,

I'm trying to place a base teleporter (in the Expedition if it matters). I bought the blueprint; I have all 3 parts; the interface shows one available to build, but the device never goes "green" for placement. I can't place it on ground or on an alloy floor.

Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Much needed Discovery scanner update [Suggestion]

As a player who has been playing since release, there's only one thing I really miss these days. An update module for the discovery scanner, highlighting minerals, plants or animals that are not discovered yet. Finding those last two small rocks, to complete a explorers guild mission, is often not very fun. If they were highlighted in some way it would be much easier. Beats panning over the horizon, while having half an eye in the description list, to see if any question marks pop up. What do you think?

So I start a new save file and than I'm put into a sorta curated story right? How do I get the expedition exclusive rewards and will I be able to transfer them toy main save?

And as for twitch drops do the items I earn appear on every save or do I have to claim them somewhere in game?

Not sure if this is a bug but on, Phase one, step four it asks you to put down a base computer which needs Chromatic Metal this is made with copper. Gisto Major I can locate everything but Copper.

Is there a way to stop base parts like walls and windows from automatically changing? [Question]

Is there a way to toggle it on and off? It’s a cool feature but it’s currently ruining all of my builds because windows and walls automatically change to different designs depending on where I put them. It would make sense if the designs were similar, but the window design especially changes so much depending on what level it’s at.

I really want to use the 3-pane full length windows to make a glass facade on the front of my base, but I can only do it on the first level. Right now I’m having to use the legacy windows (but they’re no way near as nice).

Extreme Survivalist not working? [Question]

I'm trying to get the platinum so need to get all of the extreme survivalist milestones but I'm stuck on 25.9 sols. My settlement has been swallowed up? [Bug]

So…I logged in to do another building step and plummeted into the water. Okay so yes, I’ve been playing for a while and the geometry is often wild while the game is first loading an area. So I wait. Nothing changes. I get out of the water. My settlement is gone. There’s still a map marker, but half of where the settlement should be is underwater and the other half is in a hill. I have dug around to see if it maybe was moved up or down but no dice. If I go to a teleporter and try to teleport back, I get placed on the ground right about the water line but no buildings ever spawn in even after letting it sit for several minutes.

Anybody else have something like this?

An issue with Quicksilver missions from the Anomaly [Question]

Hi, I recently started playing again with the newest update, and have quickly noticed an issue with Anomaly missions. Every mission I do sends me not only to the same galaxy, but the same planet. It's an awful Chromatic Fog planet with huge crevasses, making even landing near the markers next to impossible. So far I've had 7 or 8 missions in a row send me to this planet, and I'd like to have some variety...is there any way to fix this?

Maybe its just me, but this is easily the least amount of fun I've had with Expeditions [Discussion]

I dont mind the harsh planet start. I do mind locking leaving the planet behind finding every fucking rock on the planet. Or finding herox...like what the fuck is this? I spent the better part of 3 hours looking for one fucking rock only to find out that I still can't leave because I need Herox and oh by the way the only settlement that probably sells the stuff is a 4 hour walk away.

I need help pulling the trigger. [Question]

Is this game really worth it? I bought it upon release and ended up having to refund it. (Due to graphics card incompatibility, not for lack of content) since then, it has continued to live as a bitter spot in the back of my brain.

Weird invisibile griefers [Discussion]

Expedition 3; I can go to the most remote corner of the planet and as soon as I enable multiplayer I see a laser shining on me all the time (I have pvp off) but nobody's around.

Somehow they manage to track me, get to me in a matter of seconds and they're inisible.

i cant update or download no mans sky due to (disk write error). [Question]

i tried every troubleshooting method that steam recommended and i looked up some fixes but none of it worked for me, as a last attempt to fix it i tried reinstalling but it still gave me the same error.

the disk that I'm using is fine, i tried downloading other games and even updating some and all the games updated just fine without giving me an error.

is there any other methods i should try?

Anyone had any luck with touch controls on steam link? [Question]

I am having a tough time setting up touch controls on steam link. It seems like the official one from hello games doesn't make any sense(like X opens crafting). Also doesn't seem to let me use any other configurations and always goes back to the official when I leave the menu. Just curious if someone has some experience with this or has worked it out. Something on my dreamlist for this game. [Discussion]

An expansion on the races, the player's role within them, and the races' relation to the player.

Imagine, you start a new save file. Before you wake up on your first planet, you head straight to a character customization screen. Looks, clothes, colors, all that good stuff. And most importantly, what species are you?

Let's say you pick a Gek. Well, why don't we give you a quest storyline or two related to life as a Gek? Maybe get a mission to go across the galaxy to retrieve artifacts that go back to when Gek were the dominant military species? And as you collect these tokens, and learn these histories, your relation with other Gek increases?

Or, maybe history is boring and you just want to make as much cash as possible. Maybe you can rise in the ranks and become the next bird/lizard shaped Bill Gates.

How about you become a diplomat to other races? An ambassador to the Vy'keen, an enemy to the Corvax, BFFs with the Travellers?

By having a player make a conscious choice, options and emergent storytelling can open up much wider than before.

Different races can have different styles of ships, or multi-tools. Different atmospheres affect each race differently.

It could open up the possibility of factions (best name I can think of), where all of a race's players contribute to the advancement of their respective race.

Let's say you get tired of the Gek life, though. It's time to put down the GekNip and go see about some Convergence Cubes. Perhaps if you make it to the center of the universe, you can find the wisdom to be born again, as someone different, someone new.

Just wanted to get some thoughts out there and see what others thought. Thanks for reading!

P.S.: freighter/frigate systems are lacking, I hope we get some expansions in that department soon. :)

Expedition 3 bug (?) : Mechanical Man [Bug]

I am pretty sure that some mistake has been made. Mechanical Man ask us to deploy a minotaur, however as far as I can tell there is no way to get a minotaur station plans. We do get a Pilgrim station, and if we deploy the pilgrim we do complete the task, however since we still get rewards that should be used on a minotaur I believe we should have the Minotaur Station instead of the Pilgrim, or perhaps I have missed something and there is a way to acquire the minotaur station plans ??

Version mismatch between Xbox app (PC) and Steam? [Question]

Hey all. Just got the game a couple days ago on steam and have some friends playing on PC with Xbox game pass. Since the patch(es) today, we're getting version mismatch from each other, but they can party up and play since they're both on the Xbox version. Google search suggests this is fairly common after a patch release since one system will be behind... Any idea how long this lasts/when both will be updated? I don't think I've seen the big patch come through on Steam yet today.

What is the point of the Base Computer Archives mission? [Question]

Last I played the Base Computer Archives were the only way to get a lot of important blueprints, but it looks like you can find everything in the nexus now so I'm not sure what the mission is for. Are the exclusive blueprints from the mission, or is it just a waste of time? Thanks

Some player heads/helmets are seriously lacking. [Suggestion]

The Lost Bathysphere is uncolorable, yes, but a lot of the Traveler options are worse. The robotic eyes are uncolorable, The Null head is uncolorable (At least that one makes some sense), the apollo head is uncolorable. The eyes for the Artemis head/default alien head are still broken, and despite the organic traveler heads being modular in appearance, we're very limited in what we can use.

It'd help a lot of us stand out more if some of these issues were fixed or improved upon. As it stands, it's possible to bug the Apollo head to a grey-ish color, but that's about it.

The rest of the game is excellent, however. Been enjoying Frontier!

Frigate in inventory? [Question]

I was looking for missions in the nexus and someone added a copy of the “SSV Normandy SR1” frigate in my inventory.

I didn’t even know you could do that but after some research I found that it’s a reward from an expedition and also a ship from the mass effect games.

Now I haven’t done the expedition myself (or any for that matter) but is it possible to add it to my fleet? I don’t see a button for it or anything.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Expedition Unplayable [Bug]

Hey everyone. Playing on Series X.

I was excited to finally get to play an expedition because I missed the first two. I jumped in and started getting into it when I unfortunately found out the game had different ideas in mind. It has now been THREE TIMES IN A ROW where my game crashes when I try to save, and it regresses my progress all the way back to the save before. I've done the stupid "construct a signal booster" mission 4 times now and every time I try to save the game completely closes, and puts me back at square one. I walked for a solid 5 minutes to a building. I hit the save beacon when I was there and, right on cue, the game closes. Anyway it seems at least for me that the expedition won't be playable until another hotfix.

Questions regarding the expedition [Question]

Apologies if this is in the wrong place or anything of that nature, or if it's been asked before, but I was curious and couldn't find any solid results

How long do these types of things take to clear just for the extra rewards for other saves? I don't really have any interest in anything other than the stuff I'll get for my other saves since I'll never be playing on this file again if my understanding is correct

I'm relatively new to the game, only about 30 hours of playtime and still have yet to do a lot of the main stuff in my first save file, would it be worth focusing my attention on this expedition?

Anything I should know about these types of events? I know it lasts for 2 months but I've never heard of them before

Armorer Quests; Is it worth it? [Question]

Around 80 hours in to a save I've found out that the armorer quest to destroy sentinel depots is bugged - as I destroyed the first depot with my ship, rather than multitool, it now won't complete for me. I have tried everything from deleting the armorer, restarting the quest, setting up a new base in a new galaxy and restarting the quest, to no avail - it will not register the sentinel depot as being destroyed by multitool.

I'm debating deleting the save and restarting, but I don't know what you actually get for doing the armorer quests. Is it worth restarting to have it complete properly, or would I be fine to just delete the armorer and carry on? Can you get the same content the armorer provides elsewhere?

Unbelievably Bad [Bug]

What a terrible game. From over promising in the beginning to consistently under delivering with the updates. Every time an update is released to fix one thing it brakes 5 others.

The game is near unplayable with the awful bug ridden multi-player, and base building is pointless since it breaks/disappears/bugs after you leave. Incredibly long load times and awful combat mechanics. Corrupted save files and base layouts means hours and hours of lost and wasted time. I got it because I loved the concept but it is hands down the worst game I have ever played in my life. Unbelievable.

Debt reduction fluctuation [Bug]

Idk if its a feature or a bug but my debt was 580,000 with 12 hours left until it was cleared. I went and accepted a deal to get a medical array that INCREASES my productivity, but when I looked at the overview after my debt value had not changed but the time until cleared changed to 24 hours.

When to settle down? [Discussion]

So just curious when you guys call it time to settle down and say a planet is yours?

I kept on saying "Oh the next paradise world will be better" on my survival run, which wasnt an issue until I lose most everything due to the fact I was carrying it all.

So I guess I need some advice or may inspiration on what you guys look at and for in a planet and whatnot. Im a little boring and spent the whole time looking for the next best earthlike and I really paid for it.

Are Mineral Farms broken for anyone else? (PS4) [Bug]

I've got two farms, each take roughly 9 hours to fill with only 8 extractors each. I've got my supply depots spaced out so they don't overlap, same with my extractors. Came back after over 9 hours of being offline to find my farms empty, haven't uploaded them.

After deleting and reconnecting the power/pipes I waited and they produced some AI, so I left it there and went to fix my other farm. Came back after making sure that one worked to find my farm empty again. Waited for it to produce a cycle again and teleported to where I already was to check and the resource that was produced less than 30 seconds prior was gone again.

Anyone else having this issue?

TL;DR: Teleporting seems to empty mineral extractors/supply depots.

Does every (habitable) planet have a settlement? [Question]

I found a planet that I love after many hours of searching. I then purchased several settlement maps from the cartographer, and have been going through the process of locating one, declining it, and trying again. I’ve gone through probably seven or eight maps, and haven’t gotten a single settlement on my planet. So now I’m starting to wonder, is it possible there’s not a settlement on this planet at all? Or should I just keep going?

New settlement building is glitched [Bug]

Hey all,

I've been slowly making my way through upgrading my settlement and I've run into a hitch. I chose to build a pub and it created only some of the barriers that usually outline the construction area. There's no console to add resources, and construction "items" (scaffold, cement mixers etc.) Appear as I get closer and disappear when I walk away. The quest marked that usually shows the console is also at the monument in town square as well, instead of near the site.

