Every Man's Sky ? [Discussion]
Hi,
A bit of philosophy, waiting for the 3.7 explorer's update :-D
Fellow explorer here, and the direction NMS is taking (building, owning, managing) made me think.
I really like the idea carried by the title: No Man's Sky.
The sky that belongs to no one.
This idea/title is beautiful and emphasizes what the heart of the game was originaly imho: you are in a vast universe, it's just there, it doesn't belong to you nor anyone.
It doesn't care about you, you're just a temporary passing guest, with no purpose. There's poetry here.
And the original game made me feel this way, that's what made it so unique, that's why i loved it so much from day 1.
But the new game is not No Man's Sky, it's Every Man's Sky.
It now pushes us to own, possess, mark, build, manage, grow.
And a majority of people seem to respond favorably to that, it's Civilization over again: own, build, grow and fight.
Owning means nothing to me, it always reminds me of the two fleas fighting over who owned the dog.
Apparently nms is currently shifting from the explorer point of view to the builder point of view: appealing to the "i want more" instinct in each of us instead of the "i want less" instinct.
I think it's in this sense that it's shifting away from the game i loved so much.
Well, following my own lesson, i'm reminded that i don't own the game, it has its own life, in the very good hands of its creators.
And it's good, nms is more than ever an amazing new game, rich, beautiful and complexe, tailored for the builders among us and rightfully loved as such.
And i know you can still play the explorer way, the universe is vast enough, you don't have to build/own anything, you don't have to see anyone else.
It's true, it's still possible, and that's the way i play.
I'm just saying nms does not seem to...