Anyone else have this issue?

well we got pets now, more base decor, environment hazards and a bunch of other cool things we had been asking for (except being able to customize your ship, we all still want that am I rite?)

but for the inhabitants of the game, wouldn't it be cool if the alien races you talk to actually looked diverse body wise instead of the same armored body with different heads? what about body diversity? short, tall, fat, stout, thin etc. what about back spines or protrusions, extra arms, tails and claws even? make them look like actual individual aliens rather than well....different headed clones ?

also there seriously needs to be a tardigrade alien race. Istg missed opportunity

environments still need work, no lava flows near volcanos or hot planets, no ice or glaciers on cold planets, no waterfalls for tropical/paradise areas

another thing that I would really like to see is the ability to literally pick up your base as is as a whole and transport it to another base of your choice provided you have placed a base hub computer and being able to place it anywhere in that spot. my planet used to have water, lush green color and tropical trees, now its gross red, water is gone and its covered in biolumnecent avatar esque mushrooms. so it would be cool to literally transfer everything to a new planet base with everything intact instead of having to start all over and possibly lose parts in the process the old way.

anyway what do you guys think? what content would you like to see them add to the game?

User Interface Questions (Several!) [Question]

I've now been playing NMS for...apparently 36 hours in only 4 days of playing. One might say I'm a bit addicted here. I have some UI and other questions that have been piling up and so I figured I'd just ask several at once:

  1. If I know which planet I want to go to for a resource, is there a way to "set a waypoint" on that particular planet so I can find it once I go into space? I know WHICH planet on Discovery, but then I get into space and I have to go try and figure out where it is, which is very annoying! So, start on Planet A (or even in a different system) and I want to get to Planet B. I get in ship, fly into space, and...have to look around. Sometimes a LOT. Sometimes Planet B isn't even in range so I have to just...fly around and hope I don't get lost?

  2. What's a somewhat efficient way to make money? It feels like I'm constantly struggling for money and it's really annoying!

  3. Is there a way to set up your visor or some other device to "highlight" minerals/fauna/etc to search for specific resources? Like if I'm looking for Cadmium, can I get an upgrade to the visor or something that makes it "highlight" (either by default or by scan) ANY object that provides me with Cadmium? This is especially annoying for me when I'm trying to find particular types of plants, and have to go roaming around looking for them one by one, especially the rarer stuff.

SPAWN WITH A DIFFERENT SHIP ON THE NEW EXPEDITION [Information]

If you didn't know, on the new expedition you are spawning with an Exotic Ship. I didn't like the one I got. So I deleted the save and created a new one, but I got the same ship three times over. I managed to solve by changing my Steam profile name and going to the save folder and deleting all files created or edited when I first loaded the expedition. The second Ship was way way better. Remember to backup everything before trying this. Happy Exploring.

item duplication in portable refinery [Bug]

i played this game on ps4 in 2017 and after a while of playing i discovered this glitch where you can duplicate any item in the portable refinery and i abused it so hard that i reached the end game after just a few days, and it really ruined the game for me as there was not much of a point to keep playing.

4 years later and it's 2021, im back into this game on my pc and i accidently re-discovered this glitch and im trying not to use it cuz i learned from the last time i did. there's no way that after all this time, the devs haven't found out about the glitch. why is it still not fixed? or did they just keep it as some sort of an easter egg.

Easiest Way to get Rocketman in Exp 3 [Information]

After a couple of warps you will get a chance for a free freighter. Take it.

Load up on a LOT of Oxygen. Like 2,000.

You will get a frigate with your Freighter. On any planet summon the Freighter into low planetary orbit.

Save your game. Fly up to Frigate, land on it.

Step off the frigate and you will very slowly fall to the planet below. Your suit will start chewing through oxygen like mad, but just keep topping it up.

You will get the achieve.

Once you hit low orbit you will no longer need O2. Just enjoy the ride and save your jetpack for a soft landing.

A game mode where you start in an uncharted system would be sweet [Discussion]

Obviously they'd have to implement a way to manufacture the chips you use to create your warp drive, and they'd also have to change up the starting mission a bit.

I say this because I really like the idea of actually being truly stranded at game start. I don't wanna see ships flying overhead on my first world and I don't wanna encounter intelligent life just moments after fixing up my ship.

Settlements keep crashing on my PS5 [Bug]

Pending Decisions Bug [Bug]

Can anyone help me with this? When I try to access my pending decisions I am very briefly presented with what is shown in my screenshot then I am immediately booted out of the settlement administration terminal. I know it's a bug but is there a way to fix this right now, or do I just have to move settlements?

An Epic Journey [Discussion]

I am about to attempt to reach a minor settlement that is 22 hours away. The signal booster noted this a nearby structure. I cannot find a trading post and have not happened upon any other buildings that are not beacons. So far I am not impressed with this expedition. I need Herox to get my ship off the ground and the only hope I have is that it is sold at the minor settlement, or that I come across a trading post along my way.

Stuck finding a planetary depot for weapon station [Question]

Hey all,

I've seen posts about this bug but none recent enough that any of the proposed solutions work for me. I was doing the armorer questline as was told to destroy a marked depot. No problem, except I'm dumb and used my ship so it didn't count.

​

I found another and used my multitool, but I forgot to select the quest so it didn't count it. I play on xbox one and don't see options to reset the quest, and I've been to other systems since I got the bug as well with no change. I've also deleted and replaced the weapons terminal, no luck.

​

While I'm here, I no longer have the option to triangulate position on my signal booster for Alone Amidst the Stars - I did the first one and took my signal booster to the second location, but there was no option for 'triangulate position'

​

I have plenty of other tasks I can do, but I'm getting really frustrated by these bugs.

Why can't I start an expedition? [Question]

I missed the first two so I may be doing it wrong, but I don't think so. I launch the game, and I click "new game." But on the right, the expeditions thing says "Expedition complete." Clicking on it doesn't do anything. Am I doing something wrong?

unbearable fps when on planet after new updates in vr. [Bug]

I have good specs I9 rtx 3080 super and the game runs ok on medium settings and planets will be a bit laggy but then after the update from a few days ago it runs fine until i land on a planet or fly over low on one and my fps drops to about 9 and makes it impossible to play while in vr. plz fix hello games and do a vr overhaul because this game run so bad in vr.

Possible solution for Weapon Terminal/Armourer Supply Depot quest problem [Answered]

Been struggling with the Destroy the Supply Depot quest from the armourer. Blew it up with my Rambler, and it didn't solve. Kept telling me to go back to the smoking ruins and blow it up some more, lol. Tried all sorts of things, including waiting for it to be refreshed/rebuilt. Nothing. Blew up lots of other ones. Finally solved the quest:

Went on the Atlas Seed questline until I was many light years away. Landed on a reasonably decent planet, got my rambler and clicked on the quest in the log. It did not pick a depot for me, but it did say to destroy them and I had destroyed 0 of the 1 required. Scanned from the rambler, located a depot, drove over to it. Checked to make sure it had gold (don't know if you need this or not but I was going to do everything I could to solve this). Blasted away and I was told to go see the armourer!

Good news is, I've gotten pretty good at raiding these things. Hope this helps my fellow travelers who are stuck on this frustrating problem.

Am I the only one who doesn't like this expedition? [Discussion]

Stuck on the world for ages and can only take off in like phase 4 or something. Also the rewards (obviously IMO) are crap. Only the bubble jetpack trail appeals to me but I have a better one. The tasks are so boring, it's nothing like the first or second. Nothing will beat the first though even if it did have that freighter long missions.

Freighter bug [Bug]

On PS4, when collecting frigate expedition items if a rare item if found it doesn't allow me to leave the frigate control room until all items that were received flash by the screen.

Then it goes to a screen where it basically tells me that I haven't sent any frigates out on a mission.

Anyone else encountering this?

Sentinel activity different on the same planet, for different players [Bug]

First of all, sorry if this belongs in the Frontiers bug megathread - I just wasn't sure if it was a Frontiers-exclusive issue since my search has shown a similar problem for people playing older updates, and I wasn't even entirely sure if this is a bug or intended feature.

Anyway, my friend and I started new files so we could start over together and play some of the new Frontiers stuff. He found a perfect paradise planet with a settlement and started building a base close by. Sentinel activity is almost nonexistent for him, and the planet data for him reflects this, but when I arrived on the planet, the Sentinel level for me says "Frenzied". I'm greeted with a warning for high and aggressive sentinel activity as soon as I step off my ship, and pretty quickly, sentinels are coming for me and chase me off the planet.

I saw some posts about similar issues in past updates, and it seems like planet sentinel activity can change sometimes on existing files when the game is updated, but we both started new files at the same time post updating our game to Frontiers, so I'm not sure why or how the same planet has different levels of sentinel activity for us. Has anyone else had this issue?

I also want to mention that for one session, I was able to teleport to the planet and it said "Mild" for me that one time, but since then, no matter how I arrive on the planet, either by teleporting or flying there myself, it's been "Frenzied" for just me.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

A huge problem with the ‘Rescue Stranded Lifeform’ mission [Discussion]

So I’m at the point where I’m looking for technology modules and I’m trying to salvage a working one. The thing is, it’s completely random which one is working, and analyzing one will more than likely tell you it’s corrupted. I’m on my 23rd module and I still haven’t found a working one. You’d think that they would’ve made it like a 1 in 10 chance of finding a working one but no it’s just completely random, which is bullshit. Why is this mission still like this? The rewards aren’t even good enough for me to be here for 30+ minutes because none of the modules are working.

Not as easy as you would think [Discussion]

Looking for the right Home planet is time consuming. I have made 300+ jumps and cannot seem to find a Paradise planet with blue ocean with out mushrooms, no storms and no aggressive sentinels,

Been jumping in Eissentam to yellow stars. Multiple times when I thought I found it. It ends up having Sentinels that are on attack mode 24 hours a day.

By the end of NMS's development life, what do you hope the final experience will be? [Discussion]

Personally, I really hope they expand the settlement system. Maybe expand way beyond settlements, going so far as to have real factions, Ecumemopolii, civilizations at war, etc. I know the devs have discussed this before and how they envision this game to be a more player-centric universe, but the recent expansion paints a different story and it's one I hope they stick with. Making the galaxy feel more alive and populated is exactly the kind of space sim I'd dream of. What do you all think? What's your ideal experience?

"First freighter exploit" in co-op, can both players get the freighter? [Question]

My buddy and I just finished the Awakenings quest and got to the anomaly. We heard that you can get capital freighters by cheesing the free freighter quest that triggers on your first few warps. By refusing the freighter and warping around to different systems, you can eventually get a capital freighter to spawn and claim it for free. If we do that in a party together, can we both talk to the captain and individually claim the freighter, or would it only work for one of us?

[Expedition] You don't need to find Herox [Information]

I've been seeing quite a few complaints about having to get Herox to repair your ship. Just thought I'd spread the word that it's significantly easier to get than you might think.

Unlock and build a Large Refiner. Fill it with Ammonia (Very common on the starting planet), Silver (Again, very common) and Cobalt (Mine the rocks in caves to get this)

generate 150 power for expedition 3? [Question]

I'm trying to get the quantum computer needed to fix your ship but I'm still kinda new and unsure as to how you get the 150 needed. I built a biofuel reactor and saw it generates 50 power, so I made another 2 for 150, but the milestone said I was only generating 50. So either I was doing something wrong or it wants you to generate 150 from a single source, and I don't know how that's done.

HELP can't play the game [Bug]

So, basically, HELP When I launch NMS on my laptop, it does a white screen and then : "the game has encountered an error, it will now shutdown" I tried : Launching it again, and again, reloading steam, verifying the game files, uninstalling and reinstalling. Didn't work. So then I looked at the deeper solution : I haven't got a Shadercache file, nor an app the likes of OBS, bandicam or other, so I finally thought, maybe my drivers are outdated ? And now I've been slogging in this hell for about 10 hours, updated everything that could be updated, by steam, driver easy, driverfix (Wich btw gave me a corrupted file so didn't work) and windows update, plus, when I ask windows Wich is the best version of my graphics card, he installs a 2019 version, but every other app installs a 2020 version ???? I've been trying to install a 2021 version, but I can't FUCKING FIND ITBSJSB Help. I am going to go fucking mental I want to play this game so badly. My graphics card is an Intel (R) UHD Graphics 620, currently the version is the 27.20.100.8681 from 05/09/2020. It also doesn't help that I do not know a single shit of what I'm looking at and/or doing. Please help

What happened to this game [Bug]

Idk if it’s just me but this game crashes much more and has way more bugs then it had just a few months ago. I’m a big fan of this game but it’s almost unplayable, especially starting a new expedition when you can’t even save fast enough by the time it crashes. I keep coming back after new updates but they have never done it for me (besides when expeditions first came out). Wish they would fix the game and come out with higher quality updates, for now I have to find a new game.

Multiplayer - what happened?? [Bug]

Came back to a fresh start in the new Frontier update and haven't played since the creatures were reworked. What the hell's happened to the state of the game?

I knew the game had flaws when playing with friends as the non-host but the amount of problems was incredible! After joining their save to teleport to their planet, here's just a few: After leaving the starting planet with the ship and getting to the next where you begin base building, we both have different resources. I spent 20 minutes trying to find regular Copper and only finding Activated, while they could only find regular Copper. My character has sun allergies and the planet would have 5 minute storms trigger after 3 minute intervals. One had a sudden stop, then immediately started another. During these storms, my friend had none occur. The new base building. Building some walls and floors and finding the walls are non-interactable and can be walked through. My friend's base PC 800u away becoming my home base after I put mine down, and mine becoming theirs. Terrain just casually respawning immediately after being destroyed inside my "base". I know this happens after 1000ish bits of ground is altered, but not 20.

I really wanted to play more NMS, it was a fun game before, and I'm curious if anyone else is having these problems when trying to play with friends on Steam. There's probably a whole new mass of bugs to find but I don't want to put myself through that hell. Has anyone else had these problems (or more) with friends as the non-host?

NMS PSVR - Am I missing something??? [Question]

Tried PSVR version of NMS last night. Wanted to do a camp tour vid in VR, but it’s HORRIBLE - like night and day to the standard game. Horrible pop-in rendering at a short distance, tanked FPS, UI clipping into the ground and objects in the room with you, etc (real Lawnmower man vibes). Did they just park VR support for now? It’s fun to see the new build pieces in 3D because they have a lot of cool extrusions etc - But it looks like I’m playing Terraria 3D. Waaaaaaaa 👶

Unable to progress main quest [Bug]

So I made a post about this a little while ago, but it didn’t get many comments and I really want to fix this glitch. I’m playing on PS5 version 3.063.000 and I can’t progress the main quest line at all.

I’m on the mission “The First Traveler” where I have to locate the crashed freighter. The problem is that it says the mission is “in another system” but it won’t tell me what system it is. When I go to the galaxy map, the “current mission” destination is unselectable and there’s no mission icon to show me where to go. The only options are “Galactic Core”, “Black Hole”, and “Free Explore”.

I’ve found other crashed freighters in the meantime hoping this would fix it, but no luck. The salvages give me log encryption keys but I can’t do anything with them. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance

So I had an issue starting the new Expedition, it would not allow me to do so.

I had the old expedition saves and they where still labeled as expedition saves, so what I did was load into these old saves and it had the popup that it converted it to a normal save

Once that happened I was able to start the new Expedition.

FALLING ROCKS FROM THE SKY! [Question]

So I just jumped on to the new Expedition, and I was mining copper when I heard so loud bangs. I thought it was a nither player hucking grenades at me but when I jumped out of the hole thr was no one thr. I then looked to the sky and I saw 3 or for asteroid like rocks herding towards me. I yelped and jumped back in to the whole and dug my self deeper. Then when it stopped. I jumped out of the hole and ran like hell back to my still broken ship. Did they nerf the S class free freighter farming? [Question]

Only seems to work right the first time I save it from the pirates. If I reload the auto save from the station, I still get the distress call when I head out but once I destroy all the pirates (I get the on screen prompt) I never again receive the invitation to come aboard the freighter.

If I go land inside and talk to the captain, the only option I get is to buy it for millions of units or Leave.

Anyone else have this issue and have found a work around? Or did they patch it and I'm stuck with whatever I get? TIA

PLEASE HELP, I'VE LOST MY MAIN SHIP [Question]

I just now bought a new hauler, but in doing so I've lost my main starship. I bought an A class hauler.

The circumstances being: I landed my main ship (a fighter) in a space station, saw a hauler that I wanted, bought it, and moved it to my freighter. When I moved it, I noticed that I was missing my original hauler that I had docked in my freighter. Okay, everything's fine. But upon further inspection, I coudln't find my main ship.

My question is: Where is my main ship? This fighter has all of the hyperdrive upgrades, lots of weapons, and all the scanners I nead in order to travel the universe. Where did it go?

Please let me know if this is an irreversable bug and I just need to start over, or if I can get my ship back.

What the hell. I’ve never had such instability issues as I have recently. Requirements to start Frontiers settlement content? Am I bugged? [Question]

Everything I find on "how to start a settlement" or become overseer or whatever says I just need to leave my planet and I'll get a broadcast and a quest, or that if that doesn't work I can buy nav charts for populated outposts. Problem is I never got the broadcast and I never got the quest. I've followed several of those "populated outpost" nav charts and I've encountered a ton of pseudo-populated buildings on several worlds, but nothing that seems to fit the bill. Is there a requirement I'm missing, or a super rare special kind of outpost I need to find?

I bought the game around the same time Frontiers came out. Not sure exactly whether I started before or after the update. I suppose it shouldn't matter.

Expedition complete when I haven’t started it? [Question]

Hey, I just hopped on after I heard about the third expedition being available today! However, when I try to start one it says “Expedition Complete”, and I am unable to start a new save file for this expedition. Is this a bug or is there a workaround for this issue?

The way I did port in the storm [Suggestion]

So I keep seeing posts about how to complete port in the storm due to the fact that the buildings that appear are essentially across the planet.

The way I did mine was going into my construction research unit and researching the roamer, then upgrading the scanner and looking for the building either the trade center or the abandoned buildings will work this should get you stuff within a 10 minute travel time in the romer double that on foot.

I don't know if mine had glitch to allow me to research everything from the construction unit but it also completed mechanical man when I deployed it.

Expedition 3 - A Quick Guide! [Spoilers - Figuring Stuff Out] [Spoiler]

There were really quite a few things that made the expedition a bit painful and annoying to try and figure out. I hope this helps some of you as I couldn't find the answers to these problems very easily, and once I did I managed to help some friends stuck on the same path. I won't cover all of the steps as most of them are fairly easy. I cover the starship fixing methods specifically below the general tips. Hope this helps someone! :)

  • General Tips

  • You can do any task from any phase. While following the phases is pretty much the best way, you might require things from the next phase for your current phase, as task rewards help greatly.

  • Everyone is placed on the same planet, making base-building and the like quite buggy. A good way to fix this is to reload a manual save. There's also a lot of people experiencing crashes. Keep manually saving your game every 10 minutes, or you might learn that the hard way.

  • Most Importantly: A lot of what you need to fix your ship's launch, engine and drive parts are achieved from various tasks across different phases, which again you can do in varying order.

  • Scan Everything!

Scan all Fauna and Flora from the moment you start. This will help with multiple tasks throughout phases.

  • Discover 18 Minerals

This one frustrated me quite a bit. As I said, scan -everything- Don't trust your eye, tiny rocks and duplicates of flora exist (for example two variations of cave marrow bulbs, oxygen, sodium). Look at everything with the visor and keep an eye on the left for the ??? fields. You'll have to explore caves, lakes and even lake-caves to find all the minerals. Some are massive underwater rock formations. Again, there's variations of small rocks, trees, and small plants. Don't get frustrated, takes everyone a while. [PS5] Bugged off-ground bases in Frontiers (v3.063)? [Bug]

Was playing Expedition 3 last night and decided to build my base off the ground to stop grass etc indoors.

So.. stairs from the ground up, attach ground-plates in mid-air, then walls, finally roof, basic square building. Firstly, it kept bugging the walls, couldn't delete/edit/move most of them unless reloading the save. And could walk through them.

Secondly, when going indoors, most of the area was still considered outdoors (storm effects etc)

Rebuilt the same building on the ground (no stairs), and everything worked as expected.

Companion personality (and biological horrors) [Discussion]

I just completed the expedition and received my biological horror egg, and decided just for fun to try the egg sequencer. My new dog has, by default, 12% playfulness, 90% aggression, and 90% independence; these are labeled "Sly," "Vicious," and "Feral" respectively. When I played around with the egg sequencer, though, I found that even low aggression was described in aggressive terms-- 20% aggression, for example, was "Bloodthirsty." 100% gentleness was "Docile," and I'm not sure if that's the same for other animals. Has anyone else played around more with this?

Anyway, while I was doing this, I realized I don't think there's a comprehensive list of all the terms used to describe the different percentages. So I made a google doc to record the different words, because of course. Since I can only hold six pets at one time, I can only record five data points for each trait (not counting the biological horror, since its text may be different), so if anyone else wants to share their pets' traits and terms, that would be great. The doc is here.

Stuck in frontiers expedition [Question]

I’m at an impasse. I need to fix the life support on my ship but I have no Herox. The minor settlement nearby doesn’t sell it and the next nearest point of interest is 5 hours away, which would probably be double that since the planet is mountainous.

Am I missing something? Is there something I should be crafting or refining?

PC/Steam No option to start expedition after update [Bug]

Logged out and ended all steam processes, restarted steam and the game. Did this twice. The game is fully updated. Any other tips, anyone else having this issue? I haven't even done an Expedition before, so I don't have any Expedition save files.

Triggering freighter rescue [Question]

I've read that you need to play for at least 3 hours and warp at least 5 times to trigger a freighter rescue. Is that 3 hours per play session or 3 hours total? I have like 50 hours and waaay more than 5 warps and I've only encountered like two freighter rescues.

Crash crash crash [Bug]

Anyone else have the game crash like 9 times out of 10 when saving? Cannot even explain the frustration. I love expeditions. But this one is hardly playable right now. It took me literally 3 hours for 40 minutes of gameplay. PS5

What is the quickest way to the galactic core? [Question]

SPOILER: I completed a lot of the Artemis quest line so far (I learned the multiverse is a simulation). My next part of the quest is to go to the galactic core. Main reason I am trying to complete all this is because of m trying to unlock all 16 glyphs for the quest with the void egg. It is going to hatch. So far all I’ve been doing is warp to the nearest black hole (I have the artifact that lets you see all the black hole locations without going to see polo)

Settlement building in the Volcano.....WARNING [Bug]

I got this settlement next to a Volcano thinking it would be cool to have a volcano base looking down on my peasants. Apparently new buildings don't have collision detection for volcanos. Anyone know if I can get in there to put the mats in? I'm doing well, have positive flow of income and just now able to produce items. I don't want to start a new settlement :(

I just repaired my ship and my construction research unit has now gone back to the regular version so i can't use it to learn every blueprint and i can't summon the nexus to go learn them there.

Expedition crashing a lot on PS4 [Bug]

Is someone also experiencing this? It only seems to be a problem in the expedition cause on my main save i play without anything like this

I crash way too much, something like five or ten minutes which is a bummer cause i cant get to progress due to this problem, it gets to the point that i have to be constantly saving in fear of losing progress, which is a problem cus most of the time i place the save beacon and try to save the game crashes

This is what I see when I try to build. Left clicking does nothing. No messages or anything.

I've tried disabling mp just to see if it was an issue with that. The nearest bases or anything for that matter is 15+ hours away on foot. I am kind of stuck at this point and can't progress further.

Lost My Permadeath save By using a Portal [Bug]

Pretty sad about it. Didn't have a lot of time in it, but somewhere around 55hrs. I only started my first PD run recently. Had many close calls along the way from picking fights I probably should have been more careful about to dumb things like getting too high off the ground with the jetpack when it was getting low.

My first settlement was on a toxic world with frequent storms. I searched for a new one far and wide and found one I liked and traded up. Spent a lot of time waiting for something to happen. Just loaded up the game to see if something was available and it told me to return due to high sentinel risk. I was on my freighter and turned towards the ramp to go down to my ship and thought "Wait, I have a portal on here." So to the portal I went.

As the screen began to reveal my settlement before me, my point of view was rising into the air, almost like it does when a new location is revealed. It then dropped back down rather abruptly and... I was dead... Permadeath erased.

As a note, I've read posts about backing up your PD saves but never did. I'm ashamed of myself. I don't believe there's anything I can do now, but wanted to vent and I know there are probably many others on here who have experienced the pain, and some with probably a lot more time invested than myself.

Not going to start a new game tonight. But maybe tomorrow after work. Still love this game, despite things like this.

Question on settlements [Question]

Hey, I’m back. I know I was JUST here asking questions, I won’t make this a trend, a swear. lol.

Been getting into the game more, found out about settlements, figured I’d give it a go. Got my map from the cartographer, found a settlement, taken by another player. Okay, got another map, found another settlement, taken by another player. Did this for all six planets in my system.... a system that I found, im listed as finding it myself just over 24 hours ago.

Is this a glitch or just how the system works? Is it possible that after finding this system, people took it over within a day? Also, when I talk to anyone about the distress signal, it says that sentinels have appeared, and then nothing happens (looked all over for sentinels, actually had to go find one about a football field away just to see if that was the one it mentioned, wasn’t it).

I wanted to ask you guys before I went too far in. Am I just stupid and am doing it wrong? Or does this seem weird to you too?

Does the number of slots in a freighter matter? [Question]

I'm brand new to the game and having a blast! However, I'm confused by some of the mechanics. The magical storage containers that instantly warp my stuff around the galaxy makes me think that freighter slots are irrelevant. I have massive storage with all the containers, which I can access from within my freighter. Am I missing something?

Base crowding this expedition: trouble finding unclaimed land [Discussion]

This is the first expedition I've participated in at day one, so I don't know if this one is unusual in this regard, but... I think it was a bad idea to have so many players spawn in on top of each other at designated spots when requiring base building to complete the expedition. The first wave of players to go through the first couple milestones put bases down anywhere without care or consequence, but as time goes on, it gets increasingly more difficult to find unclaimed areas remotely close to a spawn-in location. It's also maddening to have zero visibility of claimed area. Day 1 in the expedition, I had to put my base computer down 10 times in a wide area to find a spot to claim. Any spot. In a week it will be a nightmare.

Did I accomplish most of what you can do in this game? [Question]

I have a fully upgraded S class multitool and ship that I like, all item slots unlocked in my exosuit, S class settlement, some cosmetic items from Quicksilver(but that doesn't really matter).

The same daily quests keep repeating and the Space Station quests are repetitive.

Apart from playing the Expedition that just launched(though the rewards aren't that tempting) and making a base, did I accomplish everything I can do in this game?

I just lost an hour of on foot exploration when my game crashed as I saved 😭😭 [Bug]

When saving with the save beacon after a long amount of time unsaved in the expedition the game will crash trying to save. I intend to see if the game still crashes saving when playing offline, will report back if it crashes again. So this post is also a fair warning to you players trying out the expedition as well, since the game won't save by ship because it out move, BRING A SAVE POINT WITH YOU WHEN YOU GO EXPLORE FAR AWAY

Game crashing when entering or exiting starship [Bug]

Has this been happening to anyone else? After the latest update it already deleted millions of units worth of chlorine and oxygen from my refiners, but now the game also wont let me in/out of my ship without crashing. Also my settlement time stuff will save, but none of the other work I've done. Is anyone else having this issue because it's pretty frustrating and its already happened to me twice in 30 mins doing completely different things?

Something I noticed [Spoiler]

Maybe not a spoiler but just to be safe. Think about this. No Man's Sky is a space version of The Truman Show at best or The Maxtrix. As you explore and learn more. I get the feeling everyone is in on it or at least some people are. Heck almost all the your base people pretty much break the fourth wall. Could also be Space Ground Hog Day also.

Hello Games, can we please have functional roomscale for us VR users? [Suggestion]

Please, don't let VR get shelved. I have poured 100 hours in the last three week as a new player, purely in VR and its glorious. However it's 2021 and there is no room scale, so I am constantly spinning around to find menus and the jetpack is broken completely (jet boots almost kill you). It's the one thing it needs and there was a mod, but your update completely killed it! Please, just bake it in, remove the hideous warning screen and enable roomscale. The roomscale mod is amazing and improves the VR experiences out of sight, but now, back to mediocre. Why do people have to create stuff that we have had for 5 years in VR to fix a feature that should of been standard? Stuff that is core coding, should not be left up to the player base to fix!

Settlement building conflicts: a cautionary tale [Video]

I’ve been at a settlement for about five days doing various overseer tasks, building structures and solving disputes. I have also been base building nearby the settlement and built a University, styled after Telvanni Mushroom towers in Morrowwind. The conflict I predicted and have experienced is that the settlement chooses the footprint of new buildings and my 6 hours or so of building is forfeited. Looking for someone to explore the Universe with [Question]

If you are looking for someone entertaining, sorry I'm not your guy hahah

I just want someone to explore the universe with, build bases with, quest with, explore with, and just admire the scenery.

As much as I love exploring in this game...the exploring expect was fulfilled when this game first came out. Been playing on and off since day 1, and with all the new features, it feels dull doing it all alone, I'm just not good enough to share it alone.

Some old friends of mine that got the game just aren't interested in playing any more. I will play on either normal or creative, but the worst part is realizing how alone I am when I can't share anything haha. It also sucks not being able to see anything new someone else found either.

Do I have the worst luck in expedition 3, or not? [Question]

Cannot get the milestone for getting shelter. None of the four buildings nearby, or even detected with the signal booster have shelters. None of them. I detected a ruin 6 hours away, and decided to head that way. After an hour, I caught glimpse of a new building. It's a drop pod. Does not count as shelter either. Well, at least at my ship base I earned 2 million units from the galactic terminal. What should I do?

Look, I get it, you don’t want the expedition to be over within an hour or two.

But you’re seriously going to make us find all the minerals on this damn rock to complete an early, necessary step? You do realize that some of us have spawned hours away from an ocean, right? Just shallow ponds here and there, finding the same 3 marine minerals I’ve already scanned. This is asinine.

I’ve found all the cave and land minerals, but now I have to drive hours to find the rest. Fun.

Controller stops working (PC) after using an item, any solutions? [Question]

Hey there,

I literally just started playing this game a few hours ago in PC but using a controller (so I can play from the couch).

Everything seems to be working fine and I have enjoyed the game so far however whenever I use an item like the refining machine thing the controller stops working altogether. Have done it several times, and this has happened every single time.

It's a pain in the ass tbh since I then need to go to the laptop, connect a mouse to place the machine etc.

Has anyone had a similar issues?

Doing the Expedition? Look at the rewards that you get ahead of time. [Suggestion]

I wasted a perfectly good factory code on the Quantum Mirror only to get it for free later on...MOST of the things you will need to complete the achievements are given to you in another achievement (or at least the recipe is).

You can save some time an aggravation by looking at all the rewards and figuring out how to get them done in the right order.

Never able to connect to the 'online services' [Question]

I am able to see and join other people to play with, but uploading bases, downloading bases, uploading planetary data, it's never online, never has been. Since nexus arrived i haven't been able to go to anyone's base as it always states the download failed.

HELP (Probably N00B question) Cant place any tech on planet surface after traveling through black hole [Question]

I had to travel through a black hole in order to reset a bugged quest in the Artamis plotline.

ever since I went through the hole I cant place a base computer or even a refinery on any planets surface. these are all unclaimed planets discovered by me.

I can pull up the build menu but when hovering over a deployable module like the base computer the curser does not change and does not allow me to start the action

Expedition: Blueprint Station no longer working [Question]

My base construction blueprint learnin' thingie now only shows me the structures (stone, alloy, wood) and base habitation tabs. I had the whole sweep of them available to learn previously, but now that I actually gathered enough salvaged data, I can't research anything.

I've used it at my base and also "portable." I'm kinda stuck, because I can't learn the supply depot for the "extract 1000 minerals" mission.

Also have no option to summon the Anomaly in space, so... Wat do? (Been to the space station and back, and the anomaly just isn't there in my menu)

How are you supposed to get Herox for the expedition? [Question]

The only outpost my scanner found is 11 hours away in my Minotaur. I've been wandering around looking for floating crystals or "organic" rocks for two houtshours and still haven't found anything. So either a 22 hour round trip or keep wandering around aimlessly? Seriously?

Disable animal fur? [Suggestion]

Hello, is there a way to disable animal fur?

I don't have a top system (R5 2600, R5500XT) but the game is playing in the 60+ fps region after some tweaking with the settings, but once I encounter some fury animal everything goes downhill, like 5-15fps...

if there is not a way, can we get some switch in graphics or something?

I found a really nice s multi tool in a system, but wanted to see if I could re roll it on the other planets in the system. Now I can only see one tool from each planet even with reloading and one of them are the nice one. [Question]

I fly to the planet, place a save beacon, save, reload that save, then fly to the station, but it’s always the same multi tool. I fly to the next planet and it’s always the same one for that planet. There are only 3 planets, I only have access to 3 multi tools, and all 3 are worse than the one I flew in to. What am I doing wrong?

Lost my first Void Egg [Question]

How do I pin construction steps? [Question]

Hey guys! I just started the new expedition, and I'm on the Homecoming milestone of phase 1. The tip that comes up says "Deploy a Base Computer to establish a base. Access the Build Menu with 'Z.' Pin construction steps with '!'" - instead of a key command, there's a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it here. How do I pin construction steps? Sorry for the newbie question, I am very confused and am having trouble finding answers on Google.

Please give us a way to turn off journey mile stones interruptions [Suggestion]

I don’t understand the need to interrupt the flow of gameplay and blocking the UI with a message saying “You have learned 8 words”. I mean, really? 8??

This is just one of the many QoL issues that have persisted for a very long time, but one of the most annoying. Everything that causes repeated forced interactions with the UI needs to go. Galaxy map black hole discovery, freighters in distress hijacking your map monitor… it all gets old REALLY fast.

Shouldn’t have to install wonky mods to bypass such basic UX flaws.

New to game, notice when running player will automatically readjust running direction to avoid objects - can it be turned off? [Question]

Hey folks,

basically I am not enjoying the movement. It uses this autopathing. I'm running toward a small mound, or even a small rock that normally in every game I would run up and over, in NMS it automatically strafes my character or turns it slightly upon impacting with the rock to redirect me around it. Its really throwing off the movement in the game for me as I have to keep relatering my directional course when running. Any way to turn this off? Not 2 hours in yet and I would prefer not to refund it over this but can not get to grips with it.

Wish I could keep the ship [Discussion]

I'm sitting in my ship during the expedition, waiting on my last milestone to complete (mineral extraction) and I'm thinking, I wish I could bring this ship into my main save, or at least the technologies I spent hours scrounging up materials for and repairing. I play in Survival, though, so when this Expedition finishes in 6 months, this ship will be stuck in a Normal difficulty save file. Anyone else wishing they could bring the ship into Survival?

Settlement size limit? [Question]

So I just started construction on my fourth or fifth building, and now I'm curious if there's a limit to how many buildings I can have. I'm sure there is, but the area around the settlement seems fairly large, based on where you can summon your ship. If anyone has reached this limit, I'm sure we would all like to know.

My dumb class-based resource use idea [Discussion]

So this idea probably won't appeal to most people, but as someone who roleplays pretty hard when I play No Man's Sky I feel the need to share it anyways.

Currently a lot of different resources accomplish the same goal. Specifically I want to talk about hazard protection (hp) and life support (ls). You can currently refill hp/ls by consuming it from your inventory. "Food" can be anything from the various wild plants you can forage on various planets (heptaploid wheat, grahberries, sweetroot, etc) to the various meats or resources you can gather from killing or milking wild animals, to more complex dishes crafted by mixing ingredients in a nutrient processor. This is a complicated but intriguing method of maintaining your character's wellbeing. Alternatively, you could just make ion batteries to recharge your hazard protection, or life support gel for life support. On top of being easy to craft with ingredients you can find anywhere, you can also buy them literally everywhere and for cheap.

Or if that's too complicated, you can just pick yellow and red flowers that are found on every planet everywhere you go and use them to refill hp/ls directly. This is also the most efficient method, because on top of being easier and free to do than the other options it also refills your hp/ls more.

So I like to go for the food/cooking method when I play because I think it's the most interesting, but I also have multiple save files that I play differently from eachother. On one save I tend to do everything by hand, buying as little as possible and mining/crafting everything that I'm able to, foraging for food and stockpiling meals in my backpack. On another save I'm more of a trader, avoiding all manual labor where possible, restricting myself buying all the resources I need when I need them and always having a ship inventory filled with interstellar trading commodities. Reverse settlements [Discussion]

Settlements are not a bad idea but have been implemented poorly, I'd liked more if they were npc-governed cities with facilities at the center and each player could buy a square lot (slot) of terrain inside them so there could be effectively a boundary-enforced multiplayer city.

Past Expedition Reactivation Bug Still Exists [Bug]

This is an FYI rather than a request for help.

I just encountered the glitch that returns former-Expedition saves back to active Expedition mode (after having turned Normal). This is the second time this happened to my Expedition 1 save, and this time I noticed a pattern: After Expedition 1 ended the save I made for it converted to Normal. During Expedition 2, my Expy 1 save suddenly completed The Aviator, a milestone for flying 500,000u. The main menu showed it went back into Expedition mode. After Expedition 2 ended my Expy 1 save converted to Normal again. During Expedition 3, my Expy 1 save suddenly completed The Pilgrim, a milestone for walking 5,000u. It's now back in Expedition mode, for the third time.

Seems their distance-measuring milestones may be the culprit.

Like the last time, milestones are broken for a reactivated expedition save. Most are marked complete, with rewards claimed. A handful are complete with rewards to claim. The rest are incomplete with no tasks so they can't be completed. Trying to look at Expedition 3 phase 5 outright crashes NMS.

That's now my sixth bug report to Hello Games for today. I sure hope they can get the game back into shape before the Expedition ends.

Expedition 3 is almost unplayable [Bug]

Trying to work through expedition 3 on PS5 but it is so glitchy and constantly crashes when trying to save progress.

I have been playing the expedition for 4 hours and have had at least 10 crashes losing any progress I made after the last successful save. So out of 4 hours my game time is recording as 30 minutes.

I honestly don’t know if I will persevere with this expedition if there is no improvement.

So I actually followed the link that someone posted to report bugs to hello games. Can't remember which post had it. Well I mentioned 3 things such as no build options for settlement, wires showing up at my bases even though I had a cloacking device and starship not landing on my landing pad when I warped to my bases. Well next day I turned on nms and all 3 issues were fixed. Maybe a patch for all 3 or maybe they do listen to your feedback. Just sharing my experience. Might help other travelers.

What is the Most recent Method of Nanite farming in Solo Play? [Question]

Hey guys, so i'm pretty new to NMS and it's subreddit.

I've reached the Space Anomaly a little bit ago and have stopped progressing the main story and have instead chosen to farm for resources, upgrades, modules, etc.

and right now, i'm in want of nanite for all the upgrades and schematics in the anomaly's research stations.

i'm pretty sure that the sentinel rain farm has just been patched a couple days ago.

i'm playing single player so no multiplayer exploit farms are available to me, and i'd rather not get a PS+ membership.

I'd rather not use methods that exploit game mechanics, like the Runaway Mould farm.

and finally, i don't have much units to my name, just under 3 million, so no buying S class ships and scrapping them.

tl;dr: i want a recent nanite farming method available to solo players, doesn't use exploits and doesn't require the player to have 10s of millions of units

i don't mind spending hours of grinding, as long as it can get me at least a few thousands of nanites within a couple hours.

I found a really good looking fighter on the planet at a trading post... except I forgot to show the coordinates when I screenshot it.

It's an all white with blue accents, heavy fighter, triple booster with the curved wings over the heavy parts. I will post my screenshot to the coordinate exchange once I find out what they are.

Please make Wood, Concrete and Metal researchable again. [Discussion]

I really love Lumber, Stone and Alloy, but visually they serve totally different purpose, imo. And now new players, or players who didn't research all the parts before, can't get them all anymore.

Lumber, Stone, Alloy parts have aesthetic of long term buildings on a safe, flourishing planet where you can build your beautiful Villa or Hi-tech mass effect/star wars-like builds.

Wood, Concrete, Metal parts on the other hand offer wider variety of more vibrant colors, their visual style is of buildings that you build for a short term, or rather, survival shelters to keep you from harm on hostile planets, similar to prefabs.

Even though the old parts do not support new adjacency system, they are still, at its core, a big part of the game that shouldn't be kept from new players and players that don't play that much, as they offer completely different visual approach(?) to play the game.

Thoughts?

Expedition: Large refiner eating mats and space station not showing up in teleporter. [Bug]

Anyone else getting these bugs.

I went to the space station twice and used it teleporter twice but my base teleporters do not have an option to tele back to the station.

I fed a large refiner 400 pure ferrite went to my inventory screen to see what else I might need, went back to the refiner and the mats were gone.

Plus regular crashes on PC.

Anyone else have these, it seems unplayable at this point.

Help on expedition 3 first phase [Question]

Hey, so I am trying to start expedition 3, and my next milestone is taking shelter in an alien structure. The tip is saying to use the signal booster to find some. I did. It's showing a "minor settlement"... And 11 hour to reach it on foot.

Obviously at that point I don't have all the stuff needed to repair the ship, and I can't even make an exocraft for a lack of materials (not that it'd help a lot given how far it is).

So, what am I supposed to do? I could see an building close by, but it was a beacon, so no structure. Am I supposed to wander around until I find a building of some kind?

I am already confused from the terrible base building glitches and the new (pretty unreadable) UI that plagued the first half of this phase, along with the storms being a pain. I really don't know where I am going with all this.

New Settlement bug? [Bug]

I was looking for a new settlement today trying to find one that wasn’t on fire 24/7 (it was unbeknownst to me at the time you didn’t need to accept the first one) and I finally found a planet I liked.

After buying the map from the cartographer and plotting it on this new planet (which I made first contact btw) I found the settlement.

However I am unable to try and become the overseer of this settlement. When I go to the hub in town it just says it’s reserved for the settelement. Along with with that it doesn’t show me any stats; as in the population is 0, 0 productivity, 0 debt etc. it even says “other players settlement”. The marker for the settlement itself is a point in the ground like 10 feet deep. ADDITINALLY, and probably the strangest part, there are two floating ceiling pieces on the edge of the settlement. I tried to delete them in the edit menu but it just says “nothing to delete”.

I’m not sure what exactly happened, but if anyone has a better idea than me it would be much appreciated :) thank you!

Also can you have more than one settlement on a single planet? I really don’t wanna waste NAV data although I know it’s easy to get.

Petition to change that robotic voice [Suggestion]

After about 2 years not touching the game and whining about all my issues with it i finally picked it up again only to be instantly annoyed by this screeching voice telling me something is depleted or whatever.

Would very much like an audio setting to turn it off.

Or even better, change that screeching robot voice into a calm female/male voice, a bit like Jarvis from the Iron man movies. It would feel far more immersive having a humanized robot talking to you rather than what we have now

Expedition 3 Question [Question]

Got a ways into it, but had one hang up. There are a couple missions that want you to travel to a building and also an outpost. But when I use the beacon or a map, the building is like 5 hrs away. Getting a bit discouraged... [Discussion]

I havent been able to play expeditions cause if i save i crash.

I havent been able to "play" frontiers because of the bugs despite the updates.

Last vew weeks its hard to even play the normal game because of gamebreaking bugs & low fps.

Will HG fix this mess before another update ruins it completly?

No Man’s Sky Twitch Drops [Question]

I’ve never really used twitch or twitch drops before (watched the odd stream is all) but really like the idea of the freebies through watching a game I love anyway but was unsure how it works. I have my accounts all linked up in twitch and see on the official post it says watching for 3 hours nets all the drops and that it’s at 14:00 BST each day, but am unsure do I have to watch from 14:00 for 3 hours or is it any time before the next days drops for a total of 3 hours as I’m at work normally till 19:00 BST so want to start around then but want to earn all the drops I can?

No collision with built walls. No way to select them [Bug]

Hi there! I've played nms in the past and i had never had such problem. The walls i build have no collision and i can walk through them. Only walls tho, i don't have problems with ceiling and floor. The related issue is that i cannot select the placed walls to move them or just remove completely. Basically the only way to get rid of them is to wipe out the whole base...

Wish We Could Interact with the INTERIORS of Settlements RPG Style [Discussion]

You know how when you go into a buildings in an RPG you can basically inspect (read: loot) pretty much everything? I wish this was possible with settlements. As it is everything is purely visual, which is fine as it looks nice. However, I really want to dig into them, have a Vy'keen yell at me when I open his undie draw, steal a few units from s carelessly placed data cube, that kind of thing. Would just bring it all some much more to life.

I'm confused by how this is supposed to work. This morning my settlement was S class and sentinel alert level was at 95%, I saved and closed the game.

It would be nice if we could could color our monstrous companions [Suggestion]

After beating the expedition (which I enjoyed a lot), I couldn't wait to mess around with the new horrific egg using the gene sequencer. Finding out that I can only change size and behavior was a little disappointing. Implementing mutations via gene splitter is understandably challenging, but being able to customize my little monster with a crazy color scheme would be really cool.

I might have messed up (ship swapping) [Question]

Just 12 hours into the game. Loving it!

Last night I decided to progress the story a bit and did the Artemis coords part. Found the shop (44 slots!) which was busted up bad. Fixed the thrusters, the warp and hyper drives were already good, and took off... Leaving my 1st shop behind.

When I got to the station I could see both ships in my summon menu, but can't summon my first ship because no fuel in it.

It is chalk full of resources. I need to get it to transfer stuff. How can I do this considering I don't even remember what planet it was on?

Thanks, sorry if this question gets asked a lot, I did research and every one days says to get a freighter and it will appear lol. I'm not there yet.

Ive been doing the community expedition and am now on phase 5 with only the rendezvous 1 and 2 to complete, but ive been hyperspace jumping for the better part of 2 hours now and still seem nowhere close to getting to the objective.

has anybody got any advice or the name of the system/planet the objectives are on or just anything that will make me feel like im not just acheiving nothing.

i know it says that its supposed to be a "significant journey" but it still feels like its been taking a very long time

I got this decoration as a reward from the expedition. A couple things: Should that grid always be active? It seems like it's harder to see the hologram-ed planets and a bit of an eyesore. I think this should display the solar system that it's placed in. It would be neat to have a mini version of the system you're in inside your base. Currently, that is not the case :(

Expedition: Stuck in the middle of nowhere? [Question]

I can’t tell if I’m unlucky or missing something in the current Expedition. I’m at the part where I need to find a planetary outpost to get the Herox formula, but there is nothing around me! I used a signal booster and it points me to a place 14 hours away on foot. I’ve been traveling about half an hour from my ship and can find no habitations at all, except one little shelter.

What am I missing? Are we meant to travel hours away from the crashed ship, only to have to travel back?

Questions about expeditions [Question]

I'm not a new player but I only have about 50hours of gameplay and this game seems huge af so I probably didn't see 30% of the game.

The point is: I don't have a clue of what an expedition is. How does it work? Since I don't have much free time consistently can I play it alone or I need to play it with the community?

So how did this expedition measure up against the previous ones?

I missed the first 2. (the second one by a couple days)

I thought it was an interesting way to start. It felt way easier than "normal" mode. Kinda like they handed you 3/4 of the early game on a silver platter. Is that a change from previous expeditions?

I can imagine if they weren't throwing around such big rewards it would have made it more difficult.

I have to say I was surprised with how short it was. Not that it was bad but just that I expected it to be bigger based off a few comments I've read about people not being able to finish the others on time.

Recharge system [Suggestion]

Anyone else think the should update the way the options to recharge the vital and ambience systems, the ion battery and the vital gel should appear as first option, when I'm in a hurry and do a fast recharge I don't look and recharge whit oxygen or sodium. Stuck in Expedition 3 - Save Bug [Question]

I have a problem I need help with. I just started Expedition 3 and the only way I can save is to go in and out of my ship (that I know of). Problem is the game crashes as soon as I try to exit my ship. I started on a planet with toxic environment and storms, luckily my ship is at some ancient ruins so I have relief from the environment.

The only solution I can think of is to gather resources to make a save point but there's no sodium around and I can't travel very far. Any other ideas?

Expedition review (kinda). [Discussion]

It is my very first expedition (even though I have 350h on my counter, I just had a break from the game) and… I love it. For me it is better story than original paths. You can feel literally stranded on this planet. I play solo because that’s the experience I want to have. Love how I have to explore and develop in order to progress. The original game lets you fly away in like 30 minutes or so. After so many hours it is very refreshing for me, starting from the scratch in more demanding manner. The milestones are clear and gives guidance what should I focus on. The planet is lovely (I like shitholes, it can’t be helped) and my Gek character- it really feels like this scenario was designed with care. A story of stranded hero on an unwelcoming world. I just wish there weren’t space ships flying on the sky - it breaks my immersion a little. Overall- I love it. I was afraid I would have to rush it, but 6 weeks seems more than enough to complete it. I’m very excited for my evening session. What are your thoughts about it? Fly safe, travelers.

I have a question for the large base building experts. [Question]

Me and my friend recently started new saves and get online together twice a week. We decided to find a good planet, a rainy paradise, and build a kind of joint base. We found our spots to put down our base computers and then set about building a long bridge over a valley between them. I then put down another base computer and made another long bridge from the middle of the other bridge to make a T. We then started building on and expanding on the bridge with launchpads, etc. In the middle of it we now have a big concourse, looks like a big warehouse with a glass roof at the moment, which we plan on filling with smaller buildings and farm stuff, etc. Inside, though, in the middle of it, the rain pours in and the temperature is the same as outside. It's 4 stories high, and then I added another level and another roof on top of that to try and stop it. Close to the edges of the building it registers that we are in a building and has inside temps, no rain. So...anyone know of any fixes for this without bringing the roof down to one or two stories or moving planets?

My thoughts and some suggestions for Hello Games, as a day 1 player [Review from a day 1 player]

Bought the game day 1 on steam, enjoyed the game how it was for a bit but it got boring real fast. By the time I found out Steam was giving away free refunds at the time for No Mans Sky, I was too late to claim me a refund. That has been one of the best things that ever happened to me in hindsight as I'm pretty sure I would have never bottered giving the game another chance if it wasn't allready in my library.

Time skip to today, and No mans sky has turned into one my favorite games. What I would like to see in some hopefully future updates are actually only 3 or 4 more things. More variation in planets, creatures and plants (they feel all largely the same).

Ship customization, or maybe even asembling a ship from some premade parts (think basebuilding but with ships instead).

Big space wars in some systems that you can come across at random (kinda like the freighter battles but way more epic and huge).

Big ass cities. (I like the settlements idea, but it would be kinda cool to come across some big cities or metropolises every now and then completely inhabited by npc's completely loose from the player (I feel that would bring the verse more to life).

All in all it's one of the most fun games I've played to date, they did an awesome job turning this game around and I'm happy I got stuck with it back when it first launched.

The starter ship in session 3 is a random exotic. [Question]

I figured we all got the same ship to start with like the last 2 times but no, while I got a squid my GF got a royal and I just saw a post with a ship named for a fish but my brain just blue screened on what it is.

Now I'm curious if we can reroll saves to get the ship we want Vs the one we're given. Has anyone tried this? I'm not done yet (adult gamer/long shifts) so I don't want to risk my progress but it would be cool to get a bonus exotic of my choice.

Version Mismatch [Question]

Are the settlement buildings already generated before building them ? [Discussion]

I wonder if anybody noticed it, but I don't know if the building choices are that random.

Yesterday after the 3.64 fix, I encountered a mission blocker, it proposes me a choice to build something, but for 2/3 frames, and then it goes back to menu selection. I was ok no worries, let's see how it goes with all the fixes. Before the fix, I noticed I had 5 or 6 building "choices" of: "would you want to build this small bulidng or just not ?" No choice between 2 buildings, just the option of building something or not. They were all small square buildings, the one that you can get by doing 3 times 20mins.

After giving some tought, and mainly cause I was blocked, couldn't even welcome travelers, of other options. So I loaded the back up from the day before, I the aim of maybe making other choices of buildings, cause 5 or 6 time the same small one, I was meeeehh I saw settlements with 3 water towers etc.

Today it proposed me the very same chain of choices in matter of dispute/new traveler/buildings (only 1 choice of small building or not), that I don't build, hoping to get at least a proper choice. So in the end, is the settlement just something you just unroll and discover, instead of something you can actually have your own choices ?

Light Floors Are All Blue [Bug]

Warping for Freighters..... [Question]

Hello all,

Sorry if this has been talked about a bunch and I missed it. But the Warping 5 and 10 times for a nice freighter thing. I want to talk about that.

I started a new file for the recent update. I warped 5 times, entered that fight for the free freighter. And then did the thing where you decline payment. Then after warping 5 times again, had that next fight with the better freighter. But, I was dumb and being picky, and didn't like the freighter. So I reloaded my autosave and warped to the same system again, thinking it would drop me in the fight again, but with a different freighter.

But it didn't. There was no fight. I thought maybe it was fluke and tried it two more times before giving up.

Did they change the mechanics for this with the update? Can we no longer perpetually reload until we're happy with the spawned freighter? Is it a one and done kind of deal now?

I'm playing with the most recent update (as of September 8th, 2021) on the PS5.

i get, we can’t mix bases and settlements, given the game decides where it wants to place new settlement buildings. so the outside area must be clear.

The biggest thing holding this game back is the multiplayer functionality. Currently, it feels like playing alone, but together..

Would be wicked to have a team based expedition where your group must accomplish goals together, with a shared base, and a shared ship (with passenger seats).

I located a mineral hotspot. How do I find it again? [Question]

G'day Folks,

Obviously a dumb question, but I can't figure it out.

I found a mineral hotspot and analysed it. 'A' ammonia or something. Terrific. I was missing material to create the mining facility so I went and picked some stuff up. I know the basic area to return to, but not the exact place. So now that I know it's there, the tracking system doesn't register it. How can I find it again? It's not like there's a beam of light or a marker I can see.

Xbox - new expedition 3… save issues [Information]

So it appears the save issue were it crashes the game and closes seems to be from the portable save devices. My ship and the Nav data save points don’t seem to cause the crash.

At least not yet… for me it only crashes when I use any of the portable save devices…

Just an FYI for those who might still be having the issue!

Where can I find out what has changed in NMS since I last played it. [Question]

I was one of those who bought this game when it originally came out on PS4…. Spent about 30hrs on it but all you seemed to be able to do was mine elements and other materials to earn money and the get better ships, find new planets and explore, with the only point being getting to the centre of the universe. It was alway an FPV game there were no real characters apart from the ones you meet at the trading points. The procedural generation stuff was cool, but there just wasn’t much worth playing for.

I’ve basically not played it since then.

I recently moved from PS4 to PC and I noticed the game was on steam sale and it looked considerably different to the clusterfuck of a game with cool technology that I remember.

Where can I find out what’s changed from the original release and is it worth giving it another go?

I left because missions were bugging 3/4 of the time, and coming back today, the quicksilver missions are still unfinishable for me. Ideas? [Question]

Played on game pass version, and now steam version. still having missions asking me to destroy depots and not completing at all. one had me recover some exotic material from a console which didn't do anything. trying another mission that wanted me to destroy more depots brought me to the bugged, already destroyed depots....

ctrl+F the bug thread and googling turned me to believe that it's a me problem.... anyone know? It is highly frustrating.

Expedition bugs [Question]

Anyone else been having problems with the new expeditions? I’m relatively new to no mans sky (AKA fell in love with it a few months ago) and this is my first time doing expeditions, unfortunately some of the missions for them haven’t been working and giving rewards? I built a teleporter and supplied 150 power to my base but didn’t complete the milestones. They’re also a phase above the one I’m currently in, so I’m just wondering if that also is preventing me from completing them? Thanks for any answers!

Hi, in the menu for choosing the gamemode in a new save slot, it appears the one for the expedition, but it says "Downloading data...". my game is updated and it's connected to internet, any wonders why this happens? i'm on Xbox btw.

My Geks are unhappy. They need a saloon. The opportunity has come, but I'm not able to actually build one. Please, help my Geks. [Question]

I understand this is a bug, so I'm asking if there's a workaround or if I should wait for a patch.

There are two options for building. One is the saloon, the other is some boring structure that will slightly improve productivity. Geks in my settlement are sad, so I want the saloon.

The thing is... when I pick the saloon, there's no computer to provide materials in the building site. The quest marker goes to the center of the settlement, and naturally I can't deposit materials there, as that structure in the center is only for checking settlement status.

I can build the other option just fine.

For now, I have not picked any of the two options. I want the saloon. The Geks NEED THE SALOON!

Living Ship Quest Question [Answered]

So I was gifted a void egg in the Anomoly a few days ago. Yesterday I started the quest for the living ship. I googled a guide to see how involved it is. The guide mentioned portal glyphs. I currently only have 6 glyphs unlocked. My question is, do I need all the glyphs to complete the mission? I already completed the first mission and am waiting for the 20 hour waiti time for the next step.

NPC freighter warping into space station [Information]

Last night an NPC freighter warped into a space station as I was landing and blocked off half the station, including my ship and the teleporter. I was able to get out of my ship but couldn't get back in. I ended up buying the next ship that landed (that I could get to) and warping to a nearby system to use that station to teleport home. I've been playing for a little while (~150 hours) and have never had this happen before.

Expedition troubles. [Question]

Is it common in the expeditions for player bases to completely bug out and intersect each other? Or did someone build right on top of me? I can't really move, since this is where my ship is and I haven't fixed the launch thrusters yet. Still have to build that quantum computer. When I reload, the other base is gone, but if I journey out and come back, it's there again blocking off access to half of my building. Because their building directly intersects mine.

To those of you that, like me, got the bug and can't start the expedition no matter what you do: SET SYSTEM TIME TO 8th of SEPTEMBER. Reset to automatic when it start loading.

Tips for New Players Starting Expedition 3 [Information]

This was my first expedition as well, and I grinded it out myself figuring that I'd figure it out eventually and ended up driving my exocraft for about 4 hours straight before I realized I was being dumb. So, if this helps anybody to refrain from making the same mistakes I did:

The roamer can be summoned in immediately anywhere.

You can do the phases out of order. Well, really, you have to do them out of order. Make sure the ingredient you need isnt unlocked in a further phase before you spend an hour looking for it.

Herox is unlocked with the alloy blueprint you receive as a reward for visiting a trading outpost. These can be found using a scanner on the roamer. If it's a wild distance away (1+ hour) you can attempt to find it in subsurface minerals or floating Crystal's. These award you glowing minerals that give alloys at random. That said I dug up 30 and never got one. It can also be crafted in a large refiner.

Larval Cores are found at abandoned outposts and will activate monstrosities who will mess you up. Look up tutorials for attaining it.

If you are stuck on scanning minerals, be sure to check under water and in caves.

The space station override key does not work and will remove itself from your inventory if you attempt to use it.

When in doubt -- google it out or ask for help in the chat. Just understand getting free resources will fix your ship but will not give you required achievements to finish the phase. That said, getting around in your ship is obviously a much faster way to complete them.

If there is anything I missed feel free to give suggestions and I'll update this as I go!

My no mans sky is very laggy [Bug]

can someone out there help me? I don't know if it's just me that's happening (probably not), this has been happening to me for a long time, since the "next" update, like, a lot of drops, my game is taking a lot of fps drops, like, a lot of drops and I don't know what else to do but that's not in the game at all, these fps dips only happen to me when I'm walking on planets, Like collecting resources, making my base, etc...Meanwhile, when I'm in space, the game is normal, without any lag, the problem is when I'm on foot on the planets.

Can someone help me solve this? I was told to play with the fps limit option turned on, but I think this makes the game worse, I also tried to play with the fps unlocked, thisbhelps a little bit, but the game keeps crashing a lot (only on planets).

Does anyone have any solution for this? I already sent a support ticket to hello games, it's been like 4 days, but they haven't responded so far, (and I don't think they will).

Ps: I play on PS4 slim, and don't even tell me that the solution is to get a PS4 pro, or PS5. I DON'T HAVE CONDITIONS FOR ANY OF THE 2.

Expedition with friends [Question]

So I haven't played in a long time. Currently play through subnautica and really wishing it was MP with my wife. Our biggest issue with NMS was lack of direction and upon hearing about expeditions, this has me intrigued. How does it work with friends though? Say my wife and I both start expedition, would we be placed by each other? Is there a place to meet that is close to where we start? What if I have a friend start after I have started, is he in a random place? I'm just trying to wrap my head around it.

Debt Problems? [Question]

I know this is probably old news or something everyone knows, but does anyone understand the debt for settlements. I have almost tripled my maintenance cost yet my debt isn't dropping for crap, it should have been cleared in about a day but it's already been two.

E3 Progression Breaking Bug: Construction Research Unit no longer supplying advanced techs [Bug]

When I first started out in Expedition 3, the CRU was providing advanced techs - specifically, for exocraft, medium/large refiner, etc.

I’ve reloaded the save, no dice.

That pretty much makes being able to complete E3 and would require a full restart.

Cartographers (Expedition) -- too many player bases [Question]

Three questions / problems:

(1) how do you find "unclaimed" land to make a base of your own? Anywhere I try, even if no other visible bases around, my base computer rejects as "already claimed".

(2) Is it possible to filter out player bases from the analysis visor? There's so many of them, it makes it difficult to see anything else.

(3) I'm trying to find a nearby settlement, and the nearest I'm now seeing is 8 hours away. I used a signal booster already, but not sure if what it found nearby was just lost among all the player bases in my display (see #2 above) or if it really didn't find anything closer than 8 hours walk away.

Playing in VR, if that makes any difference.

Any suggestions?

Thoughts on Expedition 3 After Completion. [Discussion]

I liked that at the start it was a little more difficult than previous Expeditions though that might be because i had walk 2 hours to find water deep enough to have Crystal Sulfate spawns which prevented take off from the planet.

Also i had a bug where i couldn't get Exocraft blueprints but found a work around by using somebodys Exocraft at their base got the rest of the blueprints via the Anomaly later.

The rewards weren't great apart from the edition of a Monstrosity as a companion and the new bubble jet pack trails.

I was hoping that this expedition would last longer and initially i thought this might be the case but actually it was the quickest to complete.

Either way getting new content and for free is always great and Hello Games are nothing but dedicated!

Glitchy Freighters and Game Crashes? [Discussion]

Since Frontiers Update all freighters I enter get glitchy running up the exterior ramp, not the landing bay stairs. Also I can see right through the interior at the top of that ramp of any freighter I enter now for a few seconds looking at planets.

Plus I'm trying to hunt salvaged data and I have to momentarily plant a save beacon right after finding some each time because my game has been crashing after playing for roughly 30 minutes.

I'm just curious if others are still having these problems too.

Am I missing something about the Expedition? [Question]

I didn't play Expeditions 1 and 2, but man, why is this game mode so unfun? Basically, I have to visit an extraterrestrial post that is 13 hours away from me. So my only way to go there is by ship. However, to take off, I have to find Herox. But man, how can I have Herox if the only way is to discover it first is in the Anomaly? Did anyone that took off found 2 pieces of Herox randomly, ans if so, how??? And I'm not talking about the 18 rocks to discover. This is so boring, and the planet itself is so annoying, like there's a storm every 3 minutes. Come on, HG, why do you do this to your players?

I just got the quest “the purge” and it’s telling me to go to the center of the galaxy. I checked YouTube and it said something about getting glyphs. The background music has changed to some strange music with a heartbeat. Am I supposed to just keep playing the game like normal or is there somewhere I’m supposed to go?

Expedition 3: Construction base reverted; no Anomaly [Question]

G'day Folks,

I'm progressing through the expedition. After building a mineral extraction plant, I realized attaching a supply depot would be useful. Returning to the construction base unit, it no longer offers the expedition set of plans and is now offering the typical start plans. "No problem!" I think to myself. I'll just finish the pulse engine repairs and go to the Anomaly! But once in space, I have no option to summon the Anomaly.

Is there any way I can get those plans and any others I may need to complete the expedition?

The Settlers Mission Bugged [Bug]

My settlers mission is bugged and stuck at step 3, make your first building.

For trouble shooting, I play multiplayer in a fireteam with my wife on Xbox S. From the start my mission was bugged, I would see her quest prompts on the lower right of my screen. I was able to make my first construction, the landing pad, but now all I get is no decisions. I have found and claimed a new settlement, but that didn't work. I have tried resetting the mission using R3, but it doesn't do anything. I traveled from my settlement in Eissantam to Euclid in single player, but still could not reset the mission. I have also filed a bug report through Zendesk.

Other than waiting for a patch, does anyone know of a way to get past this?

Can’t finish Main Story Quest to prove honour to Vykeen [Bug]

After speaking to the cartographer, i got the coordinates of a underground ruin and I spoke to the thing there and “listened to the waves” and it gave me a trident key

There are 3 submerged sea chests around the ruin which require 1 trident key and 1 living pearl to open

I didn’t get the Vykeen Arifact from the first one but it used up my trident key, but other people on youtube seemed to keep their key for all 3 so now I cannot open the other two and progress

Any way to get another Key/ Fix this? Already tried reloading save but my first thought was that what i had got was the artifact so my save is after already using up the key

Lost my base for the last time [Build]

I’ve lost all my ships, pets, frigates, freighters, multi-tool, and technology upgrades.

I can see where everything was in my base, including the base computer which shows a screenshot of my old base. The storage is carved out, the rooms are built into a mountain with nothing there, my giant garage is still built with no materials showing.

I guess that’s it No Mans Sky. After the third time this has happened, time to find other games that don’t delete literal hundreds of hours of gameplay with updates.

With a set determination to not sink 100+ hours into permadeath mode, I managed to get the "To Live Forever" acheivement within 3 hours [Spoiler]

As the title says really.

My main save has hundreds of hours and I really didn't want to invest that again for an achievement. This wasn't a speedrun per se, however i'm impressed that you can get to the centre of the galaxy with such little time.

Expedition 3 - can't place items [Bug]

Personal refiner, signal booster, save beacon, anything that you place down like that.

Straight up can't do it.

It's like I'm trying to place it in someone else's base, except I'm not. I'm certainly not. I move and move until there is now way I'm still in someone's base, but can't place anything.

Therefore, I cannot move past phase 1 of the expedition.

Unfortunate Data Lost [Question]

Xbox error caused my save data to be corrupted/deleted. I don’t have access to any of my 3 previous saves.

I was wondering if this had happen to anyone before.

Was it recoverable on Hello Games end? Do they even back up data?

If not did you have access to your previous expedition and twitch rewards?

Or did you lose everything?

I don’t want to restart the game if it messes with a recovery process. But If I am SOL anyway It will at least make for an informed decision.

Base Building Question - Rotate & Resize [Question]

Before Frontiers I could resize and rotate Decoration parts (specifically curved pipe & pyramid pieces etc) in three dimensions. I used to hold L1+R1 and press up and down to resize etc. Rotate in 3D with the D pad. Now, it only lets us rotate around the y axis only and we cannot resize them? Seems like a step backwards or am I missing something? Any help appreciated thanks.

My NMS "Little Items" Wishlist (Feel Free to Suggest Items in Comments, I'll Edit With Best Suggestions) [Suggestion]

The other day I suggested "parachutes or paragliders" on a thread and lots of people replied, so I thought... Why not have a list of very small items/improvements that would bring a lot of joy to the game. Not big things like, complete overhauls...but just tiny things that could be easily added that would make people like me (I like to build and explore, not so much combat) very happy. Feel free to suggest things in the comments and I'll edit if I like it! Some of these things may already be in the game and I just somehow missed them, though. Let me know if that's the case! Parachute or Paragliders (For Those Mountain/Volcano Jumps) Zip Lines Ball (Kind of like the race item, but just a ball you can kick around with physics, or pick up and throw, and a sensor you can put for a "Goal"...so you can make ball games.) Vending Machine (I love making items in the food processor. I wish I could put out a vending machine at my base for others to buy or so I could give away creations for cheap to visitors. Guestbook (Communications beacons get messy. I'd love a guestbook at bases I visit so I can leave a short message of appreciation without clutter). Address book (So I don't have to track portal addresses offline) Hidden Cave Treasure (A treasure that shows up in caves above a certain size. You can't find it with your scanner, only by exploring.) Bubble Jetpack Trail (Obtained from famous bubble planets.) Wall Art (It would be neat if you could use the great pictures you take of NMS in game, and put them on your base walls as posters or framed pictures.) Tradable Post Cards (A card where you can add a picture, put a short phrase, and a portal address and give that card to other players, that would be a neat way to learn of new locations to visit).

I switched to pc a few weeks ago and i just linked my twitch and hello games account on steam, i saw i could claim my first twitch drops as well, even though its on another account on pc instead of ps4. Does anyone know if this works for the expedition one rewards as well? Because i can still see them when i click claim expedition rewards but i cant claim them.

Growing on me [Discussion]

Just wanted to put this out there I suppose. When the frontiers update came out I was sadly disappointed at the wait times and how I could not deep dive into any news content.

Don’t get me wrong, I really hope they add a very large update soon for a late game story line. It would be nice to have the star seed or remembrance being used for more of a critical role.

But there really has to be something said about frontiers. As someone in university, I no longer have as much time to play long sessions with my coursework. It is nice to have something I can log onto and manage for a quick few minutes and then see grow.

I am not editing system time so it is a slow but fulfilling process to watch my settlement grow. I would like the ability to edit decorations, as well as more of a fully drawn out concept of civilization (shops, interactions, natural growth). I get the update is introducing a backbone and that is ok with me.

I am excited to see where this can build, but please Sean and the team… add some more storylines to explore…

PSA: If a traveler were to break their settlement by time traveling, a settlement decision that gives you a fixed amount of debt can fix it [Discussion]

I fucked up and time traveled and my settlement was billions in debt with a "time until debt cleared" counter that went up instead of down.

I made a decision to fund an expedition for like 49,000 debt, and boom, I was back down to a normal number with a 4 hour timer until it cleared.

Has Starship Spawning in Space Stations Changed Recently? [Question]

I am still pretty new to the game, and I have just started really trying to farm for specific S-Class starships.

I found this video that does a great job explaining how to use the game's spawning mechanics to repeatedly spawn the same type of ship appearance until it shows up as an S-Class.

However, this video is from 2019, so my question is, have the starship spawning mechanics changed in the last couple years so that the method described in the video no longer works?

I went to a station where the ship I wanted spawns, and it actually showed up right away for me as a B-Class when I first arrived. (Shockingly, it even showed up twice before I even tried reloading my save). However, once I started reloading my save, I noticed that my ship only occasionally showed up as part of the first wave of ship spawns.

Even if I just reload and hold perfectly still, looking straight ahead, sometimes my ship spawns in the first wave, but more often it doesn't. I have also tried looking side-ways immediately after reloading for various numbers of seconds like the video describes, but my results from trying this are also very inconsistent. Occasionally, my ship will show up in the first wave, but usually it won't.

Does anyone know if this video's method still works? If not, is there a better method I should try? Or, if it does still work, what might I be doing wrong?

4 hours ago I had like 17 minutes till my settlement was out of debt. My production is 150K more than my maintenance costs.

So I log out of the game, do some work, then log in at lunch time & now I'm over 415k in debt (twice what I was before at the start) with something like 18 hours to clear it???

TIP if Expeditions crashes a lot [Suggestion]

Turn off multiplayer. I didn't think it would let me, but when I was turning off PvP YET AGAIN I went ahead and tried it. Usually my game crashes every couple hours. I played 10 hours yesterday with only one crash. Hubby played 6 hours with 5 crashes with multiplayer on, and his game rarely crashes.

Not seeing 3.64 update for ps4. [Question]

I play with my gf cross platform. Her on PS4 and myself on PC. Since the latest update dropped (expedition 3) we have had a version mismatch as she still is at 3.63. Anyone not able to play expedition 3? [Question]

I’ve tried 10 times to play it and the longest I’ve lasted is 15 minutes and then it crashes and won’t let me save so I have to start over. I play on Series X btw. But almost every time I try to save by getting in and out of my ship, using a save beacon, or a waypoint, the game crashes. And I lose all my hard work. I’m in Expeditions. My buddy gave up last night in a huff cause it was happening to him too. I guess this is why people say to wait until the bugs are worked out. Building Base Structure Help [Question]

I've been watching my boyfriend play No Man's Sky for a while and I wanted to join in the fun. I've just put down my base station and need to build a structure. I can put the walls, roof and floor down, but they don't protect me from the storm. I can walk through the walls and I cannot delete the walls once they have been built as the game doesn't recognise they are there.

Expeditions and building. [Question]

So I started the expedition yesterday like many others, have been naming progress and I’m almost done with phase 3. I set my base up right where my ship was cause it had a galactic terminal there. I built a basic house with the essential items. I played for an hour and logged off. Today I get on, I’m exploring and trying to scan everything to complete phase 3. I decide I’m going to head back to my base so I get on my companion and head back. When I get there, there is someone else there with a ship and he has built INTO my base. Like he built a house clipped into my building and keeps trying to kill me. This is really annoying and is ruining the expedition experience for me. Should players be able to do this? Not sure how he built INTO and through my base. Not sure why he didn’t see my base there? Or he did and he’s just being an A hole. I would like some answers cause this doesn’t seem right.

Can you eradicate a given lifeform on a planet? Like, seriously, I want to delete these hellish, nightmare tentacles from my planet. [Question]

A couple years back, I got into NMS and was having a blast. In just the second solar system I traveled to, I found a beautiful moon that reminded me of the Elysium Fields with its endless golden fields of grass. It was a paradise, but I also felt like I had to move on in order to explore / do the campaign / farm wiring looms.

After a good 100 hours of gameplay, I made it to the end of the campaign, made it to the next galaxy, explored some more, and eventually I petered out on NMS, and that was that. Recently, I've had the itch to get back into it, so I hopped back in. I decided I wanted to go back to my idyllic little paradise moon, so I made the long, long haul back, re-tracing my old steps. I got there today, and I won't lie, I got a little emotional approaching my little moon, Ilvin Omega after a couple years and a hundred hours of gameplay later.

Now, I had remembered at some point, flora and fauna were reset on planets to give the whole game more variety, but I didn't really think about it in the moment. Ilvin Omega still looked as pristine as I remembered. Until I landed. I stepped off my ship and at first, things looked just like I remembered, but then, I noticed some unsettling movement in the distance and realized there was something very, very wrong with the new wildlife...

THESE FUCKIN THINGS MAKE MY SKIN CRAWL!

Seriously. My beautiful home planet has been infested with these horrible, awful, instinct-stabbing, revolting, wiggly tentacles. 😭 Is there any way I can just nuke them all?

Grinding for Settlement Charts. [Discussion]

Why do settlement charts require 5 navigation data? We can only have one settlement...

5 is not too much but...

I've had some bugs that have been hindering the speed at which I can find the ideal settlement.

I actually like all the timers. [Discussion]

When an update drops that adds new systems or content to the game, I generally restart, but keep my original save. Usually this isn't a big sacrifice, as its typically me restarting a permadeath save after dying months prior and waiting to play again for the new update.

As a result, when a new update drops, I get to experience the game from the start, with the new systems introduced along side everything else. What this means is that I'm unlocking my base, the anomaly, my freighter and frigates, technology, and now settlements all at the same time.

A lot of the complaints I see around the timer mechanics in Foundations bring up that putting timers on caps progression. Some suggest that you should be able to just pay off your settlement's debt with your own funds. Others suggest that the timers patch a lack of meaningful content.

As someone experiencing the game all at once, having just gotten my first few million units, I gotta say: thank Atlas for the timers.

Because there are timers, I can purchase my first few frigates, send them on a mission, and go down to my base computer. I can research the next construction bluprint at the base computer, and then head to my settlement. I resolve a conflict, I craft the items for the next building construction, and then I head out on the atlas questline. 30 minutes later, I'm headed back to my settlement. While trying to manage all of these spinning plates, I'm out trying to gather the resources to craft my next suit, weapon, exocraft or ship upgrade. I'm running around gathering any nanites I see. I'm trying to get my freighter base going, while also considering farming. I'm looking for derelict freighters to plunder. I'm doing space station quests.

Altogether, the multiple timed tasks, when done along with the base game components, leave me with a sense of urgency to my work, and always keep me going on the next thing....

Turn off other player drops? [Question]

Is there a way I can turn off drops from other players? If I go afk in the anomaly I come back with a bunch of OP items I didn't get legit and I keep throwing them out. Is there any way I can turn this off?

Expedition help [Question]

So this expedition is the first one that I have tried and unless I am missing something it totally sucks and I am only like 30 mins in.

I am on the phase where I need to build a base, but I can't because there are already bases everywhere. I have walked several kilometres from my ship and cannot start a base anywhere. With the constant storms and now being miles from a ship that won't fly the backwards and forwards to fix the ship is just going to be a nightmare.

Someone please tell me I am missing something otherwise I will just forget it.

Frontiers Settlements Bug - Need Help [Bug]

I am dealing with a very annoying issue when it comes to Settlements and am wondering if anyone has found a solution to this problem.

I downloaded the original update for frontiers and was prompted and guided to start a settlement. I became the overseer of the settlement and constructed the overseer's office. I began construction on starship hub, but did not complete it as I did not have all the materials needed. I then closed the game. I reloaded the game a couple days later, flew to a new system, used the cartographer to find a new settlement in a new system and chose to become the overseer of the new settlement removing me from the original.

I now seem to be stuck in a loop where I can find new settlements and become the overseer, I can build the overseer office, but I'm unable to make any decisions. When I fly back to the first system where my original settlement was created, I am prompted with a mission to finish construction on the starship hub. I am obviously unable to do that as I am no longer the overseer of the original settlement. I have tried becoming the overseer of the original settlement again but run to the same issue where it does not allow me to complete the mission.

Clearly this is a bug in the game as I have started a fresh game and been able to work with settlements with no issues. I somehow found a bug in my 100+ hour save file and cannot find any way to fix it. Has anyone dealt with something like this and if so have you found a solution?

Expedition problem [Bug]

In phase four the first two milestones require you to repair the pressurisation capsule (needed to get off world) + find and visit an outpost to unlock the recipe for herox which is needed for the capsule. My problem is there is no outposts near me and I have travelled for hours but there is one off world that I discovered with a planetary chart If anyone has got any suggestions they will be much appreciated

Anyone else have issues with building since the last update? [Question]

Is building things just not working as intended for anyone else? Snapping either does work or tries to snap in the middle of other objects, electric lines stay out hidden or not, no clue how to place a roof it can't snap at all. Am I doing something wrong here? These seem like pretty massive issues with base building

I need a quantum computer to fix my ship, to get one I need to generate 150 power to my base. I can’t make anything that makes power. I can get power generator blueprints if I build a teleporter. I don’t know how to build one. What do I do?

I'm sure there's a nuanced and considerate discussion to be had on the following opinion.

The fact that updates are free does not make them immune from criticism, constructive or otherwise.

That should apply quadruply so in the case of an update that fundamentally breaks the game on consoles where there is neither an experimental branch or the possibility to go back a version.

The fact updates are free in a game that was oversold and half a decade later is still missing features while being bloated on ephemeral "mechanics" is not a shield.

Least of all when the company responsible is still sitting on tens of millions made from the lies that people were sold and continue to be sold by these shallow features.

The way I've seen the phrase used by so many to dismiss all criticism reeks of sycophantry, fanboyism, and betrays a room temperature IQ that would be entertaining if it wasnt so pervasive in the community.

You just read this post for free, does that mean you can't criticise the opinions I've shared?

Either the building project steps need streamlining or they're bugged and they need to be fixed. [Discussion]

I don't know if the process is bugged or if it's intentional(cue BETHESDA "yes") but the way settlement building project steps go is a total slog. It's a severely irritating thing to put materials in, wait an hour, hour and a half, put more materials in, wait, etc. And given the steps are not numbered and you can end up doing the same step upwards of 4 times(this happened to me yesterday with heat capacitors) it's impossible to know if this is all working as intended.

As I was writing that my town's new tower project asked me to put in another 115 Di-Hydrogen for the third time to complete the roof.

If it's bugged then it needs to be a higher priority to fix as it's really draining the fun and interest out of settlement building and if it's intended then I think it needs to change. Either put numbered steps on the project or just let me put in all the materials required at once and make me wait the full time! I'm still going back and forth between other in-game stuff and returning to the settlement to make Conscript X give back Settler Y's toy and trying to convince the new local that huffing nannite gas is indeed a bad idea, and I'd be waiting anyway for my new building project to finish while I did other stuff so it's not like making me wait the full time would change anything. If it's a matter of removing the player's involvement then it's still not an issue as more people are figuring out that you can extend a base radius into the settlement and decorate it yourself which is a damned-side more involved and fun than hoping, just HOPING, the roof of my new building will not require another 20 metal plates through 3 more steps or another 6 Heat Capacitors over three more "final" steps.

Which legacy base parts were removed? [Question]

I’m finishing up unlocking the rest of the metal, wood, and concrete base parts I didn’t have yet on my permadeath save before updating today, but the patch notes said several deprecated base parts were removed from the tree. Was there any other parts other than the three mentioned part types removed in frontiers?

Question about Creative vs. Normal mode [Discussion]

I finally booted up my Creative mode save that only had 5 minutes on it from 2016 lol. I've got close to 30 hours on it now. I knew it had free building stuff, I didn't realize it had free portal glyphs, ship buying, inventory expansions....I've found that I can't talk to freighter captains after a battle, and I've never seen a dreadnaught freighter on this save. Do we not get freighters in creative mode? What else is different?

Settlement Ecomonics - No money buffer? [Discussion]

So I finally got a settlement out of debt. About 150K overhead on 400K output. It showed it producing some sulphurine and some other trade item in about 8 hours.

Fast forward a couple of hours and I get a visitor looking for shelter at the settlement at an approximate cost of 6K credits I will get +2 happiness. No brainer, that is a rounding error of cost.

I say ok, and of course the settlement output completely stops and now I have the 6K debt.

I find it super dumb that the settlement can't carry some surplus cash and the entire output stops for a trivial amount of debt.

Expedition 3 Ship question [Discussion]

Is there a way to change what ship you get when you start it? I've had most of the exotics before so I have favorites and well, not favorites. The game gave me my least liked ship. (and it's bugged and doesn't fold its wings a lot of the time) I tried starting it over and it gave me the same ship each time. (hubby got to be a vy'keen and got one of my favorite ships too. hmph!) Do I need to start it over before wiping the current save? Or am I stuck with whatever the game rolls me? I even tried trading it with an NPC and it says I can't.

It's the NMS version of driving with your door only part way closed
